Optimal threshold selection algorithms for multi-label classification: property study
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 6, pp. 1221-1238Multi-label classification models arise in various areas of life, which is explained by an increasing amount of information that requires prompt analysis. One of the mathematical methods for solving this problem is a plug-in approach, at the first stage of which, for each class, a certain ranking function is built, ordering all objects in some way, and at the second stage, the optimal thresholds are selected, the objects on one side of which are assigned to the current class, and on the other — to the other. Thresholds are chosen to maximize the target quality measure. The algorithms which properties are investigated in this article are devoted to the second stage of the plug-in approach which is the choice of the optimal threshold vector. This step becomes non-trivial if the $F$-measure of average precision and recall is used as the target quality assessment since it does not allow independent threshold optimization in each class. In problems of extreme multi-label classification, the number of classes can reach hundreds of thousands, so the original optimization problem is reduced to the problem of searching a fixed point of a specially introduced transformation $\boldsymbol V$, defined on a unit square on the plane of average precision $P$ and recall $R$. Using this transformation, two algorithms are proposed for optimization: the $F$-measure linearization method and the method of $\boldsymbol V$ domain analysis. The properties of algorithms are studied when applied to multi-label classification data sets of various sizes and origin, in particular, the dependence of the error on the number of classes, on the $F$-measure parameter, and on the internal parameters of methods under study. The peculiarity of both algorithms work when used for problems with the domain of $\boldsymbol V$, containing large linear boundaries, was found. In case when the optimal point is located in the vicinity of these boundaries, the errors of both methods do not decrease with an increase in the number of classes. In this case, the linearization method quite accurately determines the argument of the optimal point, while the method of $\boldsymbol V$ domain analysis — the polar radius.

Comparative analysis of finite difference method and finite volume method for unsteady natural convection and thermal radiation in a cubical cavity filled with a diathermic medium
Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 4, pp. 567-578Views (last year): 13. Citations: 1 (RSCI).Comparative analysis of two numerical methods for simulation of unsteady natural convection and thermal surface radiation within a differentially heated cubical cavity has been carried out. The considered domain of interest had two isothermal opposite vertical faces, while other walls are adiabatic. The walls surfaces were diffuse and gray, namely, their directional spectral emissivity and absorptance do not depend on direction or wavelength but can depend on surface temperature. For the reflected radiation we had two approaches such as: 1) the reflected radiation is diffuse, namely, an intensity of the reflected radiation in any point of the surface is uniform for all directions; 2) the reflected radiation is uniform for each surface of the considered enclosure. Mathematical models formulated both in primitive variables “velocity–pressure” and in transformed variables “vector potential functions – vorticity vector” have been performed numerically using finite volume method and finite difference methods, respectively. It should be noted that radiative heat transfer has been analyzed using the net-radiation method in Poljak approach.
Using primitive variables and finite volume method for the considered boundary-value problem we applied power-law for an approximation of convective terms and central differences for an approximation of diffusive terms. The difference motion and energy equations have been solved using iterative method of alternating directions. Definition of the pressure field associated with velocity field has been performed using SIMPLE procedure.
Using transformed variables and finite difference method for the considered boundary-value problem we applied monotonic Samarsky scheme for convective terms and central differences for diffusive terms. Parabolic equations have been solved using locally one-dimensional Samarsky scheme. Discretization of elliptic equations for vector potential functions has been conducted using symmetric approximation of the second-order derivatives. Obtained difference equation has been solved by successive over-relaxation method. Optimal value of the relaxation parameter has been found on the basis of computational experiments.
As a result we have found the similar distributions of velocity and temperature in the case of these two approaches for different values of Rayleigh number, that illustrates an operability of the used techniques. The efficiency of transformed variables with finite difference method for unsteady problems has been shown.

