Procedure for constructing of explicit, implicit and symmetric simplectic schemes for numerical solving of Hamiltonian systems of equations
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 6, pp. 861-871

Equations of motion in Newtonian and Hamiltonian forms are used for classical molecular dynamics simulation of particle system time evolution. When Newton equations of motion are used for finding of particle coordinates and velocities in $N$-particle system it takes to solve $3N$ ordinary differential equations of second order at every time step. Traditionally numerical schemes of Verlet method are used for solving Newtonian equations of motion of molecular dynamics. A step of integration is necessary to decrease for Verlet numerical schemes steadiness conservation on sufficiently large time intervals. It leads to a significant increase of the volume of calculations. Numerical schemes of Verlet method with Hamiltonian conservation control (the energy of the system) at every time moment are used in the most software packages of molecular dynamics for numerical integration of equations of motion. It can be used two complement each other approaches to decrease of computational time in molecular dynamics calculations. The first of these approaches is based on enhancement and software optimization of existing software packages of molecular dynamics by using of vectorization, parallelization and special processor construction. The second one is based on the elaboration of efficient methods for numerical integration for equations of motion. A procedure for constructing of explicit, implicit and symmetric symplectic numerical schemes with given approximation accuracy in relation to integration step for solving of molecular dynamic equations of motion in Hamiltonian form is proposed in this work. The approach for construction of proposed in this work procedure is based on the following points: Hamiltonian formulation of equations of motion; usage of Taylor expansion of exact solution; usage of generating functions, for geometrical properties of exact solution conservation, in derivation of numerical schemes. Numerical experiments show that obtained in this work symmetric symplectic third-order accuracy scheme conserves basic properties of the exact solution in the approximate solution. It is more stable for approximation step and conserves Hamiltonian of the system with more accuracy at a large integration interval then second order Verlet numerical schemes.

Bayesian localization for autonomous vehicle using sensor fusion and traffic signs
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 3, pp. 295-303

The localization of a vehicle is an important task in the field of intelligent transportation systems. It is well known that sensor fusion helps to create more robust and accurate systems for autonomous vehicles. Standard approaches, like extended Kalman Filter or Particle Filter, are inefficient in case of highly non-linear data or have high computational cost, which complicates using them in embedded systems. Significant increase of precision, especially in case when GPS (Global Positioning System) is unavailable, may be achieved by using landmarks with known location — such as traffic signs, traffic lights, or SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) features. However, this approach may be inapplicable if a priori locations are unknown or not accurate enough. We suggest a new approach for refining coordinates of a vehicle by using landmarks, such as traffic signs. Core part of the suggested system is the Bayesian framework, which refines vehicle location using external data about the previous traffic signs detections, collected with crowdsourcing. This paper presents an approach that combines trajectories built using global coordinates from GPS and relative coordinates from Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to produce a vehicle's trajectory in an unknown environment. In addition, we collected a new dataset, including from smartphone GPS and IMU sensors, video feed from windshield camera, which were recorded during 4 car rides on the same route. Also, we collected precise location data from Real Time Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System (RTK-GNSS) device, which can be used for validation. This RTK-GNSS system was used to collect precise data about the traffic signs locations on the route as well. The results show that the Bayesian approach helps with the trajectory correction and gives better estimations with the increase of the amount of the prior information. The suggested method is efficient and requires, apart from the GPS/IMU measurements, only information about the vehicle locations during previous traffic signs detections.

  3. The work is devoted to numerical modeling of two-phase flows, namely, the calculation of supersonic flow around a blunt body by a viscous gas flow with an admixture of large high inertia particles. The system of unsteady Navier – Stokes equations is numerically solved by the meshless method. It uses the cloud of points in space to represent the fields of gas parameters. The spatial derivatives of gas parameters and functions are approximated by the least square method to calculate convective and viscous fluxes in the Navier – Stokes system of equations. The convective fluxes are calculated by the HLLC method. The third-order MUSCL reconstruction scheme is used to achieve high order accuracy. The viscous fluxes are calculated by the second order approximation scheme. The streamlined body surface is represented by a model of an isothermal wall. It implements the conditions for the zero velocity and zero pressure gradient, which is also modeled using the least squares method.

Every moving body is surrounded by its own cloud of points belongs to body’s domain and moving along with it in space. The explicit three-sage Runge–Kutta method is used to solve numerically the system of gas dynamics equations in the main coordinate system and local coordinate systems of each particle.

Two methods for the moving objects modeling with reverse impact on the gas flow have been implemented. The first one uses stationary point clouds with fixed neighbors within the same domain. When regions overlap, some nodes of one domain, for example, the boundary nodes of the particle domain, are excluded from the calculation and filled with the values of gas parameters from the nearest nodes of another domain using the least squares approximation of gradients. The internal nodes of the particle domain are used to reconstruct the gas parameters in the overlapped nodes of the main domain. The second method also uses the exclusion of nodes in overlapping areas, but in this case the nodes of another domain take the place of the excluded neighbors to build a single connected cloud of nodes. At the same time, some of the nodes are moving, and some are stationary. Nodes membership to different domains and their relative speed are taken into account when calculating fluxes.

The results of modeling the motion of a particle in a stationary gas and the flow around a stationary particle by an incoming flow at the same relative velocity show good agreement for both presented methods.

