Statistical analysis of the quasi-harmonic signal’s phase by method of moments as a tool of signal’s parameters estimation
Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 6, pp. 1037-1049The paper presents the results of theoretical investigation of the peculiarities of the quasi-harmonic signal’s phase statistical distribution, while the quasi-harmonic signal is formed as a result of the Gaussian noise impact on the initially harmonic signal. The revealed features of the phase distribution became a basis for the original technique elaborated for estimating the parameters of the initial, undistorted signal. It has been shown that the task of estimation of the initial phase value can be efficiently solved by calculating the magnitude of the mathematical expectation of the results of the phase sampled measurements, while for solving the task of estimation of the second parameter — the signal level respectively to the noise level — the dependence of the phase sampled measurements variance upon the sough-for parameter is proposed to be used. For solving this task the analytical formulas having been obtained in explicit form for the moments of lower orders of the phase distribution, are applied. A new approach to quasi-harmonic signal’s parameters estimation based on the method of moments has been developed and substantiated. In particular, the application of this method ensures a high-precision measuring the amplitude characteristics of a signal by means of the phase measurements only. The numerical results obtained by means of conducted computer simulation of the elaborated technique confirm both the theoretical conclusions and the method’s efficiency. The existence and the uniqueness of the task solution by the method of moments is substantiated. It is shown that the function that describes the dependence of the phase second central moment on the sough-for parameter, is a monotonically decreasing and thus the single-valued function. The developed method may be of interest for solving a wide range of scientific and applied tasks, connected with the necessity of estimation of both the signal level and the phase value, in such areas as data processing in systems of medical diagnostic visualization, radio-signals processing, radio-physics, optics, radio-navigation and metrology.

Analysis of the basic equation of the physical and statistical approach within reliability theory of technical systems
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 4, pp. 721-735Verification of the physical-statistical approach within reliability theory for the simplest cases was carried out, which showed its validity. An analytical solution of the one-dimensional basic equation of the physicalstatistical approach is presented under the assumption of a stationary degradation rate. From a mathematical point of view this equation is the well-known continuity equation, where the role of density is played by the density distribution function of goods in its characteristics phase space, and the role of fluid velocity is played by intensity (rate) degradation processes. The latter connects the general formalism with the specifics of degradation mechanisms. The cases of coordinate constant, linear and quadratic degradation rates are analyzed using the characteristics method. In the first two cases, the results correspond to physical intuition. At a constant rate of degradation, the shape of the initial distribution is preserved, and the distribution itself moves equably from the zero. At a linear rate of degradation, the distribution either narrows down to a narrow peak (in the singular limit), or expands, with the maximum shifting to the periphery at an exponentially increasing rate. The distribution form is also saved up to the parameters. For the initial normal distribution, the coordinates of the largest value of the distribution maximum for its return motion are obtained analytically.
In the quadratic case, the formal solution demonstrates counterintuitive behavior. It consists in the fact that the solution is uniquely defined only on a part of an infinite half-plane, vanishes along with all derivatives on the boundary, and is ambiguous when crossing the boundary. If you continue it to another area in accordance with the analytical solution, it has a two-humped appearance, retains the amount of substance and, which is devoid of physical meaning, periodically over time. If you continue it with zero, then the conservativeness property is violated. The anomaly of the quadratic case is explained, though not strictly, by the analogy of the motion of a material point with an acceleration proportional to the square of velocity. Here we are dealing with a mathematical curiosity. Numerical calculations are given for all cases. Additionally, the entropy of the probability distribution and the reliability function are calculated, and their correlation is traced.

