Subgradient methods for weakly convex problems with a sharp minimum in the case of inexact information about the function or subgradient
Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 7, pp. 1765-1778The problem of developing efficient numerical methods for non-convex (including non-smooth) problems is relevant due to their widespread use of such problems in applications. This paper is devoted to subgradient methods for minimizing Lipschitz $\mu$-weakly convex functions, which are not necessarily smooth. It is well known that subgradient methods have low convergence rates in high-dimensional spaces even for convex functions. However, if we consider a subclass of functions that satisfies sharp minimum condition and also use the Polyak step, we can guarantee a linear convergence rate of the subgradient method. In some cases, the values of the function or it’s subgradient may be available to the numerical method with some error. The accuracy of the solution provided by the numerical method depends on the magnitude of this error. In this paper, we investigate the behavior of the subgradient method with a Polyak step when inaccurate information about the objective function value or subgradient is used in iterations. We prove that with a specific choice of starting point, the subgradient method with some analogue of the Polyak step-size converges at a geometric progression rate on a class of $\mu$-weakly convex functions with a sharp minimum, provided that there is additive inaccuracy in the subgradient values. In the case when both the value of the function and the value of its subgradient at the current point are known with error, convergence to some neighborhood of the set of exact solutions is shown and the quality estimates of the output solution by the subgradient method with the corresponding analogue of the Polyak step are obtained. The article also proposes a subgradient method with a clipped step, and an assessment of the quality of the solution obtained by this method for the class of $\mu$-weakly convex functions with a sharp minimum is presented. Numerical experiments were conducted for the problem of low-rank matrix recovery. They showed that the efficiency of the studied algorithms may not depend on the accuracy of localization of the initial approximation within the required region, and the inaccuracy in the values of the function and subgradient may affect the number of iterations required to achieve an acceptable quality of the solution, but has almost no effect on the quality of the solution itself.

Describing processes in photosynthetic reaction center ensembles using a Monte Carlo kinetic model
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 5, pp. 1207-1221Photosynthetic apparatus of a plant cell consists of multiple photosynthetic electron transport chains (ETC). Each ETC is capable of capturing and utilizing light quanta, that drive electron transport along the chain. Light assimilation efficiency depends on the plant’s current physiological state. The energy of the part of quanta that cannot be utilized, dissipates into heat, or is emitted as fluorescence. Under high light conditions fluorescence levels gradually rise to the maximum level. The curve describing that rise is called fluorescence rise (FR). It has a complex shape and that shape changes depending on the photosynthetic apparatus state. This gives one the opportunity to investigate that state only using the non invasive measuring of the FR.
When measuring fluorescence in experimental conditions, we get a response from millions of photosynthetic units at a time. In order to reproduce the probabilistic nature of the processes in a photosynthetic ETC, we created a Monte Carlo model of this chain. This model describes an ETC as a sequence of electron carriers in a thylakoid membrane, connected with each other. Those carriers have certain probabilities of capturing light photons, transferring excited states, or reducing each other, depending on the current ETC state. The events that take place in each of the model photosynthetic ETCs are registered, accumulated and used to create fluorescence rise and electron carrier redox states accumulation kinetics. This paper describes the model structure, the principles of its operation and the relations between certain model parameters and the resulting kinetic curves shape. Model curves include photosystem II reaction center fluorescence rise and photosystem I reaction center redox state change kinetics under different conditions.

