Comparison of mobile operating systems based on models of growth reliability of the software
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 3, pp. 325-334

Evaluation of software reliability is an important part of the process of developing modern software. Many studies are aimed at improving models for measuring and predicting the reliability of software products. However, little attention is paid to approaches to comparing existing systems in terms of software reliability. Despite the enormous importance for practice (and for managing software development), a complete and proven comparison methodology does not exist. In this article, we propose a software reliability comparison methodology in which software reliability growth models are widely used. The proposed methodology has the following features: it provides certain level of flexibility and abstraction while keeping objectivity, i.e. providing measurable comparison criteria. Also, given the comparison methodology with a set of SRGMs and evaluation criteria it becomes much easier to disseminate information about reliability of wide range of software systems. The methodology was evaluated on the example of three mobile operating systems with open source: Sailfish, Tizen, CyanogenMod.

A byproduct of our study is a comparison of the three analyzed Open Source mobile operating systems. The goal of this research is to determine which OS is stronger in terms of reliability. To this end we have performed a GQM analysis and we have identified 3 questions and 8 metrics. Considering the comparison of metrics, it appears that Sailfish is in most case the best performing OS. However, it is also the OS that performs the worst in most cases. On the contrary, Tizen scores the best in 3 cases out of 8, but the worst only in one case out of 8.

Investigation the material properties of a plate by laser ultrasound using the analysis of multiple waves
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 4, pp. 653-673

Ultrasound examination of material properties is a precision method for determining their elastic and strength properties in connection with the small wavelength formed in the material after impact of a laser beam. In this paper, the wave processes arising during these measurements are considered in detail. It is shown that full-wave numerical modeling allows us to study in detail the types of waves, topological characteristics of their profile, speed of arrival of waves at various points, identification the types of waves whose measurements are most optimal for examining a sample made of a specific material of a particular shape, and to develop measurement procedures.

To carry out full-wave modeling, a grid-characteristic method on structured grids was used in this work and a hyperbolic system of equations that describes the propagation of elastic waves in the material of the thin plate under consideration on a specific example of a ratio of thickness to width of 1:10 was solved.

To simulate an elastic front that arose in the plate due to a laser beam, a model of the corresponding initial conditions was proposed. A comparison of the wave effects that arise during its use in the case of a point source and with the data of physical experiments on the propagation of laser ultrasound in metal plates was made.

A study was made on the basis of which the characteristic topological features of the wave processes under consideration were identified and revealed. The main types of elastic waves arising due to a laser beam are investigated, the possibility of their use for studying the properties of materials is analyzed. A method based on the analysis of multiple waves is proposed. The proposed method for studying the properties of a plate with the help of multiple waves on synthetic data was tested, and it showed good results.

It should be noted that most of the studies of multiple waves are aimed at developing methods for their suppression. Multiple waves are not used to process the results of ultrasound studies due to the complexity of their detection in the recorded data of a physical experiment.

Due to the use of full wave modeling and analysis of spatial dynamic wave processes, multiple waves are considered in detail in this work and it is proposed to divide materials into three classes, which allows using multiple waves to obtain information about the material of the plate.

The main results of the work are the developed problem statements for the numerical simulation of the study of plates of a finite thickness by laser ultrasound; the revealed features of the wave phenomena arising in plates of a finite thickness; the developed method for studying the properties of the plate on the basis of multiple waves; the developed classification of materials.

The results of the studies presented in this paper may be of interest not only for developments in the field of ultrasonic non-destructive testing, but also in the field of seismic exploration of the earth's interior, since the proposed approach can be extended to more complex cases of heterogeneous media and applied in geophysics.

  3. An algorithm is proposed to identify parameters of a 2D vortex structure used on information about the flow velocity at a finite (small) set of reference points. The approach is based on using a set of point vortices as a model system and minimizing a functional that compares the model and known sets of velocity vectors in the space of model parameters. For numerical implementation, the method of gradient descent with step size control, approximation of derivatives by finite differences, and the analytical expression of the velocity field induced by the point vortex model are used. An experimental analysis of the operation of the algorithm on test flows is carried out: one and a system of several point vortices, a Rankine vortex, and a Lamb dipole. According to the velocity fields of test flows, the velocity vectors utilized for identification were arranged in a randomly distributed set of reference points (from 3 to 200 pieces). Using the computations, it was determined that: the algorithm converges to the minimum from a wide range of initial approximations; the algorithm converges in all cases when the reference points are located in areas where the streamlines of the test and model systems are topologically equivalent; if the streamlines of the systems are not topologically equivalent, then the percentage of successful calculations decreases, but convergence can also take place; when the method converges, the coordinates of the vortices of the model system are close to the centers of the vortices of the test configurations, and in many cases, the values of their circulations also; con-vergence depends more on location than on the number of vectors used for identification. The results of the study allow us to recommend the proposed algorithm for identifying 2D vortex structures whose streamlines are topologically close to systems of point vortices.

