Synchronous components of financial time series
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 4, pp. 639-655

The article proposes a method of joint analysis of multidimensional financial time series based on the evaluation of the set of properties of stock quotes in a sliding time window and the subsequent averaging of property values for all analyzed companies. The main purpose of the analysis is to construct measures of joint behavior of time series reacting to the occurrence of a synchronous or coherent component. The coherence of the behavior of the characteristics of a complex system is an important feature that makes it possible to evaluate the approach of the system to sharp changes in its state. The basis for the search for precursors of sharp changes is the general idea of increasing the correlation of random fluctuations of the system parameters as it approaches the critical state. The increments in time series of stock values have a pronounced chaotic character and have a large amplitude of individual noises, against which a weak common signal can be detected only on the basis of its correlation in different scalar components of a multidimensional time series. It is known that classical methods of analysis based on the use of correlations between neighboring samples are ineffective in the processing of financial time series, since from the point of view of the correlation theory of random processes, increments in the value of shares formally have all the attributes of white noise (in particular, the “flat spectrum” and “delta-shaped” autocorrelation function). In connection with this, it is proposed to go from analyzing the initial signals to examining the sequences of their nonlinear properties calculated in time fragments of small length. As such properties, the entropy of the wavelet coefficients is used in the decomposition into the Daubechies basis, the multifractal parameters and the autoregressive measure of signal nonstationarity. Measures of synchronous behavior of time series properties in a sliding time window are constructed using the principal component method, moduli values of all pairwise correlation coefficients, and a multiple spectral coherence measure that is a generalization of the quadratic coherence spectrum between two signals. The shares of 16 large Russian companies from the beginning of 2010 to the end of 2016 were studied. Using the proposed method, two synchronization time intervals of the Russian stock market were identified: from mid-December 2013 to mid- March 2014 and from mid-October 2014 to mid-January 2016.

Modeling the behavior proceeding market crash in a hierarchically organized financial market
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2011, v. 3, no. 2, pp. 215-222

We consider the hierarchical model of financial crashes introduced by A. Johansen and D. Sornette which reproduces the log-periodic power law behavior of the price before the critical point. In order to build the generalization of this model we introduce the dependence of an influence exponent on an ultrametric distance between agents. Much attention is being paid to a problem of critical point universality which is investigated by comparison of probability density functions of the crash times corresponding to systems with various total numbers of agents.

On some properties of short-wave statistics of FOREX time series
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 4, pp. 657-669

Financial mathematics is one of the most natural applications for the statistical analysis of time series. Financial time series reflect simultaneous activity of a large number of different economic agents. Consequently, one expects that methods of statistical physics and the theory of random processes can be applied to them.

In this paper, we provide a statistical analysis of time series of the FOREX currency market. Of particular interest is the comparison of the time series behavior depending on the way time is measured: physical time versus trading time measured in the number of elementary price changes (ticks). The experimentally observed statistics of the time series under consideration (euro–dollar for the first half of 2007 and for 2009 and British pound – dollar for 2007) radically differs depending on the choice of the method of time measurement. When measuring time in ticks, the distribution of price increments can be well described by the normal distribution already on a scale of the order of ten ticks. At the same time, when price increments are measured in real physical time, the distribution of increments continues to differ radically from the normal up to scales of the order of minutes and even hours.

To explain this phenomenon, we investigate the statistical properties of elementary increments in price and time. In particular, we show that the distribution of time between ticks for all three time series has a long (1-2 orders of magnitude) power-law tails with exponential cutoff at large times. We obtained approximate expressions for the distributions of waiting times for all three cases. Other statistical characteristics of the time series (the distribution of elementary price changes, pair correlation functions for price increments and for waiting times) demonstrate fairly simple behavior. Thus, it is the anomalously wide distribution of the waiting times that plays the most important role in the deviation of the distribution of increments from the normal. As a result, we discuss the possibility of applying a continuous time random walk (CTRW) model to describe the FOREX time series.

Is a tick an elementary jump in a random walks scheme on the stock market?
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2010, v. 2, no. 2, pp. 219-223

In this paper average times between elementary jumps of stock returns on the Russian market were experimentally studied. Considering the scaling of the probability density function of stock returns on different time intervals it is shown that an elementary jump in the random walks scheme for financial instrument returns is a unit price change (tick) that corresponds to a single deal on the stock market.

Development of and research into a rigid algorithm for analyzing Twitter publications and its influence on the movements of the cryptocurrency market
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 1, pp. 157-170

Social media is a crucial indicator of the position of assets in the financial market. The paper describes the rigid solution for the classification problem to determine the influence of social media activity on financial market movements. Reputable crypto traders influencers are selected. Twitter posts packages are used as data. The methods of text, which are characterized by the numerous use of slang words and abbreviations, and preprocessing consist in lemmatization of Stanza and the use of regular expressions. A word is considered as an element of a vector of a data unit in the course of solving the problem of binary classification. The best markup parameters for processing Binance candles are searched for. Methods of feature selection, which is necessary for a precise description of text data and the subsequent process of establishing dependence, are represented by machine learning and statistical analysis. First, the feature selection is used based on the information criterion. This approach is implemented in a random forest model and is relevant for the task of feature selection for splitting nodes in a decision tree. The second one is based on the rigid compilation of a binary vector during a rough check of the presence or absence of a word in the package and counting the sum of the elements of this vector. Then a decision is made depending on the superiority of this sum over the threshold value that is predetermined previously by analyzing the frequency distribution of mentions of the word. The algorithm used to solve the problem was named benchmark and analyzed as a tool. Similar algorithms are often used in automated trading strategies. In the course of the study, observations of the influence of frequently occurring words, which are used as a basis of dimension 2 and 3 in vectorization, are described as well.

