Neumann's method to solve boundary problems of elastic thin shells
Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 6, pp. 1143-1153Views (last year): 3.This paper studies possibilities to use Neumann's method to solve boundary problems of elastic thin shells. Variational statement of statical problems for shells allows examining the problems within the space of distributions. Convergence of the Neumann's method is proved for the shells with holes when the boundary of the domain is not completely fixed. Numerical implementation of the Neumann's method normally takes a lot of time before some reliable results can be achieved. This paper suggests a way to improve convergence of the process and allows for parallel computing and checkout procedure during calculations.

Cellular automata methods in mathematical physics classical problems solving on hexagonal grid. Part 2
Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 4, pp. 547-566Views (last year): 6.The second part of paper is devoted to final study of three classic partial differential equations (Laplace, Diffusion and Wave) solution using simple numerical methods in terms of Cellular Automata. Specificity of this solution has been shown by different examples, which are related to the hexagonal grid. Also the next statements that are mentioned in the first part have been proved: the matter conservation law and the offensive effect of excessive hexagonal symmetry.
From the point of CA view diffusion equation is the most important. While solving of diffusion equation at the infinite time interval we can find solution of boundary value problem of Laplace equation and if we introduce vector-variable we will solve wave equation (at least, for scalar). The critical requirement for the sampling of the boundary conditions for CA-cells has been shown during the solving of problem of circular membrane vibrations with Neumann boundary conditions. CA-calculations using the simple scheme and Margolus rotary-block mechanism were compared for the quasione-dimensional problem “diffusion in the half-space”. During the solving of mixed task of circular membrane vibration with the fixed ends in a classical case it has been shown that the simultaneous application of the Crank–Nicholson method and taking into account of the second-order terms is allowed to avoid the effect of excessive hexagonal symmetry that was studied for a simple scheme.
By the example of the centrally symmetric Neumann problem a new method of spatial derivatives introducing into the postfix CA procedure, which is reflecting the time derivatives (on the base of the continuity equation) was demonstrated. The value of the constant that is related to these derivatives has been empirically found in the case of central symmetry. The low rate of convergence and accuracy that limited within the boundaries of the sample, in contrary to the formal precision of the method (4-th order), prevents the using of the CAmethods for such problems. We recommend using multigrid method. During the solving of the quasi-diffusion equations (two-dimensional CA) it was showing that the rotary-block mechanism of CA (Margolus mechanism) is more effective than simple CA.

Modification of the lattice Boltzmann method for the computations of viscid incompressible fluid flows
Computer Research and Modeling, 2014, v. 6, no. 3, pp. 365-381Modification of the lattice Boltzmann method for computation of viscous incompressible fluid flows is proposed. The method is based on the splitting of differential operator in Navier–Stokes equation and on the idea of instantaneous Maxwellisation of distribution function. The method is based on explicit schemes and didn’t have any problems with parallelization of computations. The stability of the method is demonstrated using von Neumann method in a wide range of input parameter values. The efficiency of the method proposed is demonstrated on the solution of the problem of 2D lid-driven cavity flow.

Equilibrium states of the second kind of the Kuramoto – Sivashinsky equation with the homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions
Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 1, pp. 59-69Views (last year): 27.The well-known evolutionary equation of mathematical physics, which in modern mathematical literature is called the Kuramoto – Sivashinsky equation, is considered. In this paper, this equation is studied in the original edition of the authors, where it was proposed, together with the homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions.
The question of the existence and stability of local attractors formed by spatially inhomogeneous solutions of the boundary value problem under study has been studied. This issue has become particularly relevant recently in connection with the simulation of the formation of nanostructures on the surface of semiconductors under the influence of an ion flux or laser radiation. The question of the existence and stability of second-order equilibrium states has been studied in two different ways. In the first of these, the Galerkin method was used. The second approach is based on using strictly grounded methods of the theory of dynamic systems with infinite-dimensional phase space: the method of integral manifolds, the theory of normal forms, asymptotic methods.
In the work, in general, the approach from the well-known work of D.Armbruster, D.Guckenheimer, F.Holmes is repeated, where the approach based on the application of the Galerkin method is used. The results of this analysis are substantially supplemented and developed. Using the capabilities of modern computers has helped significantly complement the analysis of this task. In particular, to find all the solutions in the fourand five-term Galerkin approximations, which for the studied boundary-value problem should be interpreted as equilibrium states of the second kind. An analysis of their stability in the sense of A. M. Lyapunov’s definition is also given.
In this paper, we compare the results obtained using the Galerkin method with the results of a bifurcation analysis of a boundary value problem based on the use of qualitative analysis methods for infinite-dimensional dynamic systems. Comparison of two variants of results showed some limited possibilities of using the Galerkin method.

