Methodical questions of numerical simulation of external flows on locally-adaptive grids using wall functions
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 6, pp. 1269-1290The work is dedicated to investigation of possibility to increase the efficiency of solving external aerodynamic problems. Methodical questions of using locally-adaptive grids and wall functions for numerical simulation of turbulent flows past flying vehicles are studied. Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations are integrated. The equations are closed by standard $k–\varepsilon$ turbulence model. Subsonic turbulent flow of perfect compressible viscous gas past airfoil RAE 2822 is considered. Calculations are performed in CFD software FlowVision. The efficiency of using the technology of smoothing diffusion fluxes and the Bradshaw formula for turbulent viscosity is analyzed. These techniques are regarded as means of increasing the accuracy of solving aerodynamic problems on locally-adaptive grids. The obtained results show that using the technology of smoothing diffusion fluxes essentially decreases the discrepancy between computed and experimental values of the drag coefficient. In addition, the distribution of the skin friction coefficient over the curvilinear surface of the airfoil becomes more regular. These results indicate that the given technology is an effective way to increase the accuracy of calculations on locally-adaptive grids. The Bradshaw formula for the dynamic coefficient of turbulent viscosity is traditionally used in the SST $k–\omega$ turbulence model. The possibility to implement it in the standard $k–\varepsilon$ turbulence model is investigated in the present article. The calculations show that this formula provides good agreement of integral aerodynamic characteristics and the distribution of the pressure coefficient over the airfoil surface with experimental data. Besides that, it essentially augments the accuracy of simulation of the flow in the boundary layer and in the wake. On the other hand, using the Bradshaw formula in the simulation of the air flow past airfoil RAE 2822 leads to under-prediction of the skin friction coefficient. For this reason, the conclusion is made that practical use of the Bradshaw formula requires its preliminary validation and calibration on reliable experimental data available for the considered flows. The results of the work as a whole show that using the technologies discussed in numerical solution of external aerodynamic problems on locally-adaptive grids together with wall functions provides the computational accuracy acceptable for quick assessment of the aerodynamic characteristics of a flying vehicle. So, one can deduce that the FlowVision software is an effective tool for preliminary design studies, for conceptual design, and for aerodynamic shape optimization.

Analysis of the basic equation of the physical and statistical approach within reliability theory of technical systems
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 4, pp. 721-735Verification of the physical-statistical approach within reliability theory for the simplest cases was carried out, which showed its validity. An analytical solution of the one-dimensional basic equation of the physicalstatistical approach is presented under the assumption of a stationary degradation rate. From a mathematical point of view this equation is the well-known continuity equation, where the role of density is played by the density distribution function of goods in its characteristics phase space, and the role of fluid velocity is played by intensity (rate) degradation processes. The latter connects the general formalism with the specifics of degradation mechanisms. The cases of coordinate constant, linear and quadratic degradation rates are analyzed using the characteristics method. In the first two cases, the results correspond to physical intuition. At a constant rate of degradation, the shape of the initial distribution is preserved, and the distribution itself moves equably from the zero. At a linear rate of degradation, the distribution either narrows down to a narrow peak (in the singular limit), or expands, with the maximum shifting to the periphery at an exponentially increasing rate. The distribution form is also saved up to the parameters. For the initial normal distribution, the coordinates of the largest value of the distribution maximum for its return motion are obtained analytically.
In the quadratic case, the formal solution demonstrates counterintuitive behavior. It consists in the fact that the solution is uniquely defined only on a part of an infinite half-plane, vanishes along with all derivatives on the boundary, and is ambiguous when crossing the boundary. If you continue it to another area in accordance with the analytical solution, it has a two-humped appearance, retains the amount of substance and, which is devoid of physical meaning, periodically over time. If you continue it with zero, then the conservativeness property is violated. The anomaly of the quadratic case is explained, though not strictly, by the analogy of the motion of a material point with an acceleration proportional to the square of velocity. Here we are dealing with a mathematical curiosity. Numerical calculations are given for all cases. Additionally, the entropy of the probability distribution and the reliability function are calculated, and their correlation is traced.

