Usage of boundary layer grids in numerical simulations of viscous phenomena in of ship hydrodynamics problems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 4, pp. 995-1008

Numerical simulation of hull flow, marine propellers and other basic problems of ship hydrodynamics using Cartesian adaptive locally-refined grids is advantageous with respect to numerical setup and makes an express analysis very convenient. However, when more accurate viscous phenomena are needed, they condition some problems including a sharp increase of cell number due to high levels of main grid adaptation needed to resolve boundary layers and time step decrease in simulations with a free surface due to decrease of transit time in adapted cells. To avoid those disadvantages, additional boundary layer grids are suggested for resolution of boundary layers. The boundary layer grids are one-dimensional adaptations of main grid layers nearest to a wall, which are built along a normal direction. The boundary layer grids are additional (or chimerical), their volumes are not subtracted from main grid volumes. Governing equations of flow are integrated in both grids simultaneously, and the solutions are merged according to a special algorithm. In simulations of ship hull flow boundary layer grids are able to provide sufficient conditions for low-Reynolds turbulence models and significantly improve flow structure in continues boundary layers along smooth surfaces. When there are flow separations or other complex phenomena on a hull surface, it can be subdivided into regions, and the boundary layer grids should be applied to the regions with simple flow only. This still provides a drastic decrease of computational efforts. In simulations of marine propellers, the boundary layer grids are able to provide refuse of wall functions on blade surfaces, what leads to significantly more accurate hydrodynamic forces. Altering number and configuration of boundary grid layers, it is possible to vary a boundary layer resolution without change of a main grid. This makes the boundary layer grids a suitable tool to investigate scale effects in both problems considered.

Software complex for numerical modeling of multibody system dynamics
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 1, pp. 161-174

This work deals with numerical modeling of motion of the multibody systems consisting of rigid bodies with arbitrary masses and inertial properties. We consider both planar and spatial systems which may contain kinematic loops.

The numerical modeling is fully automatic and its computational algorithm contains three principal steps. On step one a graph of the considered mechanical system is formed from the userinput data. This graph represents the hierarchical structure of the mechanical system. On step two the differential-algebraic equations of motion of the system are derived using the so-called Joint Coordinate Method. This method allows to minimize the redundancy and lower the number of the equations of motion and thus optimize the calculations. On step three the equations of motion are integrated numerically and the resulting laws of motion are presented via user interface or files.

The aforementioned algorithm is implemented in the software complex that contains a computer algebra system, a graph library, a mechanical solver, a library of numerical methods and a user interface.

Numerical simulation of sportsman's external flow
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 2, pp. 331-344

Numerical simulation of moving sportsman external flow is presented. The unique method is developed for obtaining integral aerodynamic characteristics, which were the function of the flow regime (i.e. angle of attack, flow speed) and body position. Individual anthropometric characteristics and moving boundaries of sportsman (or sports equipment) during the race are taken into consideration.

Numerical simulation is realized using FlowVision CFD. The software is based on the finite volume method, high-performance numerical methods and reliable mathematical models of physical processes. A Cartesian computational grid is used by FlowVision, the grid generation is a completely automated process. Local grid adaptation is used for solving high-pressure gradient and object complex shape. Flow simulation process performed by solutions systems of equations describing movement of fluid and/or gas in the computational domain, including: mass, moment and energy conservation equations; state equations; turbulence model equations. FlowVision permits flow simulation near moving bodies by means of computational domain transformation according to the athlete shape changes in the motion. Ski jumper aerodynamic characteristics are studied during all phases: take-off performance in motion, in-run and flight. Projected investigation defined simulation method, which includes: inverted statement of sportsman external flow development (velocity of the motion is equal to air flow velocity, object is immobile); changes boundary of the body technology defining; multiple calculations with the national team member data projecting. The research results are identification of the main factors affected to jumping performance: aerodynamic forces, rotating moments etc. Developed method was tested with active sportsmen. Ski jumpers used this method during preparations for Sochi Olympic Games 2014. A comparison of the predicted characteristics and experimental data shows a good agreement. Method versatility is underlined by performing swimmer and skater flow simulation. Designed technology is applicable for sorts of natural and technical objects.

