    Modeling of nonlinear aeroelastic oscillations of a channel wall interacting with a pulsating viscous gas layer

    The mathematical model for aeroelastic oscillations of a narrow channel wall with a nonlinear-elastic suspension and interacting with a pulsating viscous gas layer is proposed. Within the framework of this model, the aeroelastic response of the channel wall and its phase response were determined and investigated. The authors simultaneously studied the influence of the nonlinear stiffness elastic suspension of the wall, compressibility and dissipative properties of gas, as well as the inertia of its motion on the wall oscillations. The model was elaborated based on the formulation and solution of the initial boundary-value plane problem of mathematical physics. The problem governing equations include the equations of dynamics for barotropic viscous gas, equation of dynamics for the rigid wall as the spring-mass nonlinear oscillator. Using the perturbation method, the asymptotic analysis of the problem was carried out. The solution of the equations of dynamics for the thin layer of viscous gas was obtained by the iteration method. As a result, the law of gas pressure distribution in the channel was determined and the initial problem of aeroelasticity was reduced to the study of the generalized Duffing equation. Its solution was realized by the harmonic balance method, which allowed us to determine the aeroelastic and phase responses of the channel wall in the form of implicit functions. The numerical study of these responses was carried out to evaluate the influence for inertia of gas motion and its compressibility, as well as a comparison of the results obtained with the special cases of creeping motion of viscous gas and incompressible viscous fluid. The results of this study have shown the importance of simultaneous consideration of compressibility and inertia of viscous gas motion when modeling aeroelastic oscillations of the considered channel wall.

    Traffic cellular automata model for mixed car and truck flow on multilane highways

    The objective of this article is to develop a model for a realistic description of a mixed flow of two types of vehicles (cars and trucks) on multi-lane highways, taking into account differences not only in the technical characteristics of vehicles (dimensions, maximum speed), but also differences in driving strategies. The article includes a literature review, including publications of recent years, confirming the relevance of modeling heterogeneous traffic flows.

    The new model takes into account that trucks have a lower maximum speed compared to cars and are slower to start. They are less maneuverable, so it is more difficult for them to change lanes. In addition, the movement of trucks can be regulated by some restrictive rules, for example, a ban on driving in left lanes.

    The model is based on the cellular automata theory, which allows for a comprehensive description of the features of individual flow components. At each time step, the state of the automaton cells is updated in two stages — changing lanes and moving forward. The algorithms of both substeps for cars and trucks differ. Each vehicle is assigned a number of parameters: vehicle type, length, maximum speed, lane change strategy, in-lane movement strategy.

    The model is implemented as a software package that allows simulating traffic on various sections of the road network — intersections, sections with narrowing and widening of the road, entrances and exits from the highway. In this work, a road section with a varying number of lanes and a straight multi-lane section with a virtual detector were selected for testing the model. The results are presented in the form of local speed-density and flow-density diagrams, as well as spatiotemporal speed diagrams.

    To test the model, a number of problems with different percentages of passenger cars and trucks are solved, which allows demonstrating a drop in the capacity of elements of the road network with an increase in the share of trucks in the flow. The cases of uniform distribution by lanes and the restriction to the right lane for trucks are simulated. The positive effect of introducing a ban on the movement of trucks in left lanes on a multi-lane highway is illustrated.

    Interaction of cytokine LIF with the lipidic matrix of membranes

    Integration of LIF protein into the bilayer lipid membrane causes the formation of ion channels. The data on activity of ion channels formed by recombinant protein from mouse and human origin are shown. Also the difference in the effect of LIF protein from eukaryotic and prokaryotic origin is shown.

    Numerical study of traffic flows by the hydrodynamic models

    The purpose of this paper is to generalize the macroscopic hydrodynamic vehicular traffic models by using the algorithm for constructing the adequate state equation — dependence the pressure from traffic density by taking into account the real experimental data (possibly using the parametric solutions for model equations). It is proved that this kind of state equation which closed model equations system and obtained from the experimentally observed form of the fundamental diagram — dependence the traffic intensity from its density, completely determines the all properties of the used phenomenological model.

