Modeling the structure of a complex system based on estimation of the measure of interaction of subsystems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 4, pp. 707-719

The using of determining the measure of interaction between channels when choosing the configuration structure of a control system for complex dynamic objects is considered in the work. The main methods for determining the measure of interaction between subsystems of complex control systems based on the methods RGA (Relative Gain Array), Dynamic RGA, HIIA (Hankel Interaction Index Array), PM (Participation matrix) are presented. When choosing a control configuration, simple configurations are preferable, as they are simple in design, maintenance and more resistant to failures. However, complex configurations provide higher performance control systems. Processes in large dynamic objects are characterized by a high degree of interaction between process variables. For the design of the control structure interaction measures are used, namely, the selection of the control structure and the decision on the configuration of the controller. The choice of control structure is to determine which dynamic connections should be used to design the controller. When a structure is selected, connections can be used to configure the controller. For large systems, it is proposed to pre-group the components of the vectors of input and output signals of the actuators and sensitive elements into sets in which the number of variables decreases significantly in order to select a control structure. A quantitative estimation of the decentralization of the control system based on minimizing the sum of the off-diagonal elements of the PM matrix is given. An example of estimation the measure of interaction between components of strong coupled subsystems and the measure of interaction between components of weak coupled subsystems is given. A quantitative estimation is given of neglecting the interaction of components of weak coupled subsystems. The construction of a weighted graph for visualizing the interaction of the subsystems of a complex system is considered. A method for the formation of the controllability gramian on the vector of output signals that is invariant to state vector transformations is proposed in the paper. An example of the decomposition of the stabilization system of the components of the flying vehicle angular velocity vector is given. The estimation of measures of the mutual influence of processes in the channels of control systems makes it possible to increase the reliability of the systems when accounting for the use of analytical redundancy of information from various devices, which reduces the mass and energy consumption. Methods for assessing measures of the interaction of processes in subsystems of control systems can be used in the design of complex systems, for example, motion control systems, orientation and stabilization systems of vehicles.

Improvement of the paired comparison method for implementation in computer programs used in assessment of technical systems’ quality
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 6, pp. 1125-1135

The article describes an improved paired comparison method, which systematizes in tables the rules of logical conclusions and formulas of checking indices for comparison of technical systems. To achieve this goal, the authors formulate rational rules of logical conclusions in making a paired comparison of the systems. In addition, for the purpose of consistency check of the results of the assessment, the authors introduce parameters such as «the number of scores gained by one system» and «systems’ quality index»; moreover, they design corresponding calculation formulas. For the purposes of practical application of this method to design computer programs, the authors propose to use formalized variants of interconnected tables: a table for processing and systematization of expert information, a table of possible logical conclusions based on the results of comparison of a set number of technical systems and a table of check values in the paired comparison method used in quality assessment of a definite number of technical systems. These tables allow one to organize procedures of the information processing in a more rational way and to predominantly exclude the influence of mistakes on the results of quality assessment of technical systems at the stage of data input. The main positive effect from the implementation of the paired comparison method is observed in a considerable reduction of time and resources needed to organize experts work, process expert information, and to prepare and conduct distant interviews with experts (on the Internet or a local computer network of an organization). This effect is achieved by a rational use of input data of the quality of the systems to be assessed. The proposed method is applied to computer programs used in assessing the effectiveness and stability of large technical systems.

Movement of sediment over periodic bed
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 1, pp. 47-60

The movement of bed load along the closed conduit can lead to a loss of stability of the bed surface, when bed waves arise at the bed of the channel. Investigation of the development of bed waves is associated with the possibility of determining of the bed load nature along the bed of the periodic form. Despite the great attention of many researchers to this problem, the question of the development of bed waves remains open at the present time. This is due to the fact that in the analysis of this process many researchers use phenomenological formulas for sediment transport in their work. The results obtained in such models allow only assess qualitatly the development of bed waves. For this reason, it is of interest to carry out an analysis of the development of bed waves using the analytical model for sediment transport.

The paper proposed two-dimensional profile mathematical riverbed model, which allows to investigate the movement of sediment over a periodic bed. A feature of the mathematical model is the possibility of calculating the bed load transport according to an analytical model with the Coulomb–Prandtl rheology, which takes into account the influence of bottom surface slopes, bed normal and tangential stresses on the movement of bed material. It is shown that when the bed material moves along the bed of periodic form, the diffusion and pressure transport of bed load are multidirectional and dominant with respect to the transit flow. Influence of the effects of changes in wave shape on the contribution of transit, diffusion and pressure transport to the total sediment transport has been studied. Comparison of the received results with numerical solutions of the other authors has shown their good qualitative initiation.

