A problem-modeling environment for the numerical solution of the Boltzmann equation on a cluster architecture for analyzing gas-kinetic processes in the interelectrode gap of thermal emission converters
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 2, pp. 219-232

This paper is devoted to the application of the method of numerical solution of the Boltzmann equation for the solution of the problem of modeling the behavior of radionuclides in the cavity of the interelectric gap of a multielement electrogenerating channel. The analysis of gas-kinetic processes of thermionic converters is important for proving the design of the power-generating channel. The paper reviews two constructive schemes of the channel: with one- and two-way withdrawal of gaseous fission products into a vacuum-cesium system. The analysis uses a two-dimensional transport equation of the second-order accuracy for the solution of the left-hand side and the projection method for solving the right-hand side — the collision integral. In the course of the work, a software package was implemented that makes it possible to calculate on the cluster architecture by using the algorithm of parallelizing the left-hand side of the equation; the paper contains the results of the analysis of the dependence of the calculation efficiency on the number of parallel nodes. The paper contains calculations of data on the distribution of pressures of gaseous fission products in the gap cavity, calculations use various sets of initial pressures and flows; the dependency of the radionuclide pressure in the collector region was determined as a function of cesium pressures at the ends of the gap. The tests in the loop channel of a nuclear reactor confirm the obtained results.

About one version of the nodal method of characteristics
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 1, pp. 29-44

A variant of the inverse method of characteristics (IMH) is presented, in whose algorithm an additional fractional time step is introduced, which makes it possible to increase the accuracy of calculations due to a more accurate approximation of the characteristics. The calculation formulas of the modified method for the equations of the one-velocity model of a gas-liquid mixture are given, with the help of which one-dimensional and also flat test problems with self-similar solutions are calculated. When solving multidimensional problems, the original system of equations is split into a number of one-dimensional subsystems, for the calculation of which the inverse method of characteristics with a fractional time step is used. Using the proposed method, the following were calculated: the one-dimensional problem of the decay of an arbitrary discontinuity in a dispersed medium; a twodimensional problem of the interaction of a homogeneous gas-liquid flow with an obstacle with an attached shock wave, as well as a flow with a centered rarefaction wave. The results of numerical calculations of these problems are compared with self-similar solutions and their satisfactory agreement is noted. On the example of the Riemann problem with a shock wave, a comparison is made with a number of conservative, non-conservative, first and higher orders of accuracy schemes, from which, in particular, it follows that the presented calculation method, i. e. MIMC, quite competitive. Despite the fact that the application of MIMC requires many times more time than the original inverse method of characteristics (IMC), calculations can be carried out with an increased time step and, in some cases, more accurate results can be obtained. It is noted that the method with a fractional time step has advantages over the IMC in cases where the characteristics of the system are significantly curvilinear. For this reason, the use of MIMC, for example, for the Euler equations is inappropriate, since for the latter the characteristics within the time step differ little from straight lines.

Numerical investigation of the gas-condensate mixture flow in a porous medium
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 2, pp. 209-219

In the last decades, the development of methods for increasing the efficiency of hydrocarbon extraction in fields with unconventional reserves containing large amounts of gas condensate is of great importance. This makes important the development of methods of mathematical modeling that realistically describe physical processes in a gas-condensate mixture in a porous medium.

In the paper, a mathematical model which describes the dynamics of the pressure, velocity and concentration of the components of a two-component two-phase mixture entering a laboratory model of plast filled with a porous substance with known physicochemical properties is considered. The mathematical model is based on a system of nonlinear spatially one-dimensional partial differential equations with the corresponding initial and boundary conditions. Laboratory experiments show that during a finite time the system stabilizes, what gives a basis to proceed to the stationary formulation of the problem.

The numerical solution of the formulated system of ordinary differential equations is realized in the Maple environment on the basis of the Runge–Kutta procedure. It is shown that the physical parameters of the gascondensate mixture, which characterize the modeled system in the stabilization regime, obtained on this basis, are in good agreement with the available experimental data. This confirms the correctness of the chosen approach and the validity of its further application and development for computer modeling of physical processes in gas-condensate mixtures in a porous medium. The paper presents a mathematical formulation of the system of partial differential equations and of respective system stationary equations, describes the numerical approach, and discusses the numerical results obtained in comparison with experimental data.

  5. The problem of the combustion of a gas suspension with an inhomogeneous distribution of particles over space occurs exists for the coal dust suspension combustion in combustion chambers and burners. The inhomogeneous distribution of particles in space can significantly affect the combustion velocity of the aerosolve of coal dust. The purpose of the present work is the numerically study the effect of the inhomogeneous distribution of particles and the composition of the coal dust on the combustion velocity of the coal dust in the air.

