Procedure for constructing of explicit, implicit and symmetric simplectic schemes for numerical solving of Hamiltonian systems of equations
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 6, pp. 861-871

Equations of motion in Newtonian and Hamiltonian forms are used for classical molecular dynamics simulation of particle system time evolution. When Newton equations of motion are used for finding of particle coordinates and velocities in $N$-particle system it takes to solve $3N$ ordinary differential equations of second order at every time step. Traditionally numerical schemes of Verlet method are used for solving Newtonian equations of motion of molecular dynamics. A step of integration is necessary to decrease for Verlet numerical schemes steadiness conservation on sufficiently large time intervals. It leads to a significant increase of the volume of calculations. Numerical schemes of Verlet method with Hamiltonian conservation control (the energy of the system) at every time moment are used in the most software packages of molecular dynamics for numerical integration of equations of motion. It can be used two complement each other approaches to decrease of computational time in molecular dynamics calculations. The first of these approaches is based on enhancement and software optimization of existing software packages of molecular dynamics by using of vectorization, parallelization and special processor construction. The second one is based on the elaboration of efficient methods for numerical integration for equations of motion. A procedure for constructing of explicit, implicit and symmetric symplectic numerical schemes with given approximation accuracy in relation to integration step for solving of molecular dynamic equations of motion in Hamiltonian form is proposed in this work. The approach for construction of proposed in this work procedure is based on the following points: Hamiltonian formulation of equations of motion; usage of Taylor expansion of exact solution; usage of generating functions, for geometrical properties of exact solution conservation, in derivation of numerical schemes. Numerical experiments show that obtained in this work symmetric symplectic third-order accuracy scheme conserves basic properties of the exact solution in the approximate solution. It is more stable for approximation step and conserves Hamiltonian of the system with more accuracy at a large integration interval then second order Verlet numerical schemes.

  2. We present the iterative algorithm that solves numerically both Urysohn type Fredholm and Volterra nonlinear one-dimensional nonsingular integral equations of the second kind to a specified, modest user-defined accuracy. The algorithm is based on descending recursive sequence of quadratures. Convergence of numerical scheme is guaranteed by fixed-point theorems. Picard’s method of integrating successive approximations is of great importance for the existence theory of integral equations but surprisingly very little appears on numerical algorithms for its direct implementation in the literature. We show that successive approximations method can be readily employed in numerical solution of integral equations. By that the quadrature algorithm is thoroughly designed. It is based on the explicit form of fifth-order embedded Runge–Kutta rule with adaptive step-size self-control. Since local error estimates may be cheaply obtained, continuous monitoring of the quadrature makes it possible to create very accurate automatic numerical schemes and to reduce considerably the main drawback of Picard iterations namely the extremely large amount of computations with increasing recursion depth. Our algorithm is organized so that as compared to most approaches the nonlinearity of integral equations does not induce any additional computational difficulties, it is very simple to apply and to make a program realization. Our algorithm exhibits some features of universality. First, it should be stressed that the method is as easy to apply to nonlinear as to linear equations of both Fredholm and Volterra kind. Second, the algorithm is equipped by stopping rules by which the calculations may to considerable extent be controlled automatically. A compact C++-code of described algorithm is presented. Our program realization is self-consistent: it demands no preliminary calculations, no external libraries and no additional memory is needed. Numerical examples are provided to show applicability, efficiency, robustness and accuracy of our approach.

Bicompact schemes for gas dynamics problems: introducing complex domains using the free boundary method
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 3, pp. 487-504

This work is dedicated to application of bicompact schemes to numerical solution of evolutionary hyperbolic equations. The main advantage of this class of schemes lies in combination of two beneficial properties: the first one is spatial approximation of high even order on a stencil that always occupies only one mesh cell; the second one is spectral resolution which is better in comparison to classic compact finite-difference schemes of the same order of spatial approximation. One feature of bicompact schemes is considered: their spatial approximation is rigidly tied to Cartesian meshes (with parallelepiped-shaped cells in three-dimensional case). This feature makes rather challenging any application of bicompact schemes to problems with complex computational domains as treated in the framework of unstructured meshes. This problem is proposed to be solved using well-known methods for treating complex-shaped boundaries and their corresponding boundary conditions on Cartesian meshes. The generalization of bicompact schemes on problems in geometrically complex domains is made in case of gas dynamics problems and Euler equations. The free boundary method is chosen as a particular tool to introduce the influence of arbitrary-shaped solid boundaries on gas flows on Cartesian meshes. A brief description of this method is given, its governing equations are written down. Bicompact schemes of fourth order of approximation in space with locally one-dimensional splitting are constructed for equations of the free boundary method. Its compensation flux is discretized with second order of accuracy. Time stepping in the obtained schemes is done with the implicit Euler method and the third order accurate $L$-stable stiffly accurate three-stage singly diagonally implicit Runge–Kutta method. The designed bicompact schemes are tested on three two-dimensional problems: stationary supersonic flows with Mach number three past one circular cylinder and past three circular cylinders; the non-stationary interaction of planar shock wave with a circular cylinder in a channel with planar parallel walls. The obtained results are in a good agreement with other works: influence of solid bodies on gas flows is physically correct, pressure in control points on solid surfaces is calculated with the accuracy appropriate to the chosen mesh resolution and level of numerical dissipation.