Buckling problems of thin elastic shells
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 6, pp. 775-787

The article covers several mathematical problems relating to elastic stability of thin shells in view of inconsistencies that have been recently identified between the experimental data and the predictions based on the shallow- shell theory. It is highlighted that the contradictions were caused by new algorithms that enabled updating the values of the so called “low critical stresses” calculated in the 20th century and adopted as a buckling criterion for thin shallow shells by technical standards. The new calculations often find the low critical stress close to zero. Therefore, the low critical stress cannot be used as a safety factor for the buckling analysis of the thinwalled structure, and the equations of the shallow-shell theory need to be replaced with other differential equations. The new theory also requires a buckling criterion ensuring the match between calculations and experimental data.

The article demonstrates that the contradiction with the new experiments can be resolved within the dynamic nonlinear three-dimensional theory of elasticity. The stress when bifurcation of dynamic modes occurs shall be taken as a buckling criterion. The nonlinear form of original equations causes solitary (solitonic) waves that match non-smooth displacements (patterns, dents) of the shells. It is essential that the solitons make an impact at all stages of loading and significantly increase closer to bifurcation. The solitonic solutions are illustrated based on the thin cylindrical momentless shell when its three-dimensional volume is simulated with twodimensional surface of the set thickness. It is noted that the pattern-generating waves can be detected (and their amplitudes can by identified) with acoustic or electromagnetic devices.

Thus, it is technically possible to reduce the risk of failure of the thin shells by monitoring the shape of the surface with acoustic devices. The article concludes with a setting of the mathematical problems requiring the solution for the reliable numerical assessment of the buckling criterion for thin elastic shells.

Quantitative assessment of seismic risk and energy concepts of earthquake engineering
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 1, pp. 61-76

Currently, earthquake-resistant design of buildings based on the power calculation and presentation of effect of the earthquake static equivalent forces, which are calculated using elastic response spectra (linear-spectral method) that connects the law of motion of the soil with the absolute acceleration of the model in a nonlinear oscillator.

This approach does not directly take into account either the influence of the duration of strong motion or the plastic behavior of the structure. Frequency content and duration of ground vibrations directly affect the energy received by the building and causing damage to its elements. Unlike power or kinematic calculation of the seismic effect on the structure can be interpreted without considering separately the forces and displacements and to provide, as the product of both variables, i.e., the work or input energy (maximum energy that can be purchased building to the earthquake).

With the energy approach of seismic design, it is necessary to evaluate the input seismic energy in the structure and its distribution among various structural components.

The article provides substantiation of the energy approach in the design of earthquake-resistant buildings and structures instead of the currently used method based on the power calculation and presentation of effect of the earthquake static equivalent forces, which are calculated using spectra of the reaction.

Noted that interest in the use of energy concepts in earthquake-resistant design began with the works of Housner, which provided the seismic force in the form of the input seismic energy, using the range of speeds, and suggested that the damage in elastic-plastic system and elastic system causes one and the same input seismic energy.

The indices of the determination of the input energy of the earthquake, proposed by various authors, are given in this paper. It is shown that modern approaches to ensuring seismic stability of structures, based on the representation of the earthquake effect as a static equivalent force, do not adequately describe the behavior of the system during an earthquake.

In this paper, based on quantitative estimates of seismic risk analyzes developed in the NRU MSUCE Standard Organization (STO) “Seismic resistance structures. The main design provisions”. In the developed document a step forward with respect to the optimal design of earthquake-resistant structures.

The proposed concept of using the achievements of modern methods of calculation of buildings and structures on seismic effects, which are harmonized with the Eurocodes and are not contrary to the system of national regulations.

On quality of object tracking algorithms
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2012, v. 4, no. 2, pp. 303-313

Object movement on a video is classified on the regular (object movement on continuous trajectory) and non-regular (trajectory breaks due to object occlusions by other objects, object jumps and others). In the case of regular object movement a tracker is considered as a dynamical system that enables to use conditions of existence, uniqueness, and stability of the dynamical system solution. This condition is used as the correctness criterion of the tracking process. Also, quantitative criterion for correct mean-shift tracking assessment based on the Lipchitz condition is suggested. Results are generalized for arbitrary tracker.

Propagation of Rayleigh waves at oblique impact of the meteorite about the earth’s surface and their effects on buildings and structures
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2013, v. 5, no. 6, pp. 981-992

In this paper the dynamic elasticity problem of the simultaneous normal and tangential impact on the half-space is solved. This problem simulates the oblique incidence of meteorite on the Earth’s surface. The surface Rayleigh wave is investigated. The resulting solution is used as an external effect on the high-rise building, located at some distance from the spot of falling for the safety and stability assessment of its structure. Numerical experiments were made based on the finite element software package STARK ES. Upper floors amplitudes of the selected object were calculated under such dynamic effects. Also a systematic comparison with the results at the foundation vibrations, relevant to  standard a 8-point earthquake accelerograms, was made.

Assessment of the elite–people interaction in post-soviet countries using the Bayesian approach
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 6, pp. 1233-1247

A previously developed model that describes the dynamics of social tension in a society divided into two groups: the elite and the people was considered. This model took into account the impact of economic situation changes and the elite–people interaction. The model has been modified by including in the equation describing the tension of the people, a term that takes into account the adaptation of the people to the current situation.