Modelling of carbon dioxide net ecosystem exchange of hayfield on drained peat soil: land use scenario analysis
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 6, pp. 1427-1449The data of episodic field measurements of carbon dioxide balance components (soil respiration — Rsoil, ecosystem respiration — Reco, net ecosystem exchange — NEE) of hayfields under use and abandoned one are interpreted by modelling. The field measurements were carried within five field campaigns in 2018 and 2019 on the drained part of the Dubna Peatland in Taldom District, Moscow Oblast, Russia. The territory is within humid continental climate zone. Peatland drainage was done out for milled peat extraction. After extraction was stopped, the residual peat deposit (1–1.5 m) was ploughed and grassed (Poa pratensis L.) for hay production. The current ground water level (GWL) varies from 0.3–0.5 m below the surface during wet and up to 1.0 m during dry periods. Daily dynamics of CO2 fluxes was measured using dynamic chamber method in 2018 (August) and 2019 (May, June, August) for abandoned ditch spacing only with sanitary mowing once in 5 years and the ditch spacing with annual mowing. NEE and Reco were measured on the sites with original vegetation, and Rsoil — after vegetation removal. To model a seasonal dynamics of NEE, the dependence of its components (Reco, Rsoil, and Gross ecosystematmosphere exchange of carbon dioxide — GEE) from soil and air temperature, GWL, photosynthetically active radiation, underground and aboveground plant biomass were used. The parametrization of the models has been carried out considering the stability of coefficients estimated by the bootstrap method. R2 (α = 0.05) between simulated and measured Reco was 0.44 (p < 0.0003) on abandoned and 0.59 (p < 0.04) on under use hayfield, and GEE was 0.57 (p < 0.0002) and 0.77 (p < 0.00001), respectively. Numerical experiments were carried out to assess the influence of different haymaking regime on NEE. It was found that NEE for the season (May 15 – September 30) did not differ much between the hayfield without mowing (4.5±1.0 tC·ha–1·season–1) and the abandoned one (6.2±1.4). Single mowing during the season leads to increase of NEE up to 6.5±0.9, and double mowing — up to 7.5±1.4 tC·ha–1·season–1. This means increase of carbon losses and CO2 emission into the atmosphere. Carbon loss on hayfield for both single and double mowing scenario was comparable with abandoned hayfield. The value of removed phytomass for single and double mowing was 0.8±0.1 tC·ha–1·season–1 and 1.4±0.1 (45% carbon content in dry phytomass) or 3.0 and 4.4 t·ha–1·season–1 of hay (17% moisture content). In comparison with the fallow, the removal of biomass of 0.8±0.1 at single and 1.4±0.1 tC·ha–1·season–1 double mowing is accompanied by an increase in carbon loss due to CO2 emissions, i.e., the growth of NEE by 0.3±0.1 and 1.3±0.6 tC·ha–1·season–1, respectively. This corresponds to the growth of NEE for each ton of withdrawn phytomass per hectare of 0.4±0.2 tС·ha–1·season–1 at single mowing, and 0.9±0.7 tС·ha–1·season–1 at double mowing. Therefore, single mowing is more justified in terms of carbon loss than double mowing. Extensive mowing does not increase CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and allows, in addition, to “replace” part of the carbon loss by agricultural production.

Fast and accurate x86 disassembly using a graph convolutional network model
Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 7, pp. 1779-1792Disassembly of stripped x86 binaries is an important yet non-trivial task. Disassembly is difficult to perform correctly without debug information, especially on x86 architecture, which has variablesized instructions interleaved with data. Moreover, the presence of indirect jumps in binary code adds another layer of complexity. Indirect jumps impede the ability of recursive traversal, a common disassembly technique, to successfully identify all instructions within the code. Consequently, disassembling such code becomes even more intricate and demanding, further highlighting the challenges faced in this field. Many tools, including commercial ones such as IDA Pro, struggle with accurate x86 disassembly. As such, there has been some interest in developing a better solution using machine learning (ML) techniques. ML can potentially capture underlying compiler-independent patterns inherent for the compiler-generated assembly. Researchers in this area have shown that it is possible for ML approaches to outperform the classical tools. They also can be less timeconsuming to develop compared to manual heuristics, shifting most of the burden onto collecting a big representative dataset of executables with debug information. Following this line of work, we propose an improvement of an existing RGCN-based architecture, which builds control and flow graph on superset disassembly. The enhancement comes from augmenting the graph with data flow information. In particular, in the embedding we add Jump Control Flow and Register Dependency edges, inspired by Probabilistic Disassembly. We also create an open-source x86 instruction identification dataset, based on a combination of ByteWeight dataset and a selection open-source Debian packages. Compared to IDA Pro, a state of the art commercial tool, our approach yields better accuracy, while maintaining great performance on our benchmarks. It also fares well against existing machine learning approaches such as DeepDi.

