Method for processing acoustic emission testing data to define signal velocity and location
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 5, pp. 1029-1040

Non-destructive acoustic emission testing is an effective and cost-efficient way to examine pressure vessels for hidden defects (cracks, laminations etc.), as well as the only method that is sensitive to developing defects. The sound velocity in the test object and its adequate definition in the location scheme are of paramount importance for the accurate detection of the acoustic emission source. The acoustic emission data processing method proposed herein comprises a set of numerical methods and allows defining the source coordinates and the most probable velocity for each signal. The method includes pre-filtering of data by amplitude, by time differences, elimination of electromagnetic interference. Further, a set of numerical methods is applied to them to solve the system of nonlinear equations, in particular, the Newton – Kantorovich method and the general iterative process. The velocity of a signal from one source is assumed as a constant in all directions. As the initial approximation is taken the center of gravity of the triangle formed by the first three sensors that registered the signal. The method developed has an important practical application, and the paper provides an example of its approbation in the calibration of an acoustic emission system at a production facility (hydrocarbon gas purification absorber). Criteria for prefiltering of data are described. The obtained locations are in good agreement with the signal generation sources, and the velocities even reflect the Rayleigh-Lamb division of acoustic waves due to the different signal source distances from the sensors. The article contains the dependency graph of the average signal velocity against the distance from its source to the nearest sensor. The main advantage of the method developed is its ability to detect the location of different velocity signals within a single test. This allows to increase the degree of freedom in the calculations, and thereby increase their accuracy.

The influence of solar flares on the release of seismic energy
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 4, pp. 567-581

The influence of solar activity on various processes on Earth has long been the subject of close study, which resulted in the appearance of the term “space weather”. The most striking manifestation of solar activity are the so-called “solar flares”, which are explosive releases of energy in the solar atmosphere, resulting in a flow of photons and charged particles reaching the Earth with a slight delay. After two or three days, a plasma flow reaches the Earth. Thus, a solar flare is an event stretched out in time for several days. The impact of solar flares on human health and the technosphere is a popular subject for discussion and scientific research. This article provides a quantitative assessment of the trigger effect of solar flares on the release of energy as a result of seismic events. The article provides an estimate in the form of a “percentage” of the released seismic energy of the trigger effect of solar flares on the release of seismic energy worldwide and in 8 areas of the Pacific Fire Ring. The initial data are a time series of solar flares from July 31, 1996 to the end of 2024. The time points of the greatest local extremes of solar flare intensity and released seismic energy were studied in successive time intervals of 1 day. For each pair of time sequences in sliding time windows, the “lead measures” of each time sequence relative to the other were estimated using a parametric model of the intensity of interacting point processes. The difference between the “direct” lead measure of the time points of local extremes of solar flare intensity relative to the moments of maximum released seismic energy and the “reverse” lead measure was calculated. The average value of the difference in lead measures provides an estimate of the share of the intensity of seismic events for which solar flares are a trigger.

Resource-adaptive approach to structured text data annotation using small language models
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 1, pp. 41-59

This paper presents an experimental study of the application of automatic annotation of text data in the question – answer format (QA pairs) under conditions of limited computing resources and data protection requirements. Unlike traditional approaches based on rigid rules or the use of external APIs, we propose using small language models with a small number of parameters that can function locally without a GPU on standard CPU systems. Two models were selected for testing — Gemma-3-4b and Qwen-2.5-3b (quantized 4-bit versions) — and a corpus of documents with a clear structure and a formally rigorous style of presentation was used as source material. An automatic annotation system was developed that implements the full cycle of QA dataset generation: automatic division of the source document into logically connected fragments, formation of “question – answer” pairs using the Gemma-3-4b model, preliminary verification of their correctness using Qwen-2.5-3b based on evidence span from the context and expert quality assessment. The results are exported in JSONL format. Performance evaluation covers the entire QA pair generation system, including fragment processing by the local language model, text preprocessing and postprocessing modules. Performance is measured by the time it takes to generate a single QA pair, the total throughput of the system, RAM usage, and CPU load, which allows for an objective assessment of the computational efficiency of the proposed approach when running on a CPU. An experiment on an extended sample of 12 documents showed that automatic annotation demonstrates stable performance when processing different types of documents, while manual annotation is characterized by significantly higher time costs and high variability. Depending on the type of document, the acceleration of annotation compared to the manual process ranges from 8 to 14 times. Quality analysis showed that most of the generated QA pairs have high semantic consistency with the original context, with only a limited proportion of data requiring expert correction or exception. Although full manual validation of the corpus (the “gold standard”) was not performed as part of this work, the combination of automatic evaluation and selective expert review allows us to consider the resulting quality level acceptable for preliminary automated annotation tasks. Overall, the results confirm the practical applicability of small language models for building autonomous and reproducible automatic text annotation systems under limited computational resources and provide a basis for further research in the field of effective training corpus preparation for natural language processing tasks.

