A discreet ‘power–society–economics’ model based on cellular automaton
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 3, pp. 561-572

In this paper we consider a new modification of the discrete version of Mikhailov’s ‘power–society’ model, previously proposed by the author. This modification includes social-economical dynamics and corruption of the system similarly to continuous ‘power–society–economics–corruption’ model but is based on a stochastic cellular automaton describing the dynamics of power distribution in a hierarchy. This new version is founded on previously proposed ‘power–society’ system modeling cellular automaton, its cell state space enriched with variables corresponding to population, economic production, production assets volume and corruption level. The social-economical structure of the model is inherited from Solow and deterministic continuous ‘power–society–economics–corruption’ models. At the same time the new model is flexible, allowing to consider regional differentiation in all social and economical dynamics parameters, to use various production and demography models and to account for goods transit between the regions. A simulation system was built, including three power hierarchy levels, five regions and 100 municipalities. and a number of numerical experiments were carried out. This research yielded results showing specific changes of the dynamics in power distribution in hierarchy when corruption level increases. While corruption is zero (similar to the previous version of the model) the power distribution in hierarchy asymptotically tends to one of stationary states. If the corruption level increases substantially, volume of power in the system is subjected to irregular oscillations, and only much later tends to a stationary value. The meaning of these results can be interpreted as the fact that the stability of power hierarchy decreases when corruption level goes up.

Regarding the dynamics of cosymmetric predator – prey systems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 5, pp. 799-813

To study nonlinear effects of biological species interactions numerical-analytical approach is being developed. The approach is based on the cosymmetry theory accounting for the phenomenon of the emergence of a continuous family of solutions to differential equations where each solution can be obtained from the appropriate initial state. In problems of mathematical ecology the onset of cosymmetry is usually connected with a number of relationships between the parameters of the system. When the relationships collapse families vanish, we get a finite number of isolated solutions instead of a continuum of solutions and transient process can be long-term, dynamics taking place in a neighborhood of a family that has vanished due to cosymmetry collapse.

We consider a model for spatiotemporal competition of predators or prey with an account for directed migration, Holling type II functional response and nonlinear prey growth function permitting Alley effect. We found out the conditions on system parameters under which there is linear with respect to population densities cosymmetry. It is demonstated that cosymmetry exists for any resource function in case of heterogeneous habitat. Numerical experiment in MATLAB is applied to compute steady states and oscillatory regimes in case of spatial heterogeneity.

The dynamics of three population interactions (two predators and a prey, two prey and a predator) are considered. The onset of families of stationary distributions and limit cycle branching out of equlibria of a family that lose stability are investigated in case of homogeneous habitat. The study of the system for two prey and a predator gave a wonderful result of species coexistence. We have found out parameter regions where three families of stable solutions can be realized: coexistence of two prey in absence of a predator, stationary and oscillatory distributions of three coexisting species. Cosymmetry collapse is analyzed and long-term transient dynamics leading to solutions with the exclusion of one of prey or extinction of a predator is established in the numerical experiment.

Determination of CT dose by means of noise analysis
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 4, pp. 525-533

The article deals with the process of creating an effective algorithm for determining the amount of emitted quanta from an X-ray tube in computer tomography (CT) studies. An analysis of domestic and foreign literature showed that most of the work in the field of radiometry and radiography takes the tabulated values of X-ray absorption coefficients into account, while individual dose factors are not taken into account at all since many studies are lacking the Dose Report. Instead, an average value is used to simplify the calculation of statistics. In this regard, it was decided to develop a method to detect the amount of ionizing quanta by analyzing the noise of CT data. As the basis of the algorithm, we used Poisson and Gauss distribution mathematical model of owns’ design of logarithmic value. The resulting mathematical model was tested on the CT data of a calibration phantom consisting of three plastic cylinders filled with water, the X-ray absorption coefficient of which is known from the table values. The data were obtained from several CT devices from different manufacturers (Siemens, Toshiba, GE, Phillips). The developed algorithm made it possible to calculate the number of emitted X-ray quanta per unit time. These data, taking into account the noise level and the radiuses of the cylinders, were converted to X-ray absorption values, after which a comparison was made with tabulated values. As a result of this operation, the algorithm used with CT data of various configurations, experimental data were obtained, consistent with the theoretical part and the mathematical model. The results showed good accuracy of the algorithm and mathematical apparatus, which shows reliability of the obtained data. This mathematical model is already used in the noise reduction program of the CT of own design, where it participates as a method of creating a dynamic threshold of noise reduction. At the moment, the algorithm is being processed to work with real data from computer tomography of patients.