Modeling the influence of repetitively pulsed heating on the formation of perturbations at the boundary of a transverse jet in a supersonic crossflow
Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 4, pp. 845-860When a supersonic air flow interacts with a transverse secondary jet injected into this flow through an orifice on a flat wall, a special flow structure is formed. This flow takes place during fuel injection into combustion chambers of supersonic aircraft engines; therefore, in recent years, various approaches to intensifying gas mixing in this type of flow have been proposed and studied in several countries. The approach proposed in this work implies using spark discharges for pulsed heating of the gas and generating the instabilities in the shear layer at the boundary of the secondary jet. Using simulation in the software package FlowVision 3.13, the characteristics of this flow were obtained in the absence and presence of pulsed-periodic local heat release on the wall on the windward side of the injector opening. A comparison was made of local characteristics at different periodicities of pulsed heating (corresponding to the values of the Strouhal number 0.25 and 0.31). It is shown that pulsed heating can stimulate the formation of perturbations in the shear layer at the jet boundary. For the case of the absence of heating and for two modes of pulsed heating, the values of an integral criterion for mixing efficiency were calculated. It is shown that pulsed heating can lead both to a decrease in the average mixing efficiency and to its increase (up to 9% in the considered heating mode). The calculation method used (unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier – Stokes equations with a modified $k-\varepsilon$ turbulence model) was validated by considering a typical case of the secondary transverse jet interaction with a supersonic flow, which was studied by several independent research groups and well documented in the literature. The grid convergence was shown for the simulation of this typical case in FlowVision. A quantitative comparison was made of the results obtained from FlowVision calculations with experimental data and calculations in other programs. The results of this study can be useful for specialists dealing with the problems of gas mixing and combustion in a supersonic flow, as well as the development of engines for supersonic aviation.

Simulation of rail vehicles ride in Simpack Rail on the curved track
Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 2, pp. 249-263Views (last year): 20.The paper studies the determination for one of the dynamic quality parameter (PDK) of railway vehicles — car body lateral acceleration — by using of computer simulation system for railway vehicles dynamic Simpack Rail. This provide the complex simulation environment with variable velocity depending on the train schedule. The rail vehicle model of typical 1520 mm gauge fright locomotive section used for simulation has been verified by means of the chair “Electric multiple unit cars and locomotives” in the Russian University of Transport (RUT (MIIT)). Due to this homologation the questions of model creating and verification in preprocessor are excluded in this paper. The paper gives the detail description of cartographic track modeling in situation plane, heights plane and superelevation plane based on the real operating data. The statistic parameters (moments) for the rail related track excitation and used cartographic track data of the specified track section in this simulation are given as a numeric and graphical results of reading the prepared data files. The measurement of the car body residual lateral acceleration occur under consideration of the earth gravity acceleration part like the accelerometer measurement in the real world. Finally the desired quality parameter determined by simulation is compared with the same one given by a test drive. The calculation method in both cases is based on the middle value of the absolute maximums picked up within the nonstationary realizations of this parameter. Compared results confirm that this quality factor all the first depends on the velocity and track geometry properties. The simulation of the track in this application uses the strong conformity original track data of the test ride track section. The accepted simplification in the rail vehicle model of fright electric locomotive section (body properties related to the center of gravity, small displacements between the bodies) by keeping the geometric and force law characteristics of the force elements and constraints constant allow in Simpack Rail the simulation with necessary validity of system behavior (reactions).

Modeling the physical processes of a powerful nuclear explosion on an asteroid
Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 5, pp. 861-877As part of the paper, a physical and theoretical analysis of the impact processes of various factors of a highaltitude and high-energy nuclear explosion on the asteroid in extra-atmospheric conditions of open space is done. It is shown that, in accordance with the energy and permeability of the plasma of explosion products, X-ray and gamma-neutron radiation, a layered structure with a different energy density depending on angular coordinates is formed on the surface of the asteroid. The temporal patterns of the energy transformation for each layer is clarified and the roles of various photo- and collision processes are determined. The effect of a high-speed plasma flow is erosive in nature, and the plasma pulse is transmitted to the asteroid. The paper presents that in a thin layer of x-ray absorption, the asteroid substance is heated to high temperatures and as a result of its expansion, a recoil impulse is formed, which is not decisive due to the small mass of the expanding high-temperature plasma. Calculations shows that the main impulse received by an asteroid is associated with the entrainment of a heated layer of a substance formed by a neutron flux (7.5 E 1014 g E cm/s). It is shown that an asteroid with a radius of ~100 m acquires a velocity of . 100 cm/s. The calculations were performed taking into account the explosion energy spent on the destruction of the amorphous structure of the asteroid material (~1 eV/atom = 3.8 E 1010 erg/g) and ionization in the region of the high-temperature layer. Based on a similar analysis, an approximation is obtained for estimating the average size of fragments in the event of the possible destruction of the asteroid by shock waves generated inside it under the influence of pressure impulses. A physical experiment was conducted in laboratory conditions, simulating the fragmentation of a stone asteroid and confirming the validity of the obtained dependence on the selected values of certain parameters. As a result of numerical studies of the effects of the explosion, carried out at different distances from the surface of the asteroid, it is shown that taking into account the real geometry of the spallation layer gives the optimal height for the formation of the maximum asteroid momentum by a factor of 1.5 greater than similar estimates according to the simplified model. A two-stage concept of the impact of nuclear explosions on an asteroid using radar guidance tools is proposed. The paper analyzes the possible impact of the emerging ionization interference on the radar tracking of the movement of large fragments of the asteroid in the space-time evolution of all elements of the studied dynamic system.