Solution to a two-dimensional nonlinear heat equation using null field method
Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 6, pp. 1449-1467The paper deals with a heat wave motion problem for a degenerate second-order nonlinear parabolic equation with power nonlinearity. The considered boundary condition specifies in a plane the motion equation of the circular zero front of the heat wave. A new numerical-analytical algorithm for solving the problem is proposed. A solution is constructed stepby- step in time using difference time discretization. At each time step, a boundary value problem for the Poisson equation corresponding to the original equation at a fixed time is considered. This problem is, in fact, an inverse Cauchy problem in the domain whose initial boundary is free of boundary conditions and two boundary conditions (Neumann and Dirichlet) are specified on a current boundary (heat wave). A solution of this problem is constructed as the sum of a particular solution to the nonhomogeneous Poisson equation and a solution to the corresponding Laplace equation satisfying the boundary conditions. Since the inhomogeneity depends on the desired function and its derivatives, an iterative solution procedure is used. The particular solution is sought by the collocation method using inhomogeneity expansion in radial basis functions. The inverse Cauchy problem for the Laplace equation is solved by the null field method as applied to a circular domain with a circular hole. This method is used for the first time to solve such problem. The calculation algorithm is optimized by parallelizing the computations. The parallelization of the computations allows us to realize effectively the algorithm on high performance computing servers. The algorithm is implemented as a program, which is parallelized by using the OpenMP standard for the C++ language, suitable for calculations with parallel cycles. The effectiveness of the algorithm and the robustness of the program are tested by the comparison of the calculation results with the known exact solution as well as with the numerical solution obtained earlier by the authors with the use of the boundary element method. The implemented computational experiment shows good convergence of the iteration processes and higher calculation accuracy of the proposed new algorithm than of the previously developed one. The solution analysis allows us to select the radial basis functions which are most suitable for the proposed algorithm.

Stability investigation of finite-difference schemes of lattice Boltzmann method for diffusion modelling
Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 3, pp. 485-500Stability of finite difference schemes of lattice Boltzmann method for modelling of 1D diffusion for cases of D1Q2 and D1Q3 lattices is investigated. Finite difference schemes are constructed for the system of linear Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook (BGK) kinetic equations on single particle distribution functions. Brief review of articles of other authors is realized. With application of multiscale expansion by Chapman–Enskog method it is demonstrated that system of BGK kinetic equations at small Knudsen number is transformated to scalar linear diffusion equation. The solution of linear diffusion equation is obtained as a sum of single particle distribution functions. The method of linear travelling wave propagation is used to show the unconditional asymptotic stability of the solution of Cauchy problem for the system of BGK equations at all values of relaxation time. Stability of the scheme for D1Q2 lattice is demonstrated by the method of differential approximation. Stability condition is written in form of the inequality on values of relaxation time. The possibility of the reduction of stability analysis of the schemes for BGK equations to the analysis of special schemes for diffusion equation for the case of D1Q3 lattice is investigated. Numerical stability investigation is realized by von Neumann method. Absolute values of the eigenvalues of the transition matrix are investigated in parameter space of the schemes. It is demonstrated that in wide range of the parameters changing the values of modulas of eigenvalues are lower than unity, so the scheme is stable with respect to initial conditions.

On the efficiency of the maximum cross section method in radiation transport theory
Computer Research and Modeling, 2013, v. 5, no. 4, pp. 573-582Views (last year): 4. Citations: 2 (RSCI).We consider two versions of the maximum cross section method for the solutions of the stationary equation of radiative transfer in dimensional inhomogeneous medium. Both are based on the application Monte-Carlo method to the summation of the Neumann series for the solution transport equation. First modification is traditional and second is based on the use of branching Markov chains. We carried out numerical comparison of these algorithms.

