Dynamical theory of information as a basis for natural-constructive approach to modeling a cognitive process
Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 3, pp. 433-447Views (last year): 6.The main statements and inferences of the Dynamic Theory Information (DTI) are considered. It is shown that DTI provides the possibility two reveal two essentially important types of information: objective (unconventional) and subjective (conventional) informtion. There are two ways of obtaining information: reception (perception of an already existing one) and generation (production of new) information. It is shown that the processes of generation and perception of information should proceed in two different subsystems of the same cognitive system. The main points of the Natural-Constructivist Approach to modeling the cognitive process are discussed. It is shown that any neuromorphic approach faces the problem of Explanatory Gap between the “Brain” and the “Mind”, i. e. the gap between objectively measurable information about the ensemble of neurons (“Brain”) and subjective information about the human consciousness (“Mind”). The Natural-Constructive Cognitive Architecture developed within the framework of this approach is discussed. It is a complex block-hierarchical combination of several neuroprocessors. The main constructive feature of this architecture is splitting the whole system into two linked subsystems, by analogy with the hemispheres of the human brain. One of the subsystems is processing the new information, learning, and creativity, i.e. for the generation of information. Another subsystem is responsible for processing already existing information, i.e. reception of information. It is shown that the lowest (zero) level of the hierarchy is represented by processors that should record images of real objects (distributed memory) as a response to sensory signals, which is objective information (and refers to the “Brain”). The next hierarchy levels are represented by processors containing symbols of the recorded images. It is shown that symbols represent subjective (conventional) information created by the system itself and providing its individuality. The highest hierarchy levels containing the symbols of abstract concepts provide the possibility to interpret the concepts of “consciousness”, “sub-consciousness”, “intuition”, referring to the field of “Mind”, in terms of the ensemble of neurons. Thus, DTI provides an opportunity to build a model that allows us to trace how the “Mind” could emerge basing on the “Brain”.

Distributed computing model for the organization of a software environment that provides management of intelligent building automation systems
Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 3, pp. 557-570The present article describes the authors’ model of construction of the distributed computer network and realization in it of the distributed calculations which are carried out within the limits of the software-information environment providing management of the information, automated and engineering systems of intellectual buildings. The presented model is based on the functional approach with encapsulation of the non-determined calculations and various side effects in monadic calculations that allows to apply all advantages of functional programming to a choice and execution of scenarios of management of various aspects of life activity of buildings and constructions. Besides, the described model can be used together with process of intellectualization of technical and sociotechnical systems for increase of level of independence of decision-making on management of values of parameters of the internal environment of a building, and also for realization of methods of adaptive management, in particular application of various techniques and approaches of an artificial intellect. An important part of the model is a directed acyclic graph, which is an extension of the blockchain with the ability to categorically reduce the cost of transactions taking into account the execution of smart contracts. According to the authors it will allow one to realize new technologies and methods — the distributed register on the basis of the directed acyclic graph, calculation on edge and the hybrid scheme of construction of artificial intellectual systems — and all this together can be used for increase of efficiency of management of intellectual buildings. Actuality of the presented model is based on necessity and importance of translation of processes of management of life cycle of buildings and constructions in paradigm of Industry 4.0 and application for management of methods of an artificial intellect with universal introduction of independent artificial cognitive agents. Model novelty follows from cumulative consideration of the distributed calculations within the limits of the functional approach and hybrid paradigm of construction of artificial intellectual agents for management of intellectual buildings. The work is theoretical. The article will be interesting to scientists and engineers working in the field of automation of technological and industrial processes both within the limits of intellectual buildings, and concerning management of complex technical and social and technical systems as a whole.

Using RAG technology and large language models to search for documents and obtain information in corporate information systems
Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 5, pp. 871-888This paper investigates the effectiveness of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) combined with various Large Language Models (LLMs) for document retrieval and information access in corporate information systems. We survey typical use-cases of LLMs in enterprise environments, outline the RAG architecture, and discuss the major challenges that arise when integrating LLMs into a RAG pipeline. A system architecture is proposed that couples a text-vector encoder with an LLM. The encoder builds a vector database that indexes a library of corporate documents. For every user query, relevant contextual fragments are retrieved from this library via the FAISS engine and appended to the prompt given to the LLM. The LLM then generates an answer grounded in the supplied context. The overall structure and workflow of the proposed RAG solution are described in detail. To justify the choice of the generative component, we benchmark a set of widely used LLMs — ChatGPT, GigaChat, YandexGPT, Llama, Mistral, Qwen, and others — when employed as the answer-generation module. Using an expert-annotated test set of queries, we evaluate the accuracy, completeness, linguistic quality, and conciseness of the responses. Model-specific characteristics and average response latencies are analysed; the study highlights the significant influence of available GPU memory on the throughput of local LLM deployments. An overall ranking of the models is derived from an aggregated quality metric. The results confirm that the proposed RAG architecture provides efficient document retrieval and information delivery in corporate environments. Future research directions include richer context augmentation techniques and a transition toward agent-based LLM architectures. The paper concludes with practical recommendations on selecting an optimal RAG–LLM configuration to ensure fast and precise access to enterprise knowledge assets.