Modeling the structure of a complex system based on estimation of the measure of interaction of subsystems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 4, pp. 707-719

The using of determining the measure of interaction between channels when choosing the configuration structure of a control system for complex dynamic objects is considered in the work. The main methods for determining the measure of interaction between subsystems of complex control systems based on the methods RGA (Relative Gain Array), Dynamic RGA, HIIA (Hankel Interaction Index Array), PM (Participation matrix) are presented. When choosing a control configuration, simple configurations are preferable, as they are simple in design, maintenance and more resistant to failures. However, complex configurations provide higher performance control systems. Processes in large dynamic objects are characterized by a high degree of interaction between process variables. For the design of the control structure interaction measures are used, namely, the selection of the control structure and the decision on the configuration of the controller. The choice of control structure is to determine which dynamic connections should be used to design the controller. When a structure is selected, connections can be used to configure the controller. For large systems, it is proposed to pre-group the components of the vectors of input and output signals of the actuators and sensitive elements into sets in which the number of variables decreases significantly in order to select a control structure. A quantitative estimation of the decentralization of the control system based on minimizing the sum of the off-diagonal elements of the PM matrix is given. An example of estimation the measure of interaction between components of strong coupled subsystems and the measure of interaction between components of weak coupled subsystems is given. A quantitative estimation is given of neglecting the interaction of components of weak coupled subsystems. The construction of a weighted graph for visualizing the interaction of the subsystems of a complex system is considered. A method for the formation of the controllability gramian on the vector of output signals that is invariant to state vector transformations is proposed in the paper. An example of the decomposition of the stabilization system of the components of the flying vehicle angular velocity vector is given. The estimation of measures of the mutual influence of processes in the channels of control systems makes it possible to increase the reliability of the systems when accounting for the use of analytical redundancy of information from various devices, which reduces the mass and energy consumption. Methods for assessing measures of the interaction of processes in subsystems of control systems can be used in the design of complex systems, for example, motion control systems, orientation and stabilization systems of vehicles.

Method of forming multiprogram control of an isolated intersection
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 2, pp. 295-303

The simplest and most desirable method of traffic signal control is precalculated regulation, when the parameters of the traffic light object operation are calculated in advance and activated in accordance to a schedule. This work proposes a method of forming a signal plan that allows one to calculate the control programs and set the period of their activity. Preparation of initial data for the calculation includes the formation of a time series of daily traffic intensity with an interval of 15 minutes. When carrying out field studies, it is possible that part of the traffic intensity measurements is missing. To fill up the missing traffic intensity measurements, the spline interpolation method is used. The next step of the method is to calculate the daily set of signal plans. The work presents the interdependencies, which allow one to calculate the optimal durations of the control cycle and the permitting phase movement and to set the period of their activity. The present movement control systems have a limit on the number of control programs. To reduce the signal plans' number and to determine their activity period, the clusterization using the $k$-means method in the transport phase space is introduced In the new daily signal plan, the duration of the phases is determined by the coordinates of the received cluster centers, and the activity periods are set by the elements included in the cluster. Testing on a numerical illustration showed that, when the number of clusters is 10, the deviation of the optimal phase duration from the cluster centers does not exceed 2 seconds. To evaluate the effectiveness of the developed methodology, a real intersection with traffic light regulation was considered as an example. Based on field studies of traffic patterns and traffic demand, a microscopic model for the SUMO (Simulation of Urban Mobility) program was developed. The efficiency assessment is based on the transport losses estimated by the time spent on movement. Simulation modeling of the multiprogram control of traffic lights showed a 20% reduction in the delay time at the traffic light object in comparison with the single-program control. The proposed method allows automation of the process of calculating daily signal plans and setting the time of their activity.

