Kinetic equations for modelling of diffusion processes by lattice Boltzmann method
Computer Research and Modeling, 2017, v. 9, no. 6, pp. 919-936Views (last year): 25.The system of linear hyperbolic kinetic equations with the relaxation term of Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook type for modelling of linear diffusion processes by the lattice Boltzmann method is considered. The coefficients of the equations depend on the discrete velocities from the pattern in velocity space. The system may be considered as an alternative mathematical model of the linear diffusion process. The cases of widely-used patterns on speed variables are considered. The case of parametric coefficients takes into account. By application of the method of Chapman–Enskog asymptotic expansion it is obtained, that the system may be reduced to the linear diffusion equation. The expression of the diffusion coefficient is obtained. As a result of the analysis of this expression, the existence of numerical diffusion in solutions obtained by application of lattice Boltzmann equations is demonstrated. Stability analysis is based on the investigation of wave modes defined by the solutions of hyperbolic system. In the cases of some one-dimensional patterns stability analysis may be realized analytically. In other cases the algorithm of numerical stability investigation is proposed. As a result of the numerical investigation stability of the solutions is shown for a wide range of input parameters. The sufficiency of the positivity of the relaxation parameter for the stability of solutions is demonstrated. The dispersion of the solutions, which is not realized for a linear diffusion equation, is demonstrated analytically and numerically for a wide range of the parameters. But the dispersive wave modes can be damped as an asymptotically stable solutions and the behavior of the solution is similar to the solution of linear diffusion equation. Numerical schemes, obtained from the proposed systems by various discretization techniques may be considered as a tool for computer modelling of diffusion processes, or as a solver for stationary problems and in applications of the splitting lattice Boltzmann method. Obtained results may be used for the comparison of the theoretical properties of the difference schemes of the lattice Boltzmann method for modelling of linear diffusion.

Development of the remotely piloted agricultural aircraft (RPAA) control system on the basis of the airplane MV-500
Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 3, pp. 315-323Views (last year): 20.The article presents the intermediate results of the development of a control system for a remotely piloted agricultural aircraft (RPAA). The concept of using an automated complex for performing aerochemical work (ACW) designed for processing fields, water areas, forests with the purpose of protection from pests of plants, fertilization is developed. The basic component of the complex is a manned agricultural aircraft MV-500 developed by LLC “Firm “MVEN” (Kazan). The use of the aircraft in unmanned mode will provide an increase in the productivity of the aircraft, will increase the payload.
The article defines the composition of the complex for automation of ACW: aircraft, ground control center, onboard equipment for automated control of the aircraft and the formation of a map of the heights of the section being processed, and the satellite precise positioning system necessary to automate the control of the aircraft. The aircraft is equipped with an automated control system that provides remote control of take-off and landing and automatic control of the flight trajectory at extremely low altitude when performing ACW and performing spatial turns at the boundaries of the treated areas. It is proposed to take off, landing, dropping an aircraft into the ACW exercise area by means of a pilot operator from a ground control station. The ground control point should provide reception and display on the operator's screen of flight information and several types from the aircraft. The operator can control alternately several aircraft during these phases of flight with the help of ground control authorities. In the future, it is planned to automate these stages of flight, leaving behind the pilot-operator control functions and remote control capabilities in special cases. For the navigation of the aircraft, when performing ACW on board, RTK (Real Time Kinematic) equipment is installed, providing a measurement with centimeter accuracy of coordinates and aircraft heights relative to the base station installed in the ground control station. Before the implementation of ACW, a three-dimensional digital map of the processed area is built by adding existing cadastral maps with measurements of the elevations of the section carried out with the help of on-board radio and optical altimeters of the same aircraft.
To date, the following system components have been manufactured and tested: a remotely controlled model of the MV-500 aircraft at a scale of 1:5, a satellite positioning system; system for obtaining images and telemetry information from the board model; autopilot; methods of obtaining three-dimensional digital maps of sections and planning flight trajectories for ACW.

Stiffness modeling for anthropomorphic robots
Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 4, pp. 631-651Views (last year): 3.In the work modeling method of anthropomorphic platforms is presented. An elastostatic stiffness model is used to determine positioning errors in the robot’s lower limbs. One of the main problems in achieving a fast and stable gait are deflections caused by the flexibility in the elements of the robot. This problem was solved using virtual joint modeling to predict stiffness and deformation caused by the robot weight and external forces.
To simulate a robot in the single-support phase, the robot is represented as a serial kinematic chain with a base at the supporting leg point of contact and an end effector in the swing leg foot. In the double support phase robot modeled as a parallel manipulator with an end effector in the pelvis. In this work, two cases of stiffness modeling are used: taking into account the compliance of the links and joints and taking into account only the compliance of joints. In the last case, joint compliances also include part of the link compliances. The joint stiffness parameters have been identified for two anthropomorphic robots: a small platform and a full-sized AR-601M.
Deflections maps were calculated using identified stiffness parameters and showing errors depending on the position of the robot end effector in the workspace. The errors in Z directions have maximum amplitude, due to the influence of the robot mass on its structure.