Hybrid neural network for predicting coating characteristics in flame spraying
Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 1, pp. 101-116The paper presents a hybrid artificial neural network model based on an architecture that incorporates a convolutional image encoder (CNN) and an attention module (Attention-based Multiple Instance Learning, Attention MIL). This module aggregates informative features from a sequence of frames capturing the flame spraying process. Additional technological parameters—air pressure, propane pressure, and standoff distance — are integrated into the model via a tabular channel, enabling it to account for the relationship between visual data and numerical process regime characteristics. The software implementation was developed using the Streamlit platform and the PyTorch library. It features an interactive interface for model training and result visualization, analysis of attention weights across frames, and a prediction mode for output characteristics: surface roughness ($R_a$) and the mass of the deposited coating ($m$). Experimental studies were conducted on data from real-world technological processes, and a comparative analysis of the accuracy of various model configurations was performed. The results demonstrate that the hybrid neural network, which combines visual and tabular features, achieves higher prediction accuracy compared to models using only a single modality. Furthermore, when comparing different implementations of the hybrid network, it was established that using the attention mechanism to process the series of flame spray images provides a significant increase in accuracy over a simple averaging of features without attention. The application includes an attention visualization module that creates a montage of the most significant frames and displays their attention weights, allowing users to identify which frames had the greatest influence on the prediction. The model’s capability for export to the ONNX format for integration into process control systems is also demonstrated. The proposed approach showcases the effectiveness of fusing visual and tabular information for manufacturing process monitoring tasks. The model can serve as a foundation for developing a decision support system or an automated quality control system for coatings produced by flame spraying. The limitations of the implemented model and prospects for its further development are also considered.

Simulation of interprocessor interactions for MPI-applications in the cloud infrastructure
Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 6, pp. 955-963Views (last year): 10. Citations: 1 (RSCI).А new cloud center of parallel computing is to be created in the Laboratory of Information Technologies (LIT) of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research JINR) what is expected to improve significantly the efficiency of numerical calculations and expedite the receipt of new physically meaningful results due to the more rational use of computing resources. To optimize a scheme of parallel computations at a cloud environment it is necessary to test this scheme for various combinations of equipment parameters (processor speed and numbers, throughput оf а communication network etc). As a test problem, the parallel MPI algorithm for calculations of the long Josephson junctions (LDJ) is chosen. Problems of evaluating the impact of abovementioned factors of computing mean on the computing speed of the test problem are solved by simulation with the simulation program SyMSim developed in LIT.
The simulation of the LDJ calculations in the cloud environment enable users without a series of test to find the optimal number of CPUs with a certain type of network run the calculations in a real computer environment. This can save significant computational time in countable resources. The main parameters of the model were obtained from the results of the computational experiment conducted on a special cloud-based testbed. Computational experiments showed that the pure computation time decreases in inverse proportion to the number of processors, but depends significantly on network bandwidth. Comparison of results obtained empirically with the results of simulation showed that the simulation model correctly simulates the parallel calculations performed using the MPI-technology. Besides it confirms our recommendation: for fast calculations of this type it is needed to increase both, — the number of CPUs and the network throughput at the same time. The simulation results allow also to invent an empirical analytical formula expressing the dependence of calculation time by the number of processors for a fixed system configuration. The obtained formula can be applied to other similar studies, but requires additional tests to determine the values of variables.

Modeling of the effective environment in the Republic of Tatarstan using transport data
Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 2, pp. 395-404Automated urban traffic monitoring systems are widely used to solve various tasks in intelligent transport systems of different regions. They include video enforcement, video surveillance, traffic management system, etc. Effective traffic management and rapid response to traffic incidents require continuous monitoring and analysis of information from these complexes, as well as time series forecasting for further anomaly detection in traffic flow. To increase the forecasting quality, data fusion from different sources is needed. It will reduce the forecasting error, related to possible incorrect values and data gaps. We implemented the approach for short-term and middle-term forecasting of traffic flow (5, 10, 15 min) based on data fusion from video enforcement and video surveillance systems. We made forecasting using different recurrent neural network architectures: LSTM, GRU, and bidirectional LSTM with one and two layers. We investigated the forecasting quality of bidirectional LSTM with 64 and 128 neurons in hidden layers. The input window size (1, 4, 12, 24, 48) was investigated. The RMSE value was used as a forecasting error. We got minimum RMSE = 0.032405 for basic LSTM with 64 neurons in the hidden layer and window size = 24.

