Running applications on a hybrid cluster
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 3, pp. 475-483

A hybrid cluster implies the use of computational devices with radically different architectures. Usually, these are conventional CPU architecture (e.g. x86_64) and GPU architecture (e. g. NVIDIA CUDA). Creating and exploiting such a cluster requires some experience: in order to harness all computational power of the described system and get substantial speedup for computational tasks many factors should be taken into account. These factors consist of hardware characteristics (e.g. network infrastructure, a type of data storage, GPU architecture) as well as software stack (e.g. MPI implementation, GPGPU libraries). So, in order to run scientific applications GPU capabilities, software features, task size and other factors should be considered.

This report discusses opportunities and problems of hybrid computations. Some statistics from tests programs and applications runs will be demonstrated. The main focus of interest is open source applications (e. g. OpenFOAM) that support GPGPU (with some parts rewritten to use GPGPU directly or by replacing libraries).

There are several approaches to organize heterogeneous computations for different GPU architectures out of which CUDA library and OpenCL framework are compared. CUDA library is becoming quite typical for hybrid systems with NVIDIA cards, but OpenCL offers portability opportunities which can be a determinant factor when choosing framework for development. We also put emphasis on multi-GPU systems that are often used to build hybrid clusters. Calculations were performed on a hybrid cluster of SPbU computing center.

Protection of biological resources in the coastal area: the mathematical model
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 5, pp. 1109-1125

Protection of aquatic biological resources in the coastal area has significant features (a large number of small fishing vessels, the dynamism of the situation, the use of coastal protection), by virtue of which stands in a class of applications. A mathematical model of protection designed for the determination of detection equipment and means of violators of the situation in order to ensure the function of deterrence of illegal activities. Resolves a tactical game-theoretic problem - find the optimal line patrol (parking) means of implementation (guard boats) and optimal removal of seats from the shore fishing violators. Using the methods of the theory of experimental design, linear regression models to assess the contribution of the main factors affecting the results of the simulation.

In order to enhance the sustainability and adequacy of the model is proposed to use the mechanism of rankings means of protection, based on the borders and the rank and Pareto allows to take into account the principles of protection and further means of protection. To account for the variability of the situation offered several scenarios in which it is advisable to perform calculations.

Methodic of legacy information systems handling
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2014, v. 6, no. 2, pp. 331-344

In this article a method of legacy information systems handling is offered. During professional activities of specialists of various domains of industry they face with the problem that computer software that was involved in product development stage becomes obsolete much quickly than the product itself. At the same time switch to any modern software might be not possible due to various reasons. This problem is known as "legacy system" problem. It appears when product lifecycle is sufficiently longer than that of software systems that were used for product creation. In this article author offers an approach for solving this problem along with computer application based on this approach.

Assessing the impact of deposit benchmark interest rate on banking loan dynamics
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 4, pp. 1023-1032

Deposit benchmark interest rates are a policy implemented by banking regulators to calculate the interest rates offered to depositors, maintaining equitable and competitive rates within the financial industry. It functions as a benchmark for determining the pricing of different banking products, expenses, and financial choices. The benchmark rate will have a direct impact on the amount of money deposited, which in turn will determine the amount of money available for lending. We are motivated to analyze the influence of deposit benchmark interest rates on the dynamics of banking loans. This study examines the issue using a difference equation of banking loans. In this process, the decision on the loan amount in the next period is influenced by both the present loan volume and the information on its marginal profit. An analysis is made of the loan equilibrium point and its stability. We also analyze the bifurcations that arise in the model. To ensure a stable banking loan, it is necessary to set the benchmark rate higher than the flip value and lower than the transcritical bifurcation values. The confirmation of this result is supported by the bifurcation diagram and its associated Lyapunov exponent. Insufficient deposit benchmark interest rates might lead to chaotic dynamics in banking lending. Additionally, a bifurcation diagram with two parameters is also shown. We do numerical sensitivity analysis by examining contour plots of the stability requirements, which vary with the deposit benchmark interest rate and other parameters. In addition, we examine a nonstandard difference approach for the previous model, assess its stability, and make a comparison with the standard model. The outcome of our study can provide valuable insights to the banking regulator in making informed decisions regarding deposit benchmark interest rates, taking into account several other banking factors.

Mathematical modeling of the optimal market of competing goods in conditions of deliveries lags
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2012, v. 4, no. 2, pp. 431-450

The nonlinear restrictive (with restrictions of the inequalities type) dynamic mathematical model of the committed competition vacant market of many goods in conditions of the goods deliveries time-lag and of the linear dependency of the demand vector from the prices vector is offered. The problem of finding of prices and deliveries of goods into the market which are optimal (from seller’s profit standpoint) is formulated. It is shown the seller’s total profit maximum is expressing by the continuous piecewise smooth function of vector of volumes of deliveries with breakup of the derivative on borders of zones of the goods deficit, of the overstocking and of the dynamic balance of demand and offer of each of goods. With use of the predicate functions technique the computing algorithm of optimization of the goods deliveries into the market is built.

Exact calculation of a posteriori probability distribution with distributed computing systems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 3, pp. 539-542

We'd like to present a specific grid infrastructure and web application development and deployment. The purpose of infrastructure and web application is to solve particular geophysical problems that require heavy computational resources. Here we cover technology overview and connector framework internals. The connector framework links problem-specific routines with middleware in a manner that developer of application doesn't have to be aware of any particular grid software. That is, the web application built with this framework acts as an interface between the user 's web browser and Grid's (often very) own middleware.

Our distributed computing system is built around Gridway metascheduler. The metascheduler is connected to TORQUE resource managers of virtual compute nodes that are being run atop of compute cluster utilizing the virtualization technology. Such approach offers several notable features that are unavailable to bare-metal compute clusters.

The first application we've integrated with our framework is seismic anisotropic parameters determination by inversion of SKS and converted phases. We've used probabilistic approach to inverse problem solution based on a posteriory probability distribution function (APDF) formalism. To get the exact solution of the problem we have to compute the values of multidimensional function. Within our implementation we used brute-force APDF calculation on rectangular grid across parameter space.

The result of computation is stored in relational DBMS and then represented in familiar human-readable form. Application provides several instruments to allow analysis of function's shape by computational results: maximum value distribution, 2D cross-sections of APDF, 2D marginals and a few other tools. During the tests we've run the application against both synthetic and observed data.

3D molecular dynamic simulation of thermodynamic equilibrium problem for heated nickel
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 3, pp. 573-579

This work is devoted to molecular dynamic modeling of the thermal impact processes on the metal sample consisting of nickel atoms. For the solution of this problem, a continuous mathematical model on the basis of the classical Newton mechanics equations has been used; a numerical method based on the Verlet scheme has been chosen; a parallel algorithm has been offered, and its realization within the MPI and OpenMP technologies has been executed. By means of the developed parallel program, the investigation of thermodynamic equilibrium of nickel atoms’ system under the conditions of heating a sample to desired temperature has been executed. In numerical experiments both optimum parameters of calculation procedure and physical parameters of analyzed process have been defined. The obtained numerical results are well corresponding to known theoretical and experimental data.