Multicriterial metric data analysis in human capital modelling
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 5, pp. 1223-1245The article describes a model of a human in the informational economy and demonstrates the multicriteria optimizational approach to the metric analysis of model-generated data. The traditional approach using the identification and study involves the model’s identification by time series and its further prediction. However, this is not possible when some variables are not explicitly observed and only some typical borders or population features are known, which is often the case in the social sciences, making some models pure theoretical. To avoid this problem, we propose a method of metric data analysis (MMDA) for identification and study of such models, based on the construction and analysis of the Kolmogorov – Shannon metric nets of the general population in a multidimensional space of social characteristics. Using this method, the coefficients of the model are identified and the features of its phase trajectories are studied. In this paper, we are describing human according to his role in information processing, considering his awareness and cognitive abilities. We construct two lifetime indices of human capital: creative individual (generalizing cognitive abilities) and productive (generalizing the amount of information mastered by a person) and formulate the problem of their multi-criteria (two-criteria) optimization taking into account life expectancy. This approach allows us to identify and economically justify the new requirements for the education system and the information environment of human existence. It is shown that the Pareto-frontier exists in the optimization problem, and its type depends on the mortality rates: at high life expectancy there is one dominant solution, while for lower life expectancy there are different types of Paretofrontier. In particular, the Pareto-principle applies to Russia: a significant increase in the creative human capital of an individual (summarizing his cognitive abilities) is possible due to a small decrease in the creative human capital (summarizing awareness). It is shown that the increase in life expectancy makes competence approach (focused on the development of cognitive abilities) being optimal, while for low life expectancy the knowledge approach is preferable.

Multi-stable scenarios for differential equations describing the dynamics of a predators and preys system
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 6, pp. 1451-1466Dynamic scenarios leading to multistability in the form of continuous families of stable solutions are studied for a system of autonomous differential equations. The approach is based on determining the cosymmetries of the problem, calculating stationary solutions, and numerically-analytically studying their stability. The analysis is carried out for equations of the Lotka –Volterra type, describing the interaction of two predators feeding on two related prey species. For a system of ordinary differential equations of the 4th order with 11 real parameters, a numerical-analytical study of possible interaction scenarios was carried out. Relationships are found analytically between the control parameters under which the cosymmetry linear in the variables of the problem is realized and families of stationary solutions (equilibria) arise. The case of multicosymmetry is established and explicit formulas for a two-parameter family of equilibria are presented. The analysis of the stability of these solutions made it possible to reveal the division of the family into regions of stable and unstable equilibria. In a computational experiment, the limit cycles branching off from unstable stationary solutions are determined and their multipliers corresponding to multistability are calculated. Examples of the coexistence of families of stable stationary and non-stationary solutions are presented. The analysis is carried out for the growth functions of logistic and “hyperbolic” types. Depending on the parameters, scenarios can be obtained when only stationary solutions (coexistence of prey without predators and mixed combinations), as well as families of limit cycles, are realized in the phase space. The multistability scenarios considered in the work allow one to analyze the situations that arise in the presence of several related species in the range. These results are the basis for subsequent analysis when the parameters deviate from cosymmetric relationships.

On Tollmien – Schlichting instability in numerical solutions of the Navier – Stokes equations obtained with 16th-order multioperators-based scheme
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 4, pp. 953-967The paper presents the results of applying a scheme of very high accuracy and resolution to obtain numerical solutions of the Navier – Stokes equations of a compressible gas describing the occurrence and development of instability of a two-dimensional laminar boundary layer on a flat plate. The peculiarity of the conducted studies is the absence of commonly used artificial exciters of instability in the implementation of direct numerical modeling. The multioperator scheme used made it possible to observe the subtle effects of the birth of unstable modes and the complex nature of their development caused presumably by its small approximation errors. A brief description of the scheme design and its main properties is given. The formulation of the problem and the method of obtaining initial data are described, which makes it possible to observe the established non-stationary regime fairly quickly. A technique is given that allows detecting flow fluctuations with amplitudes many orders of magnitude smaller than its average values. A time-dependent picture of the appearance of packets of Tollmien – Schlichting waves with varying intensity in the vicinity of the leading edge of the plate and their downstream propagation is presented. The presented amplitude spectra with expanding peak values in the downstream regions indicate the excitation of new unstable modes other than those occurring in the vicinity of the leading edge. The analysis of the evolution of instability waves in time and space showed agreement with the main conclusions of the linear theory. The numerical solutions obtained seem to describe for the first time the complete scenario of the possible development of Tollmien – Schlichting instability, which often plays an essential role at the initial stage of the laminar-turbulent transition. They open up the possibilities of full-scale numerical modeling of this process, which is extremely important for practice, with a similar study of the spatial boundary layer.

