Calibration of model parameters for calculating correspondence matrix for Moscow
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 5, pp. 961-978In this paper, we consider the problem of restoring the correspondence matrix based on the observations of real correspondences in Moscow. Following the conventional approach [Gasnikov et al., 2013], the transport network is considered as a directed graph whose edges correspond to road sections and the graph vertices correspond to areas that the traffic participants leave or enter. The number of city residents is considered constant. The problem of restoring the correspondence matrix is to calculate all the correspondence from the $i$ area to the $j$ area.
To restore the matrix, we propose to use one of the most popular methods of calculating the correspondence matrix in urban studies — the entropy model. In our work, which is based on the work [Wilson, 1978], we describe the evolutionary justification of the entropy model and the main idea of the transition to solving the problem of entropy-linear programming (ELP) in calculating the correspondence matrix. To solve the ELP problem, it is proposed to pass to the dual problem. In this paper, we describe several numerical optimization methods for solving this problem: the Sinkhorn method and the Accelerated Sinkhorn method. We provide numerical experiments for the following variants of cost functions: a linear cost function and a superposition of the power and logarithmic cost functions. In these functions, the cost is a combination of average time and distance between areas, which depends on the parameters. The correspondence matrix is calculated for multiple sets of parameters and then we calculate the quality of the restored matrix relative to the known correspondence matrix.
We assume that the noise in the restored correspondence matrix is Gaussian, as a result, we use the standard deviation as a quality metric. The article provides an overview of gradient-free optimization methods for solving non-convex problems. Since the number of parameters of the cost function is small, we use the grid search method to find the optimal parameters of the cost function. Thus, the correspondence matrix calculated for each set of parameters and then the quality of the restored matrix is evaluated relative to the known correspondence matrix. Further, according to the minimum residual value for each cost function, we determine for which cost function and at what parameter values the restored matrix best describes real correspondence.

Simulation of rail vehicles ride in Simpack Rail on the curved track
Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 2, pp. 249-263Views (last year): 20.The paper studies the determination for one of the dynamic quality parameter (PDK) of railway vehicles — car body lateral acceleration — by using of computer simulation system for railway vehicles dynamic Simpack Rail. This provide the complex simulation environment with variable velocity depending on the train schedule. The rail vehicle model of typical 1520 mm gauge fright locomotive section used for simulation has been verified by means of the chair “Electric multiple unit cars and locomotives” in the Russian University of Transport (RUT (MIIT)). Due to this homologation the questions of model creating and verification in preprocessor are excluded in this paper. The paper gives the detail description of cartographic track modeling in situation plane, heights plane and superelevation plane based on the real operating data. The statistic parameters (moments) for the rail related track excitation and used cartographic track data of the specified track section in this simulation are given as a numeric and graphical results of reading the prepared data files. The measurement of the car body residual lateral acceleration occur under consideration of the earth gravity acceleration part like the accelerometer measurement in the real world. Finally the desired quality parameter determined by simulation is compared with the same one given by a test drive. The calculation method in both cases is based on the middle value of the absolute maximums picked up within the nonstationary realizations of this parameter. Compared results confirm that this quality factor all the first depends on the velocity and track geometry properties. The simulation of the track in this application uses the strong conformity original track data of the test ride track section. The accepted simplification in the rail vehicle model of fright electric locomotive section (body properties related to the center of gravity, small displacements between the bodies) by keeping the geometric and force law characteristics of the force elements and constraints constant allow in Simpack Rail the simulation with necessary validity of system behavior (reactions).

Application of gradient optimization methods to solve the Cauchy problem for the Helmholtz equation
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 2, pp. 417-444The article is devoted to studying the application of convex optimization methods to solve the Cauchy problem for the Helmholtz equation, which is ill-posed since the equation belongs to the elliptic type. The Cauchy problem is formulated as an inverse problem and is reduced to a convex optimization problem in a Hilbert space. The functional to be optimized and its gradient are calculated using the solution of boundary value problems, which, in turn, are well-posed and can be approximately solved by standard numerical methods, such as finite-difference schemes and Fourier series expansions. The convergence of the applied fast gradient method and the quality of the solution obtained in this way are experimentally investigated. The experiment shows that the accelerated gradient method — the Similar Triangle Method — converges faster than the non-accelerated method. Theorems on the computational complexity of the resulting algorithms are formulated and proved. It is found that Fourier’s series expansions are better than finite-difference schemes in terms of the speed of calculations and improve the quality of the solution obtained. An attempt was made to use restarts of the Similar Triangle Method after halving the residual of the functional. In this case, the convergence does not improve, which confirms the absence of strong convexity. The experiments show that the inaccuracy of the calculations is more adequately described by the additive concept of the noise in the first-order oracle. This factor limits the achievable quality of the solution, but the error does not accumulate. According to the results obtained, the use of accelerated gradient optimization methods can be the way to solve inverse problems effectively.
