    Forecasting demographic and macroeconomic indicators in a distributed global model

    The paper present a dynamic macro model of world dynamics. The world is divided into 19 geographic regions in the model. The internal development of the regions is described by regression equations for demographic and economic indicators (Population, Gross Domestic Product, Gross Capital Formation). The bilateral trade flows from region to region describes interregional interactions and represented the trade submodel. Time, the gross product of the exporter and the gross product of the importer were used as regressors. Four types were considered: time pair regression — dependence of trade flow on time, export function — dependence of the share of trade flow in the gross product of the exporter on the gross product of the importer, import function — dependence of the share of trade flow in the gross product of the importer on the gross product of the exporter, multiple regression — dependence of trade flow on the gross products of the exporter and importer. Two types of functional dependence were used for each type: linear and log-linear, in total eight variants of the trading equation were studied. The quality of regression models is compared by the coefficient of determination. By calculations the model satisfactorily approximates the dynamics of monotonically changing indicators. The dynamics of non-monotonic trade flows is analyzed, three types of functional dependence on time are proposed for their approximation. It is shown that the number of foreign trade series can be approximated by the space of seven main components with a 10% error. The forecast of regional development and global dynamics up to 2040 is constructed.

    Application of the Dynamic Mode Decomposition in search of unstable modes in laminar-turbulent transition problem

    Laminar-turbulent transition is the subject of an active research related to improvement of economic efficiency of air vehicles, because in the turbulent boundary layer drag increases, which leads to higher fuel consumption. One of the directions of such research is the search for efficient methods, that can be used to find the position of the transition in space. Using this information about laminar-turbulent transition location when designing an aircraft, engineers can predict its performance and profitability at the initial stages of the project. Traditionally, $e^N$ method is applied to find the coordinates of a laminar-turbulent transition. It is a well known approach in industry. However, despite its widespread use, this method has a number of significant drawbacks, since it relies on parallel flow assumption, which limits the scenarios for its application, and also requires computationally expensive calculations in a wide range of frequencies and wave numbers. Alternatively, flow analysis can be done by using Dynamic Mode Decomposition, which allows one to analyze flow disturbances using flow data directly. Since Dynamic Mode Decomposition is a dimensionality reduction method, the number of computations can be dramatically reduced. Furthermore, usage of Dynamic Mode Decomposition expands the applicability of the whole method, due to the absence of assumptions about the parallel flow in its derivation.

    The presented study proposes an approach to finding the location of a laminar-turbulent transition using the Dynamic Mode Decomposition method. The essence of this approach is to divide the boundary layer region into sets of subregions, for each of which the transition point is independently calculated, using Dynamic Mode Decomposition for flow analysis, after which the results are averaged to produce the final result. This approach is validated by laminar-turbulent transition predictions of subsonic and supersonic flows over a 2D flat plate with zero pressure gradient. The results demonstrate the fundamental applicability and high accuracy of the described method in a wide range of conditions. The study focuses on comparison with the $e^N$ method and proves the advantages of the proposed approach. It is shown that usage of Dynamic Mode Decomposition leads to significantly faster execution due to less intensive computations, while the accuracy is comparable to the such of the solution obtained with the $e^N$ method. This indicates the prospects for using the described approach in a real world applications.

    Subgradient methods for weakly convex problems with a sharp minimum in the case of inexact information about the function or subgradient

    The problem of developing efficient numerical methods for non-convex (including non-smooth) problems is relevant due to their widespread use of such problems in applications. This paper is devoted to subgradient methods for minimizing Lipschitz $\mu$-weakly convex functions, which are not necessarily smooth. It is well known that subgradient methods have low convergence rates in high-dimensional spaces even for convex functions. However, if we consider a subclass of functions that satisfies sharp minimum condition and also use the Polyak step, we can guarantee a linear convergence rate of the subgradient method. In some cases, the values of the function or it’s subgradient may be available to the numerical method with some error. The accuracy of the solution provided by the numerical method depends on the magnitude of this error. In this paper, we investigate the behavior of the subgradient method with a Polyak step when inaccurate information about the objective function value or subgradient is used in iterations. We prove that with a specific choice of starting point, the subgradient method with some analogue of the Polyak step-size converges at a geometric progression rate on a class of $\mu$-weakly convex functions with a sharp minimum, provided that there is additive inaccuracy in the subgradient values. In the case when both the value of the function and the value of its subgradient at the current point are known with error, convergence to some neighborhood of the set of exact solutions is shown and the quality estimates of the output solution by the subgradient method with the corresponding analogue of the Polyak step are obtained. The article also proposes a subgradient method with a clipped step, and an assessment of the quality of the solution obtained by this method for the class of $\mu$-weakly convex functions with a sharp minimum is presented. Numerical experiments were conducted for the problem of low-rank matrix recovery. They showed that the efficiency of the studied algorithms may not depend on the accuracy of localization of the initial approximation within the required region, and the inaccuracy in the values of the function and subgradient may affect the number of iterations required to achieve an acceptable quality of the solution, but has almost no effect on the quality of the solution itself.

