Simulation of uneven combustion and stress-strain state of powder elements of a tubular charge during firing
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 6, pp. 1281-1300The paper presents the physical and mathematical formulation of the problems of internal ballistics of an artillery shot for a charge consisting of a set of powder tubes and their stress-strain state. Combustion and movement of a bundle of powder tubes along the barrel channel is modeled by an equivalent tubular charge of all-round combustion. It is assumed that the equivalent tube moves along the axis of the bore. The speed of movement of an equivalent tubular charge and its current position are determined from Newton’s second law. When calculating the flow parameters, two-dimensional axisymmetric equations of gas dynamics were used, for the solution of which an axisymmetric orthogonalized difference grid is constructed, which adapts to the flow conditions. The control volume method is used to numerically solve the system of gas-dynamic equations. The gas parameters at the boundaries of the control volumes are determined using a self-similar solution to the Godunov’s problem of the decay of an arbitrary discontinuity. The stress-strain state is modeled for a separate burning powder tube located in the field of gas-dynamic parameters. The calculation of the gas-dynamic parameters of the shot is carried out without taking into account the deformed state of the powder elements. The behavior of powder elements during firing is considered under these conditions. The finite element method with the division of the calculation area into triangular elements is used to solve the problem of elasticity. In the process of powder tube burnout, the computational grid on each time layer of the dynamic problem is completely updated due to a change in the boundaries of the powder element due to combustion. The paper shows the time dependences of the parameters of the internal ballistics process and the stress-strain state of powder elements, as well as the distribution of the main parameters of the flow of combustion products at different points in time. It has been established that the tubular powder elements during the shot experience significant deformations, which must be taken into account when solving the basic problem of internal ballistics. The data obtained give an idea of the level of equivalent stresses acting at various points of the powder element. The results obtained indicate the relevance of the conjugate formulation of the problem of gas dynamics and the stress-strain state for charges consisting of tubular powders, since this allows a new approach to the design of tubular charges and opens up the possibility of determining the parameters on which the physics of the combustion process of gunpowder significantly depends, therefore, and the dynamics of the shot process.

Numerical solution of quasi-hydrodynamic equations on non-structured triangle mesh
Computer Research and Modeling, 2009, v. 1, no. 2, pp. 181-188Views (last year): 1.A new flow modeling method on unstructured grid was proposed. As a basis system this method used quasi-hydro-dynamic equations. The finite volume method vas used for solving these equations. The Delaunay triangulation was used for constructing mesh. This proposed method was tested in modeling of incompressible flow through a channel with complex profile. The acquired results showed that the proposed method could be used in flow modeling in unstructured grid.

Parallel embedded discrete fracture method for flows in fractured porous media
Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 4, pp. 735-745In this work, parallel method for solving single-phase flow problems in a fractured porous media is considered. Method is based on the representation of fractures by surfaces embedded into the computational mesh, and known as the embedded discrete fracture model. Porous medium and fractures are represented as two independent continua within the model framework. A distinctive feature of the considered approach is that fractures do not modify the computational grid, while an additional degree of freedom is introduced for each cell intersected by the fracture. Discretization of fluxes between fractures and porous medium continua uses the pre-calculated intersection characteristics of fracture surfaces with a three-dimensional computational grid. The discretization of fluxes inside a porous medium does not depend on flows between continua. This allows the model to be integrated into existing multiphase flow simulators in porous reservoirs, while accurately describing flow behaviour near fractures.
Previously, the author proposed monotonic modifications of the model using nonlinear finite-volume schemes for the discretization of the fluxes inside the porous medium: a monotonic two-point scheme or a compact multi-point scheme with a discrete maximum principle. It was proved that the discrete solution of the obtained nonlinear problem preserves non-negativity or satisfies the discrete maximum principle, depending on the choice of the discretization scheme.
This work is a continuation of previous studies. The previously proposed monotonic modification of the model was parallelized using the INMOST open-source software platform for parallel numerical modelling. We used such features of the INMOST as a balanced grid distribution among processors, scalable methods for solving sparse distributed systems of linear equations, and others. Parallel efficiency was demonstrated experimentally.

