Introduction to the theory of complex networks
Computer Research and Modeling, 2010, v. 2, no. 2, pp. 121-141Views (last year): 53. Citations: 107 (RSCI).There was a new direction of studying of the complex systems last years, considering them as networks. Nodes in such networks represent elements of these complex systems, and links between nodes – interactions between elements. These researches deal with real systems, such as biological (metabolic networks of cells, functional networks of a brain, ecological systems), technical (the Internet, WWW, networks of the companies of cellular communication, power grids), social (networks of scientific cooperation, a network of movie actors, a network of acquaintances). It has appeared that these networks have more complex architecture, than classical random networks. In the offered review the basic concepts theory of complex networks are given, and the basic directions of studying of real networks structures are also briefly described.

Using collective of agents for exploration of graph
Computer Research and Modeling, 2013, v. 5, no. 4, pp. 525-532Problem of exploration finite undirected graphs by a collective of agents is considered in this work. Two agents-researchers simultaneously move on graph, they read and change marks of graph elements, transfer the information to the agent-experimenter (it builds explored graph representation). It was constructed an algorithm linear (from amount of the graph’s nodes) time complexity, quadratic space complexity and communication complexity, that is equal to O(n2·log(n)). Two agents (which move on graph) need two different colors (in total three colors) for graph exploration. An algorithm is based on depth-first traversal method.

Review of Modern State of Quantum Technologies
Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 2, pp. 165-179Views (last year): 56.At present modern quantum technologies can get a new twist of development, which will certainly give an opportunity to obtain solutions for numerous problems that previously could not be solved in the framework of “traditional” paradigms and computational models. All mankind stands at the threshold of the so-called “second quantum revolution”, and its short-term and long-term consequences will affect virtually all spheres of life of a global society. Such directions and branches of science and technology as materials science, nanotechnology, pharmacology and biochemistry in general, modeling of chaotic dynamic processes (nuclear explosions, turbulent flows, weather and long-term climatic phenomena), etc. will be directly developed, as well as the solution of any problems, which reduce to the multiplication of matrices of large dimensions (in particular, the modeling of quantum systems). However, along with extraordinary opportunities, quantum technologies carry with them certain risks and threats, in particular, the scrapping of all information systems based on modern achievements in cryptography, which will entail almost complete destruction of secrecy, the global financial crisis due to the destruction of the banking sector and compromise of all communication channels. Even in spite of the fact that methods of so-called “post-quantum” cryptography are already being developed today, some risks still need to be realized, since not all long-term consequences can be calculated. At the same time, one should be prepared to all of the above, including by training specialists working in the field of quantum technologies and understanding all their aspects, new opportunities, risks and threats. In this connection, this article briefly describes the current state of quantum technologies, namely, quantum sensorics, information transfer using quantum protocols, a universal quantum computer (hardware), and quantum computations based on quantum algorithms (software). For all of the above, forecasts are given for the development of the impact on various areas of human civilization.

Quadratic Padé Approximation: Numerical Aspects and Applications
Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 6, pp. 1017-1031Padé approximation is a useful tool for extracting singularity information from a power series. A linear Padé approximant is a rational function and can provide estimates of pole and zero locations in the complex plane. A quadratic Padé approximant has square root singularities and can, therefore, provide additional information such as estimates of branch point locations. In this paper, we discuss numerical aspects of computing quadratic Padé approximants as well as some applications. Two algorithms for computing the coefficients in the approximant are discussed: a direct method involving the solution of a linear system (well-known in the mathematics community) and a recursive method (well-known in the physics community). We compare the accuracy of these two methods when implemented in floating-point arithmetic and discuss their pros and cons. In addition, we extend Luke’s perturbation analysis of linear Padé approximation to the quadratic case and identify the problem of spurious branch points in the quadratic approximant, which can cause a significant loss of accuracy. A possible remedy for this problem is suggested by noting that these troublesome points can be identified by the recursive method mentioned above. Another complication with the quadratic approximant arises in choosing the appropriate branch. One possibility, which is to base this choice on the linear approximant, is discussed in connection with an example due to Stahl. It is also known that the quadratic method is capable of providing reasonable approximations on secondary sheets of the Riemann surface, a fact we illustrate here by means of an example. Two concluding applications show the superiority of the quadratic approximant over its linear counterpart: one involving a special function (the Lambert $W$-function) and the other a nonlinear PDE (the continuation of a solution of the inviscid Burgers equation into the complex plane).

Stable character of the Rice statistical distribution: the theory and application in the tasks of the signals’ phase shift measuring
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 3, pp. 475-485The paper concerns the study of the Rice statistical distribution’s peculiarities which cause the possibility of its efficient application in solving the tasks of high precision phase measuring in optics. The strict mathematical proof of the Rician distribution’s stable character is provided in the example of the differential signal consideration, namely: it has been proved that the sum or the difference of two Rician signals also obey the Rice distribution. Besides, the formulas have been obtained for the parameters of the resulting summand or differential signal’s Rice distribution. Based upon the proved stable character of the Rice distribution a new original technique of the high precision measuring of the two quasi-harmonic signals’ phase shift has been elaborated in the paper. This technique is grounded in the statistical analysis of the measured sampled data for the amplitudes of the both signals and for the amplitude of the third signal which is equal to the difference of the two signals to be compared in phase. The sought-for phase shift of two quasi-harmonic signals is being calculated from the geometrical considerations as an angle of a triangle which sides are equal to the three indicated signals’ amplitude values having been reconstructed against the noise background. Thereby, the proposed technique of measuring the phase shift using the differential signal analysis, is based upon the amplitude measurements only, what significantly decreases the demands to the equipment and simplifies the technique implementation in practice. The paper provides both the strict mathematical substantiation of a new phase shift measuring technique and the results of its numerical testing. The elaborated method of high precision phase measurements may be efficiently applied for solving a wide circle of tasks in various areas of science and technology, in particular — at distance measuring, in communication systems, in navigation, etc.