CABARET scheme implementation for free shear layer modeling
Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 6, pp. 881-903Views (last year): 17.In present paper we reexamine the properties of CABARET numerical scheme formulated for a weakly compressible fluid flow basing the results of free shear layer modeling. Kelvin–Helmholtz instability and successive generation of two-dimensional turbulence provide a wide field for a scheme analysis including temporal evolution of the integral energy and enstrophy curves, the vorticity patterns and energy spectra, as well as the dispersion relation for the instability increment. The most part of calculations is performed for Reynolds number $\text{Re} = 4 \times 10^5$ for square grids sequentially refined in the range of $128^2-2048^2$ nodes. An attention is paid to the problem of underresolved layers generating a spurious vortex during the vorticity layers roll-up. This phenomenon takes place only on a coarse grid with $128^2$ nodes, while the fully regularized evolution pattern of vorticity appears only when approaching $1024^2$-node grid. We also discuss the vorticity resolution properties of grids used with respect to dimensional estimates for the eddies at the borders of the inertial interval, showing that the available range of grids appears to be sufficient for a good resolution of small–scale vorticity patches. Nevertheless, we claim for the convergence achieved for the domains occupied by large-scale structures.
The generated turbulence evolution is consistent with theoretical concepts imposing the emergence of large vortices, which collect all the kinetic energy of motion, and solitary small-scale eddies. The latter resemble the coherent structures surviving in the filamentation process and almost noninteracting with other scales. The dissipative characteristics of numerical method employed are discussed in terms of kinetic energy dissipation rate calculated directly and basing theoretical laws for incompressible (via enstrophy curves) and compressible (with respect to the strain rate tensor and dilatation) fluid models. The asymptotic behavior of the kinetic energy and enstrophy cascades comply with two-dimensional turbulence laws $E(k) \propto k^{−3}, \omega^2(k) \propto k^{−1}$. Considering the instability increment as a function of dimensionless wave number shows a good agreement with other papers, however, commonly used method of instability growth rate calculation is not always accurate, so some modification is proposed. Thus, the implemented CABARET scheme possessing remarkably small numerical dissipation and good vorticity resolution is quite competitive approach compared to other high-order accuracy methods

Simulation of convective-radiative heat transfer in a differentially heated rotating cavity
Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 2, pp. 195-207Views (last year): 20.Mathematical simulation of unsteady natural convection and thermal surface radiation within a rotating square enclosure was performed. The considered domain of interest had two isothermal opposite walls subjected to constant low and high temperatures, while other walls are adiabatic. The walls were diffuse and gray. The considered cavity rotated with constant angular velocity relative to the axis that was perpendicular to the cavity and crossed the cavity in the center. Mathematical model, formulated in dimensionless transformed variables “stream function – vorticity” using the Boussinesq approximation and diathermic approach for the medium, was performed numerically using the finite difference method. The vorticity dispersion equation and energy equation were solved using locally one-dimensional Samarskii scheme. The diffusive terms were approximated by central differences, while the convective terms were approximated using monotonic Samarskii scheme. The difference equations were solved by the Thomas algorithm. The approximated Poisson equation for the stream function was solved by successive over-relaxation method. Optimal value of the relaxation parameter was found on the basis of computational experiments. Radiative heat transfer was analyzed using the net-radiation method in Poljak approach. The developed computational code was tested using the grid independence analysis and experimental and numerical results for the model problem.
Numerical analysis of unsteady natural convection and thermal surface radiation within the rotating enclosure was performed for the following parameters: Ra = 103–106, Ta = 0–105, Pr = 0.7, ε = 0–0.9. All distributions were obtained for the twentieth complete revolution when one can find the periodic behavior of flow and heat transfer. As a result we revealed that at low angular velocity the convective flow can intensify but the following growth of angular velocity leads to suppression of the convective flow. The radiative Nusselt number changes weakly with the Taylor number.