Modeling the response of polycrystalline ferroelectrics to high-intensity electric and mechanical fields
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 1, pp. 93-113A mathematical model describing the irreversible processes of polarization and deformation of polycrystalline ferroelectrics in external electric and mechanical fields of high intensity is presented, as a result of which the internal structure changes and the properties of the material change. Irreversible phenomena are modeled in a three-dimensional setting for the case of simultaneous action of an electric field and mechanical stresses. The object of the research is a representative volume in which the residual phenomena in the form of the induced and irreversible parts of the polarization vector and the strain tensor are investigated. The main task of modeling is to construct constitutive relations connecting the polarization vector and strain tensor, on the one hand, and the electric field vector and mechanical stress tensor, on the other hand. A general case is considered when the direction of the electric field may not coincide with any of the main directions of the tensor of mechanical stresses. For reversible components, the constitutive relations are constructed in the form of linear tensor equations, in which the modules of elasticity and dielectric permeability depend on the residual strain, and the piezoelectric modules depend on the residual polarization. The constitutive relations for irreversible parts are constructed in several stages. First, an auxiliary model was constructed for the ideal or unhysteretic case, when all vectors of spontaneous polarization can rotate in the fields of external forces without mutual influence on each other. A numerical method is proposed for calculating the resulting values of the maximum possible polarization and deformation values of an ideal case in the form of surface integrals over the unit sphere with the distribution density obtained from the statistical Boltzmann law. After that the estimates of the energy costs required for breaking down the mechanisms holding the domain walls are made, and the work of external fields in real and ideal cases is calculated. On the basis of this, the energy balance was derived and the constitutive relations for irreversible components in the form of equations in differentials were obtained. A scheme for the numerical solution of these equations has been developed to determine the current values of the irreversible required characteristics in the given electrical and mechanical fields. For cyclic loads, dielectric, deformation and piezoelectric hysteresis curves are plotted.
The developed model can be implanted into a finite element complex for calculating inhomogeneous residual polarization and deformation fields with subsequent determination of the physical modules of inhomogeneously polarized ceramics as a locally anisotropic body.

Mathematical modeling of thermophysical processes in the wall of the Baker cyst, when intra-cystic fluid is heated by laser radiation 1.47 μm in length
Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 1, pp. 103-112Views (last year): 21. Citations: 2 (RSCI).The work is devoted to the study of the theoretical value of destructive influence on normal tissues of an organism by infrared radiation that goes beyond the treated pathological focus. This situation is possible if the direct laser radiation on the tissues is extremely long-acting. The solution to this problem can be the uniform distribution of heat inside the volume through indirect heating of the liquid, which contributes to minimal damage to the perifocal structures. A non-stationary thermophysical model of the process of heat propagation in biological tissues is presented, allowing to carry out studies of energy transfer from internal liquid contents of Baker's cyst heated by infrared laser radiation of a given specific power through a certain thickness of its wall to surrounding biological tissues. Calculation of the spacetime temperature distribution in the cyst wall and surrounding fat tissue is carried out by the finite-difference method. The time of effective exposure to temperature on the entire thickness of the cyst wall was estimated to be 55 ° C on its outer surface. The safety procedure ensures the exposure duration of this value is not more than 10 seconds.
As a result of the calculations carried out, it is established that there are several operating modes of a surgical laser that meet all the safety requirements with a simultaneous effective procedure. Local one-sided hyperthermia of the synovial membrane and subsequent coagulation of the entire wall thickness due to heat transfer contributes to the elimination of the cavity neoplasm of the popliteal region. With a thickness of 3 mm, the heating mode is satisfactory, under which the exposure time lasts about 200 seconds, and the specific power of the laser radiation in the internal medium of the liquid contents of the Baker cyst is approximately 1.

Numerical simulation of the process of activation of the safety valve
Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 4, pp. 495-509Views (last year): 34. Citations: 1 (RSCI).The conjugate problem of disk movement into gas-filled volume of the spring-type safety valve is solved. The questions of determining the physically correct value of the disk initial lift are considered. The review of existing approaches and methods for solving of such type problems is conducted. The formulation of the problem about the valve actuation when the vessel pressure rises and the mathematical model of the actuation processes are given. A special attention to the binding of physical subtasks is paid. Used methods, numerical schemes and algorithms are described. The mathematical modeling is performed on basе the fundamental system of differential equations for viscous gas movement with the equation for displacement of disk valve. The solution of this problem in the axe symmetric statement is carried out numerically using the finite volume method. The results obtained by the viscous and inviscid models are compared. In an inviscid formulation this problem is solved using the Godunov scheme, and in a viscous formulation is solved using the Kurganov – Tadmor method. The dependence of the disk displacement on time was obtained and compared with the experimental data. The pressure distribution on the disk surface, velocity profiles in the cross sections of the gap for different disk heights are given. It is shown that a value of initial drive lift it does not affect on the gas flow and valve movement part dynamic. It can significantly reduce the calculation time of the full cycle of valve work. Immediate isotahs for various elevations of the disk are presented. The comparison of jet flow over critical section is given. The data carried out by two numerical experiments are well correlated with each other. So, the inviscid model can be applied to the numerical modeling of the safety valve dynamic.

