Periodic boudary-value problem for Hill's equation in the case of parametric resonance
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2014, v. 6, no. 1, pp. 27-43

Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions of nonlinear nonautonomous periodic problem for Hill’s equation in the case of parametric resonance. A characteristic feature of the task is the need of finding, as desired solution, and the corresponding eigenfunction, which ensures solvability of the periodic problem for Hill’s equation in the case of parametric resonance. To construct solutions of the periodic problem for Hill’s equation and the corresponding eigenfunction in the case of parametric resonance proposed iterative scheme, based on the method of simple iterations with used list-square technics.

Cellular automata methods in mathematical physics classical problems solving on hexagonal grid. Part 1
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 2, pp. 167-186

The paper has methodical character; it is devoted to three classic partial differential equations (Laplace, Diffusion and Wave) solution using simple numerical methods in terms of Cellular Automata. Special attention was payed to the matter conservation law and the offensive effect of excessive hexagonal symmetry.

It has been shown that in contrary to finite-difference approach, in spite of terminological equivalence of CA local transition function to the pattern of computing double layer explicit method, CA approach contains the replacement of matrix technique by iterative ones (for instance, sweep method for three diagonal matrixes). This suggests that discretization of boundary conditions for CA-cells needs more rigid conditions.

The correct local transition function (LTF) of the boundary cells, which is valid at least for the boundaries of the rectangular and circular shapes have been firstly proposed and empirically given for the hexagonal grid and the conservative boundary conditions. The idea of LTF separation into «internal», «boundary» and «postfix» have been proposed. By the example of this problem the value of the Courant-Levy constant was re-evaluated as the CA convergence speed ratio to the solution, which is given at a fixed time, and to the rate of the solution change over time.

Comparative analysis of finite difference method and finite volume method for unsteady natural convection and thermal radiation in a cubical cavity filled with a diathermic medium
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 4, pp. 567-578

Comparative analysis of two numerical methods for simulation of unsteady natural convection and thermal surface radiation within a differentially heated cubical cavity has been carried out. The considered domain of interest had two isothermal opposite vertical faces, while other walls are adiabatic. The walls surfaces were diffuse and gray, namely, their directional spectral emissivity and absorptance do not depend on direction or wavelength but can depend on surface temperature. For the reflected radiation we had two approaches such as: 1) the reflected radiation is diffuse, namely, an intensity of the reflected radiation in any point of the surface is uniform for all directions; 2) the reflected radiation is uniform for each surface of the considered enclosure. Mathematical models formulated both in primitive variables “velocity–pressure” and in transformed variables “vector potential functions – vorticity vector” have been performed numerically using finite volume method and finite difference methods, respectively. It should be noted that radiative heat transfer has been analyzed using the net-radiation method in Poljak approach.

Using primitive variables and finite volume method for the considered boundary-value problem we applied power-law for an approximation of convective terms and central differences for an approximation of diffusive terms. The difference motion and energy equations have been solved using iterative method of alternating directions. Definition of the pressure field associated with velocity field has been performed using SIMPLE procedure.

Using transformed variables and finite difference method for the considered boundary-value problem we applied monotonic Samarsky scheme for convective terms and central differences for diffusive terms. Parabolic equations have been solved using locally one-dimensional Samarsky scheme. Discretization of elliptic equations for vector potential functions has been conducted using symmetric approximation of the second-order derivatives. Obtained difference equation has been solved by successive over-relaxation method. Optimal value of the relaxation parameter has been found on the basis of computational experiments.

As a result we have found the similar distributions of velocity and temperature in the case of these two approaches for different values of Rayleigh number, that illustrates an operability of the used techniques. The efficiency of transformed variables with finite difference method for unsteady problems has been shown.

Direct multiplicative methods for sparse matrices. Newton methods
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 5, pp. 679-703

We consider a numerically stable direct multiplicative algorithm of solving linear equations systems, which takes into account the sparseness of matrices presented in a packed form. The advantage of the algorithm is the ability to minimize the filling of the main rows of multipliers without losing the accuracy of the results. Moreover, changes in the position of the next processed row of the matrix are not made, what allows using static data storage formats. Linear system solving by a direct multiplicative algorithm is, like the solving with $LU$-decomposition, just another scheme of the Gaussian elimination method implementation.

