Numerical approach and parallel implementation for computer simulation of stacked long Josephson Junctions
Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 4, pp. 593-604Views (last year): 7. Citations: 6 (RSCI).We consider a model of stacked long Josephson junctions (LJJ), which consists of alternating superconducting and dielectric layers. The model takes into account the inductive and capacitive coupling between the neighbor junctions. The model is described by a system of nonlinear partial differential equations with respect to the phase differences and the voltage of LJJ, with appropriate initial and boundary conditions. The numerical solution of this system of equations is based on the use of standard three-point finite-difference formulae for discrete approximations in the space coordinate, and the applying the four-step Runge-Kutta method for solving the Cauchy problem obtained. Designed parallel algorithm is implemented by means of the MPI technology (Message Passing Interface). In the paper, the mathematical formulation of the problem is given, numerical scheme and a method of calculation of the current-voltage characteristics of the LJJ system are described. Two variants of parallel implementation are presented. The influence of inductive and capacitive coupling between junctions on the structure of the current-voltage characteristics is demonstrated. The results of methodical calculations with various parameters of length and number of Josephson junctions in the LJJ stack depending on the number of parallel computing nodes, are presented. The calculations have been performed on multiprocessor clusters HybriLIT and CICC of Multi-Functional Information and Computing Complex (Laboratory of Information Technologies, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna). The numerical results are discussed from the viewpoint of the effectiveness of presented approaches of the LJJ system numerical simulation in parallel. It has been shown that one of parallel algorithms provides the 9 times speedup of calculations.

Representation of an invariant measure of irreducible discrete-time Markov chain with a finite state space by a set of opposite directed trees
Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 2, pp. 221-226Views (last year): 1.A problem of finding of an invariant measure of irreducible discrete-time Markov chain with a finite state space is considered. There is a unique invariant measure for such Markov chain that can be multiplied by an arbitrary constant. A representation of a Markov chain by a directed graph is considered. Each state is represented by a vertex, and each conditional transition probability is represented by a directed edge. It is proved that an invariant measure for each state is a sum of $n^{n−2}$ non-negative summands, where $n$ is a cardinality of state space. Each summand is a product of $n − 1$ conditional transition probabilities and is represented by an opposite directed tree that includes all vertices. The root represents the considered state. The edges are directed to the root. This result leads to methods of analyses and calculation of an invariant measure that is based on a graph theory.

Cellular automata methods in mathematical physics classical problems solving on hexagonal grid. Part 1
Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 2, pp. 167-186Views (last year): 6.The paper has methodical character; it is devoted to three classic partial differential equations (Laplace, Diffusion and Wave) solution using simple numerical methods in terms of Cellular Automata. Special attention was payed to the matter conservation law and the offensive effect of excessive hexagonal symmetry.
It has been shown that in contrary to finite-difference approach, in spite of terminological equivalence of CA local transition function to the pattern of computing double layer explicit method, CA approach contains the replacement of matrix technique by iterative ones (for instance, sweep method for three diagonal matrixes). This suggests that discretization of boundary conditions for CA-cells needs more rigid conditions.
The correct local transition function (LTF) of the boundary cells, which is valid at least for the boundaries of the rectangular and circular shapes have been firstly proposed and empirically given for the hexagonal grid and the conservative boundary conditions. The idea of LTF separation into «internal», «boundary» and «postfix» have been proposed. By the example of this problem the value of the Courant-Levy constant was re-evaluated as the CA convergence speed ratio to the solution, which is given at a fixed time, and to the rate of the solution change over time.