    Electric field effects in chemical patterns

    Excitation waves are a prototype of self-organized dynamic patterns in non-equilibrium systems. They develop their own intrinsic dynamics resulting in travelling waves of various forms and shapes. Prominent examples are rotating spirals and scroll waves. It is an interesting and challenging task to find ways to control their behavior by applying external signals, upon which these propagating waves react. We apply external electric fields to such waves in the excitable Belousov–Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction. Remarkable effects include the change of wave speed, reversal of propagation direction, annihilation of counter-rotating spiral waves and reorientation of scroll wave filaments. These effects can be explained in numerical simulations, where the negatively charged inhibitor bromide plays an essential role. Electric field effects have also been investigated in biological excitable media such as the social amoebae Dictyostelium discoideum. Quite recently we have started to investigate electric field effect in the BZ reaction dissolved in an Aerosol OT water-in-oil microemulsion. A drift of complex patterns can be observed, and also the viscosity and electric conductivity change. We discuss the assumption that this system can act as a model for long range communication between neurons.

    Structural model of gold and silver fluorescent clusters

    Present work is dedicated to systematic study of equilibrium configurations of gold and silver clusters in size from 2 to 9 atoms. To the lowest energy configurations is performed calculation of electronic excitation spectra. All calculations are carried out within the framework of density functional theory (DFT) using the hybrid B3LYP functional and ECP LANL2DZ. Based on the analysis of the received electronic excitation spectra we try to confirm the assumption that small gold and silver clusters, capable of luminescence can be produced only in the presence of a stabilizing template. The authors show that without stabilization in the solution formed “flat” and “spherical” configuration whose spectra do not correspond to the experimental luminescence excitation spectra for DNA cluster complexes.

    Mathematical modeling of the age groups of employed peoples by the example of the southern regions of the Russian Far East

    The article focuses on a nonlinear mathematical model that describes the interaction of the different age groups of the employed population. The interactions are treated by analogy with population relationship (competition, discrimination, assistance, oppression, etc). Under interaction of peoples we mean the generalized social and economic mechanisms that cause related changes in the number of employees of different age groups. Three age groups of the employed population are considered. It is young specialists (15–29 years), workers with experience (30–49 years), the employees of pre-retirement and retirement age (50 and older). The estimation of model’s parameters for the southern regions of the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD) is executed by statistical data. Analysis of model scenarios allows us to conclude the observed number fluctuations of the different ages employees on the background of a stable total employed population may be a consequence of complex interactions between these groups of peoples. Computational experiments with the obtained values of the parameters allowed us to calculate the rate of decline and the aging of the working population and to determine the nature of the interaction between the age groups of employees that are not directly as reflected in the statistics. It was found that in FEFD the employed of 50 years and older are discriminated against by the young workers under 29, employed up to 29 and 30–49 years are in a partnership. It is shown in most developed regions (Primorsky and Khabarovsk Krai) there is “uniform” competition among different age groups of the employed population. For Primorsky Krai we were able to identify the mixing effect dynamics. It is a typical situation for systems in a state of structural adjustment. This effect is reflected in the fact the long cycles of employed population form with a significant decrease in migration inflows of employees 30–49 years. Besides, the change of migration is accompanied by a change of interaction type — from employment discrimination by the oldest of middle generation to discrimination by the middle of older generation. In less developed regions (Amur, Magadan and Jewish Autonomous Regions) there are lower values of migration balance of almost all age groups and discrimination by young workers up 29 years of other age groups and employment discrimination 30–49 years of the older generation.

    Optimization of a hull form for decrease ship resistance to movement

    Optimization of hull lines for the minimum resistance to movement is a problem of current interest in ship hydrodynamics. In practice, lines design is still to some extent an art. The usual approaches to decrease the ship resistance are based on the model experiment and/or CFD simulation, following the trial and error method. The paper presents a new method of in-detail hull form design based on the wave-based optimization approach. The method provides systematic variation of the hull geometrical form, which corresponds to alteration of longitudinal distribution of the hull volume, while its vertical volume distribution is fixed or highly controlled. It’s well known from the theoretical studies that the vertical distribution can't be optimized by condition of minimum wave resistance, thus it can be neglected for the optimization procedures. The method efficiency was investigated by application to the foreship of KCS, the well-known test object from the workshop Gothenburg-2000. The variations of the longitudinal distribution of the volume were set on the sectional area curve as finite volume increments and then transferred to the lines plan with the help of special frame transformation methods. The CFD towing simulations were carried out for the initial hull form and the six modified variants. According to the simulation results, examined modifications caused the resistance increments in the range 1.3–6.5 %. Optimization process was underpinned with the respective data analysis based on the new hypothesis, according to which, the resistance increments caused by separate longitudinal segments of hull form meet the principle of superposition. The achieved results, which are presented as the optimum distribution of volume present in the optimized designed hull form, which shows the interesting characteristics that its resistance has decrease by 8.9 % in respect to initial KCS hull form. Visualization of the wave patterns showed an attenuation of the transversal wave components, and the intensification of the diverging wave components.

