A simulation model of connected automated vehicles platoon dynamics in a heterogeneous traffic flow
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 5, pp. 1041-1058

The gradual incorporation of automated vehicles into the global transport networks leads to the need to develop tools to assess the impact of this process on various aspects of traffic. This implies a more organized movement of automated vehicles which can form uniformly moving platoons. The influence of the formation and movement of these platoons on the dynamics of traffic flow is of great interest. The currently most developed traffic flow models are based on the cellular automaton approach. They are mainly developed in the direction of increasing accuracy. This inevitably leads to the complication of models, which in their modern form have significantly moved away from the original philosophy of cellular automata, which implies simplicity and schematicity of models at the level of evolution rules, leading, however, to a complex organized behavior of the system. In the present paper, a simulation model of connected automated vehicles platoon dynamics in a heterogeneous transport system is proposed, consisting of two types of agents (vehicles): human-driven and automated. The description of the temporal evolution of the system is based on modified rules 184 and 240 for elementary cellular automata. Human-driven vehicles move according to rule 184 with the addition of accidental braking, the probability of which depends on the distance to the vehicle in front. For automated vehicles, a combination of rules is used depending on the type of nearest neighbors, regardless of the distance to them, which brings non-local interaction to the model. At the same time, it is considered that a group of sequentially moving connected automated vehicles can form an organized platoon. The influence of the ratio of types of vehicles in the system on the characteristics of the traffic flow during free movement on a circular one-lane and two-lane roads, as well as in the presence of a traffic light, is studied. The simulation results show that the effect of platoon formation is significant for a freeway traffic flow; the presence of a traffic light reduces the positive effect by about half. The movement of platoons of connected automated vehicles on two-lane roads with the possibility of lane changing was also studied. It is shown that considering the types of neighboring vehicles (automated or human-driven) when changing lanes for automated vehicles has a positive effect on the characteristics of the traffic flow.

Approaches to creating precise geometric models of steel wire ropes in the Gmsh environment using the OpenCascade Core Technology engine
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 6, pp. 1399-1415

A review of the problems of preparing accurate geometric models of steel ropes based on mathematical models without significant simplifications, taking into account the intended purpose of the model, is carried out. Possible approaches to the generation of precise geometric models of steel ropes that have no fundamental limitations on their integration in computational domains and the subsequent construction of finite element models based on them are shown. A generalized parameterized geometric model of single and double twist ropes and its algorithmic implementation using the OpenCASCADE Core Technology geometric modeling kernel in the Gmsh environment (open source software) is considered. The problems of using generic tabular data from steel rope assortment standards as initial data for constructing geometric models are considered. Methods of preliminary verification of collisions of a geometric model based on the initial data of a geometric model are given. Post-verification methods based on Boolean operations over rope wire bodies are given to identify incorrect results of generating models of wire bodies with curvilinear side surfaces based on the algorithm of sequential hierarchical construction of individual wires of single strand and sequential copying of it. Various methods of the process of constructing geometric models of rope wires by extrusion are shown: through a sequence of generatrix with the formation of a body limited by curvilinear surfaces, through a sequence of generatrix with the formation of a body limited by linearly approximated surfaces, and extrusion of one generatrix along a single guideline. The computational complexity of the geometric model generation and the required volume of RAM for the two most universal methods of creating a body of wire are investigated. A method for estimating the value of the step of the arrangement of the generatrix of a single wire is shown, and the influence of its value on the computational complexity of the procedure of wire construction is investigated. Recommendations are given for choosing the value of the radial gap between the layers of wires. An algorithmic implementation of the method for searching for collisions of a geometric model of a steel rope in a non-interactive mode is shown. Approaches to the formation of procedures for processing collisions are proposed. Approaches presented in the article can be implemented in the form of software modules for execution in the Gmsh environment, as well as for another environment using the OpenCascade Core Technology geometric modeling kernel. Such modules allow automation of the construction of accurate geometric models of steel ropes in any configuration without fundamental restrictions on subsequent use, both stand-alone and in the form of objects (primitives) suitable for integration in a third-party model.