Model for operational optimal control of financial recourses distribution in a company
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 2, pp. 343-358

A critical analysis of existing approaches, methods and models to solve the problem of financial resources operational management has been carried out in the article. A number of significant shortcomings of the presented models were identified, limiting the scope of their effective usage. There are a static nature of the models, probabilistic nature of financial flows are not taken into account, daily amounts of receivables and payables that significantly affect the solvency and liquidity of the company are not identified. This necessitates the development of a new model that reflects the essential properties of the planning financial flows system — stochasticity, dynamism, non-stationarity.

The model for the financial flows distribution has been developed. It bases on the principles of optimal dynamic control and provides financial resources planning ensuring an adequate level of liquidity and solvency of a company and concern initial data uncertainty. The algorithm for designing the objective cash balance, based on principles of a companies’ financial stability ensuring under changing financial constraints, is proposed.

Characteristic of the proposed model is the presentation of the cash distribution process in the form of a discrete dynamic process, for which a plan for financial resources allocation is determined, ensuring the extremum of an optimality criterion. Designing of such plan is based on the coordination of payments (cash expenses) with the cash receipts. This approach allows to synthesize different plans that differ in combinations of financial outflows, and then to select the best one according to a given criterion. The minimum total costs associated with the payment of fines for non-timely financing of expenses were taken as the optimality criterion. Restrictions in the model are the requirement to ensure the minimum allowable cash balances for the subperiods of the planning period, as well as the obligation to make payments during the planning period, taking into account the maturity of these payments. The suggested model with a high degree of efficiency allows to solve the problem of financial resources distribution under uncertainty over time and receipts, coordination of funds inflows and outflows. The practical significance of the research is in developed model application, allowing to improve the financial planning quality, to increase the management efficiency and operational efficiency of a company.

The applicability of the approximation of single scattering in pulsed sensing of an inhomogeneous medium
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 5, pp. 1063-1079

The mathematical model based on the linear integro-differential Boltzmann equation is considered in this article. The model describes the radiation transfer in the scattering medium irradiated by a point source. The inverse problem for the transfer equation is defined. This problem consists of determining the scattering coefficient from the time-angular distribution of the radiation flux density at a given point in space. The Neumann series representation for solving the radiation transfer equation is analyzed in the study of the inverse problem. The zero member of the series describes the unscattered radiation, the first member of the series describes a single-scattered field, the remaining members of the series describe a multiple-scattered field. When calculating the approximate solution of the radiation transfer equation, the single scattering approximation is widespread to calculated an approximate solution of the equation for regions with a small optical thickness and a low level of scattering. An analytical formula is obtained for finding the scattering coefficient by using this approximation for problem with additional restrictions on the initial data. To verify the adequacy of the obtained formula the Monte Carlo weighted method for solving the transfer equation is constructed and software implemented taking into account multiple scattering in the medium and the space-time singularity of the radiation source. As applied to the problems of high-frequency acoustic sensing in the ocean, computational experiments were carried out. The application of the single scattering approximation is justified, at least, at a sensing range of about one hundred meters and the double and triple scattered fields make the main impact on the formula error. For larger regions, the single scattering approximation gives at the best only a qualitative evaluation of the medium structure, sometimes it even does not allow to determine the order of the parameters quantitative characteristics of the interaction of radiation with matter.