Stability investigation of finite-difference schemes of lattice Boltzmann method for diffusion modelling
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 3, pp. 485-500

Stability of finite difference schemes of lattice Boltzmann method for modelling of 1D diffusion for cases of D1Q2 and D1Q3 lattices is investigated. Finite difference schemes are constructed for the system of linear Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook (BGK) kinetic equations on single particle distribution functions. Brief review of articles of other authors is realized. With application of multiscale expansion by Chapman–Enskog method it is demonstrated that system of BGK kinetic equations at small Knudsen number is transformated to scalar linear diffusion equation. The solution of linear diffusion equation is obtained as a sum of single particle distribution functions. The method of linear travelling wave propagation is used to show the unconditional asymptotic stability of the solution of Cauchy problem for the system of BGK equations at all values of relaxation time. Stability of the scheme for D1Q2 lattice is demonstrated by the method of differential approximation. Stability condition is written in form of the inequality on values of relaxation time. The possibility of the reduction of stability analysis of the schemes for BGK equations to the analysis of special schemes for diffusion equation for the case of D1Q3 lattice is investigated. Numerical stability investigation is realized by von Neumann method. Absolute values of the eigenvalues of the transition matrix are investigated in parameter space of the schemes. It is demonstrated that in wide range of the parameters changing the values of modulas of eigenvalues are lower than unity, so the scheme is stable with respect to initial conditions.

Numerical calculation of planar geophysical flows of an inviscid incompressible fluid by a meshfree-spectral method
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 3, pp. 413-426

In this article, a meshfree-spectral method for numerical investigation of dynamics of planar geophysical flows is proposed. We investigate inviscid incompressible fluid flows with the presence of planetary rotation. Mathematically this problem is described by the non-steady system of two partial differential equations in terms of stream and vorticity functions with different boundary conditions (closed flow region and periodic conditions). The proposed method is based on several assumptions. First of all, the vorticity field is given by its values on the set of particles. The function of vorticity distribution is approximated by piecewise cubic polynomials. Coefficients of polynomials are found by least squares method. The stream function is calculated by using the spectral global Bubnov –Galerkin method at each time step.

The dynamics of fluid particles is calculated by pseudo-symplectic Runge –Kutta method. A detailed version of the method for periodic boundary conditions is described in this article for the first time. The adequacy of numerical scheme was examined on test examples. The dynamics of the configuration of four identical circular vortex patches with constant vorticity located at the vertices of a square with a center at the pole is investigated by numerical experiments. The effect of planetary rotation and the radius of patches on the dynamics and formation of vortex structures is studied. It is shown that, depending on the direction of rotation, the Coriolis force can enhance or slow down the processes of interaction and mixing of the distributed vortices. At large radii the vortex structure does not stabilize.

Numerical study of the interaction of a shock wave with moving rotating bodies with a complex shape
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 3, pp. 513-540

The work is devoted to the development of a computational algorithm of the Cartesian grid method for studying the interaction of a shock wave with moving bodies with a piecewise linear boundary. The interest in such problems is connected with direct numerical simulation of two-phase media flows. The effect of the particle shape can be important in the problem of dust layer dispersion behind a passing shock wave. Experimental data on the coefficient of aerodynamic drag of non-spherical particles are practically absent.

Mathematical model is based on the two-dimensional Euler equations, which are solved in a region with varying boundaries. The defining system of equations is integrated using an explicit scheme and the Cartesian grid method. The computational algorithm at the time integration step includes: determining the step value, calculating the dynamics of the body movement (determining the force and moment acting on the body; determining the linear and angular velocities of the body; calculating the new coordinates of the body), calculating the gas parameters. At each time step, all cells are divided into two classes – external (inside the body or intersected by its boundaries) and internal (completely filled with gas). The solution of the Euler equations is constructed only in the internal ones. The main difficulty is the calculation of the numerical flux through the edges common to the internal and external cells intersected by the moving boundaries of the bodies. To calculate this flux, we use a two-wave approximation for solving the Riemann problem and the Steger-Warming scheme. A detailed description of the numerical algorithm is presented.

The efficiency of the algorithm is demonstrated on the problem of lifting a cylinder with a base in the form of a circle, ellipse and rectangle behind a passing shock wave. A circular cylinder test was considered in many papers devoted to the immersed boundary methods development. A qualitative and quantitative analysis of the trajectory of the cylinder center mass is carried out on the basis of comparison with the results of simulations presented in eight other works. For a cylinder with a base in the form of an ellipse and a rectangle, a satisfactory agreement was obtained on the dynamics of its movement and rotation in comparison with the available few literary sources. Grid convergence of the results is investigated for the rectangle. It is shown that the relative error of mass conservation law fulfillment decreases with a linear rate.

A multilayer neural network for determination of particle size distribution in Dynamic Light Scattering problem
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 2, pp. 265-273

Solution of Dynamic Light Scattering problem makes it possible to determine particle size distribution (PSD) from the spectrum of the intensity of scattered light. As a result of experiment, an intensity curve is obtained. The experimentally obtained spectrum of intensity is compared with the theoretically expected spectrum, which is the Lorentzian line. The main task is to determine on the basis of these data the relative concentrations of particles of each class presented in the solution. The article presents a method for constructing and using a neural network trained on synthetic data to determine PSD in a solution in the range of 1–500 nm. The neural network has a fully connected layer of 60 neurons with the RELU activation function at the output, a layer of 45 neurons and the same activation function, a dropout layer and 2 layers with 15 and 1 neurons (network output). The article describes how the network has been trained and tested on synthetic and experimental data. On the synthetic data, the standard deviation metric (rmse) gave a value of 1.3157 nm. Experimental data were obtained for particle sizes of 200 nm, 400 nm and a solution with representatives of both sizes. The results of the neural network and the classical linear methods are compared. The disadvantages of the classical methods are that it is difficult to determine the degree of regularization: too much regularization leads to the particle size distribution curves are much smoothed out, and weak regularization gives oscillating curves and low reliability of the results. The paper shows that the neural network gives a good prediction for particles with a large size. For small sizes, the prediction is worse, but the error quickly decreases as the particle size increases.