Implicit algorithm for solving equations of motion of incompressible fluid
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 4, pp. 1009-1023

A large number of methods have been developed to solve the Navier – Stokes equations in the case of incompressible flows, the most popular of which are methods with velocity correction by the SIMPLE algorithm and its analogue — the method of splitting by physical variables. These methods, developed more than 40 years ago, were used to solve rather simple problems — simulating both stationary flows and non-stationary flows, in which the boundaries of the calculation domain were stationary. At present, the problems of computational fluid dynamics have become significantly more complicated. CFD problems are involving the motion of bodies in the computational domain, the motion of contact boundaries, cavitation and tasks with dynamic local adaptation of the computational mesh. In this case the computational mesh changes resulting in violation of the velocity divergence condition on it. Since divergent velocities are used not only for Navier – Stokes equations, but also for all other equations of the mathematical model of fluid motion — turbulence, mass transfer and energy conservation models, violation of this condition leads to numerical errors and, often, to undivergence of the computational algorithm.

This article presents an implicit method of splitting by physical variables that uses divergent velocities from a given time step to solve the incompressible Navier – Stokes equations. The method is developed to simulate flows in the case of movable and contact boundaries treated in the Euler paradigm. The method allows to perform computations with the integration step exceeding the explicit time step by orders of magnitude (Courant – Friedrichs – Levy number $CFL\gg1$). This article presents a variant of the method for incompressible flows. A variant of the method that allows to calculate the motion of liquid and gas at any Mach numbers will be published shortly. The method for fully compressible flows is implemented in the software package FlowVision.

Numerical simulating classical fluid flow around circular cylinder at low Reynolds numbers ($50 < Re < 140$), when laminar flow is unsteady and the Karman vortex street is formed, are presented in the article. Good agreement of calculations with the experimental data published in the classical works of Van Dyke and Taneda is demonstrated.

Pattern formation of a three-species predator – prey model with prey-taxis and omnivorous predator
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 6, pp. 1617-1634

The spatiotemporal dynamics of a three-component model for food web is considered. The model describes the interactions among resource, prey and predator that consumes both species. In a previous work, the author analyzed the model without taking into account spatial heterogeneity. This study continues the model study of the community considering the diffusion of individuals, as well as directed movements of the predator. It is assumed that the predator responds to the spatial change in the resource and prey density by occupying areas where species density is higher or avoiding them. Directed predator movement is described by the advection term, where velocity is proportional to the gradient of resource and prey density. The system is considered on a one-dimensional domain with zero-flux conditions as boundary ones. The spatiotemporal dynamics produced by model is determined by the system stability in the vicinity of stationary homogeneous state with respect to small inhomogeneous perturbations. The paper analyzes the possibility of wave instability leading to the emergence of autowaves and Turing instability, as a result of which stationary patterns are formed. Sufficient conditions for the existence of both types of instability are obtained. The influence of local kinetic parameters on the spatial structure formation was analyzed. It was shown that only Turing instability is possible when taxis on the resource is positive, but with a negative taxis, both types of instability are possible. The numerical solution of the system was found by using method of lines (MOL) with the numerical integration of ODE system by means of splitting techniques. The spatiotemporal dynamics of the system is presented in several variants, realizing one of the instability types. In the case of a positive taxis on the prey, both autowave and stationary structures are formed in smaller regions, with an increase in the region size, Turing structures are not formed. For negative taxis on the prey, stationary patterns is observed in both regions, while periodic structures appear only in larger areas.

