Neural network model of human intoxication functional state determining in some problems of transport safety solution
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 3, pp. 285-293

This article solves the problem of vehicles drivers intoxication functional statedetermining. Its solution is relevant in the transport security field during pre-trip medical examination. The problem solution is based on the papillomometry method application, which allows to evaluate the driver state by his pupillary reaction to illumination change. The problem is to determine the state of driver inebriation by the analysis of the papillogram parameters values — a time series characterizing the change in pupil dimensions upon exposure to a short-time light pulse. For the papillograms analysis it is proposed to use a neural network. A neural network model for determining the drivers intoxication functional state is developed. For its training, specially prepared data samples are used which are the values of the following parameters of pupillary reactions grouped into two classes of functional states of drivers: initial diameter, minimum diameter, half-constriction diameter, final diameter, narrowing amplitude, rate of constriction, expansion rate, latent reaction time, the contraction time, the expansion time, the half-contraction time, and the half-expansion time. An example of the initial data is given. Based on their analysis, a neural network model is constructed in the form of a single-layer perceptron consisting of twelve input neurons, twenty-five neurons of the hidden layer, and one output neuron. To increase the model adequacy using the method of ROC analysis, the optimal cut-off point for the classes of solutions at the output of the neural network is determined. A scheme for determining the drivers intoxication state is proposed, which includes the following steps: pupillary reaction video registration, papillogram construction, parameters values calculation, data analysis on the base of the neural network model, driver’s condition classification as “norm” or “rejection of the norm”, making decisions on the person being audited. A medical worker conducting driver examination is presented with a neural network assessment of his intoxication state. On the basis of this assessment, an opinion on the admission or removal of the driver from driving the vehicle is drawn. Thus, the neural network model solves the problem of increasing the efficiency of pre-trip medical examination by increasing the reliability of the decisions made.

Modeling of disassembly processes of complex products
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 3, pp. 525-537

The work is devoted to modeling the processes of disassembling complex products in CADsystems. The ability to dismantle a product in a given sequence is formed at the early design stages, and is implemented at the end of the life cycle. Therefore, modern CAD-systems should have tools for assessing the complexity of dismantling parts and assembly units of a product. A hypergraph model of the mechanical structure of the product is proposed. It is shown that the mathematical description of coherent and sequential disassembly operations is the normal cutting of the edge of the hypergraph. A theorem on the properties of normal cuts is proved. This theorem allows us to organize a simple recursive procedure for generating all cuts of the hypergraph. The set of all cuts is represented as an AND/OR-tree. The tree contains information about plans for disassembling the product and its parts. Mathematical descriptions of various types of disassembly processes are proposed: complete, incomplete, linear, nonlinear. It is shown that the decisive graph of the AND/OR-tree is a model of disassembling the product and all its components obtained in the process of dismantling. An important characteristic of the complexity of dismantling parts is considered — the depth of nesting. A method of effective calculation of the estimate from below has been developed for this characteristic.

Optimal threshold selection algorithms for multi-label classification: property study
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 6, pp. 1221-1238

Multi-label classification models arise in various areas of life, which is explained by an increasing amount of information that requires prompt analysis. One of the mathematical methods for solving this problem is a plug-in approach, at the first stage of which, for each class, a certain ranking function is built, ordering all objects in some way, and at the second stage, the optimal thresholds are selected, the objects on one side of which are assigned to the current class, and on the other — to the other. Thresholds are chosen to maximize the target quality measure. The algorithms which properties are investigated in this article are devoted to the second stage of the plug-in approach which is the choice of the optimal threshold vector. This step becomes non-trivial if the $F$-measure of average precision and recall is used as the target quality assessment since it does not allow independent threshold optimization in each class. In problems of extreme multi-label classification, the number of classes can reach hundreds of thousands, so the original optimization problem is reduced to the problem of searching a fixed point of a specially introduced transformation $\boldsymbol V$, defined on a unit square on the plane of average precision $P$ and recall $R$. Using this transformation, two algorithms are proposed for optimization: the $F$-measure linearization method and the method of $\boldsymbol V$ domain analysis. The properties of algorithms are studied when applied to multi-label classification data sets of various sizes and origin, in particular, the dependence of the error on the number of classes, on the $F$-measure parameter, and on the internal parameters of methods under study. The peculiarity of both algorithms work when used for problems with the domain of $\boldsymbol V$, containing large linear boundaries, was found. In case when the optimal point is located in the vicinity of these boundaries, the errors of both methods do not decrease with an increase in the number of classes. In this case, the linearization method quite accurately determines the argument of the optimal point, while the method of $\boldsymbol V$ domain analysis — the polar radius.