Bicompact schemes for gas dynamics problems: introducing complex domains using the free boundary method
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 3, pp. 487-504This work is dedicated to application of bicompact schemes to numerical solution of evolutionary hyperbolic equations. The main advantage of this class of schemes lies in combination of two beneficial properties: the first one is spatial approximation of high even order on a stencil that always occupies only one mesh cell; the second one is spectral resolution which is better in comparison to classic compact finite-difference schemes of the same order of spatial approximation. One feature of bicompact schemes is considered: their spatial approximation is rigidly tied to Cartesian meshes (with parallelepiped-shaped cells in three-dimensional case). This feature makes rather challenging any application of bicompact schemes to problems with complex computational domains as treated in the framework of unstructured meshes. This problem is proposed to be solved using well-known methods for treating complex-shaped boundaries and their corresponding boundary conditions on Cartesian meshes. The generalization of bicompact schemes on problems in geometrically complex domains is made in case of gas dynamics problems and Euler equations. The free boundary method is chosen as a particular tool to introduce the influence of arbitrary-shaped solid boundaries on gas flows on Cartesian meshes. A brief description of this method is given, its governing equations are written down. Bicompact schemes of fourth order of approximation in space with locally one-dimensional splitting are constructed for equations of the free boundary method. Its compensation flux is discretized with second order of accuracy. Time stepping in the obtained schemes is done with the implicit Euler method and the third order accurate $L$-stable stiffly accurate three-stage singly diagonally implicit Runge–Kutta method. The designed bicompact schemes are tested on three two-dimensional problems: stationary supersonic flows with Mach number three past one circular cylinder and past three circular cylinders; the non-stationary interaction of planar shock wave with a circular cylinder in a channel with planar parallel walls. The obtained results are in a good agreement with other works: influence of solid bodies on gas flows is physically correct, pressure in control points on solid surfaces is calculated with the accuracy appropriate to the chosen mesh resolution and level of numerical dissipation.

Structural models of product in CAD-systems
Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 5, pp. 1079-1091Computer-aided assembly planning of complex products is an important area of modern information technology. The sequence of assembly and decomposition of the product into assembly units largely depend on the mechanical structure of a technical system (machine, mechanical device, etc.). In most modern research, the mechanical structure of products is modeled using a graph of connections and its various modifications. The coordination of parts during assembly can be achieved by implementing several connections at the same time. This generates a $k$-ary basing relation on a set of product parts, which cannot be correctly described by graph means. A hypergraph model of the mechanical structure of a product is proposed. Modern discrete manufacturing uses sequential coherent assembly operations. The mathematical description of such operations is the normal contraction of edges of the hypergraph model. The sequence of contractions that transform the hypergraph into a point is a description of the assembly plan. Hypergraphs for which such a transformation exists are called $s$-hypergraphs. $S$-hypergraphs are correct mathematical models of the mechanical structures of any assembled products. A theorem on necessary conditions for the contractibility of $s$-hypergraphs is given. It is shown that the necessary conditions are not sufficient. An example of a noncontractible hypergraph for which the necessary conditions are satisfied is given. This means that the design of a complex technical system may contain hidden structural errors that make assembly of the product impossible. Therefore, finding sufficient conditions for contractibility is an important task. Two theorems on sufficient conditions for contractibility are proved. They provide a theoretical basis for developing an efficient computational procedure for finding all $s$-subgraphs of an $s$-hypergraph. An $s$-subgraph is a model of any part of a product that can be assembled independently. These are, first of all, assembly units of various levels of hierarchy. The set of all $s$-subgraphs of an $s$-hypergraph, ordered by inclusion, is a lattice. This model can be used to synthesize all possible sequences of assembly and disassembly of a product and its components. The lattice model of the product allows you to analyze geometric obstacles during assembly using algebraic means.