Retail forecasting on high-frequency depersonalized data
Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 6, pp. 1713-1734Technological development determines the emergence of highly detailed data in time and space, which expands the possibilities of analysis, allowing us to consider consumer decisions and the competitive behavior of enterprises in all their diversity, taking into account the context of the territory and the characteristics of time periods. Despite the promise of such studies, they are currently limited in the scientific literature. This is due to the range of problems, the solution of which is considered in this paper. The article draws attention to the complexity of the analysis of depersonalized high-frequency data and the possibility of modeling consumption changes in time and space based on them. The features of the new type of data are considered on the example of real depersonalized data received from the fiscal data operator “First OFD” (JSC “Energy Systems and Communications”). It is shown that along with the spectrum of problems inherent in high-frequency data, there are disadvantages associated with the process of generating data on the side of the sellers, which requires a wider use of data mining tools. A series of statistical tests were carried out on the data under consideration, including a Unit-Root Test, test for unobserved individual effects, test for serial correlation and for cross-sectional dependence in panels, etc. The presence of spatial autocorrelation of the data was tested using modified tests of Lagrange multipliers. The tests carried out showed the presence of a consistent correlation and spatial dependence of the data, which determine the expediency of applying the methods of panel and spatial analysis in relation to high-frequency data accumulated by fiscal operators. The constructed models made it possible to substantiate the spatial relationship of sales growth and its dependence on the day of the week. The limitation for increasing the predictive ability of the constructed models and their subsequent complication, due to the inclusion of explanatory factors, was the lack of open access statistics grouped in the required detail in time and space, which determines the relevance of the formation of high-frequency geographically structured data bases.

Reinforcement learning in optimisation of financial market trading strategy parameters
Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 7, pp. 1793-1812High frequency algorithmic trading became is a subclass of trading which is focused on gaining basis-point like profitability on sub-second time frames. Such trading strategies do not depend on most of the factors eligible for the longer-term trading and require specific approach. There were many attempts to utilize machine learning techniques to both high and low frequency trading. However, it is still having limited application in the real world trading due to high exposure to overfitting, requirements for rapid adaptation to new market regimes and overall instability of the results. We conducted a comprehensive research on combination of known quantitative theory and reinforcement learning methods in order derive more effective and robust approach at construction of automated trading system in an attempt to create a support for a known algorithmic trading techniques. Using classical price behavior theories as well as modern application cases in sub-millisecond trading, we utilized the Reinforcement Learning models in order to improve quality of the algorithms. As a result, we derived a robust model which utilize Deep Reinforcement learning in order to optimise static market making trading algorithms’ parameters capable of online learning on live data. More specifically, we explored the system in the derivatives cryptocurrency market which mostly not dependent on external factors in short terms. Our research was implemented in high-frequency environment and the final models showed capability to operate within accepted high-frequency trading time-frames. We compared various combinations of Deep Reinforcement Learning approaches and the classic algorithms and evaluated robustness and effectiveness of improvements for each combination.

Theoretical modeling consensus building in the work of standardization technical committees in coalitions based on regular Markov chains
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 5, pp. 1247-1256Often decisions in social groups are made by consensus. This applies, for example, to the examination in the technical committee for standardization (TC) before the approval of the national standard by Rosstandart. The standard is approved if and only if the secured consensus in the TC. The same approach to standards development was adopted in almost all countries and at the regional and international level. Previously published works of authors dedicated to the construction of a mathematical model of time to reach consensus in technical committees for standardization in terms of variation in the number of TC members and their level of authoritarianism. The present study is a continuation of these works for the case of the formation of coalitions that are often formed during the consideration of the draft standard to the TC. In the article the mathematical model is constructed to ensure consensus on the work of technical standardization committees in terms of coalitions. In the framework of the model it is shown that in the presence of coalitions consensus is not achievable. However, the coalition, as a rule, are overcome during the negotiation process, otherwise the number of the adopted standards would be extremely small. This paper analyzes the factors that influence the bridging coalitions: the value of the assignment and an index of the effect of the coalition. On the basis of statistical modelling of regular Markov chains is investigated their effects on the time to ensure consensus in the technical Committee. It is proved that the time to reach consensus significantly depends on the value of unilateral concessions coalition and weakly depends on the size of coalitions. Built regression model of dependence of the average number of approvals from the value of the assignment. It was revealed that even a small concession leads to the onset of consensus, increasing the size of the assignment results (with other factors being equal) to a sharp decline in time before the consensus. It is shown that the assignment of a larger coalition against small coalitions takes on average more time before consensus. The result has practical value for all organizational structures, where the emergence of coalitions entails the inability of decision-making in the framework of consensus and requires the consideration of various methods for reaching a consensus decision.