Development of and research on an algorithm for distinguishing features in Twitter publications for a classification problem with known markup
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 1, pp. 171-183

Social media posts play an important role in demonstration of financial market state, and their analysis is a powerful tool for trading. The article describes the result of a study of the impact of social media activities on the movement of the financial market. The top authoritative influencers are selected. Twitter posts are used as data. Such texts usually include slang and abbreviations, so methods for preparing primary text data, including Stanza, regular expressions are presented. Two approaches to the representation of a point in time in the format of text data are considered. The difference of the influence of a single tweet or a whole package consisting of tweets collected over a certain period of time is investigated. A statistical approach in the form of frequency analysis is also considered, metrics defined by the significance of a particular word when identifying the relationship between price changes and Twitter posts are introduced. Frequency analysis involves the study of the occurrence distributions of various words and bigrams in the text for positive, negative or general trends. To build the markup, changes in the market are processed into a binary vector using various parameters, thus setting the task of binary classification. The parameters for Binance candlesticks are sorted out for better description of the movement of the cryptocurrency market, their variability is also explored in this article. Sentiment is studied using Stanford Core NLP. The result of statistical analysis is relevant to feature selection for further binary or multiclass classification tasks. The presented methods of text analysis contribute to the increase of the accuracy of models designed to solve natural language processing problems by selecting words, improving the quality of vectorization. Such algorithms are often used in automated trading strategies to predict the price of an asset, the trend of its movement.

Development of and research on machine learning algorithms for solving the classification problem in Twitter publications
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 1, pp. 185-195

Posts on social networks can both predict the movement of the financial market, and in some cases even determine its direction. The analysis of posts on Twitter contributes to the prediction of cryptocurrency prices. The specificity of the community is represented in a special vocabulary. Thus, slang expressions and abbreviations are used in posts, the presence of which makes it difficult to vectorize text data, as a result of which preprocessing methods such as Stanza lemmatization and the use of regular expressions are considered. This paper describes created simplest machine learning models, which may work despite such problems as lack of data and short prediction timeframe. A word is considered as an element of a binary vector of a data unit in the course of the problem of binary classification solving. Basic words are determined according to the frequency analysis of mentions of a word. The markup is based on Binance candlesticks with variable parameters for a more accurate description of the trend of price changes. The paper introduces metrics that reflect the distribution of words depending on their belonging to a positive or negative classes. To solve the classification problem, we used a dense model with parameters selected by Keras Tuner, logistic regression, a random forest classifier, a naive Bayesian classifier capable of working with a small sample, which is very important for our task, and the k-nearest neighbors method. The constructed models were compared based on the accuracy metric of the predicted labels. During the investigation we recognized that the best approach is to use models which predict price movements of a single coin. Our model deals with posts that mention LUNA project, which no longer exist. This approach to solving binary classification of text data is widely used to predict the price of an asset, the trend of its movement, which is often used in automated trading.

Changepoint detection on financial data using deep learning approach
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 2, pp. 555-575

The purpose of this study is to develop a methodology for change points detection in time series, including financial data. The theoretical basis of the study is based on the pieces of research devoted to the analysis of structural changes in financial markets, description of the proposed algorithms for detecting change points and peculiarities of building classical and deep machine learning models for solving this type of problems. The development of such tools is of interest to investors and other stakeholders, providing them with additional approaches to the effective analysis of financial markets and interpretation of available data.

To address the research objective, a neural network was trained. In the course of the study several ways of training sample formation were considered, differing in the nature of statistical parameters. In order to improve the quality of training and obtain more accurate results, a methodology for feature generation was developed for the formation of features that serve as input data for the neural network. These features, in turn, were derived from an analysis of mathematical expectations and standard deviations of time series data over specific intervals. The potential for combining these features to achieve more stable results is also under investigation.

The results of model experiments were analyzed to compare the effectiveness of the proposed model with other existing changepoint detection algorithms that have gained widespread usage in practical applications. A specially generated dataset, developed using proprietary methods, was utilized as both training and testing data. Furthermore, the model, trained on various features, was tested on daily data from the S&P 500 index to assess its effectiveness in a real financial context.

As the principles of the model’s operation are described, possibilities for its further improvement are considered, including the modernization of the proposed model’s structure, optimization of training data generation, and feature formation. Additionally, the authors are tasked with advancing existing concepts for real-time changepoint detection.

Modeling of behavior of the option. The formulation of the problem
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 3, pp. 759-766

Object of research: The creation of algorithm for mass computations of options‘ price for formation of a riskless portfolio. The method is based on the generalization of the Black–Scholes method. The task is the modeling of behavior of all options and tools for their insurance. This task is characterized by large volume of realtime complex computations that should be executed concurrently The problem of the research: depending on conditions approaches to the solution should be various. There are three methods which can be used with different conditions: the finite difference method, the path-integral approach and methods which work in conditions of trade stop. Distributed computating in these three cases is organized differently and it is necessary to involve various approaches. In addition to complexity the mathematical formulation of the problem in literature is not quite correct. There is no complete description of boundary and initial conditions and also several hypotheses of the model do not correspond to real market. It is necessary to give mathematically correct formulation of the task, and to neutralize a difference between hypotheses of the model and their prototypes in the market. For this purpose it is necessary to expand standard formulation by additional methods and develop methods of realization for each of solution branches.
