1975: Diploma in Physics at Goettingen University.
1978: Doctor (Ph.D.) of Physics at Goettingen University.
1979: Postdoctoral Fellow at M. I. T. in Cambrigde with Prof. John Ross.
1980-81: Postdoctoral Associate at Stanford University with Prof. John Ross, Work on chemical instabilities and nonlinear chemical reactions.
1982-95: Research assistant at the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Ernaehrungs-physiologie (now: fuer molekulare Physiologie) with Prof. Benno Hess, Work on biochemical oscillations and excitation waves, chemo-hydrodynamic instabilities.
1992: Habilitation in Physics at the Goettingen University.
1995: Full professorship at the University of Magdeburg with focus on biophysics.
1999-2002: Vice President of the Magdeburg University.
2003-2006: Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science. Since 2003 Representative for foreign students and personnel. Since 1996 Member of the Ethics Commission.