The physical and mathematical model of combustion of air-coal dust mixture with an inhomogeneous distribution of coal dust particles over space has been developed. The physical and mathematical formulation of the problem took into account the release of combustible volatile components from the particles upon their heating, the subsequent reaction of volatile components with air, a heterogeneous reaction on the surface of the particles, and the dependence of the thermal conductivity of the gas on temperature.

A parametric study was made of the effect of mass concentration, the content of volatile and the particle size of coal dust on the burning speed of a suspension of coal dust in the air. It is shown that the burning rate is greater for particles with a lower content of volatile components. The influence of the spatial distribution of particles on the burning rate of the coal-air mixture is analyzed. It is shown that the propagation velocity of the combustion front with respect to the suspension with an inhomogeneous particle distribution is higher than the propagation speed of the combustion front with respect to the suspension with a homogeneous particle distribution.

Numerical simulation of inverse mode propagation in-situ combustion direct-flow waves
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 5, pp. 993-1006

One of the promising technologies for enhanced oil recovery in the development of unconventional oil reservoirs is the thermo-gas method. The method is based on the injection of an oxygen-containing mixture into the formation and its transformation into a highly efficient displacing agent miscible with the formation of oil due to spontaneous in-situ oxidative processes. In some cases, this method has great potential compared to other methods of enhanced oil recovery. This paper discusses some issues of the propagation of in-situ combustion waves. Depending on the parameters of the reservoir and the injected mixture, such waves can propagate in different modes. In this paper, only the direct-flow inverse propagation mode is considered. In this mode, the combustion wave propagates in the direction of the oxidant flow and the reaction front lags behind the heatwave, in which the substance (hydrocarbon fractions, porous skeleton, etc.) is heated to temperatures sufficient for the oxidation reaction to occur. The paper presents the results of an analytical study and numerical simulation of the structure of the inverse wave of in-situ combustion. in two-phase flow in a porous layer. Some simplifying assumptions about the thermal properties of fluid phases was accepted, which allow, on the one hand, to modify the in-situ combustion model observable for analysis, and with another is to convey the main features of this process. The solution of the “running wave” type is considered and the conditions of its implementation are specified. Selected two modes of reaction trailing front regime in-situ combustion waves: hydrodynamic and kinetic. Numerical simulation of the in-situ combustion wave propagation was carried out with using the thermohydrodynamical simulator developed for the numerical integration of non-isothermal multicomponent filtration flows accompanied by phase transitions and chemical reaction.

Numerical simulation of air cooling the tank to desublimate components of the gas mixture
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 3, pp. 521-529

For the production of purified final product in chemical engineering used the process of desublimation. For this purpose, the tank is cooled by liquid nitrogen or cold air. The mixture of gases flows inside the tank and is cooled to the condensation or desublimation temperature some components of the gas mixture. The condensed components are deposited on the walls of the tank. The article presents a mathematical model to calculate the cooling air tanks for desublimation of vapours. A mathematical model based on equations of gas dynamics and describes the movement of cooled air in the duct and the heat exchanger with heat exchange and friction. The heat of the phase transition is taken into account in the boundary condition for the heat equation by setting the heat flux. Heat transfer in the walls of the pipe and in the tank wall is described by the nonstationary heat conduction equations. The solution of the system of equations is carried out numerically. The equations of gas dynamics are solved by the method of S. K. Godunov. The heat equation are solved by an implicit finite difference scheme. The article presents the results of calculations of the cooling of two successively installed tanks. The initial temperature of the tanks is equal to 298 K. Cold air flows through the tubing, through the heat exchanger of the first tank, then through conduit to the heat exchanger second tank. During the 20 minutes of tank cool down to operating temperature. The temperature of the walls of the tanks differs from the air temperature not more than 1 degree. The flow of cooling air allows to maintain constant temperature of the walls of the tank in the process of desublimation components from a gas mixture. The results of analytical evaluation of the time of cooling tank and temperature difference between the tank walls and air with the vapor desublimation. Analytical assessment is based on determining the time of heat relaxation temperature of the tank walls. The results of evaluations are satisfactorily coincide with the results of calculations by the present model. The proposed approach allows calculating the cooling tanks with a flow of cold air supplied via the pipeline system.