To the problem of program implementation of the potential-streaming method of description of physical and chemical process
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 6, pp. 817-832

In the framework of modern non-equilibrium thermodynamics (macroscopic approach of description and mathematical modeling of the dynamics of real physical and chemical processes), the authors developed a potential- flow method for describing and mathematical modeling of real physical and chemical processes applicable in the general case of real macroscopic physicochemical systems. In accordance with the potential-flow method, the description and mathematical modeling of these processes consists in determining through the interaction potentials of the thermodynamic forces driving these processes and the kinetic matrix determined by the kinetic properties of the system in question, which in turn determine the dynamics of the course of physicochemical processes in this system under the influence of the thermodynamic forces in it. Knowing the thermodynamic forces and the kinetic matrix of the system, the rates of the flow of physicochemical processes in the system are determined, and according to these conservation laws the rates of change of its state coordinates are determined. It turns out in this way a closed system of equations of physical and chemical processes in the system. Knowing the interaction potentials in the system, the kinetic matrices of its simple subsystems (individual processes that are conjugate to each other and not conjugate with other processes), the coefficients entering into the conservation laws, the initial state of the system under consideration, external flows into the system, one can obtain a complete dynamics of physicochemical processes in the system. However, in the case of a complex physico-chemical system in which a large number of physicochemical processes take place, the dimension of the system of equations for these processes becomes appropriate. Hence, the problem arises of automating the formation of the described system of equations of the dynamics of physical and chemical processes in the system under consideration. In this article, we develop a library of software data types that implement a user-defined physicochemical system at the level of its design scheme (coordinates of the state of the system, energy degrees of freedom, physico-chemical processes, flowing, external flows and the relationship between these listed components) and algorithms references in these types of data, as well as calculation of the described system parameters. This library includes both program types of the calculation scheme of the user-defined physicochemical system, and program data types of the components of this design scheme (coordinates of the system state, energy degrees of freedom, physicochemical processes, flowing, external flows). The relationship between these components is carried out by reference (index) addressing. This significantly speeds up the calculation of the system characteristics, because faster access to data.

Hypergraph approach in the decomposition of complex technical systems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 5, pp. 1007-1022

The article considers a mathematical model of decomposition of a complex product into assembly units. This is an important engineering problem, which affects the organization of discrete production and its operational management. A review of modern approaches to mathematical modeling and automated computer-aided of decompositions is given. In them, graphs, networks, matrices, etc. serve as mathematical models of structures of technical systems. These models describe the mechanical structure as a binary relation on a set of system elements. The geometrical coordination and integrity of machines and mechanical devices during the manufacturing process is achieved by means of basing. In general, basing can be performed on several elements simultaneously. Therefore, it represents a variable arity relation, which can not be correctly described in terms of binary mathematical structures. A new hypergraph model of mechanical structure of technical system is described. This model allows to give an adequate formalization of assembly operations and processes. Assembly operations which are carried out by two working bodies and consist in realization of mechanical connections are considered. Such operations are called coherent and sequential. This is the prevailing type of operations in modern industrial practice. It is shown that the mathematical description of such operation is normal contraction of an edge of the hypergraph. A sequence of contractions transforming the hypergraph into a point is a mathematical model of the assembly process. Two important theorems on the properties of contractible hypergraphs and their subgraphs proved by the author are presented. The concept of s-hypergraphs is introduced. S-hypergraphs are the correct mathematical models of mechanical structures of any assembled technical systems. Decomposition of a product into assembly units is defined as cutting of an s-hypergraph into s-subgraphs. The cutting problem is described in terms of discrete mathematical programming. Mathematical models of structural, topological and technological constraints are obtained. The objective functions are proposed that formalize the optimal choice of design solutions in various situations. The developed mathematical model of product decomposition is flexible and open. It allows for extensions that take into account the characteristics of the product and its production.