Analysis of mechanical structures of complex technical systems
Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 5, pp. 903-916The work is devoted to the structural analysis of complex technical systems. Mechanical structures are considered, the properties of which affect the behavior of products during assembly, repair and operation. The main source of data on parts and mechanical connections between them is a hypergraph. This model formalizes the multidimensional basing relation. The hypergraph correctly describes the connectivity and mutual coordination of parts, which is achieved during the assembly of the product. When developing complex products in CAD systems, an engineer often makes serious design mistakes: overbasing of parts and non-sequential assembly operations. Effective ways of identifying these structural defects have been proposed. It is shown that the property of independent assembly can be represented as a closure operator whose domain is the boolean of the set of product parts. The images of this operator are connected and coordinated subsets of parts that can be assembled independently. A lattice model is described, which is the state space of the product during assembly, disassembly and decomposition into assembly units. The lattice model serves as a source of various structural information about the project. Numerical estimates of the cardinality of the set of admissible alternatives in the problems of choosing an assembly sequence and decomposition into assembly units are proposed. For many technical operations (for example, control, testing, etc.), it is necessary to mount all the operand parts in one assembly unit. A simple formalization of the technical conditions requiring the inclusion (exclusion) of parts in the assembly unit (from the assembly unit) has been developed. A theorem that gives an mathematical description of product decomposition into assembly units in exact lattice terms is given. A method for numerical evaluation of the robustness of the mechanical structure of a complex technical system is proposed.

Solution to a two-dimensional nonlinear heat equation using null field method
Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 6, pp. 1449-1467The paper deals with a heat wave motion problem for a degenerate second-order nonlinear parabolic equation with power nonlinearity. The considered boundary condition specifies in a plane the motion equation of the circular zero front of the heat wave. A new numerical-analytical algorithm for solving the problem is proposed. A solution is constructed stepby- step in time using difference time discretization. At each time step, a boundary value problem for the Poisson equation corresponding to the original equation at a fixed time is considered. This problem is, in fact, an inverse Cauchy problem in the domain whose initial boundary is free of boundary conditions and two boundary conditions (Neumann and Dirichlet) are specified on a current boundary (heat wave). A solution of this problem is constructed as the sum of a particular solution to the nonhomogeneous Poisson equation and a solution to the corresponding Laplace equation satisfying the boundary conditions. Since the inhomogeneity depends on the desired function and its derivatives, an iterative solution procedure is used. The particular solution is sought by the collocation method using inhomogeneity expansion in radial basis functions. The inverse Cauchy problem for the Laplace equation is solved by the null field method as applied to a circular domain with a circular hole. This method is used for the first time to solve such problem. The calculation algorithm is optimized by parallelizing the computations. The parallelization of the computations allows us to realize effectively the algorithm on high performance computing servers. The algorithm is implemented as a program, which is parallelized by using the OpenMP standard for the C++ language, suitable for calculations with parallel cycles. The effectiveness of the algorithm and the robustness of the program are tested by the comparison of the calculation results with the known exact solution as well as with the numerical solution obtained earlier by the authors with the use of the boundary element method. The implemented computational experiment shows good convergence of the iteration processes and higher calculation accuracy of the proposed new algorithm than of the previously developed one. The solution analysis allows us to select the radial basis functions which are most suitable for the proposed algorithm.

Analysis of noise-induced destruction of coexistence regimes in «prey–predator» population model
Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 4, pp. 647-660Views (last year): 14. Citations: 4 (RSCI).The paper is devoted to the analysis of the proximity of the population system to dangerous boundaries. An intersection of these boundaries results in the collapse of the stable coexistence of interacting populations. As a reason of such destruction one can consider random perturbations inevitably presented in any living system. This study is carried out on the example of the well-known model of interaction between predator and prey populations, taking into account both a stabilizing factor of the competition of predators for another than prey resources, and also a destabilizing saturation factor for predators. To describe the saturation of predators, we use the second type Holling trophic function. The dynamics of the system is studied as a function of the predator saturation, and the coefficient of predator competition for resources other than prey. The paper presents a parametric description of the possible dynamic regimes of the deterministic model. Here, local and global bifurcations are studied, and areas of sustainable coexistence of populations in equilibrium and the oscillation modes are described. An interesting feature of this mathematical model, firstly considered by Bazykin, is a global bifurcation of the birth of limit cycle from the separatrix loop. We study the effects of noise on the equilibrium and oscillatory regimes of coexistence of predator and prey populations. It is shown that an increase of the intensity of random disturbances can lead to significant deformations of these regimes right up to their destruction. The aim of this work is to develop a constructive probabilistic criterion for the proximity of the population stochastic system to the dangerous boundaries. The proposed approach is based on the mathematical technique of stochastic sensitivity functions, and the method of confidence domains. In the case of a stable equilibrium, this confidence domain is an ellipse. For the stable cycle, this domain is a confidence band. The size of the confidence domain is proportional to the intensity of the noise and stochastic sensitivity of the initial deterministic attractor. A geometric criterion of the exit of the population system from sustainable coexistence mode is the intersection of the confidence domain and the corresponding separatrix of the unforced deterministic model. An effectiveness of this analytical approach is confirmed by the good agreement of theoretical estimates and results of direct numerical simulations.