    World dynamics patterns modeling

    In the article is carried out the analysis of historical process with the use of methods of synergetics (science about the nonlinear developing systems in nature and the society), developed in the works of D. S. Chernavskii in connection with to economic and social systems. It is shown that social self-organizing depending on conditions leads to the formation of both the societies with the strong internal competition (Y-structures) and cooperative type societies (X-structures). Y-structures are characteristic for the countries of the West, X-structure are characteristic for the countries of the East. It is shown that in XIX and in XX centuries occurred accelerated shaping and strengthening of Y-structures. However, at present world system entered into the period of serious structural changes in the economic, political, ideological spheres: the domination of Y-structures concludes. Are examined the possible ways of further development of the world system, connected with change in the regimes of self-organizing and limitation of internal competition. This passage will be prolonged and complex. Under these conditions it will objectively grow the value of the civilizational experience of Russia, on basis of which was formed combined type social system. It is shown that ultimately inevitable the passage from the present do-mination of Y-structures to the absolutely new global system, whose stability will be based on the new ideology, the new spirituality (i.e., new “conditional information” according D. S. Chernavskii), which makes a turn from the principles of competition to the principles of collaboration.

    Investigation the material properties of a plate by laser ultrasound using the analysis of multiple waves

    Ultrasound examination of material properties is a precision method for determining their elastic and strength properties in connection with the small wavelength formed in the material after impact of a laser beam. In this paper, the wave processes arising during these measurements are considered in detail. It is shown that full-wave numerical modeling allows us to study in detail the types of waves, topological characteristics of their profile, speed of arrival of waves at various points, identification the types of waves whose measurements are most optimal for examining a sample made of a specific material of a particular shape, and to develop measurement procedures.

    To carry out full-wave modeling, a grid-characteristic method on structured grids was used in this work and a hyperbolic system of equations that describes the propagation of elastic waves in the material of the thin plate under consideration on a specific example of a ratio of thickness to width of 1:10 was solved.

    To simulate an elastic front that arose in the plate due to a laser beam, a model of the corresponding initial conditions was proposed. A comparison of the wave effects that arise during its use in the case of a point source and with the data of physical experiments on the propagation of laser ultrasound in metal plates was made.

    A study was made on the basis of which the characteristic topological features of the wave processes under consideration were identified and revealed. The main types of elastic waves arising due to a laser beam are investigated, the possibility of their use for studying the properties of materials is analyzed. A method based on the analysis of multiple waves is proposed. The proposed method for studying the properties of a plate with the help of multiple waves on synthetic data was tested, and it showed good results.

    It should be noted that most of the studies of multiple waves are aimed at developing methods for their suppression. Multiple waves are not used to process the results of ultrasound studies due to the complexity of their detection in the recorded data of a physical experiment.

    Due to the use of full wave modeling and analysis of spatial dynamic wave processes, multiple waves are considered in detail in this work and it is proposed to divide materials into three classes, which allows using multiple waves to obtain information about the material of the plate.

    The main results of the work are the developed problem statements for the numerical simulation of the study of plates of a finite thickness by laser ultrasound; the revealed features of the wave phenomena arising in plates of a finite thickness; the developed method for studying the properties of the plate on the basis of multiple waves; the developed classification of materials.

    The results of the studies presented in this paper may be of interest not only for developments in the field of ultrasonic non-destructive testing, but also in the field of seismic exploration of the earth's interior, since the proposed approach can be extended to more complex cases of heterogeneous media and applied in geophysics.