Numerical simulation of ice accretion in FlowVision software
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 1, pp. 83-96Certifying a transport airplane for the flights under icing conditions requires calculations aimed at definition of the dimensions and shapes of the ice bodies formed on the airplane surfaces. Up to date, software developed in Russia for simulation of ice accretion, which would be authorized by Russian certifying supervisory authority, is absent. This paper describes methodology IceVision recently developed in Russia on the basis of software FlowVision for calculations of ice accretion on airplane surfaces.
The main difference of methodology IceVision from the other approaches, known from literature, consists in using technology Volume Of Fluid (VOF — volume of fluid in cell) for tracking the surface of growing ice body. The methodology assumes solving a time-depended problem of continuous grows of ice body in the Euler formulation. The ice is explicitly present in the computational domain. The energy equation is integrated inside the ice body. In the other approaches, changing the ice shape is taken into account by means of modifying the aerodynamic surface and using Lagrangian mesh. In doing so, the heat transfer into ice is allowed for by an empirical model.
The implemented mathematical model provides capability to simulate formation of rime (dry) and glaze (wet) ice. It automatically identifies zones of rime and glaze ice. In a rime (dry) ice zone, the temperature of the contact surface between air and ice is calculated with account of ice sublimation and heat conduction inside the ice. In a glaze (wet) ice zone, the flow of the water film over the ice surface is allowed for. The film freezes due to evaporation and heat transfer inside the air and the ice. Methodology IceVision allows for separation of the film. For simulation of the two-phase flow of the air and droplets, a multi-speed model is used within the Euler approach. Methodology IceVision allows for size distribution of droplets. The computational algorithm takes account of essentially different time scales for the physical processes proceeding in the course of ice accretion, viz., air-droplets flow, water flow, and ice growth. Numerical solutions of validation test problems demonstrate efficiency of methodology IceVision and reliability of FlowVision results.

Application of computational simulation techniques for designing swim-out release systems
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 3, pp. 597-606The article describes the basic approaches of the calculation procedure of payload swim-out (objects of different function with own propulsor) from the underwater carrier a method of a self-exit using modern CFD technologies. It contains the description of swim-out by a self-exit method, its advantages and disadvantages. Also it contains results of research of convergence on a grid of a final-volume model with accuracy-time criterion, and results of comparison of calculation with experiment (validation of models). Validation of models was carried out using the available data of experimental definition of traction characteristics of water-jet propulsor of the natural sample in the development pool. Calculations of traction characteristics of water-jet propulsor were carried out via software package FlowVision ver. 3.10. On the basis of comparison of results of calculations for conditions of carrying out of experiments the error of water-jet propulsor calculated model which has made no more than 5% in a range of advance coefficient water-jet propulsor, realised in the process of swim-out by a selfexit method has been defined. The received value of an error of calculation of traction characteristics is used for definition of limiting settlement values of speed of branch of object from the carrier (the minimum and maximum values). The considered problem is significant from the scientific point of view thanks to features of the approach to modelling hydrojet moving system together with movement of separated object, and also from the practical point of view, thanks to possibility of reception with high degree of reliability of parametres swim-out of objects from sea bed vehicles a method of the self-exit which working conditions are assumed by movement in the closed volumes, already on a design stage.

Cloud interpretation of the entropy model for calculating the trip matrix
Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 1, pp. 89-103As the population of cities grows, the need to plan for the development of transport infrastructure becomes more acute. For this purpose, transport modeling packages are created. These packages usually contain a set of convex optimization problems, the iterative solution of which leads to the desired equilibrium distribution of flows along the paths. One of the directions for the development of transport modeling is the construction of more accurate generalized models that take into account different types of passengers, their travel purposes, as well as the specifics of personal and public modes of transport that agents can use. Another important direction of transport models development is to improve the efficiency of the calculations performed. Since, due to the large dimension of modern transport networks, the search for a numerical solution to the problem of equilibrium distribution of flows along the paths is quite expensive. The iterative nature of the entire solution process only makes this worse. One of the approaches leading to a reduction in the number of calculations performed is the construction of consistent models that allow to combine the blocks of a 4-stage model into a single optimization problem. This makes it possible to eliminate the iterative running of blocks, moving from solving a separate optimization problem at each stage to some general problem. Early work has proven that such approaches provide equivalent solutions. However, it is worth considering the validity and interpretability of these methods. The purpose of this article is to substantiate a single problem, that combines both the calculation of the trip matrix and the modal choice, for the generalized case when there are different layers of demand, types of agents and classes of vehicles in the transport network. The article provides possible interpretations for the gauge parameters used in the problem, as well as for the dual factors associated with the balance constraints. The authors of the article also show the possibility of combining the considered problem with a block for determining network load into a single optimization problem.