Identification of the non-stationary coefficient of the lowest derivative in a parabolic equation
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 3, pp. 607-620

This paper presents a non-iterative method for solving an inverse problem for a parabolictype equation with an unknown time-dependent coefficient at the first spatial derivative. The overdetermination condition is specified as a definite integral of the unknown function with a weighting factor over the spatial domain or its subdomain. The study is motivated by the need to identify dynamic parameters in applied problems, particularly in modeling transport processes in biological fluids, where the flow velocity may vary over time. In contrast to conventional iterative methods that require substantial computational effort and careful selection of regularization parameters, an original approach based on solution decomposition is proposed. At each time layer, the solution is represented as a linear combination of solutions to two auxiliary systems with the same matrix and different right-hand sides, followed by the determination of the unknown coefficient from a discrete analogue of the overdetermination condition. This approach eliminates the need for an iterative procedure. In the presence of inexact overdetermination data, the highest reconstruction accuracy is achieved using a quasi-solution. Numerical experiments on test problems demonstrate high accuracy in reconstructing the unknown functions under small perturbations of the overdetermination condition. The results indicate strong potential for applications in medical diagnostics and other fields requiring rapid processing of experimental data.

Discrete-element simulation of a spherical projectile penetration into a massive obstacle
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 1, pp. 71-79

А discrete element model is applied to the problem of a spherical projectile penetration into a massive obstacle. According to the model both indenter and obstacle are described by a set of densely packed particles. To model the interaction between the particles the two-parameter Lennard–Jones potential is used. Computer implementation of the model has been carried out using parallelism on GPUs, which resulted in high spatial — temporal resolution. Based on the comparison of the results of numerical simulation with experimental data the binding energy has been identified as a function of the dynamic hardness of materials. It is shown that the use of this approach allows to accurately describe the penetration process in the range of projectile velocities 500–2500 m/c.

    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 1, pp. 47-55

The results of verification carried out for investigations of hydrodynamic effect on reentry conicalsegmental space vehicle are presented in the paper. The program complex Flow Vision is used for this analysis. The purpose of the study is verification of using Flow Vision program complex for problem solving mentioned above on the base of comparison between calculated and experimental data, obtained on the Apollo landing models and new development reentry spacecraft of manned transporting spaceship designed by RSC Energia. The comparison was carried out through the data of pressure values on spacecraft model surfaces during its water landing and inertia center motion parameters.

The results of study show good agreement between experimental and calculated data of force effects on vehicle construction during water landing and its motion parameters in the water medium. Computer simulation sufficiently well reproduces influence of initial velocities & water entry angles variations on water landing process.

Using of computer simulation provides simultaneous acquisition of all data information needed for investigation of water landing peculiarities during construction design, notably, hydrodynamic effects for structural strength calculations, parameters and dynamics of center mass motion and vehicle revolution around center mass for estimation water landing conditions, as well as vehicle stability after landing.

Obtained results confirm suitability of using Flow Vision program complex for water landing vehicle investigations and investigations of influence of different landing regimes through wide initial condition change range, that permits considerably decrease extent of expensive experimental tests and realize landing conditions which are sufficiently complicated for realizing in model physical experiments.

Signal and noise parameters’ determination at rician data analysis by method of moments of lower odd orders
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 5, pp. 717-728

The paper develops a new mathematical method of the joint signal and noise parameters determination at the Rice statistical distribution by method of moments based upon the analysis of data for the 1-st and the 3-rd raw moments of the random rician value. The explicit equations’ system have been obtained for required parameters of the signal and noise. In the limiting case of the small value of the signal-to-noise ratio the analytical formulas have been derived that allow calculating the required parameters without the necessity of solving the equations numerically. The technique having been elaborated in the paper ensures an efficient separation of the informative and noise components of the data to be analyzed without any a-priori restrictions, just based upon the processing of the results of the signal’s sampled measurements. The task is meaningful for the purposes of the rician data processing, in particular in the systems of magnetic-resonance visualization, in ultrasound visualization systems, at the optical signals’ analysis in range measuring systems, in radio location, etc. The results of the investigation have shown that the two parameter task solution of the proposed technique does not lead to the increase in demanded volume of computing resources compared with the one parameter task being solved in approximation that the second parameter of the task is known a-priori There are provided the results of the elaborated technique’s computer simulation. The results of the signal and noise parameters’ numerical calculation have confirmed the efficiency of the elaborated technique. There has been conducted the comparison of the accuracy of the sought-for parameters estimation by the technique having been developed in this paper and by the previously elaborated method of moments based upon processing the measured data for lower even moments of the signal to be analyzed.