In this paper, this algorithm is the basis for solving the following problems:

Problem 1. Setting the descent direction in Newtonian methods of unconditional optimization by integrating one of the known techniques of constructing an essentially positive definite matrix. This approach allows us to weaken or remove additional specific difficulties caused by the need to solve large equation systems with sparse matrices presented in a packed form.

Problem 2. Construction of a new mathematical formulation of the problem of quadratic programming and a new form of specifying necessary and sufficient optimality conditions. They are quite simple and can be used to construct mathematical programming methods, for example, to find the minimum of a quadratic function on a polyhedral set of constraints, based on solving linear equations systems, which dimension is not higher than the number of variables of the objective function.

Problem 3. Construction of a continuous analogue of the problem of minimizing a real quadratic polynomial in Boolean variables and a new form of defining necessary and sufficient conditions of optimality for the development of methods for solving them in polynomial time. As a result, the original problem is reduced to the problem of finding the minimum distance between the origin and the angular point of a convex polyhedron, which is a perturbation of the $n$-dimensional cube and is described by a system of double linear inequalities with an upper triangular matrix of coefficients with units on the main diagonal. Only two faces are subject to investigation, one of which or both contains the vertices closest to the origin. To calculate them, it is sufficient to solve $4n – 4$ linear equations systems and choose among them all the nearest equidistant vertices in polynomial time. The problem of minimizing a quadratic polynomial is $NP$-hard, since an $NP$-hard problem about a vertex covering for an arbitrary graph comes down to it. It follows therefrom that $P = NP$, which is based on the development beyond the limits of integer optimization methods.

Finite difference schemes for linear advection equation solving under generalized approximation condition
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 2, pp. 181-193

A set of implicit difference schemes on the five-pointwise stensil is under construction. The analysis of properties of difference schemes is carried out in a space of undetermined coefficients. The spaces were introduced for the first time by A. S. Kholodov. Usually for properties of difference schemes investigation the problem of the linear programming was constructed. The coefficient at the main term of a discrepancy was considered as the target function. The optimization task with inequalities type restrictions was considered for construction of the monotonic difference schemes. The limitation of such an approach becomes clear taking into account that approximation of the difference scheme is defined only on the classical (smooth) solutions of partial differential equations.

The functional which minimum will be found put in compliance to the difference scheme. The functional must be the linear on the difference schemes coefficients. It is possible that the functional depends on net function – the solution of a difference task or a grid projection of the differential problem solution. If the initial terms of the functional expansion in a Taylor series on grid parameters are equal to conditions of classical approximation, we will call that the functional will be the generalized condition of approximation. It is shown that such functionals exist. For the simple linear partial differential equation with constant coefficients construction of the functional is possible also for the generalized (non-smooth) solution of a differential problem.

Families of functionals both for smooth solutions of an initial differential problem and for the generalized solution are constructed. The new difference schemes based on the analysis of the functionals by linear programming methods are constructed. At the same time the research of couple of self-dual problems of the linear programming is used. The optimum monotonic difference scheme possessing the first order of approximation on the smooth solution of differential problem is found. The possibility of application of the new schemes for creation of hybrid difference methods of the raised approximation order on smooth solutions is discussed.

The example of numerical implementation of the simplest difference scheme with the generalized approximation is given.

Direct multiplicative methods for sparse matrices. Quadratic programming
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 4, pp. 407-420

A numerically stable direct multiplicative method for solving systems of linear equations that takes into account the sparseness of matrices presented in a packed form is considered. The advantage of the method is the calculation of the Cholesky factors for a positive definite matrix of the system of equations and its solution within the framework of one procedure. And also in the possibility of minimizing the filling of the main rows of multipliers without losing the accuracy of the results, and no changes are made to the position of the next processed row of the matrix, which allows using static data storage formats. The solution of the system of linear equations by a direct multiplicative algorithm is, like the solution with LU-decomposition, just another scheme for implementing the Gaussian elimination method.