Numerical study of intense shock waves in dusty media with a homogeneous and two-component carrier phase
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 1, pp. 141-154The article is devoted to the numerical study of shock-wave flows in inhomogeneous media–gas mixtures. In this work, a two-speed two-temperature model is used, in which the dispersed component of the mixture has its own speed and temperature. To describe the change in the concentration of the dispersed component, the equation of conservation of “average density” is solved. This study took into account interphase thermal interaction and interphase pulse exchange. The mathematical model allows the carrier component of the mixture to be described as a viscous, compressible and heat-conducting medium. The system of equations was solved using the explicit Mac-Cormack second-order finite-difference method. To obtain a monotone numerical solution, a nonlinear correction scheme was applied to the grid function. In the problem of shock-wave flow, the Dirichlet boundary conditions were specified for the velocity components, and the Neumann boundary conditions were specified for the other unknown functions. In numerical calculations, in order to reveal the dependence of the dynamics of the entire mixture on the properties of the solid component, various parameters of the dispersed phase were considered — the volume content as well as the linear size of the dispersed inclusions. The goal of the research was to determine how the properties of solid inclusions affect the parameters of the dynamics of the carrier medium — gas. The motion of an inhomogeneous medium in a shock duct divided into two parts was studied, the gas pressure in one of the channel compartments is more important than in the other. The article simulated the movement of a direct shock wave from a high-pressure chamber to a low–pressure chamber filled with a dusty medium and the subsequent reflection of a shock wave from a solid surface. An analysis of numerical calculations showed that a decrease in the linear particle size of the gas suspension and an increase in the physical density of the material from which the particles are composed leads to the formation of a more intense reflected shock wave with a higher temperature and gas density, as well as a lower speed of movement of the reflected disturbance reflected wave.

Analysing the impact of migration on background social strain using a continuous social stratification model
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 3, pp. 661-673The background social strain of a society can be quantitatively estimated using various statistical indicators. Mathematical models, allowing to forecast the dynamics of social strain, are successful in describing various social processes. If the number of interacting groups is small, the dynamics of the corresponding indicators can be modelled with a system of ordinary differential equations. The increase in the number of interacting components leads to the growth of complexity, which makes the analysis of such models a challenging task. A continuous social stratification model can be considered as a result of the transition from a discrete number of interacting social groups to their continuous distribution in some finite interval. In such a model, social strain naturally spreads locally between neighbouring groups, while in reality, the social elite influences the whole society via news media, and the Internet allows non-local interaction between social groups. These factors, however, can be taken into account to some extent using the term of the model, describing negative external influence on the society. In this paper, we develop a continuous social stratification model, describing the dynamics of two societies connected through migration. We assume that people migrate from the social group of donor society with the highest strain level to poorer social layers of the acceptor society, transferring the social strain at the same time. We assume that all model parameters are constants, which is a realistic assumption for small societies only. By using the finite volume method, we construct the spatial discretization for the problem, capable of reproducing finite propagation speed of social strain. We verify the discretization by comparing the results of numerical simulations with the exact solutions of the auxiliary non-linear diffusion equation. We perform the numerical analysis of the proposed model for different values of model parameters, study the impact of migration intensity on the stability of acceptor society, and find the destabilization conditions. The results, obtained in this work, can be used in further analysis of the model in the more realistic case of inhomogeneous coefficients.

Method for prediction of aerodynamic characteristics of helicopter rotors based on edge-based schemes in code NOISEtte
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 5, pp. 1097-1122The paper gives a detailed description of the developed methods for simulating the turbulent flow around a helicopter rotor and calculating its aerodynamic characteristics. The system of Reynolds-averaged Navier – Stokes equations for a viscous compressible gas closed by the Spalart –Allmaras turbulence model is used as the basic mathematical model. The model is formulated in a non-inertial rotating coordinate system associated with a rotor. To set the boundary conditions on the surface of the rotor, wall functions are used.
The numerical solution of the resulting system of differential equations is carried out on mixed-element unstructured grids including prismatic layers near the surface of a streamlined body. The numerical method is based on the original vertex-centered finite-volume EBR schemes. A feature of these schemes is their higher accuracy which is achieved through the use of edge-based reconstruction of variables on extended quasi-onedimensional stencils, and a moderate computational cost which allows for serial computations. The methods of Roe and Lax – Friedrichs are used as approximate Riemann solvers. The Roe method is corrected in the case of low Mach flows. When dealing with discontinuities or solutions with large gradients, a quasi-one-dimensional WENO scheme or local switching to a quasi-one-dimensional TVD-type reconstruction is used. The time integration is carried out according to the implicit three-layer second-order scheme with Newton linearization of the system of difference equations. To solve the system of linear equations, the stabilized conjugate gradient method is used.
The numerical methods are implemented as a part of the in-house code NOISEtte according to the two-level MPI–OpenMP parallel model, which allows high-performance computations on meshes consisting of hundreds of millions of nodes, while involving hundreds of thousands of CPU cores of modern supercomputers.
Based on the results of numerical simulation, the aerodynamic characteristics of the helicopter rotor are calculated, namely, trust, torque and their dimensionless coefficients.
Validation of the developed technique is carried out by simulating the turbulent flow around the Caradonna – Tung two-blade rotor and the KNRTU-KAI four-blade model rotor in hover mode mode, tail rotor in duct, and rigid main rotor in oblique flow. The numerical results are compared with the available experimental data.