Raising convergence order of grid-characteristic schemes for 2D linear elasticity problems using operator splitting
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 4, pp. 899-910

The grid-characteristic method is successfully used for solving hyperbolic systems of partial differential equations (for example, transport / acoustic / elastic equations). It allows to construct correctly algorithms on contact boundaries and boundaries of the integration domain, to a certain extent to take into account the physics of the problem (propagation of discontinuities along characteristic curves), and has the property of monotonicity, which is important for considered problems. In the cases of two-dimensional and three-dimensional problems the method makes use of a coordinate splitting technique, which enables us to solve the original equations by solving several one-dimensional ones consecutively. It is common to use up to 3-rd order one-dimensional schemes with simple splitting techniques which do not allow for the convergence order to be higher than two (with respect to time). Significant achievements in the operator splitting theory were done, the existence of higher-order schemes was proved. Its peculiarity is the need to perform a step in the opposite direction in time, which gives rise to difficulties, for example, for parabolic problems.

In this work coordinate splitting of the 3-rd and 4-th order were used for the two-dimensional hyperbolic problem of the linear elasticity. This made it possible to increase the final convergence order of the computational algorithm. The paper empirically estimates the convergence in L1 and L∞ norms using analytical solutions of the system with the sufficient degree of smoothness. To obtain objective results, we considered the cases of longitudinal and transverse plane waves propagating both along the diagonal of the computational cell and not along it. Numerical experiments demonstrated the improved accuracy and convergence order of constructed schemes. These improvements are achieved with the cost of three- or fourfold increase of the computational time (for the 3-rd and 4-th order respectively) and no additional memory requirements. The proposed improvement of the computational algorithm preserves the simplicity of its parallel implementation based on the spatial decomposition of the computational grid.

Connection between discrete financial models and continuous models with Wiener and Poisson processes
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 3, pp. 781-795

The paper is devoted to the study of relationships between discrete and continuous models financial processes and their probabilistic characteristics. First, a connection is established between the price processes of stocks, hedging portfolio and options in the models conditioned by binomial perturbations and their limit perturbations of the Brownian motion type. Secondly, analogues in the coefficients of stochastic equations with various random processes, continuous and jumpwise, and in the coefficients corresponding deterministic equations for their probabilistic characteristics. Statement of the results on the connections and finding analogies, obtained in this paper, led to the need for an adequate presentation of preliminary information and results from financial mathematics, as well as descriptions of related objects of stochastic analysis. In this paper, partially new and known results are presented in an accessible form for those who are not specialists in financial mathematics and stochastic analysis, and for whom these results are important from the point of view of applications. Specifically, the following sections are presented.

    • In one- and n-period binomial models, it is proposed a unified approach to determining on the probability space a risk-neutral measure with which the discounted option price becomes a martingale. The resulting martingale formula for the option price is suitable for numerical simulation. In the following sections, the risk-neutral measures approach is applied to study financial processes in continuous-time models.

    • In continuous time, models of the price of shares, hedging portfolios and options are considered in the form of stochastic equations with the Ito integral over Brownian motion and over a compensated Poisson process. The study of the properties of these processes in this section is based on one of the central objects of stochastic analysis — the Ito formula. Special attention is given to the methods of its application.

    • The famous Black – Scholes formula is presented, which gives a solution to the partial differential equation for the function $v(t, x)$, which, when $x = S (t)$ is substituted, where $S(t)$ is the stock price at the moment time $t$, gives the price of the option in the model with continuous perturbation by Brownian motion.

    • The analogue of the Black – Scholes formula for the case of the model with a jump-like perturbation by the Poisson process is suggested. The derivation of this formula is based on the technique of risk-neutral measures and the independence lemma.

Nowadays cloud computing is an important topic in the field of information technology and computer system. Several companies and educational institutes have deployed cloud infrastructures to overcome their problems such as easy data access, software updates with minimal cost, large or unlimited storage, efficient cost factor, backup storage and disaster recovery, and some other benefits if compare with the traditional network infrastructures. The paper present the study of cloud computing technology for marine environmental data and processing. Cloud computing of marine environment information is proposed for the integration and sharing of marine information resources. It is highly desirable to perform empirical requiring numerous interactions with web servers and transfers of very large archival data files without affecting operational information system infrastructure. In this paper, we consider the cloud computing for virtual testbed to minimize the cost. That is related to real time infrastructure.