Neural network methods for optimal control problems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 3, pp. 539-557

In this study we discuss methods to solve optimal control problems based on neural network techniques. We study hierarchical dynamical two-level system for surface water quality control. The system consists of a supervisor (government) and a few agents (enterprises). We consider this problem from the point of agents. In this case we solve optimal control problem with constraints. To solve this problem, we use Pontryagin’s maximum principle, with which we obtain optimality conditions. To solve emerging ODEs, we use feedforward neural network. We provide a review of existing techniques to study such problems and a review of neural network’s training methods. To estimate the error of numerical solution, we propose to use defect analysis method, adapted for neural networks. This allows one to get quantitative error estimations of numerical solution. We provide examples of our method’s usage for solving synthetic problem and a surface water quality control model. We compare the results of this examples with known solution (when provided) and the results of shooting method. In all cases the errors, estimated by our method are of the same order as the errors compared with known solution. Moreover, we study surface water quality control problem when no solutions is provided by other methods. This happens because of relatively large time interval and/or the case of several agents. In the latter case we seek Nash equilibrium between agents. Thus, in this study we show the ability of neural networks to solve various problems including optimal control problems and differential games and we show the ability of quantitative estimation of an error. From the numerical results we conclude that the presence of the supervisor is necessary for achieving the sustainable development.

Comparison of complex dynamical systems based on topological data analysis
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 3, pp. 513-525

The paper considers the possibility of comparing and classifying dynamical systems based on topological data analysis. Determining the measures of interaction between the channels of dynamic systems based on the HIIA (Hankel Interaction Index Array) and PM (Participation Matrix) methods allows you to build HIIA and PM graphs and their adjacency matrices. For any linear dynamic system, an approximating directed graph can be constructed, the vertices of which correspond to the components of the state vector of the dynamic system, and the arcs correspond to the measures of mutual influence of the components of the state vector. Building a measure of distance (proximity) between graphs of different dynamic systems is important, for example, for identifying normal operation or failures of a dynamic system or a control system. To compare and classify dynamic systems, weighted directed graphs corresponding to dynamic systems are preliminarily formed with edge weights corresponding to the measures of interaction between the channels of the dynamic system. Based on the HIIA and PM methods, matrices of measures of interaction between the channels of dynamic systems are determined. The paper gives examples of the formation of weighted directed graphs for various dynamic systems and estimation of the distance between these systems based on topological data analysis. An example of the formation of a weighted directed graph for a dynamic system corresponding to the control system for the components of the angular velocity vector of an aircraft, which is considered as a rigid body with principal moments of inertia, is given. The method of topological data analysis used in this work to estimate the distance between the structures of dynamic systems is based on the formation of persistent barcodes and persistent landscape functions. Methods for comparing dynamic systems based on topological data analysis can be used in the classification of dynamic systems and control systems. The use of traditional algebraic topology for the analysis of objects does not allow obtaining a sufficient amount of information due to a decrease in the data dimension (due to the loss of geometric information). Methods of topological data analysis provide a balance between reducing the data dimension and characterizing the internal structure of an object. In this paper, topological data analysis methods are used, based on the use of Vietoris-Rips and Dowker filtering to assign a geometric dimension to each topological feature. Persistent landscape functions are used to map the persistent diagrams of the method of topological data analysis into the Hilbert space and then quantify the comparison of dynamic systems. Based on the construction of persistent landscape functions, we propose a comparison of graphs of dynamical systems and finding distances between dynamical systems. For this purpose, weighted directed graphs corresponding to dynamical systems are preliminarily formed. Examples of finding the distance between objects (dynamic systems) are given.

Simulation of multi-temperature flows turbulent mixing in a T-junctions by the LES approach in FlowVision software package
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 4, pp. 827-843

