About applying Rayleigh formula based on the Kirchhoff integral equations for the seismic exploration problems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 5, pp. 761-771

In this paper we present Rayleigh formulas obtained from Kirchhoff integral formulas, which can later be used to obtain migration images. The relevance of the studies conducted in the work is due to the widespread use of migration in the interests of seismic oil and gas seismic exploration. A special feature of the work is the use of an elastic approximation to describe the dynamic behaviour of a geological environment, in contrast to the widespread acoustic approximation. The proposed approach will significantly improve the quality of seismic exploration in complex cases, such as permafrost and shelf zones of the southern and northern seas. The complexity of applying a system of equations describing the state of a linear-elastic medium to obtain Rayleigh formulas and algorithms based on them is a significant increase in the number of computations, the mathematical and analytical complexity of the resulting algorithms in comparison with the case of an acoustic medium. Therefore in industrial seismic surveys migration algorithms for the case of elastic waves are not currently used, which creates certain difficulties, since the acoustic approximation describes only longitudinal seismic waves in geological environments. This article presents the final analytical expressions that can be used to develop software systems using the description of elastic seismic waves: longitudinal and transverse, thereby covering the entire range of seismic waves: longitudinal reflected PP-waves, longitudinal reflected SP-waves, transverse reflected PS-waves and transverse reflected SS-waves. Also, the results of comparison of numerical solutions obtained on the basis of Rayleigh formulas with numerical solutions obtained by the grid-characteristic method are presented. The value of this comparison is due to the fact that the method based on Rayleigh integrals is based on analytical expressions, while the grid-characteristic method is a method of numerical integration of solutions based on a calculated grid. In the comparison, different types of sources were considered: a point source model widely used in marine and terrestrial seismic surveying and a flat wave model, which is also sometimes used in field studies.

Simulation of interprocessor interactions for MPI-applications in the cloud infrastructure
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 6, pp. 955-963

А new cloud center of parallel computing is to be created in the Laboratory of Information Technologies (LIT) of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research JINR) what is expected to improve significantly the efficiency of numerical calculations and expedite the receipt of new physically meaningful results due to the more rational use of computing resources. To optimize a scheme of parallel computations at a cloud environment it is necessary to test this scheme for various combinations of equipment parameters (processor speed and numbers, throughput оf а communication network etc). As a test problem, the parallel MPI algorithm for calculations of the long Josephson junctions (LDJ) is chosen. Problems of evaluating the impact of abovementioned factors of computing mean on the computing speed of the test problem are solved by simulation with the simulation program SyMSim developed in LIT.

The simulation of the LDJ calculations in the cloud environment enable users without a series of test to find the optimal number of CPUs with a certain type of network run the calculations in a real computer environment. This can save significant computational time in countable resources. The main parameters of the model were obtained from the results of the computational experiment conducted on a special cloud-based testbed. Computational experiments showed that the pure computation time decreases in inverse proportion to the number of processors, but depends significantly on network bandwidth. Comparison of results obtained empirically with the results of simulation showed that the simulation model correctly simulates the parallel calculations performed using the MPI-technology. Besides it confirms our recommendation: for fast calculations of this type it is needed to increase both, — the number of CPUs and the network throughput at the same time. The simulation results allow also to invent an empirical analytical formula expressing the dependence of calculation time by the number of processors for a fixed system configuration. The obtained formula can be applied to other similar studies, but requires additional tests to determine the values of variables.

Application of computational simulation techniques for designing swim-out release systems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 3, pp. 597-606

The article describes the basic approaches of the calculation procedure of payload swim-out (objects of different function with own propulsor) from the underwater carrier a method of a self-exit using modern CFD technologies. It contains the description of swim-out by a self-exit method, its advantages and disadvantages. Also it contains results of research of convergence on a grid of a final-volume model with accuracy-time criterion, and results of comparison of calculation with experiment (validation of models). Validation of models was carried out using the available data of experimental definition of traction characteristics of water-jet propulsor of the natural sample in the development pool. Calculations of traction characteristics of water-jet propulsor were carried out via software package FlowVision ver. 3.10. On the basis of comparison of results of calculations for conditions of carrying out of experiments the error of water-jet propulsor calculated model which has made no more than 5% in a range of advance coefficient water-jet propulsor, realised in the process of swim-out by a selfexit method has been defined. The received value of an error of calculation of traction characteristics is used for definition of limiting settlement values of speed of branch of object from the carrier (the minimum and maximum values). The considered problem is significant from the scientific point of view thanks to features of the approach to modelling hydrojet moving system together with movement of separated object, and also from the practical point of view, thanks to possibility of reception with high degree of reliability of parametres swim-out of objects from sea bed vehicles a method of the self-exit which working conditions are assumed by movement in the closed volumes, already on a design stage.