The calculation of the Cholesky factors for a positive definite matrix of the system and its solution underlies the construction of a new mathematical formulation of the unconditional problem of quadratic programming and a new form of specifying necessary and sufficient conditions for optimality that are quite simple and are used in this paper to construct a new mathematical formulation for the problem of quadratic programming on a polyhedral set of constraints, which is the problem of finding the minimum distance between the origin ordinate and polyhedral boundary by means of a set of constraints and linear algebra dimensional geometry.

To determine the distance, it is proposed to apply the known exact method based on solving systems of linear equations whose dimension is not higher than the number of variables of the objective function. The distances are determined by the construction of perpendiculars to the faces of a polyhedron of different dimensions. To reduce the number of faces examined, the proposed method involves a special order of sorting the faces. Only the faces containing the vertex closest to the point of the unconditional extremum and visible from this point are subject to investigation. In the case of the presence of several nearest equidistant vertices, we investigate a face containing all these vertices and faces of smaller dimension that have at least two common nearest vertices with the first face.

One method for minimization a convex Lipschitz-continuous function of two variables on a fixed square
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 3, pp. 379-395

In the article we have obtained some estimates of the rate of convergence for the recently proposed by Yu. E.Nesterov method of minimization of a convex Lipschitz-continuous function of two variables on a square with a fixed side. The idea of the method is to divide the square into smaller parts and gradually remove them so that in the remaining sufficiently small part. The method consists in solving auxiliary problems of one-dimensional minimization along the separating segments and does not imply the calculation of the exact value of the gradient of the objective functional. The main result of the paper is proved in the class of smooth convex functions having a Lipschitz-continuous gradient. Moreover, it is noted that the property of Lipschitzcontinuity for gradient is sufficient to require not on the whole square, but only on some segments. It is shown that the method can work in the presence of errors in solving auxiliary one-dimensional problems, as well as in calculating the direction of gradients. Also we describe the situation when it is possible to neglect or reduce the time spent on solving auxiliary one-dimensional problems. For some examples, experiments have demonstrated that the method can work effectively on some classes of non-smooth functions. In this case, an example of a simple non-smooth function is constructed, for which, if the subgradient is chosen incorrectly, even if the auxiliary one-dimensional problem is exactly solved, the convergence property of the method may not hold. Experiments have shown that the method under consideration can achieve the desired accuracy of solving the problem in less time than the other methods (gradient descent and ellipsoid method) considered. Partially, it is noted that with an increase in the accuracy of the desired solution, the operating time for the Yu. E. Nesterov’s method can grow slower than the time of the ellipsoid method.

  8. We present the iterative algorithm that solves numerically both Urysohn type Fredholm and Volterra nonlinear one-dimensional nonsingular integral equations of the second kind to a specified, modest user-defined accuracy. The algorithm is based on descending recursive sequence of quadratures. Convergence of numerical scheme is guaranteed by fixed-point theorems. Picard’s method of integrating successive approximations is of great importance for the existence theory of integral equations but surprisingly very little appears on numerical algorithms for its direct implementation in the literature. We show that successive approximations method can be readily employed in numerical solution of integral equations. By that the quadrature algorithm is thoroughly designed. It is based on the explicit form of fifth-order embedded Runge–Kutta rule with adaptive step-size self-control. Since local error estimates may be cheaply obtained, continuous monitoring of the quadrature makes it possible to create very accurate automatic numerical schemes and to reduce considerably the main drawback of Picard iterations namely the extremely large amount of computations with increasing recursion depth. Our algorithm is organized so that as compared to most approaches the nonlinearity of integral equations does not induce any additional computational difficulties, it is very simple to apply and to make a program realization. Our algorithm exhibits some features of universality. First, it should be stressed that the method is as easy to apply to nonlinear as to linear equations of both Fredholm and Volterra kind. Second, the algorithm is equipped by stopping rules by which the calculations may to considerable extent be controlled automatically. A compact C++-code of described algorithm is presented. Our program realization is self-consistent: it demands no preliminary calculations, no external libraries and no additional memory is needed. Numerical examples are provided to show applicability, efficiency, robustness and accuracy of our approach.

