On the modification of the method of component descent for solving some inverse problems of mathematical physics
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 2, pp. 301-316

The article is devoted to solving ill-posed problems of mathematical physics for elliptic and parabolic equations, such as the Cauchy problem for the Helmholtz equation and the retrospective Cauchy problem for the heat equation with constant coefficients. These problems are reduced to problems of convex optimization in Hilbert space. The gradients of the corresponding functionals are calculated approximately by solving two well-posed problems. A new method is proposed for solving the optimization problems under study, it is component-by-component descent in the basis of eigenfunctions of a self-adjoint operator associated with the problem. If it was possible to calculate the gradient exactly, this method would give an arbitrarily exact solution of the problem, depending on the number of considered elements of the basis. In real cases, the inaccuracy of calculations leads to a violation of monotonicity, which requires the use of restarts and limits the achievable quality. The paper presents the results of experiments confirming the effectiveness of the constructed method. It is determined that the new approach is superior to approaches based on the use of gradient optimization methods: it allows to achieve better quality of solution with significantly less computational resources. It is assumed that the constructed method can be generalized to other problems.

Homogenized model of two-phase capillary-nonequilibrium flows in a medium with double porosity
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 3, pp. 567-580

A mathematical model of two-phase capillary-nonequilibrium isothermal flows of incompressible phases in a double porosity medium is constructed. A double porosity medium is considered, which is a composition of two porous media with contrasting capillary properties (absolute permeability, capillary pressure). One of the constituent media has high permeability and is conductive, the second is characterized by low permeability and forms an disconnected system of matrix blocks. A feature of the model is to take into account the influence of capillary nonequilibrium on mass transfer between subsystems of double porosity, while the nonequilibrium properties of two-phase flow in the constituent media are described in a linear approximation within the Hassanizadeh model. Homogenization by the method of formal asymptotic expansions leads to a system of partial differential equations, the coefficients of which depend on internal variables determined from the solution of cell problems. Numerical solution of cell problems for a system of partial differential equations is computationally expensive. Therefore, a thermodynamically consistent kinetic equation is formulated for the internal parameter characterizing the phase distribution between the subsystems of double porosity. Dynamic relative phase permeability and capillary pressure in the processes of drainage and impregnation are constructed. It is shown that the capillary nonequilibrium of flows in the constituent subsystems has a strong influence on them. Thus, the analysis and modeling of this factor is important in transfer problems in systems with double porosity.

Numerical study of high-speed mixing layers based on a two-fluid turbulence model
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 5, pp. 1125-1142

This work is devoted to the numerical study of high-speed mixing layers of compressible flows. The problem under consideration has a wide range of applications in practical tasks and, despite its apparent simplicity, is quite complex in terms of modeling. Because in the mixing layer, as a result of the instability of the tangential discontinuity of velocities, the flow passes from laminar flow to turbulent mode. Therefore, the obtained numerical results of the considered problem strongly depend on the adequacy of the used turbulence models. In the presented work, this problem is studied based on the two-fluid approach to the problem of turbulence. This approach has arisen relatively recently and is developing quite rapidly. The main advantage of the two-fluid approach is that it leads to a closed system of equations, when, as is known, the long-standing Reynolds approach leads to an open system of equations. The paper presents the essence of the two-fluid approach for modeling a turbulent compressible medium and the methodology for numerical implementation of the proposed model. To obtain a stationary solution, the relaxation method and Prandtl boundary layer theory were applied, resulting in a simplified system of equations. In the considered problem, high-speed flows are mixed. Therefore, it is also necessary to model heat transfer, and the pressure cannot be considered constant, as is done for incompressible flows. In the numerical implementation, the convective terms in the hydrodynamic equations were approximated by the upwind scheme with the second order of accuracy in explicit form, and the diffusion terms in the right-hand sides of the equations were approximated by the central difference in implicit form. The sweep method was used to implement the obtained equations. The SIMPLE method was used to correct the velocity through the pressure. The paper investigates a two-liquid turbulence model with different initial flow turbulence intensities. The obtained numerical results showed that good agreement with the known experimental data is observed at the inlet turbulence intensity of $0.1 < I < 1 \%$. Data from known experiments, as well as the results of the $k − kL + J$ and LES models, are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed turbulence model. It is demonstrated that the two-liquid model is as accurate as known modern models and more efficient in terms of computing resources.

