Effect of buoyancy force on mixed convection of a variable density fluid in a square lid-driven cavity
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 3, pp. 575-595The paper considers the problem of stationary mixed convection and heat transfer of a viscous heatconducting fluid in a plane square lid-driven cavity. The hot top cover of the cavity has any temperature $T_\mathrm{H}$ and cold bottom wall has temperature $T_\mathrm{0} (T_\mathrm{H} > T_\mathrm{0})$, whereas in contrast the side walls are insulated. The fact that the fluid density can take arbitrary values depending on the amount of overheating of the cavity cover is a feature of the problem. The mathematical formulation includes the Navier–Stokes equations in the ’velocity–pressure’ variables and the heat balance equation which take into account the incompressibility of the fluid flow and the influence of volumetric buoyancy force. The difference approximation of the original differential equations has been performed by the control volume method. Numerical solutions of the problem have been obtained on the $501 \times 501$ grid for the following values of similarity parameters: Prandtl number Pr = 0.70; Reynolds number Re = 100 and 1000; Richardson number Ri = 0.1, 1, and 10; and the relative cover overheating $(T_\mathrm{H}-T_\mathrm{0})/T_\mathrm{0} = 0, 1, 2, 3$. Detailed flow patterns in the form of streamlines and isotherms of relative overheating of the fluid flow are given in the work. It is shown that the increase in the value of the Richardson number (the increase in the influence of buoyancy force) leads to a fundamental change in the structure of the liquid stream. It is also found out that taking into account the variability of the liquid density leads to weakening of the influence of Ri growth on the transformation of the flow structure. The change in density in a closed volume is the cause of this weakening, since it always leads to the existence of zones with negative buoyancy in the presence of a volumetric force. As a consequence, the competition of positive and negative volumetric forces leads in general to weakening of the buoyancy effect. The behaviors of heat exchange coefficient (Nusselt number) and coefficient of friction along the bottom wall of the cavity depending on the parameters of the problem are also analyzed. It is revealed that the greater the values of the Richardson number are, the greater, ceteris paribus, the influence of density variation on these coefficients is.

Numerical simulation of the dynamics of the density distribution of cellular tissue, taking into account the influence of chemotaxis and deformation of the extracellular matrix
Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 6, pp. 1433-1445In this paper, a mathematical model of cellular tissue dynamics is considered. The first part gives the conclusion of the model, the main provisions and the formulation of the problem. In the second part, the final system is investigated numerically and the simulation results are presented. It is postulated that cellular tissue is a three-phase medium that consists of a solid skeleton (which is an extracellular matrix), cells and extracellular fluid. In addition, the presence of nutrients in the tissue is taken into account. The model is based on the equations of conservation of mass, taking into account mass exchange, the equations of conservation of momentum for each phase, as well as the diffusion equation for nutrients. The equation describing the cellular phase also takes into account the term describing the chemical effect on the tissue, which is called chemotaxis — the movement of cells caused by a gradient in the concentration of chemicals. The initial system of equations is reduced to a system of three equations for finding porosity, cell saturation and nutrient concentration. These equations are supplemented by initial and boundary conditions. In the one-dimensional case, the distribution of porosity, concentration of the cell phase and nutrients is set at the initial moment of time. A constant concentration of nutrients is set on the left border, which corresponds, for example, to the supply of oxygen from the vessel, as well as the flow of cell concentration on it is zero. Two types of conditions are considered at the right boundary: the first is the condition of impermeability of the right boundary, the second is the condition of constant concentration of the cell phase and zero flow of nutrient concentration. In both cases, the conditions for the matrix and extracellular fluid are the same, it is assumed that there is a source of nutrients (blood vessel) on the left border of the modeling area. As a result of modeling, it was revealed that chemotaxis has a significant effect on tissue growth. In the absence of chemotaxis, the compaction zone extends to the entire modeling area, but with an increase in the effect of chemotaxis on the tissue, a degradation area is formed in which the concentration of cells becomes lower than the initial one.