Numerical investigation of the gas-condensate mixture flow in a porous medium
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 2, pp. 209-219

In the last decades, the development of methods for increasing the efficiency of hydrocarbon extraction in fields with unconventional reserves containing large amounts of gas condensate is of great importance. This makes important the development of methods of mathematical modeling that realistically describe physical processes in a gas-condensate mixture in a porous medium.

In the paper, a mathematical model which describes the dynamics of the pressure, velocity and concentration of the components of a two-component two-phase mixture entering a laboratory model of plast filled with a porous substance with known physicochemical properties is considered. The mathematical model is based on a system of nonlinear spatially one-dimensional partial differential equations with the corresponding initial and boundary conditions. Laboratory experiments show that during a finite time the system stabilizes, what gives a basis to proceed to the stationary formulation of the problem.

The numerical solution of the formulated system of ordinary differential equations is realized in the Maple environment on the basis of the Runge–Kutta procedure. It is shown that the physical parameters of the gascondensate mixture, which characterize the modeled system in the stabilization regime, obtained on this basis, are in good agreement with the available experimental data. This confirms the correctness of the chosen approach and the validity of its further application and development for computer modeling of physical processes in gas-condensate mixtures in a porous medium. The paper presents a mathematical formulation of the system of partial differential equations and of respective system stationary equations, describes the numerical approach, and discusses the numerical results obtained in comparison with experimental data.

Bank slope evolution in trapezoidal channel riverbed
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 3, pp. 581-592

A mathematical model is formulated for the coastal slope erosion of sandy channel, which occurs under the action of a passing flood wave. The moving boundaries of the computational domain — the bottom surface and the free surface of the hydrodynamic flow — are determined from the solution of auxiliary differential equations. A change in the hydrodynamic flow section area for a given law of change in the flow rate requires a change in time of the turbulent viscosity averaged over the section. The bottom surface movement is determined from the Exner equation solution together with the equation of the bottom material avalanche movement. The Exner equation is closed by the original analytical model of traction loads movement. The model takes into account transit, gravitational and pressure mechanisms of bottom material movement and does not contain phenomenological parameters.

Based on the finite element method, a discrete analogue of the formulated problem is obtained and an algorithm for its solution is proposed. An algorithm feature is control of the free surface movement influence of the flow and the flow rate on the process of determining the flow turbulent viscosity. Numerical calculations have been carried out, demonstrating qualitative and quantitative influence of these features on the determining process of the flow turbulent viscosity and the channel bank slope erosion.

Data comparison on bank deformations obtained as a result of numerical calculations with known flume experimental data showed their agreement.

  10. The work is devoted to the problem of creating a model with stationary parameters using historical data under conditions of unknown disturbances. The case is considered when a representative sample of object states can be formed using historical data accumulated only over a significant period of time. It is assumed that unknown disturbances can act in a wide frequency range and may have low-frequency and trend components. In such a situation, including data from different time periods in the sample can lead to inconsistencies and greatly reduce the accuracy of the model. The paper provides an overview of approaches and methods for data harmonization. In this case, the main attention is paid to data sampling. An assessment is made of the applicability of various data sampling options as a tool for reducing the level of uncertainty. We propose a method for identifying a self-leveling object model using data accumulated over a significant period of time under conditions of unknown disturbances with a wide frequency range. The method is focused on creating a model with stationary parameters that does not require periodic reconfiguration to new conditions. The method is based on the combined use of sampling and presentation of data from individual periods of time in the form of increments relative to the initial point in time for the period. This makes it possible to reduce the number of parameters that characterize unknown disturbances with a minimum of assumptions that limit the application of the method. As a result, the dimensionality of the search problem is reduced and the computational costs associated with setting up the model are minimized. It is possible to configure both linear and, in some cases, nonlinear models. The method was used to develop a model of closed cooling of steel on a unit for continuous hot-dip galvanizing of steel strip. The model can be used for predictive control of thermal processes and for selecting strip speed. It is shown that the method makes it possible to develop a model of thermal processes from a closed cooling section under conditions of unknown disturbances, including low-frequency components.