Approximate solution to one model of axisymmetric turbulent wake
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 4, pp. 823-836

In this paper we consider the problem of modeling of flow in the far regions of an axisymmetric momentumless turbulent wake that occurs when a body is flowed. The main features of the studied flow are its almost shear-free nature and its proximity to the self-similar regime, which is confirmed by the available experimental data. A semi-empirical $e-\varepsilon$ model of turbulence based on the Rodi algebraic model of Reynolds stresses is invoked to describe a flow in the far wake. Using group-theoretic analysis, similarity reduction of the invoked model of turbulence to a system of ordinary differential equations is obtained. An approximate self-similar solution of the second kind of the corresponding boundary value problem for the reduced system of equations was constructed using a method based on matching the truncations of asymptotic expansions of its solution found in neighborhoods of the boundary points. The involved approach also allowed for the extraction of an approximate value of the self-similarity exponent and other unknown parameters of the problem during the procedure of matching of the asymptotic expansion. Comparison of the approximate solution of the given boundary value problem constructed in the form of Puiseux series, which includes 16 approximating terms, with the numerical solution found using the shooting method, showed that the maximum relative error between the solutions does not exceed 2%. The approximate value of the self-similarity exponent of the problem established in this work is in a good agreement with the exact value obtained earlier by other authors as a result of the analytical solution of the corresponding nonlinear eigenvalue problem. The approximate solution was compared with the available experimental data on the axisymmetric momentumless turbulent wake obtained at the Lavrentyev Institute of Hydrodynamics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and a satisfactory agreement was found. The approximate formulas developed in this work have practical significance and can be used for quick estimation of the values of hydrodynamic quantities in the far regions of the axisymmetric momentumless turbulent wake. The developed method for constructing approximate solutions to the boundary value problems of free turbulence can also be used in other applied fields that are not related to turbulence theory.

Numerical analyses of singularity in the integral equation of theory of liquids in the RISM approximation
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2010, v. 2, no. 1, pp. 51-62

An approach to evaluation of a parametric portrait of integral equations of the theory of liquids in the RISM approximation was proposed. To obtain all associated solutions the continuation method was used. The equations reduced to a two-centered molecule model for symmetry reasons were deduced for molecular liquids. For molecular liquids, some equations were obtained which could be reduced, for symmetry reasons, to a two-center molecular model. To avoid critical points we changed the dependence of RISM-equations on reverse compressibility. The suggested method was used to perform numerical computations of methane reverse compressibility isotherms with three closures. No bifurcation of solutions was observed in the case of the partially linearized hypernetted chain closure. For other closures bifurcations of solutions were obtained and the model behavior nontypical for simple liquids was observed. In the case of Percus-Yevick closure nonphysical solutions were obtained at low temperature and density. Additional solution branch with a kink in the bifurcation point was obtained in the case of hypernetted chain closure at temperature above the critical point.

NINE: computer code for numerical solution of the boundary problems for nonlinear differential equations on the basis of CANM
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2012, v. 4, no. 2, pp. 315-324

The computer code NINE (Newtonian Iteration for Nonlinear Equation) for numerical solution of the boundary problems for nonlinear differential equations on the basis of continuous analogue of the Newton method (CANM) is presented. Numerov’s finite-difference appproximation is applied to provide the fourth accuracy order with respect to the discretization stepsize. Algorithms of calculating the Newtonian iterative parameter are discussed. A convergence of iteration process in dependence on choice of the iteration parameter has been studied. Results of numerical investigation of the particle-like solutions of the scalar field equation are given.

Game-theoretic model of coordinations of interests at innovative development of corporations
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 4, pp. 673-684