Wave and relaxation effects during the outflow of a gas suspension partially filling a cylindrical channel
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 6, pp. 1495-1506

The paper is devoted to the study of wave and relaxation effects during the pulsed outflow of a gas mixture with a high content of solid particles from a cylindrical channel during its initial partial filling. The problem is formulated in a two-speed two-temperature formulation and was solved numerically by the hybrid large-particle method of the second order of approximation. The numerical algorithm is implemented in the form of parallel computing using basic Free Pascal language tools. The applicability and accuracy of the method for wave flows of concentrated gas-particles mixtures is confirmed by comparison with test asymptotically accurate solutions. The calculation error on a grid of low detail in the characteristic flow zones of a two-phase medium was 10-6 . . . 10-5.

Based on the wave diagram, the analysis of the physical pattern of the outflow of a gas suspension partially filling a cylindrical channel is performed. It is established that, depending on the degree of initial filling of the channel, various outflow modes are formed. The first mode is implemented with a small degree of loading of the high-pressure chamber, at which the left boundary of the gas-particles mixture crosses the outlet section before the arrival of the rarefaction wave reflected from the bottom of the channel. At the same time, the maximum value of the mass flow rate of the mixture is achieved. Other modes are formed in cases of a larger initial filling of the channel, when the rarefaction waves reflected from the bottom of the channel interact with the gas suspension layer and reduce the intensity of its outflow.

The influence of relaxation properties with changing particle size on the dynamics of a limited layer of a gas-dispersed medium is studied. Comparison of the outflow of a limited gas suspension layer with different particle sizes shows that for small particles (the Stokes number is less than 0.001), an anomalous phenomenon of the simultaneous existence of shock wave structures in the supersonic and subsonic flow of gas and suspension is observed. With an increase in the size of dispersed inclusions, the compaction jumps in the region of the two-phase mixture are smoothed out, and for particles (the Stokes number is greater than 0.1), they practically disappear. At the same time, the shock-wave configuration of the supersonic gas flow at the outlet of the channel is preserved, and the positions and boundaries of the energy-carrying volumes of the gas suspension are close when the particle sizes change.

Numerical simulation of combustion of a polydisperse suspension of coal dust in a spherical volume
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 3, pp. 531-539

The physical and mathematical model of combustion of the polydisperse suspension of coal dust was developed. The formulation of the problem takes into account the evaporation of particle volatile components during the heating, the particle emitting and the gas heat transfer to a surrounding area via the sphere volume side surface, heat transfer coefficient as a function of temperature. The polydisperse of coal-dust is taken into consideration. N — the number of fraction. Fractions are subdivided into inert and reacting particles. The oxidizer mass balance equation takes into consideration the oxidizer consumption per each reaction (heterogeneous on the particle surface and homogenous in the gas). Exothermic chemical reactions in gas are determined by Arrhenius equation with second-order kinetics. The heterogeneous reaction on the particle surface was first-order reaction. The numerical simulation was solved by Runge–Kutta–Merson method. Reliability of the calculations was verified by solving the partial problems. During the numerical calculation the percentage composition of inert and reacting particles in coal-dust and their total mass were changed for each simulation. We have determined the influence of the percentage composition of inert and reacting particles on burning characteristics of polydisperse coal-dust methane-air mixture. The results showed that the percent increase of volatile components in the mixture lead to the increase of total pressure in the volume. The value of total pressure decreases with the increasing of the inert components in the mixture. It has been determined that there is the extremism radius value of coarse particles by which the maximum pressure reaches the highest value.

Simulation of the initial stage of a two-component rarefied gas mixture outflow through a thin slit into vacuum
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 4, pp. 747-759

The paper considers the process of flow formation in an outflow of a binary gas mixture through a thin slit into vacuum. An approach to modeling the flows of rarefied gas mixtures in the transient regime is proposed based on the direct solution of the Boltzmann kinetic equation, in which the conservative projection method is used to calculate the collision integrals. Calculation formulas are provided; the calculation procedure is described in detail in relation to the flow of a binary gas mixture. The Lennard–Jones potential is used as an interaction potential of molecules. A software modeling environment has been developed that makes it possible to study the flows of gas mixtures in a transitional regime on systems of cluster architecture. Due to the use of code parallelization technologies, an acceleration of calculations by 50–100 times was obtained. Numerical simulation of a two-dimensional outflow of a binary argon-neon gas mixture from a vessel into vacuum through a thin slit is carried out for various values of the Knudsen number. The graphs of the dependence of gas mixture components output flow on time in the process of establishing the flow are obtained. Non-stationary regions of strong separation of gas mixture components, in which the molecular densities ratio reaches 10 or more, were discovered. The discovered effect can have applications in the problem of gas mixtures separation.