Modeling the structure of a complex system based on estimation of the measure of interaction of subsystems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 4, pp. 707-719

The using of determining the measure of interaction between channels when choosing the configuration structure of a control system for complex dynamic objects is considered in the work. The main methods for determining the measure of interaction between subsystems of complex control systems based on the methods RGA (Relative Gain Array), Dynamic RGA, HIIA (Hankel Interaction Index Array), PM (Participation matrix) are presented. When choosing a control configuration, simple configurations are preferable, as they are simple in design, maintenance and more resistant to failures. However, complex configurations provide higher performance control systems. Processes in large dynamic objects are characterized by a high degree of interaction between process variables. For the design of the control structure interaction measures are used, namely, the selection of the control structure and the decision on the configuration of the controller. The choice of control structure is to determine which dynamic connections should be used to design the controller. When a structure is selected, connections can be used to configure the controller. For large systems, it is proposed to pre-group the components of the vectors of input and output signals of the actuators and sensitive elements into sets in which the number of variables decreases significantly in order to select a control structure. A quantitative estimation of the decentralization of the control system based on minimizing the sum of the off-diagonal elements of the PM matrix is given. An example of estimation the measure of interaction between components of strong coupled subsystems and the measure of interaction between components of weak coupled subsystems is given. A quantitative estimation is given of neglecting the interaction of components of weak coupled subsystems. The construction of a weighted graph for visualizing the interaction of the subsystems of a complex system is considered. A method for the formation of the controllability gramian on the vector of output signals that is invariant to state vector transformations is proposed in the paper. An example of the decomposition of the stabilization system of the components of the flying vehicle angular velocity vector is given. The estimation of measures of the mutual influence of processes in the channels of control systems makes it possible to increase the reliability of the systems when accounting for the use of analytical redundancy of information from various devices, which reduces the mass and energy consumption. Methods for assessing measures of the interaction of processes in subsystems of control systems can be used in the design of complex systems, for example, motion control systems, orientation and stabilization systems of vehicles.

Simulation of multi-temperature flows turbulent mixing in a T-junctions by the LES approach in FlowVision software package
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 4, pp. 827-843

The paper presents the results of numerical simulation of different-temperature water flows turbulent mixing in a T-junctions in the FlowVision software package. The article describes in detail an experimental stand specially designed to obtain boundary conditions that are simple for most computational fluid dynamics software systems. Values of timeaveraged temperatures and velocities in the control sensors and planes were obtained according to the test results. The article presents the system of partial differential equations used in the calculation describing the process of heat and mass transfer in a liquid using the Smagorinsky turbulence model. Boundary conditions are specified that allow setting the random velocity pulsations at the entrance to the computational domain. Distributions of time-averaged water velocity and temperature in control sections and sensors are obtained. The simulation is performed on various computational grids, for which the axes of the global coordinate system coincide with the directions of hot and cold water flows. The possibility for FlowVision PC to construct a computational grid in the simulation process based on changes in flow parameters is shown. The influence of such an algorithm for constructing a computational grid on the results of calculations is estimated. The results of calculations on a diagonal grid using a beveled scheme are given (the direction of the coordinate lines does not coincide with the direction of the tee pipes). The high efficiency of the beveled scheme is shown when modeling flows whose general direction does not coincide with the faces of the calculated cells. A comparison of simulation results on various computational grids is carried out. The numerical results obtained in the FlowVision PC are compared with experimental data and calculations performed using other computing programs. The results of modeling turbulent mixing of water flow of different temperatures in the FlowVision PC are closer to experimental data in comparison with calculations in CFX ANSYS. It is shown that the application of the LES turbulence model on relatively small computational grids in the FlowVision PC allows obtaining results with an error within 5%.