Investigation of individual-based mechanisms of single-species population dynamics by logical deterministic cellular automata
Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 6, pp. 1279-1293Views (last year): 16. Citations: 3 (RSCI).Investigation of logical deterministic cellular automata models of population dynamics allows to reveal detailed individual-based mechanisms. The search for such mechanisms is important in connection with ecological problems caused by overexploitation of natural resources, environmental pollution and climate change. Classical models of population dynamics have the phenomenological nature, as they are “black boxes”. Phenomenological models fundamentally complicate research of detailed mechanisms of ecosystem functioning. We have investigated the role of fecundity and duration of resources regeneration in mechanisms of population growth using four models of ecosystem with one species. These models are logical deterministic cellular automata and are based on physical axiomatics of excitable medium with regeneration. We have modeled catastrophic death of population arising from increasing of resources regeneration duration. It has been shown that greater fecundity accelerates population extinction. The investigated mechanisms are important for understanding mechanisms of sustainability of ecosystems and biodiversity conservation. Prospects of the presented modeling approach as a method of transparent multilevel modeling of complex systems are discussed.

Numerical study of intense shock waves in dusty media with a homogeneous and two-component carrier phase
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 1, pp. 141-154The article is devoted to the numerical study of shock-wave flows in inhomogeneous media–gas mixtures. In this work, a two-speed two-temperature model is used, in which the dispersed component of the mixture has its own speed and temperature. To describe the change in the concentration of the dispersed component, the equation of conservation of “average density” is solved. This study took into account interphase thermal interaction and interphase pulse exchange. The mathematical model allows the carrier component of the mixture to be described as a viscous, compressible and heat-conducting medium. The system of equations was solved using the explicit Mac-Cormack second-order finite-difference method. To obtain a monotone numerical solution, a nonlinear correction scheme was applied to the grid function. In the problem of shock-wave flow, the Dirichlet boundary conditions were specified for the velocity components, and the Neumann boundary conditions were specified for the other unknown functions. In numerical calculations, in order to reveal the dependence of the dynamics of the entire mixture on the properties of the solid component, various parameters of the dispersed phase were considered — the volume content as well as the linear size of the dispersed inclusions. The goal of the research was to determine how the properties of solid inclusions affect the parameters of the dynamics of the carrier medium — gas. The motion of an inhomogeneous medium in a shock duct divided into two parts was studied, the gas pressure in one of the channel compartments is more important than in the other. The article simulated the movement of a direct shock wave from a high-pressure chamber to a low–pressure chamber filled with a dusty medium and the subsequent reflection of a shock wave from a solid surface. An analysis of numerical calculations showed that a decrease in the linear particle size of the gas suspension and an increase in the physical density of the material from which the particles are composed leads to the formation of a more intense reflected shock wave with a higher temperature and gas density, as well as a lower speed of movement of the reflected disturbance reflected wave.

The applicability of the approximation of single scattering in pulsed sensing of an inhomogeneous medium
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 5, pp. 1063-1079The mathematical model based on the linear integro-differential Boltzmann equation is considered in this article. The model describes the radiation transfer in the scattering medium irradiated by a point source. The inverse problem for the transfer equation is defined. This problem consists of determining the scattering coefficient from the time-angular distribution of the radiation flux density at a given point in space. The Neumann series representation for solving the radiation transfer equation is analyzed in the study of the inverse problem. The zero member of the series describes the unscattered radiation, the first member of the series describes a single-scattered field, the remaining members of the series describe a multiple-scattered field. When calculating the approximate solution of the radiation transfer equation, the single scattering approximation is widespread to calculated an approximate solution of the equation for regions with a small optical thickness and a low level of scattering. An analytical formula is obtained for finding the scattering coefficient by using this approximation for problem with additional restrictions on the initial data. To verify the adequacy of the obtained formula the Monte Carlo weighted method for solving the transfer equation is constructed and software implemented taking into account multiple scattering in the medium and the space-time singularity of the radiation source. As applied to the problems of high-frequency acoustic sensing in the ocean, computational experiments were carried out. The application of the single scattering approximation is justified, at least, at a sensing range of about one hundred meters and the double and triple scattered fields make the main impact on the formula error. For larger regions, the single scattering approximation gives at the best only a qualitative evaluation of the medium structure, sometimes it even does not allow to determine the order of the parameters quantitative characteristics of the interaction of radiation with matter.