Numerical simulation of flow inversion in the portal vein
Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 3, pp. 659-674A mathematical model of fluid movement in the portal vein is considered. The fundamental circumstance determining the whole variety of portal hemodynamic phenomena is the absence of a valve apparatus. The flow direction is solely a function of the pressure gradient, and, therefore, it is fundamentally reversible when the boundary conditions of the system change.
Calculations were performed in the area representing a CT image fragment of the portal vein of a particular patient, which does not contain vascular bifurcations. The interpolation of patient Dopplerography data published in the press was used as boundary conditions for the flow. The calculations were carried out using the FlowVision industrial hydrodynamics software package. A comparison of calculations using the ideal fluid model and the Kuemada model of viscoplastic flow is carried out.
Calculations were performed for different values of the resistance coefficient corresponding to the physiological norm and with an increased value of the resistance coefficient.
At a normal value of the resistance coefficient, the flow in the portal vein is characterized by strong convective mixing.
As a result of calculations, it was found that when using the Kuemada model, the flow in the portal vein is stratified. The nature of the stratification depends on the hematocrit. At a normal value of the resistance coefficient, a plastic core of the flow is formed as the velocity decreases. With an increased value of the resistance coefficient during flow inversion, the flow core is also formed. When the flow is inverted, the plastic core continues to move in the forward direction, while the wall layers of the liquid begin to move in the opposite direction.
It is noted that in order to obtain correct modeling results, it is necessary to refine the blood composition of the portal vein and, possibly, refine the rheological model. Such information can be obtained both from comparing simulation data with clinical data, and by laboratory examination of portal vein blood.

Numerical simulation of combustion of a polydisperse suspension of coal dust in a spherical volume
Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 3, pp. 531-539Views (last year): 2. Citations: 7 (RSCI).The physical and mathematical model of combustion of the polydisperse suspension of coal dust was developed. The formulation of the problem takes into account the evaporation of particle volatile components during the heating, the particle emitting and the gas heat transfer to a surrounding area via the sphere volume side surface, heat transfer coefficient as a function of temperature. The polydisperse of coal-dust is taken into consideration. N — the number of fraction. Fractions are subdivided into inert and reacting particles. The oxidizer mass balance equation takes into consideration the oxidizer consumption per each reaction (heterogeneous on the particle surface and homogenous in the gas). Exothermic chemical reactions in gas are determined by Arrhenius equation with second-order kinetics. The heterogeneous reaction on the particle surface was first-order reaction. The numerical simulation was solved by Runge–Kutta–Merson method. Reliability of the calculations was verified by solving the partial problems. During the numerical calculation the percentage composition of inert and reacting particles in coal-dust and their total mass were changed for each simulation. We have determined the influence of the percentage composition of inert and reacting particles on burning characteristics of polydisperse coal-dust methane-air mixture. The results showed that the percent increase of volatile components in the mixture lead to the increase of total pressure in the volume. The value of total pressure decreases with the increasing of the inert components in the mixture. It has been determined that there is the extremism radius value of coarse particles by which the maximum pressure reaches the highest value.

Relation between performance of organization and its structure during sudden and smoldering crises
Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 4, pp. 685-706Views (last year): 2. Citations: 2 (RSCI).The article describes a mathematical model that simulates performance of a hierarchical organization during an early stage of a crisis. A distinguished feature of this stage of crisis is presence of so called early warning signals containing information on the approaching event. Employees are capable of catching the early warnings and of preparing the organization for the crisis based on the signals’ meaning. The efficiency of the preparation depends on both parameters of the organization and parameters of the crisis. The proposed simulation agentbased model is implemented on Java programming language and is used for conducting experiments via Monte- Carlo method. The goal of the experiments is to compare how centralized and decentralized organizational structures perform during sudden and smoldering crises. By centralized organizations we assume structures with high number of hierarchy levels and low number of direct reports of every manager, while decentralized organizations mean structures with low number of hierarchy levels and high number of direct reports of every manager. Sudden crises are distinguished by short early stage and low number of warning signals, while smoldering crises are defined as crises with long lasting early stage and high number of warning signals not necessary containing important information. Efficiency of the organizational performance during early stage of a crisis is measured by two parameters: percentage of early warnings which have been acted upon in order to prepare organization for the crisis, and time spent by top-manager on working with early warnings. As a result, we show that during early stage of smoldering crises centralized organizations process signals more efficiently than decentralized organizations, while decentralized organizations handle early warning signals more efficiently during early stage of sudden crises. However, occupation of top-managers during sudden crises is higher in decentralized organizations and it is higher in centralized organizations during smoldering crises. Thus, neither of the two classes of organizational structures is more efficient by the two parameters simultaneously. Finally, we conduct sensitivity analysis to verify the obtained results.