The paper presents the results of numerical simulation of different-temperature water flows turbulent mixing in a T-junctions in the FlowVision software package. The article describes in detail an experimental stand specially designed to obtain boundary conditions that are simple for most computational fluid dynamics software systems. Values of timeaveraged temperatures and velocities in the control sensors and planes were obtained according to the test results. The article presents the system of partial differential equations used in the calculation describing the process of heat and mass transfer in a liquid using the Smagorinsky turbulence model. Boundary conditions are specified that allow setting the random velocity pulsations at the entrance to the computational domain. Distributions of time-averaged water velocity and temperature in control sections and sensors are obtained. The simulation is performed on various computational grids, for which the axes of the global coordinate system coincide with the directions of hot and cold water flows. The possibility for FlowVision PC to construct a computational grid in the simulation process based on changes in flow parameters is shown. The influence of such an algorithm for constructing a computational grid on the results of calculations is estimated. The results of calculations on a diagonal grid using a beveled scheme are given (the direction of the coordinate lines does not coincide with the direction of the tee pipes). The high efficiency of the beveled scheme is shown when modeling flows whose general direction does not coincide with the faces of the calculated cells. A comparison of simulation results on various computational grids is carried out. The numerical results obtained in the FlowVision PC are compared with experimental data and calculations performed using other computing programs. The results of modeling turbulent mixing of water flow of different temperatures in the FlowVision PC are closer to experimental data in comparison with calculations in CFX ANSYS. It is shown that the application of the LES turbulence model on relatively small computational grids in the FlowVision PC allows obtaining results with an error within 5%.

Using feedback functions to solve parametric programming problems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 5, pp. 1125-1151

We consider a finite-dimensional optimization problem, the formulation of which in addition to the required variables contains parameters. The solution to this problem is a dependence of optimal values of variables on parameters. In general, these dependencies are not functions because they can have ambiguous meanings and in the functional case be nondifferentiable. In addition, their domain of definition may be narrower than the domains of definition of functions in the condition of the original problem. All these properties make it difficult to solve both the original parametric problem and other tasks, the statement of which includes these dependencies. To overcome these difficulties, usually methods such as non-differentiable optimization are used.

This article proposes an alternative approach that makes it possible to obtain solutions to parametric problems in a form devoid of the specified properties. It is shown that such representations can be explored using standard algorithms, based on the Taylor formula. This form is a function smoothly approximating the solution of the original problem for any parameter values, specified in its statement. In this case, the value of the approximation error is controlled by a special parameter. Construction of proposed approximations is performed using special functions that establish feedback (within optimality conditions for the original problem) between variables and Lagrange multipliers. This method is described for linear problems with subsequent generalization to the nonlinear case.

From a computational point of view the construction of the approximation consists in finding the saddle point of the modified Lagrange function of the original problem. Moreover, this modification is performed in a special way using feedback functions. It is shown that the necessary conditions for the existence of such a saddle point are similar to the conditions of the Karush – Kuhn – Tucker theorem, but do not contain constraints such as inequalities and conditions of complementary slackness. Necessary conditions for the existence of a saddle point determine this approximation implicitly. Therefore, to calculate its differential characteristics, the implicit function theorem is used. The same theorem is used to reduce the approximation error to an acceptable level.

Features of the practical implementation feedback function method, including estimates of the rate of convergence to the exact solution are demonstrated for several specific classes of parametric optimization problems. Specifically, tasks searching for the global extremum of functions of many variables and the problem of multiple extremum (maximin-minimax) are considered. Optimization problems that arise when using multicriteria mathematical models are also considered. For each of these classes, there are demo examples.

Computer model of a perfect-mixing extraction reactor in the format of the component circuits method with non-uniform vector connections
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 3, pp. 599-614

The features of the component circuits method (MCC) in modeling chemical-technological systems (CTS) are considered, taking into account its practical significance. The software and algorithmic implementation of which is currently a set of computer modeling programs MARS (Modeling and Automatic Research of Systems). MARS allows the development and analysis of mathematical models with specified experimental parameters. Research and calculations were carried out using a specialized software and hardware complex MARS, which allows the development of mathematical models with specified experimental parameters. In the course of this work, the model of a perfect-mixing reactor was developed in the MARS modeling environment taking into account the physicochemical features of the uranium extraction process in the presence of nitric acid and tributyl phosphate. As results, the curves of changes of the concentration of uranium extracted into the organic phase are presented. The possibility of using MCC for the description and analysis of CTS, including extraction processes, has been confirmed. The use of the obtained results is planned to be used in the development of a virtual laboratory, which will include the main apparatus of the chemical industry, as well as complex technical controlled systems (CTСS) based on them and will allow one to acquire a wide range of professional competencies in working with “digital twins” of real control objects, including gaining initial experience working with the main equipment of the nuclear industry. In addition to the direct applied benefits, it is also assumed that the successful implementation of the domestic complex of computer modeling programs and technologies based on the obtained results will make it possible to find solutions to the problems of organizing national technological sovereignty and import substitution.