Experimental identification of the organization of mental calculations of the person on the basis of algebras of different associativity
Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 2, pp. 311-327Views (last year): 16.The work continues research on the ability of a person to improve the productivity of information processing, using parallel work or improving the performance of analyzers. A person receives a series of tasks, the solution of which requires the processing of a certain amount of information. The time and the validity of the decision are recorded. The dependence of the average solution time on the amount of information in the problem is determined by correctly solved problems. In accordance with the proposed method, the problems contain calculations of expressions in two algebras, one of which is associative and the other is nonassociative. To facilitate the work of the subjects in the experiment were used figurative graphic images of elements of algebra. Non-associative calculations were implemented in the form of the game “rock-paper-scissors”. It was necessary to determine the winning symbol in the long line of these figures, considering that they appear sequentially from left to right and play with the previous winner symbol. Associative calculations were based on the recognition of drawings from a finite set of simple images. It was necessary to determine which figure from this set in the line is not enough, or to state that all the pictures are present. In each problem there was no more than one picture. Computation in associative algebra allows the parallel counting, and in the absence of associativity only sequential computations are possible. Therefore, the analysis of the time for solving a series of problems reveals a consistent uniform, sequential accelerated and parallel computing strategy. In the experiments it was found that all subjects used a uniform sequential strategy to solve non-associative problems. For the associative task, all subjects used parallel computing, and some have used parallel computing acceleration of the growth of complexity of the task. A small part of the subjects with a high complexity, judging by the evolution of the solution time, supplemented the parallel account with a sequential stage of calculations (possibly to control the solution). We develop a special method for assessing the rate of processing of input information by a person. It allowed us to estimate the level of parallelism of the calculation in the associative task. Parallelism of level from two to three was registered. The characteristic speed of information processing in the sequential case (about one and a half characters per second) is twice less than the typical speed of human image recognition. Apparently the difference in processing time actually spent on the calculation process. For an associative problem in the case of a minimum amount of information, the solution time is near to the non-associativity case or less than twice. This is probably due to the fact that for a small number of characters recognition almost exhausts the calculations for the used non-associative problem.

Quantitative analysis of “structure – anticancer activity” and rational molecular design of bi-functional VEGFR-2/HDAC-inhibitors
Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 5, pp. 911-930Inhibitors of histone deacetylases (HDACi) have considered as a promising class of drugs for the treatment of cancers because of their effects on cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis. Angiogenesis play an important role in the growth of most solid tumors and the progression of metastasis. The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a key angiogenic agent, which is secreted by malignant tumors, which induces the proliferation and the migration of vascular endothelial cells. Currently, the most promising strategy in the fight against cancer is the creation of hybrid drugs that simultaneously act on several physiological targets. In this work, a series of hybrids bearing N-phenylquinazolin-4-amine and hydroxamic acid moieties were studied as dual VEGFR-2/HDAC inhibitors using simplex representation of the molecular structure and Support Vector Machine (SVM). The total sample of 42 compounds was divided into training and test sets. Five-fold cross-validation (5-fold) was used for internal validation. Satisfactory quantitative structure—activity relationship (QSAR) models were constructed (R2test = 0.64–0.87) for inhibitors of HDAC, VEGFR-2 and human breast cancer cell line MCF-7. The interpretation of the obtained QSAR models was carried out. The coordinated effect of different molecular fragments on the increase of antitumor activity of the studied compounds was estimated. Among the substituents of the N-phenyl fragment, the positive contribution of para bromine for all three types of activity can be distinguished. The results of the interpretation were used for molecular design of potential dual VEGFR-2/HDAC inhibitors. For comparative QSAR research we used physicochemical descriptors calculated by the program HYBOT, the method of Random Forest (RF), and on-line version of the expert system OCHEM (https://ochem.eu). In the modeling of OCHEM PyDescriptor descriptors and extreme gradient boosting was chosen. In addition, the models obtained with the help of the expert system OCHEM were used for virtual screening of 300 compounds to select promising VEGFR-2/HDAC inhibitors for further synthesis and testing.