About applying Rayleigh formula based on the Kirchhoff integral equations for the seismic exploration problems
Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 5, pp. 761-771Views (last year): 11.In this paper we present Rayleigh formulas obtained from Kirchhoff integral formulas, which can later be used to obtain migration images. The relevance of the studies conducted in the work is due to the widespread use of migration in the interests of seismic oil and gas seismic exploration. A special feature of the work is the use of an elastic approximation to describe the dynamic behaviour of a geological environment, in contrast to the widespread acoustic approximation. The proposed approach will significantly improve the quality of seismic exploration in complex cases, such as permafrost and shelf zones of the southern and northern seas. The complexity of applying a system of equations describing the state of a linear-elastic medium to obtain Rayleigh formulas and algorithms based on them is a significant increase in the number of computations, the mathematical and analytical complexity of the resulting algorithms in comparison with the case of an acoustic medium. Therefore in industrial seismic surveys migration algorithms for the case of elastic waves are not currently used, which creates certain difficulties, since the acoustic approximation describes only longitudinal seismic waves in geological environments. This article presents the final analytical expressions that can be used to develop software systems using the description of elastic seismic waves: longitudinal and transverse, thereby covering the entire range of seismic waves: longitudinal reflected PP-waves, longitudinal reflected SP-waves, transverse reflected PS-waves and transverse reflected SS-waves. Also, the results of comparison of numerical solutions obtained on the basis of Rayleigh formulas with numerical solutions obtained by the grid-characteristic method are presented. The value of this comparison is due to the fact that the method based on Rayleigh integrals is based on analytical expressions, while the grid-characteristic method is a method of numerical integration of solutions based on a calculated grid. In the comparison, different types of sources were considered: a point source model widely used in marine and terrestrial seismic surveying and a flat wave model, which is also sometimes used in field studies.

Simulation equatorial plasma bubbles started from plasma clouds
Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 3, pp. 463-476Views (last year): 14.Experimental, theoretical and numerical investigations of equatorial spread F, equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs), plasma depletion shells, and plasma clouds are continued at new variety articles. Nonlinear growth, bifurcation, pinching, atomic and molecular ion dynamics are considered at there articles. But the authors of this article believe that not all parameters of EPB development are correct. For example, EPB bifurcation is highly questionable.
A maximum speed inside EPBs and a development time of EPB are defined and studied. EPBs starting from one, two or three zones of the increased density (initial plasma clouds). The development mechanism of EPB is the Rayleigh-Taylor instability (RTI). Time of the initial stage of EPB development went into EPB favorable time interval (in this case the increase linear increment is more than zero) and is 3000–7000 c for the Earth equatorial ionosphere.
Numerous computing experiments were conducted with use of the original two-dimensional mathematical and numerical model MI2, similar USA standard model SAMI2. This model MI2 is described in detail. The received results can be used both in other theoretical works and for planning and carrying out natural experiments for generation of F-spread in Earth ionosphere.
Numerical simulating was carried out for the geophysical conditions favorable for EPBs development. Numerical researches confirmed that development time of EPBs from initial irregularities with the increased density is significantly more than development time from zones of the lowered density. It is shown that developed irregularities interact among themselves strongly and not linearly even then when initial plasma clouds are strongly removed from each other. In addition, this interaction is stronger than interaction of EPBs starting from initial irregularities with the decreased density. The numerical experiments results showed the good consent of developed EPB parameters with experimental data and with theoretical researches of other authors.