The model coefficients estimation is an important task, the solution of which allows obtaining information about the nature of the interaction between elite and people. We believe that the solution of the system of model equations with optimal coefficients is closest to the values of the indicator characterizing social tension. We used the normalized level of homicide rate as an indicator of social tension.

The model contains seven coefficients. Two coefficients characterizing the influence of economic situation changes on elite and people are taken equal to each other and the same for all countries. We obtained their estimations using a simplified model that takes into account only the change in the economic situation and allows an analytical solution.

The Bayesian approach was used to estimate the remaining five coefficients of model for post-Soviet countries. The prior probability densities of the four coefficients for all countries under consideration were taken to be the same. The prior probability density of fifth coefficient was considered to depend on the regime of government (authoritarian or «transitional»). We assumed that the calculated tension matches with the corresponding indicator of tension in cases where the difference between them does not exceed 5%.

The calculations showed that for the post-Soviet countries, a good coincidence was obtained between the calculated values of the people tension and the normalized level of homicide rate. The coincidence is satisfactory only on average.

The following main results was obtained at the work: under the influence of some «significant» events in 40% of post-Soviet countries, there was a rapid change in the nature of interaction between the elite and the people; regional feature have some influence on the elite–people interaction; the type of government does not significantly affect the elite–people interaction; the method for assessing the stability of the country by the value of the model coefficients is proposed.

Methodological approach to modeling and forecasting the impact of the spatial heterogeneity of the COVID-19 spread on the economic development of Russian regions
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 3, pp. 629-648

The article deals with the development of a methodological approach to forecasting and modeling the socioeconomic consequences of viral epidemics in conditions of heterogeneous economic development of territorial systems. The relevance of the research stems from the need for rapid mechanisms of public management and stabilization of adverse epidemiological situation, taking into account the spatial heterogeneity of the spread of COVID-19, accompanied by a concentration of infection in large metropolitan areas and territories with high economic activity. The aim of the work is to substantiate a methodology to assess the spatial heterogeneity of the spread of coronavirus infection, find poles of its growth, emerging spatial clusters and zones of their influence with the assessment of inter-territorial relationships, as well as simulate the effects of worsening epidemiological situation on the dynamics of economic development of regional systems. The peculiarity of the developed approach is the spatial clustering of regional systems by the level of COVID-19 incidence, conducted using global and local spatial autocorrelation indices, various spatial weight matrices, and L.Anselin mutual influence matrix based on the statistical information of the Russian Federal State Statistics Service. The study revealed a spatial cluster characterized by high levels of infection with COVID-19 with a strong zone of influence and stable interregional relationships with surrounding regions, as well as formed growth poles which are potential poles of further spread of coronavirus infection. Regression analysis using panel data not only confirmed the impact of COVID-19 incidence on the average number of employees in enterprises, the level of average monthly nominal wages, but also allowed to form a model for scenario prediction of the consequences of the spread of coronavirus infection. The results of this study can be used to form mechanisms to contain the coronavirus infection and stabilize socio-economic at macroeconomic and regional level and restore the economy of territorial systems, depending on the depth of the spread of infection and the level of economic damage caused.

Semantic structuring of text documents based on patterns of natural language entities
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 5, pp. 1185-1197

The technology of creating patterns from natural language words (concepts) based on text data in the bag of words model is considered. Patterns are used to reduce the dimension of the original space in the description of documents and search for semantically related words by topic. The process of dimensionality reduction is implemented through the formation of patterns of latent features. The variety of structures of document relations is investigated in order to divide them into themes in the latent space.

It is considered that a given set of documents (objects) is divided into two non-overlapping classes, for the analysis of which it is necessary to use a common dictionary. The belonging of words to a common vocabulary is initially unknown. Class objects are considered as opposition to each other. Quantitative parameters of oppositionality are determined through the values of the stability of each feature and generalized assessments of objects according to non-overlapping sets of features.

To calculate the stability, the feature values are divided into non-intersecting intervals, the optimal boundaries of which are determined by a special criterion. The maximum stability is achieved under the condition that the boundaries of each interval contain values of one of the two classes.

The composition of features in sets (patterns of words) is formed from a sequence ordered by stability values. The process of formation of patterns and latent features based on them is implemented according to the rules of hierarchical agglomerative grouping.

A set of latent features is used for cluster analysis of documents using metric grouping algorithms. The analysis applies the coefficient of content authenticity based on the data on the belonging of documents to classes. The coefficient is a numerical characteristic of the dominance of class representatives in groups.

To divide documents into topics, it is proposed to use the union of groups in relation to their centers. As patterns for each topic, a sequence of words ordered by frequency of occurrence from a common dictionary is considered.

The results of a computational experiment on collections of abstracts of scientific dissertations are presented. Sequences of words from the general dictionary on 4 topics are formed.
