Tangent search method in time optimal problem for a wheeled mobile robot
Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 3, pp. 401-421Searching optimal trajectory of motion is a complex problem that is investigated in many research studies. Most of the studies investigate methods that are applicable to such a problem in general, regardless of the model of the object. With such general approach, only numerical solution can be found. However, in some cases it is possible to find an optimal trajectory in a closed form. Current article considers a time optimal problem with state limitations for a wheeled mobile differential robot that moves on a horizontal plane. The mathematical model of motion is kinematic. The state constraints correspond to the obstacles on the plane defined as circles that need to be avoided during motion. The independent control inputs are the wheel speeds that are limited in absolute value. Such model is commonly used in problems where the transients are considered insignificant, for example, when controlling tracked or wheeled devices that move slowly, prioritizing traction power over speed. In the article it is shown that the optimal trajectory from the starting point to the finishing point in such kinematic approach is a sequence of straight segments of tangents to the obstacles and arcs of the circles that limit the obstacles. The geometrically shortest path between the start and the finish is also a sequence of straight lines and arcs, therefore the time-optimal trajectory corresponds to one of the local minima when searching for the shortest path. The article proposes a method of search for the time-optimal trajectory based on building a graph of possible trajectories, where the edges are the possible segments of the tajectory, and the vertices are the connections between them. The optimal path is sought using Dijkstra’s algorithm. The theoretical foundation of the method is given, and the results of computer investigation of the algorithm are provided.

Intersections present a very demanding environment for all the parties involved. Challenges arise from complex vehicle trajectories; occasional absence of lane markings to guide vehicles; split phases that prevent determining who has the right of way; invisible vehicle approaches; illegal movements; simultaneous interactions among pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles. Unsurprisingly, most demonstrations of AVs are on freeways; but the full potential of automated vehicles — personalized transit, driverless taxis, delivery vehicles — can only be realized when AVs can sense the intersection environment to efficiently and safely maneuver through intersections.
AVs are equipped with an array of on-board sensors to interpret and suitably engage with their surroundings. Advanced algorithms utilize data streams from such sensors to support the movement of autonomous vehicles through a wide range of traffic and climatic conditions. However, there exist situations, in which additional information about the upcoming traffic environment would be beneficial to better inform the vehicles’ in-built tracking and navigation algorithms. A potential source for such information is from in-pavement sensors at an intersection that can be used to differentiate between motorized and non-motorized modes and track road user movements and interactions. This type of information, in addition to signal phasing, can be provided to the AV as it approaches an intersection, and incorporated into an improved prior for the probabilistic algorithms used to classify and track movement in the AV’s field of vision.
This paper is concerned with the situation in which there are objects that are not visible to the AV. The driving context is that of an intersection, and the lack of visibility is due to other vehicles that obstruct the AV’s view, leading to the creation of blind zones. Such obstruction is commonplace in intersections.
Our objective is:
1) inform a vehicle crossing the intersection about its potential blind zones;
2) inform the vehicle about the presence of agents (other vehicles, bicyclists or pedestrians) in those blind zones.

Numerical simulation of the process of activation of the safety valve

Citations: 1 (RSCI).The conjugate problem of disk movement into gas-filled volume of the spring-type safety valve is solved. The questions of determining the physically correct value of the disk initial lift are considered. The review of existing approaches and methods for solving of such type problems is conducted. The formulation of the problem about the valve actuation when the vessel pressure rises and the mathematical model of the actuation processes are given. A special attention to the binding of physical subtasks is paid. Used methods, numerical schemes and algorithms are described. The mathematical modeling is performed on basе the fundamental system of differential equations for viscous gas movement with the equation for displacement of disk valve. The solution of this problem in the axe symmetric statement is carried out numerically using the finite volume method. The results obtained by the viscous and inviscid models are compared. In an inviscid formulation this problem is solved using the Godunov scheme, and in a viscous formulation is solved using the Kurganov – Tadmor method. The dependence of the disk displacement on time was obtained and compared with the experimental data. The pressure distribution on the disk surface, velocity profiles in the cross sections of the gap for different disk heights are given. It is shown that a value of initial drive lift it does not affect on the gas flow and valve movement part dynamic. It can significantly reduce the calculation time of the full cycle of valve work. Immediate isotahs for various elevations of the disk are presented. The comparison of jet flow over critical section is given. The data carried out by two numerical experiments are well correlated with each other. So, the inviscid model can be applied to the numerical modeling of the safety valve dynamic.