ARC Compute Element is becoming more popular in WLCG and EGI infrastructures, being used not only in the Grid context, but also as an interface to HPC and Cloud resources. It strongly relies on community contributions, which helps keeping up with the changes in the distributed computing landscape. Future ARC plans are closely linked to the needs of the LHC computing, whichever shape it may take. There are also numerous examples of ARC usage for smaller research communities through national computing infrastructure projects in different countries. As such, ARC is a viable solution for building uniform distributed computing infrastructures using a variety of resources.

An integer-valued mathematical model of lake communities: Chaotic and long-period oscillations in the fish population size
Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 2, pp. 229-239Views (last year): 6.We present the results of a mathematical model for the aquatic communities which include zooplankton, planktivorous fish and predator fish. The aquatic populations are considered to be body mass- and agestructured, while the trophic relations between the populations to be correspondingly status-specific. The model reproduces diverse dynamic regimes as such steady states and oscillations in the population size. Oscillations in the fish population size are shown to be both regular and irregular. We show that the period of the regular oscillations can be up to decades. The irregular oscillations are shown to be both chaotic and non-chaotic. Analyzing the dynamics in the model parameter space has enabled us to conclude that predictability of fish population dynamics can face difficulties both due to dynamical chaos and to the competition between various dynamical regimes caused by variations in the model parameters, specifically in the zooplankton growth rate.

Features of numerical solutions of some problems for cnoidal waves as periodic solutions of the Korteweg – de Vries
Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 5, pp. 885-901This article discusses the features of the numerical solutions of some problems for cnoidal waves, which are periodic solutions of the classical Korteweg – de Vries equation of the traveling wave type. Exact solutions describing these waves were obtained by communicating the autowave approximation of the Korteweg – de Vries equation to ordinary functions of the third, second, and finally, first orders. Referring to a numerical example shows that in this way ordinary differential equations are not equivalent. The theorem formulated and proved in this article and the remark to it include the set of solutions of the first and second order, which, in their ordinal, are not equivalent. The ordinary differential equation of the first order obtained by the autowave approximation for the description of a cnoidal wave (a periodic solution) and a soliton (a solitary wave). Despite this, from a computational point of view, this equation is the most inconvenient. For this equation, the Lipschitz condition for the sought-for function is not satisfied in the neighborhood of constant solutions. Hence, the existence theorem and the unique solutions of the Cauchy problem for an ordinary differential equation of the first order are not valid. In particular, the uniqueness of the solution to the Cauchy problem is violated at stationary points. Therefore, for an ordinary differential equation of the first order, obtained from the Korteweg – de Vries equation, both in the case of a cnoidal wave and in the case of a soliton, the Cauchy problem cannot be posed at the extremum points. The first condition can be a set position between adjacent extremum points. But for the second, third and third orders, the initial conditions can be set at the growth points and at the extremum points. In this case, the segment for the numerical solution greatly expands and periodicity is observed. For the solutions of these ordinary solutions, the statements of the Cauchy problems are studied, and the results are compared with exact solutions and with each other. A numerical realization of the transformation of a cnoidal wave into a soliton is shown. The results of the article have a hemodynamic interpretation of the pulsating blood flow in a cylindrical blood vessel consisting of elastic rings.

Conversion of the initial indices of the technological process of the smelting of steel for the subsequent simulation
Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 2, pp. 187-199Views (last year): 6. Citations: 1 (RSCI).Efficiency of production directly depends on quality of the management of technology which, in turn, relies on the accuracy and efficiency of the processing of control and measuring information. Development of the mathematical methods of research of the system communications and regularities of functioning and creation of the mathematical models taking into account structural features of object of researches, and also writing of the software products for realization of these methods are an actual task. Practice has shown that the list of parameters that take place in the study of complex object of modern production, ranging from a few dozen to several hundred names, and the degree of influence of each factor in the initial time is not clear. Before working for the direct determination of the model in these circumstances, it is impossible — the amount of the required information may be too great, and most of the work on the collection of this information will be done in vain due to the fact that the degree of influence on the optimization of most factors of the original list would be negligible. Therefore, a necessary step in determining a model of a complex object is to work to reduce the dimension of the factor space. Most industrial plants are hierarchical group processes and mass volume production, characterized by hundreds of factors. (For an example of realization of the mathematical methods and the approbation of the constructed models data of the Moldavian steel works were taken in a basis.) To investigate the systemic linkages and patterns of functioning of such complex objects are usually chosen several informative parameters, and carried out their sampling. In this article the sequence of coercion of the initial indices of the technological process of the smelting of steel to the look suitable for creation of a mathematical model for the purpose of prediction is described. The implementations of new types became also creation of a basis for development of the system of automated management of quality of the production. In the course of weak correlation the following stages are selected: collection and the analysis of the basic data, creation of the table the correlated of the parameters, abbreviation of factor space by means of the correlative pleiads and a method of weight factors. The received results allow to optimize process of creation of the model of multiple-factor process.
