Situational resource allocation: review of technologies for solving problems based on knowledge systems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 4, pp. 543-566

The article presents updated technologies for solving two classes of linear resource allocation problems with dynamically changing characteristics of situational management systems and awareness of experts (and/or trained robots). The search for solutions is carried out in an interactive mode of computational experiment using updatable knowledge systems about problems considered as constructive objects (in accordance with the methodology of formalization of knowledge about programmable problems created in the theory of S-symbols). The technologies are focused on implementation in the form of Internet services. The first class includes resource allocation problems solved by the method of targeted solution movement. The second is the problems of allocating a single resource in hierarchical systems, taking into account the priorities of expense items, which can be solved (depending on the specified mandatory and orienting requirements for the solution) either by the interval method of allocation (with input data and result represented by numerical segments), or by the targeted solution movement method. The problem statements are determined by requirements for solutions and specifications of their applicability, which are set by an expert based on the results of the portraits of the target and achieved situations analysis. Unlike well-known methods for solving resource allocation problems as linear programming problems, the method of targeted solution movement is insensitive to small data changes and allows to find feasible solutions when the constraint system is incompatible. In single-resource allocation technologies, the segmented representation of data and results allows a more adequate (compared to a point representation) reflection of the state of system resource space and increases the practical applicability of solutions. The technologies discussed in the article are programmatically implemented and used to solve the problems of resource basement for decisions, budget design taking into account the priorities of expense items, etc. The technology of allocating a single resource is implemented in the form of an existing online cost planning service. The methodological consistency of the technologies is confirmed by the results of comparison with known technologies for solving the problems under consideration.

The cosymmetric approach to the analysis of spatial structure of populations with amount of taxis
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 4, pp. 661-671

We consider a mathematical model describing the competition for a heterogeneous resource of two populations on a one-dimensional area. Distribution of populations is governed by diffusion and directed migration, species growth obeys to the logistic law. We study the corresponding problem of nonlinear parabolic equations with variable coefficients (function of a resource, parameters of growth, diffusion and migration). Approach on the theory the cosymmetric dynamic systems of V. Yudovich is applied to the analysis of population patterns. Conditions on parameters for which the problem under investigation has nontrivial cosymmetry are analytically derived. Numerical experiment is used to find an emergence of continuous family of steady states when cosymmetry takes place. The numerical scheme is based on the finite-difference discretization in space using the balance method and integration on time by Runge-Kutta method. Impact of diffusive and migration parameters on scenarios of distribution of populations is studied. In the vicinity of the line, corresponding to cosymmetry, neutral curves for diffusive parameters are calculated. We present the mappings with areas of diffusive parameters which correspond to scenarios of coexistence and extinction of species. For a number of migration parameters and resource functions with one and two maxima the analysis of possible scenarios is carried out. Particularly, we found the areas of parameters for which the survival of each specie is determined by initial conditions. It should be noted that dynamics may be nontrivial: after starting decrease in densities of both species the growth of only one population takes place whenever another specie decreases. The analysis has shown that areas of the diffusive parameters corresponding to various scenarios of population patterns are grouped near the cosymmetry lines. The derived mappings allow to explain, in particular, effect of a survival of population due to increasing of diffusive mobility in case of starvation.

Investigation of individual-based mechanisms of single-species population dynamics by logical deterministic cellular automata
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 6, pp. 1279-1293

Investigation of logical deterministic cellular automata models of population dynamics allows to reveal detailed individual-based mechanisms. The search for such mechanisms is important in connection with ecological problems caused by overexploitation of natural resources, environmental pollution and climate change. Classical models of population dynamics have the phenomenological nature, as they are “black boxes”. Phenomenological models fundamentally complicate research of detailed mechanisms of ecosystem functioning. We have investigated the role of fecundity and duration of resources regeneration in mechanisms of population growth using four models of ecosystem with one species. These models are logical deterministic cellular automata and are based on physical axiomatics of excitable medium with regeneration. We have modeled catastrophic death of population arising from increasing of resources regeneration duration. It has been shown that greater fecundity accelerates population extinction. The investigated mechanisms are important for understanding mechanisms of sustainability of ecosystems and biodiversity conservation. Prospects of the presented modeling approach as a method of transparent multilevel modeling of complex systems are discussed.

Multistability for a mathematical model of a tritrophic system in a heterogeneous habitat
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 5, pp. 923-939

We consider a spatiotemporal model of a tritrophic system describing the interaction between prey, predator, and superpredator in an environment with nonuniform resource distribution. The model incorporates superpredator omnivory (Intraguild Predation, IGP), diffusion, and directed migration (taxis), the latter modeled using a logarithmic function of resource availability and prey density. The primary focus is on analyzing the multistability of the system and the role of cosymmetry in the formation of continuous families of steady-state solutions. Using a numerical-analytical approach, we study both spatially homogeneous and inhomogeneous steady-state solutions. It is established that under additional relations between the parameters governing local predator interactions and diffusion coefficients, the system exhibits cosymmetry, leading to the emergence of a family of stable steady-state solutions proportional to the resource function. We demonstrate that the cosymmetry is independent of the resource function in the case of a heterogeneous environment. The stability of stationary distributions is investigated using spectral methods. Violation of the cosymmetry conditions results in the breakdown of the solution family and the emergence of isolated equilibria, as well as prolonged transient dynamics reflecting the system’s “memory” of the vanished states. Depending on initial conditions and parameters, the system exhibits transitions to single-predator regimes (survival of either the predator or superpredator) or predator coexistence. Numerical experiments based on the method of lines, which involves finite difference discretization in space and Runge –Kutta integration in time, confirm the system’s multistability and illustrate the disappearance of solution families when cosymmetry is broken.

An agent-based model of social dynamics using swarm intelligence approaches
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 6, pp. 1513-1527

The paper considers the application of swarm intelligence technology to build agent-based simulation models. As an example, a minimal model is constructed illustrating the influence of information influences on the rules of behavior of agents in the simplest model of competition between two populations, whose agents perform the simplest task of transferring a resource from a mobile source to their territory. The algorithm for the movement of agents in the model space is implemented on the basis of the classical particle swarm algorithm. Agents have a life cycle, that is, the processes of birth and death are taken into account. The model takes into account information processes that determine the target functions of the behavior of newly appeared agents. These processes (training and poaching) are determined by information influences from populations. Under certain conditions, a third population arises in the agent system. Agents of such a population informatively influence agents of other populations in a certain radius around themselves, changing.

As a result of the conducted simulation experiments, it was shown that the following final states are realized in the system: displacement of a new population by others, coexistence of a new population and other populations and the absence of such a population. It has been shown that with an increase in the radius of influence of agents, the population with changed rules of behavior displaces all others. It is also shown that in the case of a hard-to-access resource, the strategy of luring agents of a competing population is more profitable.