Extraction of characters and events from narratives
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 7, pp. 1593-1600

Events and character extraction from narratives is a fundamental task in text analysis. The application of event extraction techniques ranges from the summarization of different documents to the analysis of medical notes. We identify events based on a framework named “four W” (Who, What, When, Where) to capture all the essential components like the actors, actions, time, and places. In this paper, we explore two prominent techniques for event extraction: statistical parsing of syntactic trees and semantic role labeling. While these techniques were investigated by different researchers in isolation, we directly compare the performance of the two approaches on our custom dataset, which we have annotated.

Our analysis shows that statistical parsing of syntactic trees outperforms semantic role labeling in event and character extraction, especially in identifying specific details. Nevertheless, semantic role labeling demonstrate good performance in correct actor identification. We evaluate the effectiveness of both approaches by comparing different metrics like precision, recall, and F1-scores, thus, demonstrating their respective advantages and limitations.

Moreover, as a part of our work, we propose different future applications of event extraction techniques that we plan to investigate. The areas where we want to apply these techniques include code analysis and source code authorship attribution. We consider using event extraction to retrieve key code elements as variable assignments and function calls, which can further help us to analyze the behavior of programs and identify the project’s contributors. Our work provides novel understandings of the performance and efficiency of statistical parsing and semantic role labeling techniques, offering researchers new directions for the application of these techniques.

Topological microstructure analysis of the TIP4P-EW water model
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2014, v. 6, no. 3, pp. 415-426

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of rigid water model TIP4P-EW at ambient conditions were carried out. Delaunay’s simplexes were considered as structural elements of liquid water. Topological criterion which allows to identify the water microstructure in snapshot of MD cell was used to allocate its dense part. Geometrical analysis of water Delaunay’s simplexes indicates their strong flatness in comparison with a regular tetrahedron that is fundamentally different from the results for dense part of simple liquids. The statistics of TIP4P-EW water clusters was investigated depending on their cardinality and connectivity. It is similar to the statistics for simple liquids and the structure of this dense part is also a fractal surface consisting of the free edges of the Delaunay’s simplexes.

Calculating technogenic vibrations in urban environments using grid-characteristic method
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 6, pp. 1119-1129

Amid the ongoing trend of rapid urbanization and the intensive development of megacities and large cities worldwide, the impact of man-made vibrations on residential structures and infrastructure is increasing. The operation of subway systems, construction using pile-driving and drilling equipment, and heavy traffic have become active sources of wave disturbances, which can be a decisive factor in reducing the structural stability of buildings and, consequently, their long-term reliability. This paper proposes a numerical calculation using the grid-characteristic method to model elastic waves propagating through soil layers and load-bearing structures from various sources. By solving the direct problem of numerical pulse simulation and varying its location, the values of velocity vector projections and components of the Cauchy stress tensor were obtained at each time step. Two scenarios were examined: the first simulates the impact of noise generated by construction work or nearby traffic, while the second demonstrates how a subway running through an underground tunnel affects multi-story residential buildings. Wave propagation patterns from these sources were visualized in terms of the parameters of interest, enabling a quick and convenient comprehensive analysis of the problem. The analysis of the obtained data will help adjust the timing and types of repair work, identify structural weak points, and develop innovative methods for preserving historical buildings that are cultural heritage sites. Additionally, it will allow for the most economically optimal construction of modern buildings near architectural landmarks, provide an efficient and safe action plan in emergencies, and modernize existing construction technologies to enhance the comfort of residential buildings, office structures, and other socially significant facilities. It will also aid in selecting the most suitable locations for modern high-precision manufacturing plants.

Hybrid neural network for predicting coating characteristics in flame spraying
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 1, pp. 101-116

The paper presents a hybrid artificial neural network model based on an architecture that incorporates a convolutional image encoder (CNN) and an attention module (Attention-based Multiple Instance Learning, Attention MIL). This module aggregates informative features from a sequence of frames capturing the flame spraying process. Additional technological parameters—air pressure, propane pressure, and standoff distance — are integrated into the model via a tabular channel, enabling it to account for the relationship between visual data and numerical process regime characteristics. The software implementation was developed using the Streamlit platform and the PyTorch library. It features an interactive interface for model training and result visualization, analysis of attention weights across frames, and a prediction mode for output characteristics: surface roughness ($R_a$) and the mass of the deposited coating ($m$). Experimental studies were conducted on data from real-world technological processes, and a comparative analysis of the accuracy of various model configurations was performed. The results demonstrate that the hybrid neural network, which combines visual and tabular features, achieves higher prediction accuracy compared to models using only a single modality. Furthermore, when comparing different implementations of the hybrid network, it was established that using the attention mechanism to process the series of flame spray images provides a significant increase in accuracy over a simple averaging of features without attention. The application includes an attention visualization module that creates a montage of the most significant frames and displays their attention weights, allowing users to identify which frames had the greatest influence on the prediction. The model’s capability for export to the ONNX format for integration into process control systems is also demonstrated. The proposed approach showcases the effectiveness of fusing visual and tabular information for manufacturing process monitoring tasks. The model can serve as a foundation for developing a decision support system or an automated quality control system for coatings produced by flame spraying. The limitations of the implemented model and prospects for its further development are also considered.