Ensemble building and statistical mechanics methods for MHC-peptide binding prediction
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 6, pp. 1383-1395The proteins of the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) play a key role in the functioning of the adaptive immune system, and the identification of peptides that bind to them is an important step in the development of vaccines and understanding the mechanisms of autoimmune diseases. Today, there are a number of methods for predicting the binding of a particular MHC allele to a peptide. One of the best such methods is NetMHCpan-4.0, which is based on an ensemble of artificial neural networks. This paper presents a methodology for qualitatively improving the underlying neural network underlying NetMHCpan-4.0. The proposed method uses the ensemble construction technique and adds as input an estimate of the Potts model taken from static mechanics, which is a generalization of the Ising model. In the general case, the model reflects the interaction of spins in the crystal lattice. Within the framework of the proposed method, the model is used to better represent the physical nature of the interaction of proteins included in the complex. To assess the interaction of the MHC + peptide complex, we use a two-dimensional Potts model with 20 states (corresponding to basic amino acids). Solving the inverse problem using data on experimentally confirmed interacting pairs, we obtain the values of the parameters of the Potts model, which we then use to evaluate a new pair of MHC + peptide, and supplement this value with the input data of the neural network. This approach, combined with the ensemble construction technique, allows for improved prediction accuracy, in terms of the positive predictive value (PPV) metric, compared to the baseline model.

Simulation of laser polishing for fused quartz
Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 2, pp. 399-421Laser polishing is a promising technology for the finishing of fused quartz (fused silica or quartz glass) products, enabling the removal of subsurface defects induced by mechanical processing. However, the complexity and nonlinearity of the physical processes occurring during laser irradiation complicate the selection of optimal technological parameters. The present paper aims to develop, comparatively analyze, and apply high-precision predictive models for forecasting and optimizing the key performance indicators of the laser polishing process for quartz glass. A verified finite element model implemented in the ANSYS software environment produced a dataset of temperature and stress fields for various combinations of process parameters. This dataset was used to develop and validate four types of predictive models: Polynomial Regression, a Fuzzy Logic System, an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), and a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) neural network. The models’ quality was evaluated on a test set using the statistical metrics MAE, RMSE, MAPE, $R^2$, and $R^2_{Adj}$. A comparative analysis of the models revealed the significant superiority of the MLP neural network, which demonstrated the highest prediction accuracy for all output parameters, achieving Adjusted $R^2$ ($R^2_{Adj}$.) values above 0.97 and a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) in the range of 0.7–2.8%. This model was effectively utilized as a surrogate function in combination with a genetic algorithm to successfully identify the optimal process parameters. The constructed MLP neural network model functions as a reliable and high-precision tool, facilitating both prediction and the optimization of fused quartz polishing outcomes using a CO2 laser. This approach effectively approximates the complex nonlinear dependencies inherent in the process and can serve as a foundation for developing intelligent control and optimization systems for this technology.

Optimization of the brain command dictionary based on the statistical proximity criterion in silent speech recognition task
Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 3, pp. 675-690In our research, we focus on the problem of classification for silent speech recognition to develop a brain– computer interface (BCI) based on electroencephalographic (EEG) data, which will be capable of assisting people with mental and physical disabilities and expanding human capabilities in everyday life. Our previous research has shown that the silent pronouncing of some words results in almost identical distributions of electroencephalographic signal data. Such a phenomenon has a suppressive impact on the quality of neural network model behavior. This paper proposes a data processing technique that distinguishes between statistically remote and inseparable classes in the dataset. Applying the proposed approach helps us reach the goal of maximizing the semantic load of the dictionary used in BCI.
Furthermore, we propose the existence of a statistical predictive criterion for the accuracy of binary classification of the words in a dictionary. Such a criterion aims to estimate the lower and the upper bounds of classifiers’ behavior only by measuring quantitative statistical properties of the data (in particular, using the Kolmogorov – Smirnov method). We show that higher levels of classification accuracy can be achieved by means of applying the proposed predictive criterion, making it possible to form an optimized dictionary in terms of semantic load for the EEG-based BCIs. Furthermore, using such a dictionary as a training dataset for classification problems grants the statistical remoteness of the classes by taking into account the semantic and phonetic properties of the corresponding words and improves the classification behavior of silent speech recognition models.