  5. The present article describes the authors’ model of construction of the distributed computer network and realization in it of the distributed calculations which are carried out within the limits of the software-information environment providing management of the information, automated and engineering systems of intellectual buildings. The presented model is based on the functional approach with encapsulation of the non-determined calculations and various side effects in monadic calculations that allows to apply all advantages of functional programming to a choice and execution of scenarios of management of various aspects of life activity of buildings and constructions. Besides, the described model can be used together with process of intellectualization of technical and sociotechnical systems for increase of level of independence of decision-making on management of values of parameters of the internal environment of a building, and also for realization of methods of adaptive management, in particular application of various techniques and approaches of an artificial intellect. An important part of the model is a directed acyclic graph, which is an extension of the blockchain with the ability to categorically reduce the cost of transactions taking into account the execution of smart contracts. According to the authors it will allow one to realize new technologies and methods — the distributed register on the basis of the directed acyclic graph, calculation on edge and the hybrid scheme of construction of artificial intellectual systems — and all this together can be used for increase of efficiency of management of intellectual buildings. Actuality of the presented model is based on necessity and importance of translation of processes of management of life cycle of buildings and constructions in paradigm of Industry 4.0 and application for management of methods of an artificial intellect with universal introduction of independent artificial cognitive agents. Model novelty follows from cumulative consideration of the distributed calculations within the limits of the functional approach and hybrid paradigm of construction of artificial intellectual agents for management of intellectual buildings. The work is theoretical. The article will be interesting to scientists and engineers working in the field of automation of technological and industrial processes both within the limits of intellectual buildings, and concerning management of complex technical and social and technical systems as a whole.

    Intersection in a smart city
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 3, pp. 347-358

Intersections present a very demanding environment for all the parties involved. Challenges arise from complex vehicle trajectories; occasional absence of lane markings to guide vehicles; split phases that prevent determining who has the right of way; invisible vehicle approaches; illegal movements; simultaneous interactions among pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles. Unsurprisingly, most demonstrations of AVs are on freeways; but the full potential of automated vehicles — personalized transit, driverless taxis, delivery vehicles — can only be realized when AVs can sense the intersection environment to efficiently and safely maneuver through intersections.

AVs are equipped with an array of on-board sensors to interpret and suitably engage with their surroundings. Advanced algorithms utilize data streams from such sensors to support the movement of autonomous vehicles through a wide range of traffic and climatic conditions. However, there exist situations, in which additional information about the upcoming traffic environment would be beneficial to better inform the vehicles’ in-built tracking and navigation algorithms. A potential source for such information is from in-pavement sensors at an intersection that can be used to differentiate between motorized and non-motorized modes and track road user movements and interactions. This type of information, in addition to signal phasing, can be provided to the AV as it approaches an intersection, and incorporated into an improved prior for the probabilistic algorithms used to classify and track movement in the AV’s field of vision.

This paper is concerned with the situation in which there are objects that are not visible to the AV. The driving context is that of an intersection, and the lack of visibility is due to other vehicles that obstruct the AV’s view, leading to the creation of blind zones. Such obstruction is commonplace in intersections.

    Our objective is:

    1) inform a vehicle crossing the intersection about its potential blind zones;

    2) inform the vehicle about the presence of agents (other vehicles, bicyclists or pedestrians) in those blind zones.