Modeling the structure of a complex system based on estimation of the measure of interaction of subsystems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 4, pp. 707-719

The using of determining the measure of interaction between channels when choosing the configuration structure of a control system for complex dynamic objects is considered in the work. The main methods for determining the measure of interaction between subsystems of complex control systems based on the methods RGA (Relative Gain Array), Dynamic RGA, HIIA (Hankel Interaction Index Array), PM (Participation matrix) are presented. When choosing a control configuration, simple configurations are preferable, as they are simple in design, maintenance and more resistant to failures. However, complex configurations provide higher performance control systems. Processes in large dynamic objects are characterized by a high degree of interaction between process variables. For the design of the control structure interaction measures are used, namely, the selection of the control structure and the decision on the configuration of the controller. The choice of control structure is to determine which dynamic connections should be used to design the controller. When a structure is selected, connections can be used to configure the controller. For large systems, it is proposed to pre-group the components of the vectors of input and output signals of the actuators and sensitive elements into sets in which the number of variables decreases significantly in order to select a control structure. A quantitative estimation of the decentralization of the control system based on minimizing the sum of the off-diagonal elements of the PM matrix is given. An example of estimation the measure of interaction between components of strong coupled subsystems and the measure of interaction between components of weak coupled subsystems is given. A quantitative estimation is given of neglecting the interaction of components of weak coupled subsystems. The construction of a weighted graph for visualizing the interaction of the subsystems of a complex system is considered. A method for the formation of the controllability gramian on the vector of output signals that is invariant to state vector transformations is proposed in the paper. An example of the decomposition of the stabilization system of the components of the flying vehicle angular velocity vector is given. The estimation of measures of the mutual influence of processes in the channels of control systems makes it possible to increase the reliability of the systems when accounting for the use of analytical redundancy of information from various devices, which reduces the mass and energy consumption. Methods for assessing measures of the interaction of processes in subsystems of control systems can be used in the design of complex systems, for example, motion control systems, orientation and stabilization systems of vehicles.

Methodical questions of numerical simulation of external flows on locally-adaptive grids using wall functions
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 6, pp. 1269-1290

The work is dedicated to investigation of possibility to increase the efficiency of solving external aerodynamic problems. Methodical questions of using locally-adaptive grids and wall functions for numerical simulation of turbulent flows past flying vehicles are studied. Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations are integrated. The equations are closed by standard $k–\varepsilon$ turbulence model. Subsonic turbulent flow of perfect compressible viscous gas past airfoil RAE 2822 is considered. Calculations are performed in CFD software FlowVision. The efficiency of using the technology of smoothing diffusion fluxes and the Bradshaw formula for turbulent viscosity is analyzed. These techniques are regarded as means of increasing the accuracy of solving aerodynamic problems on locally-adaptive grids. The obtained results show that using the technology of smoothing diffusion fluxes essentially decreases the discrepancy between computed and experimental values of the drag coefficient. In addition, the distribution of the skin friction coefficient over the curvilinear surface of the airfoil becomes more regular. These results indicate that the given technology is an effective way to increase the accuracy of calculations on locally-adaptive grids. The Bradshaw formula for the dynamic coefficient of turbulent viscosity is traditionally used in the SST $k–\omega$ turbulence model. The possibility to implement it in the standard $k–\varepsilon$ turbulence model is investigated in the present article. The calculations show that this formula provides good agreement of integral aerodynamic characteristics and the distribution of the pressure coefficient over the airfoil surface with experimental data. Besides that, it essentially augments the accuracy of simulation of the flow in the boundary layer and in the wake. On the other hand, using the Bradshaw formula in the simulation of the air flow past airfoil RAE 2822 leads to under-prediction of the skin friction coefficient. For this reason, the conclusion is made that practical use of the Bradshaw formula requires its preliminary validation and calibration on reliable experimental data available for the considered flows. The results of the work as a whole show that using the technologies discussed in numerical solution of external aerodynamic problems on locally-adaptive grids together with wall functions provides the computational accuracy acceptable for quick assessment of the aerodynamic characteristics of a flying vehicle. So, one can deduce that the FlowVision software is an effective tool for preliminary design studies, for conceptual design, and for aerodynamic shape optimization.