Comparative analysis of human adaptation to the growth of visual information in the tasks of recognizing formal symbols and meaningful images
Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 3, pp. 571-586We describe an engineering-psychological experiment that continues the study of ways to adapt a person to the increasing complexity of logical problems by presenting a series of problems of increasing complexity, which is determined by the volume of initial data. Tasks require calculations in an associative or non-associative system of operations. By the nature of the change in the time of solving the problem, depending on the number of necessary operations, we can conclude that a purely sequential method of solving problems or connecting additional brain resources to the solution in parallel mode. In a previously published experimental work, a person in the process of solving an associative problem recognized color images with meaningful images. In the new study, a similar problem is solved for abstract monochrome geometric shapes. Analysis of the result showed that for the second case, the probability of the subject switching to a parallel method of processing visual information is significantly reduced. The research method is based on presenting a person with two types of tasks. One type of problem contains associative calculations and allows a parallel solution algorithm. Another type of problem is the control one, which contains problems in which calculations are not associative and parallel algorithms are ineffective. The task of recognizing and searching for a given object is associative. A parallel strategy significantly speeds up the solution with relatively small additional resources. As a control series of problems (to separate parallel work from the acceleration of a sequential algorithm), we use, as in the previous experiment, a non-associative comparison problem in cyclic arithmetic, presented in the visual form of the game “rock, paper, scissors”. In this problem, the parallel algorithm requires a large number of processors with a small efficiency coefficient. Therefore, the transition of a person to a parallel algorithm for solving this problem is almost impossible, and the acceleration of processing input information is possible only by increasing the speed. Comparing the dependence of the solution time on the volume of source data for two types of problems allows us to identify four types of strategies for adapting to the increasing complexity of the problem: uniform sequential, accelerated sequential, parallel computing (where possible), or undefined (for this method) strategy. The Reducing of the number of subjects, who switch to a parallel strategy when encoding input information with formal images, shows the effectiveness of codes that cause subject associations. They increase the speed of human perception and processing of information. The article contains a preliminary mathematical model that explains this phenomenon. It is based on the appearance of a second set of initial data, which occurs in a person as a result of recognizing the depicted objects.

The dynamic model of a high-rise firefighting drone
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 1, pp. 115-126The utilization of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in high-rise firefighting operations is the right solution for reaching the fire scene on high floors quickly and effectively. The article proposes a quadrotor-type firefighting UAV model carrying a launcher to launch a missile containing fire extinguishing powders into a fire. The kinematic model describing the flight kinematics of this UAV model is built based on the Newton – Euler method when the device is in normal motion and at the time of launching a firefighting missile. The results from the simulation testing the validity of the kinematic model and the simulation of the motion of the UAV show that the variation of Euler angles, flight angles, and aerodynamic angles during a flight are within an acceptable range and overload guarantee in flight. The UAV flew to the correct position to launch the required fire-extinguishing ammunition. The results of the research are the basis for building a control system of high-rise firefighting drones in Vietnam.

Investigation of individual-based mechanisms of single-species population dynamics by logical deterministic cellular automata
Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 6, pp. 1279-1293Views (last year): 16. Citations: 3 (RSCI).Investigation of logical deterministic cellular automata models of population dynamics allows to reveal detailed individual-based mechanisms. The search for such mechanisms is important in connection with ecological problems caused by overexploitation of natural resources, environmental pollution and climate change. Classical models of population dynamics have the phenomenological nature, as they are “black boxes”. Phenomenological models fundamentally complicate research of detailed mechanisms of ecosystem functioning. We have investigated the role of fecundity and duration of resources regeneration in mechanisms of population growth using four models of ecosystem with one species. These models are logical deterministic cellular automata and are based on physical axiomatics of excitable medium with regeneration. We have modeled catastrophic death of population arising from increasing of resources regeneration duration. It has been shown that greater fecundity accelerates population extinction. The investigated mechanisms are important for understanding mechanisms of sustainability of ecosystems and biodiversity conservation. Prospects of the presented modeling approach as a method of transparent multilevel modeling of complex systems are discussed.

Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 3, pp. 541-548Views (last year): 3. Citations: 3 (RSCI).The practical application of nuclear medicine demonstrates the continued information deficiency of the algorithms and programs that provide visualization and analysis of medical images. The aim of the study was to determine the principles of optimizing the processing of planar osteostsintigraphy on the basis of сomputer aided diagnosis (CAD) for analysis of texture descriptions of images of metastatic zones on planar scintigrams of skeleton. A computer-aided diagnosis system for analysis of skeletal metastases based on planar scintigraphy data has been developed. This system includes skeleton image segmentation, calculation of textural, histogram and morphometrical parameters and the creation of a training set. For study of metastatic images’ textural characteristics on planar scintigrams of skeleton was developed the computer program of automatic analysis of skeletal metastases is used from data of planar scintigraphy. Also expert evaluation was used to distinguishing ‘pathological’ (metastatic) from ‘physiological’ (non-metastatic) radiopharmaceutical hyperfixation zones in which Haralick’s textural features were determined: autocorrelation, contrast, ‘forth moment’ and heterogeneity. This program was established on the principles of сomputer aided diagnosis researches planar scintigrams of skeletal patients with metastatic breast cancer hearths hyperfixation of radiopharmaceuticals were identified. Calculated parameters were made such as brightness, smoothness, the third moment of brightness, brightness uniformity, entropy brightness. It has been established that in most areas of the skeleton of histogram values of parameters in pathologic hyperfixation of radiopharmaceuticals predominate over the same values in the physiological. Most often pathological hyperfixation of radiopharmaceuticals as the front and rear fixed scintigramms prevalence of brightness and smoothness of the image brightness in comparison with those of the physiological hyperfixation of radiopharmaceuticals.