Numerical simulation of frequency dependence of dielectric permittivity and electrical conductivity of saturated porous media
Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 5, pp. 765-773Views (last year): 8.This article represents numerical simulation technique for determining effective spectral electromagnetic properties (effective electrical conductivity and relative dielectric permittivity) of saturated porous media. Information about these properties is vastly applied during the interpretation of petrophysical exploration data of boreholes and studying of rock core samples. The main feature of the present paper consists in the fact, that it involves three-dimensional saturated digital rock models, which were constructed based on the combined data considering microscopic structure of the porous media and the information about capillary equilibrium of oil-water mixture in pores. Data considering microscopic structure of the model are obtained by means of X-ray microscopic tomography. Information about distributions of saturating fluids is based on hydrodynamic simulations with density functional technique. In order to determine electromagnetic properties of the numerical model time-domain Fourier transform of Maxwell equations is considered. In low frequency approximation the problem can be reduced to solving elliptic equation for the distribution of complex electric potential. Finite difference approximation is based on discretization of the model with homogeneous isotropic orthogonal grid. This discretization implies that each computational cell contains exclusively one medium: water, oil or rock. In order to obtain suitable numerical model the distributions of saturating components is segmented. Such kind of modification enables avoiding usage of heterogeneous grids and disregards influence on the results of simulations of the additional techniques, required in order to determine properties of cells, filled with mixture of media. Corresponding system of differential equations is solved by means of biconjugate gradient stabilized method with multigrid preconditioner. Based on the results of complex electric potential computations average values of electrical conductivity and relative dielectric permittivity is calculated. For the sake of simplicity, this paper considers exclusively simulations with no spectral dependence of conductivities and permittivities of model components. The results of numerical simulations of spectral dependence of effective characteristics of heterogeneously saturated porous media (electrical conductivity and relative dielectric permittivity) in broad range of frequencies and multiple water saturations are represented in figures and table. Efficiency of the presented approach for determining spectral electrical properties of saturated rocks is discussed in conclusion.

Difference scheme for solving problems of hydrodynamics for large grid Peclet numbers
Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 5, pp. 833-848The paper discusses the development and application of the accounting rectangular cell fullness method with material substance, in particular, a liquid, to increase the smoothness and accuracy of a finite-difference solution of hydrodynamic problems with a complex shape of the boundary surface. Two problems of computational hydrodynamics are considered to study the possibilities of the proposed difference schemes: the spatial-twodimensional flow of a viscous fluid between two coaxial semi-cylinders and the transfer of substances between coaxial semi-cylinders. Discretization of diffusion and convection operators was performed on the basis of the integro-interpolation method, taking into account taking into account the fullness of cells and without it. It is proposed to use a difference scheme, for solving the problem of diffusion – convection at large grid Peclet numbers, that takes into account the cell population function, and a scheme on the basis of linear combination of the Upwind and Standard Leapfrog difference schemes with weight coefficients obtained by minimizing the approximation error at small Courant numbers. As a reference, an analytical solution describing the Couette – Taylor flow is used to estimate the accuracy of the numerical solution. The relative error of calculations reaches 70% in the case of the direct use of rectangular grids (stepwise approximation of the boundaries), under the same conditions using the proposed method allows to reduce the error to 6%. It is shown that the fragmentation of a rectangular grid by 2–8 times in each of the spatial directions does not lead to the same increase in the accuracy that numerical solutions have, obtained taking into account the fullness of the cells. The proposed difference schemes on the basis of linear combination of the Upwind and Standard Leapfrog difference schemes with weighting factors of 2/3 and 1/3, respectively, obtained by minimizing the order of approximation error, for the diffusion – convection problem have a lower grid viscosity and, as a corollary, more precisely, describe the behavior of the solution in the case of large grid Peclet numbers.