Method of forming multiprogram control of an isolated intersection
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 2, pp. 295-303

The simplest and most desirable method of traffic signal control is precalculated regulation, when the parameters of the traffic light object operation are calculated in advance and activated in accordance to a schedule. This work proposes a method of forming a signal plan that allows one to calculate the control programs and set the period of their activity. Preparation of initial data for the calculation includes the formation of a time series of daily traffic intensity with an interval of 15 minutes. When carrying out field studies, it is possible that part of the traffic intensity measurements is missing. To fill up the missing traffic intensity measurements, the spline interpolation method is used. The next step of the method is to calculate the daily set of signal plans. The work presents the interdependencies, which allow one to calculate the optimal durations of the control cycle and the permitting phase movement and to set the period of their activity. The present movement control systems have a limit on the number of control programs. To reduce the signal plans' number and to determine their activity period, the clusterization using the $k$-means method in the transport phase space is introduced In the new daily signal plan, the duration of the phases is determined by the coordinates of the received cluster centers, and the activity periods are set by the elements included in the cluster. Testing on a numerical illustration showed that, when the number of clusters is 10, the deviation of the optimal phase duration from the cluster centers does not exceed 2 seconds. To evaluate the effectiveness of the developed methodology, a real intersection with traffic light regulation was considered as an example. Based on field studies of traffic patterns and traffic demand, a microscopic model for the SUMO (Simulation of Urban Mobility) program was developed. The efficiency assessment is based on the transport losses estimated by the time spent on movement. Simulation modeling of the multiprogram control of traffic lights showed a 20% reduction in the delay time at the traffic light object in comparison with the single-program control. The proposed method allows automation of the process of calculating daily signal plans and setting the time of their activity.

Improvement of the paired comparison method for implementation in computer programs used in assessment of technical systems’ quality
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 6, pp. 1125-1135

The article describes an improved paired comparison method, which systematizes in tables the rules of logical conclusions and formulas of checking indices for comparison of technical systems. To achieve this goal, the authors formulate rational rules of logical conclusions in making a paired comparison of the systems. In addition, for the purpose of consistency check of the results of the assessment, the authors introduce parameters such as «the number of scores gained by one system» and «systems’ quality index»; moreover, they design corresponding calculation formulas. For the purposes of practical application of this method to design computer programs, the authors propose to use formalized variants of interconnected tables: a table for processing and systematization of expert information, a table of possible logical conclusions based on the results of comparison of a set number of technical systems and a table of check values in the paired comparison method used in quality assessment of a definite number of technical systems. These tables allow one to organize procedures of the information processing in a more rational way and to predominantly exclude the influence of mistakes on the results of quality assessment of technical systems at the stage of data input. The main positive effect from the implementation of the paired comparison method is observed in a considerable reduction of time and resources needed to organize experts work, process expert information, and to prepare and conduct distant interviews with experts (on the Internet or a local computer network of an organization). This effect is achieved by a rational use of input data of the quality of the systems to be assessed. The proposed method is applied to computer programs used in assessing the effectiveness and stability of large technical systems.

Training and assessment the generalization ability of interpolation methods
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 5, pp. 1023-1031

We investigate machine learning methods with a certain kind of decision rule. In particular, inverse-distance method of interpolation, method of interpolation by radial basis functions, the method of multidimensional interpolation and approximation, based on the theory of random functions, the last method of interpolation is kriging. This paper shows a method of rapid retraining “model” when adding new data to the existing ones. The term “model” means interpolating or approximating function constructed from the training data. This approach reduces the computational complexity of constructing an updated “model” from $O(n^3)$ to $O(n^2)$. We also investigate the possibility of a rapid assessment of generalizing opportunities “model” on the training set using the method of cross-validation leave-one-out cross-validation, eliminating the major drawback of this approach — the necessity to build a new “model” for each element which is removed from the training set.

Modelling the risk of insect impacts on forest stands after possible climate changes
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 2, pp. 241-253

A model of forest insect population dynamics used to simulate of “forest-insect” interactions and for estimation of possible damages of forest stand by pests. This model represented a population as control system where the input variables characterized the influence of modifier (climatic) factors and the feedback loop describes the effect of regulatory factors (parasites, predators and population interactions). The technique of stress testing on the basis of population dynamics model proposed for assessment of the risks of forest stand damage and destruction after insect impact. The dangerous forest pest pine looper Bupalus piniarius L. considered as the object of analysis. Computer experiments were conducted to assess of outbreak risks with possible climate change in the territory of Central Siberia. Model experiments have shown that risk of insect impact on the forest is not increased significantly in condition of sufficiently moderate warming (not more than 4 °C in summer period). However, a stronger warming in the territory of Central Siberia, combined with a dry summer condition could cause a significant increase in the risk of pine looper outbreaks.