A model for analyzing income inequality based on a finite functional sequence (adequacy and application problems)
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 3, pp. 675-689

The paper considers the adequacy of the model developed earlier by the author for the analysis of income inequality and based on an empirically confirmed hypothesis that the relative (to the income of the richest group) income values of 20% population groups in total income can be represented as a finite functional sequence, each member of which depends on one parameter — a specially defined indicator of inequality. It is shown that in addition to the existing methods of inequality analysis, the model makes it possible to estimate with the help of analytical expressions the income shares of 20%, 10% and smaller groups of the population for different levels of inequality, as well as to identify how they change with the growth of inequality, to estimate the level of inequality for known ratios between the incomes of different groups of the population, etc.

The paper provides a more detailed confirmation of the proposed model adequacy in comparison with the previously obtained results of statistical analysis of empirical data on the distribution of income between the 20% and 10% population groups. It is based on the analysis of certain ratios between the values of quintiles and deciles according to the proposed model. The verification of these ratios was carried out using a set of data for a large number of countries and the estimates obtained confirm the sufficiently high accuracy of the model.

Data are presented that confirm the possibility of using the model to analyze the dependence of income distribution by population groups on the level of inequality, as well as to estimate the inequality indicator for income ratios between different groups, including variants when the income of the richest 20% is equal to the income of the poor 60 %, income of the middle class 40% or income of the rest 80% of the population, as well as when the income of the richest 10% is equal to the income of the poor 40 %, 50% or 60%, to the income of various middle class groups, etc., as well as for cases, when the distribution of income obeys harmonic proportions and when the quintiles and deciles corresponding to the middle class reach a maximum. It is shown that the income shares of the richest middle class groups are relatively stable and have a maximum at certain levels of inequality.

The results obtained with the help of the model can be used to determine the standards for developing a policy of gradually increasing the level of progressive taxation in order to move to the level of inequality typical of countries with social oriented economy.

Comparsion of stochastic approximation and sample average approximation for saddle point problem with bilinear coupling term
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 2, pp. 381-391

Stochastic optimization is a current area of research due to significant advances in machine learning and their applications to everyday problems. In this paper, we consider two fundamentally different methods for solving the problem of stochastic optimization — online and offline algorithms. The corresponding algorithms have their qualitative advantages over each other. So, for offline algorithms, it is required to solve an auxiliary problem with high accuracy. However, this can be done in a distributed manner, and this opens up fundamental possibilities such as, for example, the construction of a dual problem. Despite this, both online and offline algorithms pursue a common goal — solving the stochastic optimization problem with a given accuracy. This is reflected in the comparison of the computational complexity of the described algorithms, which is demonstrated in this paper.

The comparison of the described methods is carried out for two types of stochastic problems — convex optimization and saddles. For problems of stochastic convex optimization, the existing solutions make it possible to compare online and offline algorithms in some detail. In particular, for strongly convex problems, the computational complexity of the algorithms is the same, and the condition of strong convexity can be weakened to the condition of $\gamma$-growth of the objective function. From this point of view, saddle point problems are much less studied. Nevertheless, existing solutions allow us to outline the main directions of research. Thus, significant progress has been made for bilinear saddle point problems using online algorithms. Offline algorithms are represented by just one study. In this paper, this example demonstrates the similarity of both algorithms with convex optimization. The issue of the accuracy of solving the auxiliary problem for saddles was also worked out. On the other hand, the saddle point problem of stochastic optimization generalizes the convex one, that is, it is its logical continuation. This is manifested in the fact that existing results from convex optimization can be transferred to saddles. In this paper, such a transfer is carried out for the results of the online algorithm in the convex case, when the objective function satisfies the $\gamma$-growth condition.