Comparative analysis of human adaptation to the growth of visual information in the tasks of recognizing formal symbols and meaningful images
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 3, pp. 571-586

We describe an engineering-psychological experiment that continues the study of ways to adapt a person to the increasing complexity of logical problems by presenting a series of problems of increasing complexity, which is determined by the volume of initial data. Tasks require calculations in an associative or non-associative system of operations. By the nature of the change in the time of solving the problem, depending on the number of necessary operations, we can conclude that a purely sequential method of solving problems or connecting additional brain resources to the solution in parallel mode. In a previously published experimental work, a person in the process of solving an associative problem recognized color images with meaningful images. In the new study, a similar problem is solved for abstract monochrome geometric shapes. Analysis of the result showed that for the second case, the probability of the subject switching to a parallel method of processing visual information is significantly reduced. The research method is based on presenting a person with two types of tasks. One type of problem contains associative calculations and allows a parallel solution algorithm. Another type of problem is the control one, which contains problems in which calculations are not associative and parallel algorithms are ineffective. The task of recognizing and searching for a given object is associative. A parallel strategy significantly speeds up the solution with relatively small additional resources. As a control series of problems (to separate parallel work from the acceleration of a sequential algorithm), we use, as in the previous experiment, a non-associative comparison problem in cyclic arithmetic, presented in the visual form of the game “rock, paper, scissors”. In this problem, the parallel algorithm requires a large number of processors with a small efficiency coefficient. Therefore, the transition of a person to a parallel algorithm for solving this problem is almost impossible, and the acceleration of processing input information is possible only by increasing the speed. Comparing the dependence of the solution time on the volume of source data for two types of problems allows us to identify four types of strategies for adapting to the increasing complexity of the problem: uniform sequential, accelerated sequential, parallel computing (where possible), or undefined (for this method) strategy. The Reducing of the number of subjects, who switch to a parallel strategy when encoding input information with formal images, shows the effectiveness of codes that cause subject associations. They increase the speed of human perception and processing of information. The article contains a preliminary mathematical model that explains this phenomenon. It is based on the appearance of a second set of initial data, which occurs in a person as a result of recognizing the depicted objects.

A study of nonlinear processes at the interface between gas flow and the metal wall of a microchannel
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 4, pp. 781-794

The work is devoted to the study of the influence of nonlinear processes in the boundary layer on the general nature of gas flows in microchannels of technical systems. Such a study is actually concerned with nanotechnology problems. One of the important problems in this area is the analysis of gas flows in microchannels in the case of transient and supersonic flows. The results of this analysis are important for the gas-dynamic spraying techique and for the synthesis of new nanomaterials. Due to the complexity of the implementation of full-scale experiments on micro- and nanoscale, they are most often replaced by computer simulations. The efficiency of computer simulations is achieved by both the use of new multiscale models and the combination of mesh and particle methods. In this work, we use the molecular dynamics method. It is applied to study the establishment of a gas microflow in a metal channel. Nitrogen was chosen as the gaseous medium. The metal walls of the microchannels consisted of nickel atoms. In numerical experiments, the accommodation coefficients were calculated at the boundary between the gas flow and the metal wall. The study of the microsystem in the boundary layer made it possible to form a multicomponent macroscopic model of the boundary conditions. This model was integrated into the macroscopic description of the flow based on a system of quasi-gas-dynamic equations. On the basis of such a transformed gas-dynamic model, calculations of microflow in real microsystem were carried out. The results were compared with the classical calculation of the flow, which does not take into account nonlinear processes in the boundary layer. The comparison showed the need to use the developed model of boundary conditions and its integration with the classical gas-dynamic approach.

Multifractal and entropy statistics of seismic noise in Kamchatka in connection with the strongest earthquakes
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 6, pp. 1507-1521

The study of the properties of seismic noise in Kamchatka is based on the idea that noise is an important source of information about the processes preceding strong earthquakes. The hypothesis is considered that an increase in seismic hazard is accompanied by a simplification of the statistical structure of seismic noise and an increase in spatial correlations of its properties. The entropy of the distribution of squared wavelet coefficients, the width of the carrier of the multifractal singularity spectrum, and the Donoho – Johnstone index were used as statistics characterizing noise. The values of these parameters reflect the complexity: if a random signal is close in its properties to white noise, then the entropy is maximum, and the other two parameters are minimum. The statistics used are calculated for 6 station clusters. For each station cluster, daily median noise properties are calculated in successive 1-day time windows, resulting in an 18-dimensional (3 properties and 6 station clusters) time series of properties. To highlight the general properties of changes in noise parameters, a principal component method is used, which is applied for each cluster of stations, as a result of which the information is compressed into a 6-dimensional daily time series of principal components. Spatial noise coherences are estimated as a set of maximum pairwise quadratic coherence spectra between the principal components of station clusters in a sliding time window of 365 days. By calculating histograms of the distribution of cluster numbers in which the minimum and maximum values of noise statistics are achieved in a sliding time window of 365 days in length, the migration of seismic hazard areas was assessed in comparison with strong earthquakes with a magnitude of at least 7.

