  1. In the paper the statistical relationships between the size and production characteristics of phytoplankton and zooplankton of the Vistula and Curonian lagoons, the Baltic Sea, were investigated. Research phytoplankton and zooplankton within the Russian part of the area of the Vistula and the Curonian lagoon was carried out on the monthly basis (from April to November) within the framework of long-term monitoring program on evaluating of ecological status of the lagoons. The size structure of plankton is the basis for understanding of the development of production processes, mechanisms of formation of the plankton species diversity and functioning of the lagoon ecosystems. As results of the work it was found that the maximum rate of photosynthesis and the integral value of the primary production with a change in cell volume of phytoplankton are changed according to a power law. The result shows that the smaller the size of algal cells in phytoplankton communities the more actively occur metabolism and the more effective they assimilate the solar energy. It is shown that the formation of plankton species diversity in ecosystems of lagoons is closely linked with the size structure of plankton communities and with features of development of the production processes. It is proposed the structure of a spatially homogenous mathematical model of the plankton food chain for the lagoon ecosystems taking into account the size spectrum and the characteristics of phytoplankton and zooplankton. The model parameters are the sizedependent indicators allometrically linked with average volumes of cells and organisms in different ranges of their sizes. In the model the algorithm for changes over time the coefficients of food preferences in the diet of zooplankton was proposed. Developed the size-dependent mathematical model of aquatic ecosystems allows to consider the impact of turbulent exchange on the size structure and temporal dynamics of the plankton food chain of the Vistula and Curonian lagoons. The model can be used to study the different regimes of dynamic behavior of plankton systems depending on the changes in the values of its parameters and external influences, as well as to quantify the redistribution of matter flows in ecosystems of the lagoons.

The agent model of intercultural interactions: the emergence of cultural uncertainties
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 5, pp. 1143-1162

The article describes a simulation agent-based model of intercultural interactions in a country whose population belongs to different cultures. It is believed that the space of cultures can be represented as a Hilbert space, in which certain subspaces correspond to different cultures. In the model, the concept of culture is understood as a structured subspace of the Hilbert space. This makes it possible to describe the state of agents by a vector in a Hilbert space. It is believed that each agent is described by belonging to a certain «culture». The number of agents belonging to certain cultures is determined by demographic processes that correspond to these cultures, the depth and integrity of the educational process, as well as the intensity of intercultural contacts. Interaction between agents occurs within clusters, into which, according to certain criteria, the entire set of agents is divided. When agents interact according to a certain algorithm, the length and angle that characterize the state of the agent change. In the process of imitation, depending on the number of agents belonging to different cultures, the intensity of demographic and educational processes, as well as the intensity of intercultural contacts, aggregates of agents (clusters) are formed, the agents of which belong to different cultures. Such intercultural clusters do not entirely belong to any of the cultures initially considered in the model. Such intercultural clusters create uncertainties in cultural dynamics. The paper presents the results of simulation experiments that illustrate the influence of demographic and educational processes on the dynamics of intercultural clusters. The issues of the development of the proposed approach to the study (discussion) of the transitional states of the development of cultures are discussed.

Describing processes in photosynthetic reaction center ensembles using a Monte Carlo kinetic model
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 5, pp. 1207-1221

Photosynthetic apparatus of a plant cell consists of multiple photosynthetic electron transport chains (ETC). Each ETC is capable of capturing and utilizing light quanta, that drive electron transport along the chain. Light assimilation efficiency depends on the plant’s current physiological state. The energy of the part of quanta that cannot be utilized, dissipates into heat, or is emitted as fluorescence. Under high light conditions fluorescence levels gradually rise to the maximum level. The curve describing that rise is called fluorescence rise (FR). It has a complex shape and that shape changes depending on the photosynthetic apparatus state. This gives one the opportunity to investigate that state only using the non invasive measuring of the FR.

When measuring fluorescence in experimental conditions, we get a response from millions of photosynthetic units at a time. In order to reproduce the probabilistic nature of the processes in a photosynthetic ETC, we created a Monte Carlo model of this chain. This model describes an ETC as a sequence of electron carriers in a thylakoid membrane, connected with each other. Those carriers have certain probabilities of capturing light photons, transferring excited states, or reducing each other, depending on the current ETC state. The events that take place in each of the model photosynthetic ETCs are registered, accumulated and used to create fluorescence rise and electron carrier redox states accumulation kinetics. This paper describes the model structure, the principles of its operation and the relations between certain model parameters and the resulting kinetic curves shape. Model curves include photosystem II reaction center fluorescence rise and photosystem I reaction center redox state change kinetics under different conditions.