Solution to a two-dimensional nonlinear heat equation using null field method
Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 6, pp. 1449-1467The paper deals with a heat wave motion problem for a degenerate second-order nonlinear parabolic equation with power nonlinearity. The considered boundary condition specifies in a plane the motion equation of the circular zero front of the heat wave. A new numerical-analytical algorithm for solving the problem is proposed. A solution is constructed stepby- step in time using difference time discretization. At each time step, a boundary value problem for the Poisson equation corresponding to the original equation at a fixed time is considered. This problem is, in fact, an inverse Cauchy problem in the domain whose initial boundary is free of boundary conditions and two boundary conditions (Neumann and Dirichlet) are specified on a current boundary (heat wave). A solution of this problem is constructed as the sum of a particular solution to the nonhomogeneous Poisson equation and a solution to the corresponding Laplace equation satisfying the boundary conditions. Since the inhomogeneity depends on the desired function and its derivatives, an iterative solution procedure is used. The particular solution is sought by the collocation method using inhomogeneity expansion in radial basis functions. The inverse Cauchy problem for the Laplace equation is solved by the null field method as applied to a circular domain with a circular hole. This method is used for the first time to solve such problem. The calculation algorithm is optimized by parallelizing the computations. The parallelization of the computations allows us to realize effectively the algorithm on high performance computing servers. The algorithm is implemented as a program, which is parallelized by using the OpenMP standard for the C++ language, suitable for calculations with parallel cycles. The effectiveness of the algorithm and the robustness of the program are tested by the comparison of the calculation results with the known exact solution as well as with the numerical solution obtained earlier by the authors with the use of the boundary element method. The implemented computational experiment shows good convergence of the iteration processes and higher calculation accuracy of the proposed new algorithm than of the previously developed one. The solution analysis allows us to select the radial basis functions which are most suitable for the proposed algorithm.

Numerical modeling of the natural convection of a non-Newtonian fluid in a closed cavity
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 1, pp. 59-72In this paper, a time-dependent natural convective heat transfer in a closed square cavity filled with non- Newtonian fluid was considered in the presence of an isothermal energy source located on the lower wall of the region under consideration. The vertical boundaries were kept at constant low temperature, while the horizontal walls were completely insulated. The behavior of a non-Newtonian fluid was described by the Ostwald de Ville power law. The process under study was described by transient partial differential equations using dimensionless non-primitive variables “stream function – vorticity – temperature”. This method allows excluding the pressure field from the number of unknown parameters, while the non-dimensionalization allows generalizing the obtained results to a variety of physical formulations. The considered mathematical model with the corresponding boundary conditions was solved on the basis of the finite difference method. The algebraic equation for the stream function was solved by the method of successive lower relaxation. Discrete analogs of the vorticity equation and energy equation were solved by the Thomas algorithm. The developed numerical algorithm was tested in detail on a class of model problems and good agreement with other authors was achieved. Also during the study, the mesh sensitivity analysis was performed that allows choosing the optimal mesh.
As a result of numerical simulation of unsteady natural convection of a non-Newtonian power-law fluid in a closed square cavity with a local isothermal energy source, the influence of governing parameters was analyzed including the impact of the Rayleigh number in the range 104–106, power-law index $n = 0.6–1.4$, and also the position of the heating element on the flow structure and heat transfer performance inside the cavity. The analysis was carried out on the basis of the obtained distributions of streamlines and isotherms in the cavity, as well as on the basis of the dependences of the average Nusselt number. As a result, it was established that pseudoplastic fluids $(n < 1)$ intensify heat removal from the heater surface. The increase in the Rayleigh number and the central location of the heating element also correspond to the effective cooling of the heat source.

Numerical investigation of coherent and turbulent structures of light via nonlinear integral mappings
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 5, pp. 979-992The propagation of stable coherent entities of an electromagnetic field in nonlinear media with parameters varying in space can be described in the framework of iterations of nonlinear integral transformations. It is shown that for a set of geometries relevant to typical problems of nonlinear optics, numerical modeling by reducing to dynamical systems with discrete time and continuous spatial variables to iterates of local nonlinear Feigenbaum and Ikeda mappings and nonlocal diffusion-dispersion linear integral transforms is equivalent to partial differential equations of the Ginzburg–Landau type in a fairly wide range of parameters. Such nonlocal mappings, which are the products of matrix operators in the numerical implementation, turn out to be stable numerical- difference schemes, provide fast convergence and an adequate approximation of solutions. The realism of this approach allows one to take into account the effect of noise on nonlinear dynamics by superimposing a spatial noise specified in the form of a multimode random process at each iteration and selecting the stable wave configurations. The nonlinear wave formations described by this method include optical phase singularities, spatial solitons, and turbulent states with fast decay of correlations. The particular interest is in the periodic configurations of the electromagnetic field obtained by this numerical method that arise as a result of phase synchronization, such as optical lattices and self-organized vortex clusters.