Analysis of the physics-informed neural network approach to solving ordinary differential equations
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 7, pp. 1621-1636

Considered the application of physics-informed neural networks using multi layer perceptrons to solve Cauchy initial value problems in which the right-hand sides of the equation are continuous monotonically increasing, decreasing or oscillating functions. With the use of the computational experiments the influence of the construction of the approximate neural network solution, neural network structure, optimization algorithm and software implementation means on the learning process and the accuracy of the obtained solution is studied. The analysis of the efficiency of the most frequently used machine learning frameworks in software development with the programming languages Python and C# is carried out. It is shown that the use of C# language allows to reduce the time of neural networks training by 20–40%. The choice of different activation functions affects the learning process and the accuracy of the approximate solution. The most effective functions in the considered problems are sigmoid and hyperbolic tangent. The minimum of the loss function is achieved at the certain number of neurons of the hidden layer of a single-layer neural network for a fixed training time of the neural network model. It’s also mentioned that the complication of the network structure increasing the number of neurons does not improve the training results. At the same time, the size of the grid step between the points of the training sample, providing a minimum of the loss function, is almost the same for the considered Cauchy problems. Training single-layer neural networks, the Adam method and its modifications are the most effective to solve the optimization problems. Additionally, the application of twoand three-layer neural networks is considered. It is shown that in these cases it is reasonable to use the LBFGS algorithm, which, in comparison with the Adam method, in some cases requires much shorter training time achieving the same solution accuracy. The specificity of neural network training for Cauchy problems in which the solution is an oscillating function with monotonically decreasing amplitude is also investigated. For these problems, it is necessary to construct a neural network solution with variable weight coefficient rather than with constant one, which improves the solution in the grid cells located near by the end point of the solution interval.

  8. In this study the calculation of 1/2-wave transducer of longitudinal ultrasonic oscillations and one wave transducer of longitudinal-torsion ultrasonic oscillations were carried out by finite element method with use of Abaqus. Dimensions of the concentrator of longitudinal-torsional oscillations and frequency-amplitude characteristics of the transducers of longitudinal and longitudinal-torsional oscillations were defined by calculation. Application of ultrasonic longitudinal-torsional oscillations at tool during surface-strengthening treatment of details made of titanium will allow to reduce adhesion portion of friction in the contact zone. A comparison of results of finite-element calculation of frequency-amplitude characteristics with experimental ones were made and calculation error does not exceed 2.5 %.

On some properties of short-wave statistics of FOREX time series
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 4, pp. 657-669

Financial mathematics is one of the most natural applications for the statistical analysis of time series. Financial time series reflect simultaneous activity of a large number of different economic agents. Consequently, one expects that methods of statistical physics and the theory of random processes can be applied to them.

In this paper, we provide a statistical analysis of time series of the FOREX currency market. Of particular interest is the comparison of the time series behavior depending on the way time is measured: physical time versus trading time measured in the number of elementary price changes (ticks). The experimentally observed statistics of the time series under consideration (euro–dollar for the first half of 2007 and for 2009 and British pound – dollar for 2007) radically differs depending on the choice of the method of time measurement. When measuring time in ticks, the distribution of price increments can be well described by the normal distribution already on a scale of the order of ten ticks. At the same time, when price increments are measured in real physical time, the distribution of increments continues to differ radically from the normal up to scales of the order of minutes and even hours.

To explain this phenomenon, we investigate the statistical properties of elementary increments in price and time. In particular, we show that the distribution of time between ticks for all three time series has a long (1-2 orders of magnitude) power-law tails with exponential cutoff at large times. We obtained approximate expressions for the distributions of waiting times for all three cases. Other statistical characteristics of the time series (the distribution of elementary price changes, pair correlation functions for price increments and for waiting times) demonstrate fairly simple behavior. Thus, it is the anomalously wide distribution of the waiting times that plays the most important role in the deviation of the distribution of increments from the normal. As a result, we discuss the possibility of applying a continuous time random walk (CTRW) model to describe the FOREX time series.

Numerical simulation of the process of activation of the safety valve
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 4, pp. 495-509

The conjugate problem of disk movement into gas-filled volume of the spring-type safety valve is solved. The questions of determining the physically correct value of the disk initial lift are considered. The review of existing approaches and methods for solving of such type problems is conducted. The formulation of the problem about the valve actuation when the vessel pressure rises and the mathematical model of the actuation processes are given. A special attention to the binding of physical subtasks is paid. Used methods, numerical schemes and algorithms are described. The mathematical modeling is performed on basе the fundamental system of differential equations for viscous gas movement with the equation for displacement of disk valve. The solution of this problem in the axe symmetric statement is carried out numerically using the finite volume method. The results obtained by the viscous and inviscid models are compared. In an inviscid formulation this problem is solved using the Godunov scheme, and in a viscous formulation is solved using the Kurganov – Tadmor method. The dependence of the disk displacement on time was obtained and compared with the experimental data. The pressure distribution on the disk surface, velocity profiles in the cross sections of the gap for different disk heights are given. It is shown that a value of initial drive lift it does not affect on the gas flow and valve movement part dynamic. It can significantly reduce the calculation time of the full cycle of valve work. Immediate isotahs for various elevations of the disk are presented. The comparison of jet flow over critical section is given. The data carried out by two numerical experiments are well correlated with each other. So, the inviscid model can be applied to the numerical modeling of the safety valve dynamic.