Dynamic game theoretic models of the corporative innovative development are investigated. The proposed models are based on concordance of private and public interests of agents. It is supposed that the structure of interests of each agent includes both private (personal interests) and public (interests of the whole company connected with its innovative development first) components. The agents allocate their personal resources between these two directions. The system dynamics is described by a difference (not differential) equation. The proposed model of innovative development is studied by simulation and the method of enumeration of the domains of feasible controls with a constant step. The main contribution of the paper consists in comparative analysis of efficiency of the methods of hierarchical control (compulsion or impulsion) for information structures of Stackelberg or Germeier (four structures) by means of the indices of system compatibility. The proposed model is a universal one and can be used for a scientifically grounded support of the programs of innovative development of any economic firm. The features of a specific company are considered in the process of model identification (a determination of the specific classes of model functions and numerical values of its parameters) which forms a separate complex problem and requires an analysis of the statistical data and expert estimations. The following assumptions about information rules of the hierarchical game are accepted: all players use open-loop strategies; the leader chooses and reports to the followers some values of administrative (compulsion) or economic (impulsion) control variables which can be only functions of time (Stackelberg games) or depend also on the followers’ controls (Germeier games); given the leader’s strategies all followers simultaneously and independently choose their strategies that gives a Nash equilibrium in the followers’ game. For a finite number of iterations the proposed algorithm of simulation modeling allows to build an approximate solution of the model or to conclude that it doesn’t exist. A reliability and efficiency of the proposed algorithm follow from the properties of the scenario method and the method of a direct ordered enumeration with a constant step. Some comprehensive conclusions about the comparative efficiency of methods of hierarchical control of innovations are received.

Analysis of point model of fibrin polymerization
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 2, pp. 247-258

Functional modeling of blood clotting and fibrin-polymer mesh formation is of a significant value for medical and biophysics applications. Despite the fact of some discrepancies present in simplified functional models their results are of the great interest for the experimental science as a handy tool of the analysis for research planning, data processing and verification. Under conditions of the good correspondence to the experiment functional models can be used as an element of the medical treatment methods and biophysical technologies. The aim of the paper in hand is a modeling of a point system of the fibrin-polymer formation as a multistage polymerization process with a sol-gel transition at the final stage. Complex-value Rosenbroke method of second order (CROS) used for computational experiments. The results of computational experiments are presented and discussed. It was shown that in the physiological range of the model coefficients there is a lag period of approximately 20 seconds between initiation of the reaction and fibrin gel appearance which fits well experimental observations of fibrin polymerization dynamics. The possibility of a number of the consequent $(n = 1–3)$ sol-gel transitions demonstrated as well. Such a specific behavior is a consequence of multistage nature of fibrin polymerization process. At the final stage the solution of fibrin oligomers of length 10 can reach a semidilute state, leading to an extremely fast gel formation controlled by oligomers’ rotational diffusion. Otherwise, if the semidilute state is not reached the gel formation is controlled by significantly slower process of translational diffusion. Such a duality in the sol-gel transition led authors to necessity of introduction of a switch-function in an equation for fibrin-polymer formation kinetics. Consequent polymerization events can correspond to experimental systems where fibrin mesh formed gets withdrawn from the volume by some physical process like precipitation. The sensitivity analysis of presented system shows that dependence on the first stage polymerization reaction constant is non-trivial.

Optimal control of the motion in an ideal fluid of a screw-shaped body with internal rotors
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 5, pp. 741-759

In this paper we consider the controlled motion of a helical body with three blades in an ideal fluid, which is executed by rotating three internal rotors. We set the problem of selecting control actions, which ensure the motion of the body near the predetermined trajectory. To determine controls that guarantee motion near the given curve, we propose methods based on the application of hybrid genetic algorithms (genetic algorithms with real encoding and with additional learning of the leader of the population by a gradient method) and artificial neural networks. The correctness of the operation of the proposed numerical methods is estimated using previously obtained differential equations, which define the law of changing the control actions for the predetermined trajectory.

In the approach based on hybrid genetic algorithms, the initial problem of minimizing the integral functional reduces to minimizing the function of many variables. The given time interval is broken up into small elements, on each of which the control actions are approximated by Lagrangian polynomials of order 2 and 3. When appropriately adjusted, the hybrid genetic algorithms reproduce a solution close to exact. However, the cost of calculation of 1 second of the physical process is about 300 seconds of processor time.

To increase the speed of calculation of control actions, we propose an algorithm based on artificial neural networks. As the input signal the neural network takes the components of the required displacement vector. The node values of the Lagrangian polynomials which approximately describe the control actions return as output signals . The neural network is taught by the well-known back-propagation method. The learning sample is generated using the approach based on hybrid genetic algorithms. The calculation of 1 second of the physical process by means of the neural network requires about 0.004 seconds of processor time, that is, 6 orders faster than the hybrid genetic algorithm. The control calculated by means of the artificial neural network differs from exact control. However, in spite of this difference, it ensures that the predetermined trajectory is followed exactly.