On the construction and properties of WENO schemes order five, seven, nine, eleven and thirteen. Part 2. Numerical examples
Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 6, pp. 885-910Views (last year): 13.WENO schemes (weighted, essentially non oscillating) are currently having a wide range of applications as approximate high order schemes for discontinuous solutions of partial differential equations. These schemes are used for direct numerical simulation (DNS) and large eddy simmulation in the gas dynamic problems, problems for DNS in MHD and even neutron kinetics. This work is dedicated to clarify some characteristics of WENO schemes and numerical simulation of specific tasks. Results of the simulations can be used to clarify the field of application of these schemes. The first part of the work contained proofs of the approximation properties, stability and convergence of WENO5, WENO7, WENO9, WENO11 and WENO13 schemes. In the second part of the work the modified wave number analysis is conducted that allows to conclude the dispersion and dissipative properties of schemes. Further, a numerical simulation of a number of specific problems for hyperbolic equations is conducted, namely for advection equations (one-dimensional and two-dimensional), Hopf equation, Burgers equation (with low dissipation) and equations of non viscous gas dynamics (onedimensional and two-dimensional). For each problem that is implying a smooth solution, the practical calculation of the order of approximation via Runge method is performed. The influence of a time step on nonlinear properties of the schemes is analyzed experimentally in all problems and cross checked with the first part of the paper. In particular, the advection equations of a discontinuous function and Hopf equations show that the failure of the recommendations from the first part of the paper leads first to an increase in total variation of the solution and then the approximation is decreased by the non-linear dissipative mechanics of the schemes. Dissipation of randomly distributed initial conditions in a periodic domain for one-dimensional Burgers equation is conducted and a comparison with the spectral method is performed. It is concluded that the WENO7–WENO13 schemes are suitable for direct numerical simulation of turbulence. At the end we demonstrate the possibility of the schemes to be used in solution of initial-boundary value problems for equations of non viscous gas dynamics: Rayleigh–Taylor instability and the reflection of the shock wave from a wedge with the formation a complex configuration of shock waves and discontinuities.

The model sound speed determination for the plane shear fluid flow problem solving by the SPH method
Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 2, pp. 339-351The problem discrete statement by the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method (SPH) include a discretization constants parameters set. Of them particular note is the model sound speed $c_0$, which relates the SPH-particle instantaneous density to the resulting pressure through the equation of state.
The paper describes an approach to the exact determination of the model sound speed required value. It is on the analysis based, how SPH-particle density changes with their relative shift. An example of the continuous medium motion taken the plane shear flow problem; the analysis object is the relative compaction function $\varepsilon_\rho$ in the SPH-particle. For various smoothing kernels was research the functions of $\varepsilon_\rho$, that allowed the pulsating nature of the pressures occurrence in particles to establish. Also the neighbors uniform distribution in the smoothing domain was determined, at which shaping the maximum of compaction in the particle.
Through comparison the function $\varepsilon_\rho$ with the SPH-approximation of motion equation is defined associate the discretization parameter $c_0$ with the smoothing kernel shape and other problem parameters. As a result, an equation is formulated that the necessary and sufficient model sound speed value provides finding. For such equation the expressions of root $c_0$ are given for three different smoothing kernels, that simplified from polynomials to numerical coefficients for the plane shear flow problem parameters.