Modeling of axisymmetric deformation processes with taking into account the metal microstructure
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 4, pp. 897-908

The article describes the state of the art computer simulation in the field of metal forming processes, the main problem points of traditional methods were identified. The method, that allows to predict the deformation distribution in the volume of deformable metal with taking into account of microstructure behavioral characteristics in deformation load conditions, was described. The method for optimizing computational resources of multiscale models by using statistical similar representative volume elements (SSRVE) was presented. The modeling methods were tested on the process of single pass drawing of round rod from steel grade 20. In a comparative analysis of macro and micro levels models differences in quantitative terms of the stress-strain state and their local distribution have been identified. Microlevel model also allowed to detect the compressive stresses and strains, which were absent at the macro level model. Applying the SSRVE concept repeatedly lowered the calculation time of the model while maintaining the overall accuracy.

Synchronous components of financial time series
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 4, pp. 639-655

The article proposes a method of joint analysis of multidimensional financial time series based on the evaluation of the set of properties of stock quotes in a sliding time window and the subsequent averaging of property values for all analyzed companies. The main purpose of the analysis is to construct measures of joint behavior of time series reacting to the occurrence of a synchronous or coherent component. The coherence of the behavior of the characteristics of a complex system is an important feature that makes it possible to evaluate the approach of the system to sharp changes in its state. The basis for the search for precursors of sharp changes is the general idea of increasing the correlation of random fluctuations of the system parameters as it approaches the critical state. The increments in time series of stock values have a pronounced chaotic character and have a large amplitude of individual noises, against which a weak common signal can be detected only on the basis of its correlation in different scalar components of a multidimensional time series. It is known that classical methods of analysis based on the use of correlations between neighboring samples are ineffective in the processing of financial time series, since from the point of view of the correlation theory of random processes, increments in the value of shares formally have all the attributes of white noise (in particular, the “flat spectrum” and “delta-shaped” autocorrelation function). In connection with this, it is proposed to go from analyzing the initial signals to examining the sequences of their nonlinear properties calculated in time fragments of small length. As such properties, the entropy of the wavelet coefficients is used in the decomposition into the Daubechies basis, the multifractal parameters and the autoregressive measure of signal nonstationarity. Measures of synchronous behavior of time series properties in a sliding time window are constructed using the principal component method, moduli values of all pairwise correlation coefficients, and a multiple spectral coherence measure that is a generalization of the quadratic coherence spectrum between two signals. The shares of 16 large Russian companies from the beginning of 2010 to the end of 2016 were studied. Using the proposed method, two synchronization time intervals of the Russian stock market were identified: from mid-December 2013 to mid- March 2014 and from mid-October 2014 to mid-January 2016.

Some features of group dynamics in the resource-consumer agent model
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 6, pp. 833-850

The paper investigates the features of group dynamics of individuals-agents in the computer model of the animal population interacting with each other and with a renewable resource. This type of dynamics was previously found in [Belotelov, Konovalenko, 2016]. The model population consists of a set of individuals. Each individual is characterized by its mass, which is identified with energy. It describes in detail the dynamics of the energy balance of the individual. The habitat of the simulated population is a rectangular area where the resource grows evenly (grass).

Various computer experiments carried out with the model under different parameter values and initial conditions are described. The main purpose of these computational experiments was to study the group (herd) dynamics of individuals. It was found that in a fairly wide range of parameter values and with the introduction of spatial inhomogeneities of the area, the group type of behavior is preserved. The values of the model population parameters under which the regime of spatial oscillations of the population occurs were found numerically. Namely, in the model population periodically group (herd) behavior of animals is replaced by a uniform distribution over space, which after a certain number of bars again becomes a group. Numerical experiments on the preliminary analysis of the factors influencing the period of these solutions are carried out. It turned out that the leading parameters affecting the frequency and amplitude, as well as the number of groups are the mobility of individuals and the rate of recovery of the resource. Numerical experiments are carried out to study the influence of parameters determining the nonlocal interaction between individuals of the population on the group behavior. It was found that the modes of group behavior persist for a long time with the exclusion of fertility factors of individuals. It is confirmed that the nonlocality of interaction between individuals is leading in the formation of group behavior.