    Multi-stable scenarios for differential equations describing the dynamics of a predators and preys system

    Dynamic scenarios leading to multistability in the form of continuous families of stable solutions are studied for a system of autonomous differential equations. The approach is based on determining the cosymmetries of the problem, calculating stationary solutions, and numerically-analytically studying their stability. The analysis is carried out for equations of the Lotka –Volterra type, describing the interaction of two predators feeding on two related prey species. For a system of ordinary differential equations of the 4th order with 11 real parameters, a numerical-analytical study of possible interaction scenarios was carried out. Relationships are found analytically between the control parameters under which the cosymmetry linear in the variables of the problem is realized and families of stationary solutions (equilibria) arise. The case of multicosymmetry is established and explicit formulas for a two-parameter family of equilibria are presented. The analysis of the stability of these solutions made it possible to reveal the division of the family into regions of stable and unstable equilibria. In a computational experiment, the limit cycles branching off from unstable stationary solutions are determined and their multipliers corresponding to multistability are calculated. Examples of the coexistence of families of stable stationary and non-stationary solutions are presented. The analysis is carried out for the growth functions of logistic and “hyperbolic” types. Depending on the parameters, scenarios can be obtained when only stationary solutions (coexistence of prey without predators and mixed combinations), as well as families of limit cycles, are realized in the phase space. The multistability scenarios considered in the work allow one to analyze the situations that arise in the presence of several related species in the range. These results are the basis for subsequent analysis when the parameters deviate from cosymmetric relationships.

The paper presents the results of applying a scheme of very high accuracy and resolution to obtain numerical solutions of the Navier – Stokes equations of a compressible gas describing the occurrence and development of instability of a two-dimensional laminar boundary layer on a flat plate. The peculiarity of the conducted studies is the absence of commonly used artificial exciters of instability in the implementation of direct numerical modeling. The multioperator scheme used made it possible to observe the subtle effects of the birth of unstable modes and the complex nature of their development caused presumably by its small approximation errors. A brief description of the scheme design and its main properties is given. The formulation of the problem and the method of obtaining initial data are described, which makes it possible to observe the established non-stationary regime fairly quickly. A technique is given that allows detecting flow fluctuations with amplitudes many orders of magnitude smaller than its average values. A time-dependent picture of the appearance of packets of Tollmien – Schlichting waves with varying intensity in the vicinity of the leading edge of the plate and their downstream propagation is presented. The presented amplitude spectra with expanding peak values in the downstream regions indicate the excitation of new unstable modes other than those occurring in the vicinity of the leading edge. The analysis of the evolution of instability waves in time and space showed agreement with the main conclusions of the linear theory. The numerical solutions obtained seem to describe for the first time the complete scenario of the possible development of Tollmien – Schlichting instability, which often plays an essential role at the initial stage of the laminar-turbulent transition. They open up the possibilities of full-scale numerical modeling of this process, which is extremely important for practice, with a similar study of the spatial boundary layer.

    Theoretical modeling consensus building in the work of standardization technical committees in coalitions based on regular Markov chains

    Often decisions in social groups are made by consensus. This applies, for example, to the examination in the technical committee for standardization (TC) before the approval of the national standard by Rosstandart. The standard is approved if and only if the secured consensus in the TC. The same approach to standards development was adopted in almost all countries and at the regional and international level. Previously published works of authors dedicated to the construction of a mathematical model of time to reach consensus in technical committees for standardization in terms of variation in the number of TC members and their level of authoritarianism. The present study is a continuation of these works for the case of the formation of coalitions that are often formed during the consideration of the draft standard to the TC. In the article the mathematical model is constructed to ensure consensus on the work of technical standardization committees in terms of coalitions. In the framework of the model it is shown that in the presence of coalitions consensus is not achievable. However, the coalition, as a rule, are overcome during the negotiation process, otherwise the number of the adopted standards would be extremely small. This paper analyzes the factors that influence the bridging coalitions: the value of the assignment and an index of the effect of the coalition. On the basis of statistical modelling of regular Markov chains is investigated their effects on the time to ensure consensus in the technical Committee. It is proved that the time to reach consensus significantly depends on the value of unilateral concessions coalition and weakly depends on the size of coalitions. Built regression model of dependence of the average number of approvals from the value of the assignment. It was revealed that even a small concession leads to the onset of consensus, increasing the size of the assignment results (with other factors being equal) to a sharp decline in time before the consensus. It is shown that the assignment of a larger coalition against small coalitions takes on average more time before consensus. The result has practical value for all organizational structures, where the emergence of coalitions entails the inability of decision-making in the framework of consensus and requires the consideration of various methods for reaching a consensus decision.

    Distributed dCache-based storage system of UB RAS

    The approach to build territorial distributed storage system for high performance computing environment of UB RAS is presented. The storage system is based on the dCache middleware from the European Middleware Initiative project. The first milestone of distributed storage system implementation includes the data centers at the two UB RAS Regions: Yekaterinburg and Perm.