Numerical-analytical modeling of gravitational lensing of the electromagnetic waves in random-inhomogeneous space plasma
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 2, pp. 433-443

Instrument of numerical-analytical modeling of characteristics of propagation of electromagnetic waves in chaotic space plasma with taking into account effects of gravitation is developed for interpretation of data of measurements of astrophysical precision instruments of new education. The task of propagation of waves in curved (Riemann’s) space is solved in Euclid’s space by introducing of the effective index of refraction of vacuum. The gravitational potential can be calculated for various model of distribution of mass of astrophysical objects and at solution of Poisson’s equation. As a result the effective index of refraction of vacuum can be evaluated. Approximate model of the effective index of refraction is suggested with condition that various objects additively contribute in total gravitational field. Calculation of the characteristics of electromagnetic waves in the gravitational field of astrophysical objects is performed by the approximation of geometrical optics with condition that spatial scales of index of refraction a lot more wavelength. Light differential equations in Euler’s form are formed the basis of numerical-analytical instrument of modeling of trajectory characteristic of waves. Chaotic inhomogeneities of space plasma are introduced by model of spatial correlation function of index of refraction. Calculations of refraction scattering of waves are performed by the approximation of geometrical optics. Integral equations for statistic moments of lateral deviations of beams in picture plane of observer are obtained. Integrals for moments are reduced to system of ordinary differential equations the firsts order with using analytical transformations for cooperative numerical calculation of arrange and meansquare deviations of light. Results of numerical-analytical modeling of trajectory picture of propagation of electromagnetic waves in interstellar space with taking into account impact of gravitational fields of space objects and refractive scattering of waves on inhomogeneities of index of refraction of surrounding plasma are shown. Based on the results of modeling quantitative estimation of conditions of stochastic blurring of the effect of gravitational lensing of electromagnetic waves at various frequency ranges is performed. It’s shown that operating frequencies of meter range of wavelengths represent conditional low-frequency limit for observational of the effect of gravitational lensing in stochastic space plasma. The offered instrument of numerical-analytical modeling can be used for analyze of structure of electromagnetic radiation of quasar propagating through group of galactic.

Optimization of proton therapy with radiosensitizing nanoparticles and antiangiogenic therapy via mathematical modeling
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 4, pp. 697-715

Optimization of antitumor radiotherapy represents an urgent issue, as approximately half of the patients diagnosed with cancer undergo radiotherapy during their treatment. Proton therapy is potentially more efficient than traditional X-ray radiotherapy due to fundamental differences in physics of dose deposition, leading to better targeting of tumors and less collateral damage to healthy tissue. There is increasing interest in the use of non-radioactive radiosensitizing tumor-specific nanoparticles the use of which can boost the performance of proton therapy. Such nanoparticles are small volumes of a sensitizer, such as boron-10 or various metal oxides, enclosed in a polymer layer containing tumor-specific antibodies, which allows for their targeted delivery to malignant cells. Furthermore, a combination of proton therapy with antiangiogenic therapy that normalizes tumor-associated microvasculature may yield further synergistic increase in overall treatment efficacy.

We have developed a spatially distributed mathematical model simulating the growth of a non-invasive tumor undergoing treatment by fractionated proton therapy with nanosensitizers and antiangiogenic therapy. The modeling results suggest that the most effective way to combine these treatment modalities should strongly depend on the tumor cells’ proliferation rate and their intrinsic radiosensitivity. Namely, a combination of antiangiogenic therapy with proton therapy, regardless of whether radiosensitizing nanoparticles are used, benefits treatment efficacy of rapidly growing tumors as well as radioresistant tumors with moderate growth rate. In these cases, administration of proton therapy simultaneously with antiangiogenic drugs after the initial single injection of nanosensitizers is the most effective option among those analyzed. Conversely, for slowly growing tumors, maximization of the number of nanosensitizer injections without antiangiogenic therapy proves to be a more efficient option, with enhancement in treatment efficacy growing with the increase of tumor radiosensitivity. However, the results also show that the overall efficacy of proton therapy is likely to increase only modestly with the addition of nanosensitizers and antiangiogenic drugs.

The task of trajectory calculation with the homogenous distribution of results
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2014, v. 6, no. 5, pp. 803-828

We consider a new set of tests which assigns to detection of human capability for parallel calculation. The new tests support the homogenous statistical distribution of results in distinction to the tests discussed in our previous works. This feature simplifies the analysis of test results and decreases the estimate of statistical error. The new experimental data is close to results obtained in previous experiments.