System modeling, risks evaluation and optimization of a distributed computer system
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 6, pp. 1349-1359

The article deals with the problem of a distributed system operation reliability. The system core is an open integration platform that provides interaction of varied software for modeling gas transportation. Some of them provide an access through thin clients on the cloud technology “software as a service”. Mathematical models of operation, transmission and computing are to ensure the operation of an automated dispatching system for oil and gas transportation. The paper presents a system solution based on the theory of Markov random processes and considers the stable operation stage. The stationary operation mode of the Markov chain with continuous time and discrete states is described by a system of Chapman–Kolmogorov equations with respect to the average numbers (mathematical expectations) of the objects in certain states. The objects of research are both system elements that are present in a large number – thin clients and computing modules, and individual ones – a server, a network manager (message broker). Together, they are interacting Markov random processes. The interaction is determined by the fact that the transition probabilities in one group of elements depend on the average numbers of other elements groups.

The authors propose a multi-criteria dispersion model of risk assessment for such systems (both in the broad and narrow sense, in accordance with the IEC standard). The risk is the standard deviation of estimated object parameter from its average value. The dispersion risk model makes possible to define optimality criteria and whole system functioning risks. In particular, for a thin client, the following is calculated: the loss profit risk, the total risk of losses due to non-productive element states, and the total risk of all system states losses.

Finally the paper proposes compromise schemes for solving the multi-criteria problem of choosing the optimal operation strategy based on the selected set of compromise criteria.

Modeling of the effective environment in the Republic of Tatarstan using transport data
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 2, pp. 395-404

Automated urban traffic monitoring systems are widely used to solve various tasks in intelligent transport systems of different regions. They include video enforcement, video surveillance, traffic management system, etc. Effective traffic management and rapid response to traffic incidents require continuous monitoring and analysis of information from these complexes, as well as time series forecasting for further anomaly detection in traffic flow. To increase the forecasting quality, data fusion from different sources is needed. It will reduce the forecasting error, related to possible incorrect values and data gaps. We implemented the approach for short-term and middle-term forecasting of traffic flow (5, 10, 15 min) based on data fusion from video enforcement and video surveillance systems. We made forecasting using different recurrent neural network architectures: LSTM, GRU, and bidirectional LSTM with one and two layers. We investigated the forecasting quality of bidirectional LSTM with 64 and 128 neurons in hidden layers. The input window size (1, 4, 12, 24, 48) was investigated. The RMSE value was used as a forecasting error. We got minimum RMSE = 0.032405 for basic LSTM with 64 neurons in the hidden layer and window size = 24.

Neuro-fuzzy model of fuzzy rules formation for objects state evaluation in conditions of uncertainty
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 3, pp. 477-492

This article solves the problem of constructing a neuro-fuzzy model of fuzzy rules formation and using them for objects state evaluation in conditions of uncertainty. Traditional mathematical statistics or simulation modeling methods do not allow building adequate models of objects in the specified conditions. Therefore, at present, the solution of many problems is based on the use of intelligent modeling technologies applying fuzzy logic methods. The traditional approach of fuzzy systems construction is associated with an expert attraction need to formulate fuzzy rules and specify the membership functions used in them. To eliminate this drawback, the automation of fuzzy rules formation, based on the machine learning methods and algorithms, is relevant. One of the approaches to solve this problem is to build a fuzzy neural network and train it on the data characterizing the object under study. This approach implementation required fuzzy rules type choice, taking into account the processed data specificity. In addition, it required logical inference algorithm development on the rules of the selected type. The algorithm steps determine the number and functionality of layers in the fuzzy neural network structure. The fuzzy neural network training algorithm developed. After network training the formation fuzzyproduction rules system is carried out. Based on developed mathematical tool, a software package has been implemented. On its basis, studies to assess the classifying ability of the fuzzy rules being formed have been conducted using the data analysis example from the UCI Machine Learning Repository. The research results showed that the formed fuzzy rules classifying ability is not inferior in accuracy to other classification methods. In addition, the logic inference algorithm on fuzzy rules allows successful classification in the absence of a part of the initial data. In order to test, to solve the problem of assessing oil industry water lines state fuzzy rules were generated. Based on the 303 water lines initial data, the base of 342 fuzzy rules was formed. Their practical approbation has shown high efficiency in solving the problem.