Numerical modeling of the natural convection of a non-Newtonian fluid in a closed cavity
Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 1, pp. 59-72In this paper, a time-dependent natural convective heat transfer in a closed square cavity filled with non- Newtonian fluid was considered in the presence of an isothermal energy source located on the lower wall of the region under consideration. The vertical boundaries were kept at constant low temperature, while the horizontal walls were completely insulated. The behavior of a non-Newtonian fluid was described by the Ostwald de Ville power law. The process under study was described by transient partial differential equations using dimensionless non-primitive variables “stream function – vorticity – temperature”. This method allows excluding the pressure field from the number of unknown parameters, while the non-dimensionalization allows generalizing the obtained results to a variety of physical formulations. The considered mathematical model with the corresponding boundary conditions was solved on the basis of the finite difference method. The algebraic equation for the stream function was solved by the method of successive lower relaxation. Discrete analogs of the vorticity equation and energy equation were solved by the Thomas algorithm. The developed numerical algorithm was tested in detail on a class of model problems and good agreement with other authors was achieved. Also during the study, the mesh sensitivity analysis was performed that allows choosing the optimal mesh.
As a result of numerical simulation of unsteady natural convection of a non-Newtonian power-law fluid in a closed square cavity with a local isothermal energy source, the influence of governing parameters was analyzed including the impact of the Rayleigh number in the range 104–106, power-law index $n = 0.6–1.4$, and also the position of the heating element on the flow structure and heat transfer performance inside the cavity. The analysis was carried out on the basis of the obtained distributions of streamlines and isotherms in the cavity, as well as on the basis of the dependences of the average Nusselt number. As a result, it was established that pseudoplastic fluids $(n < 1)$ intensify heat removal from the heater surface. The increase in the Rayleigh number and the central location of the heating element also correspond to the effective cooling of the heat source.

A simulation model of connected automated vehicles platoon dynamics in a heterogeneous traffic flow
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 5, pp. 1041-1058The gradual incorporation of automated vehicles into the global transport networks leads to the need to develop tools to assess the impact of this process on various aspects of traffic. This implies a more organized movement of automated vehicles which can form uniformly moving platoons. The influence of the formation and movement of these platoons on the dynamics of traffic flow is of great interest. The currently most developed traffic flow models are based on the cellular automaton approach. They are mainly developed in the direction of increasing accuracy. This inevitably leads to the complication of models, which in their modern form have significantly moved away from the original philosophy of cellular automata, which implies simplicity and schematicity of models at the level of evolution rules, leading, however, to a complex organized behavior of the system. In the present paper, a simulation model of connected automated vehicles platoon dynamics in a heterogeneous transport system is proposed, consisting of two types of agents (vehicles): human-driven and automated. The description of the temporal evolution of the system is based on modified rules 184 and 240 for elementary cellular automata. Human-driven vehicles move according to rule 184 with the addition of accidental braking, the probability of which depends on the distance to the vehicle in front. For automated vehicles, a combination of rules is used depending on the type of nearest neighbors, regardless of the distance to them, which brings non-local interaction to the model. At the same time, it is considered that a group of sequentially moving connected automated vehicles can form an organized platoon. The influence of the ratio of types of vehicles in the system on the characteristics of the traffic flow during free movement on a circular one-lane and two-lane roads, as well as in the presence of a traffic light, is studied. The simulation results show that the effect of platoon formation is significant for a freeway traffic flow; the presence of a traffic light reduces the positive effect by about half. The movement of platoons of connected automated vehicles on two-lane roads with the possibility of lane changing was also studied. It is shown that considering the types of neighboring vehicles (automated or human-driven) when changing lanes for automated vehicles has a positive effect on the characteristics of the traffic flow.

Application of the computer analogy method for solving complex nonlinear systems of differential equations
Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 6, pp. 1083-1104This study develops a previously proposed Method of Computer Analogy (MCA) based on formalization of digital computer operations. The paper discusses the position of the proposed approach among other well-known methods. It is emphasized that the primary objective is to derive analytical solutions, although in some cases they have to resort to semianalytical approximations. The paper focuses on constructing solutions for systems which, for certain parameter values, demonstrate the deterministic chaos behavior, namely Lorenz, Marioka – Shimitsu and R¨ossler systems. The paper also considers obtaining solution for Van der Pol equation (reduced to a nonlinear system). The aim of the study is to construct semi-analytical solutions represented as a segment of a power series in a step size of approximating difference scheme. To prevent overflow, authors formalize rank transfer operation. The authors apply a convergent difference scheme, referred to as the “guiding” scheme, to advance to the next step of the independent variable. The resulting approximation by a sum with only a few terms provides an approximation to the solution with any accuracy in accordance with the accuracy of the governing difference scheme. The senior digits in the resulting approximation exhibit probabilistic properties that can be modeled by known distributions, thereby enabling the derivation of analytical and semi-analytical approximations. The paper presents linear approximations that are the base for a complete approximations of solutions and provide important qualitative as well as some quantitative properties of solutions of considered systems. This work describes approximations of various orders, including those that do not guarantee convergence to the exact solution, but simplify the analysis of certain properties of nonlinear equations and systems. In particular, for the Van der Pol equation, authors demonstrate that its corresponding system has a cyclic solution and provide an estimate of its scale. A modification of the MCA that has features of the Monte Carlo method makes it possible to remove recurrent sequences and construct complete solutions in simple situations. The authors mention a promising approach for representing the solution using branched continued fractions.

Traffic cellular automata model for mixed car and truck flow on multilane highways
Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 1, pp. 61-80The objective of this article is to develop a model for a realistic description of a mixed flow of two types of vehicles (cars and trucks) on multi-lane highways, taking into account differences not only in the technical characteristics of vehicles (dimensions, maximum speed), but also differences in driving strategies. The article includes a literature review, including publications of recent years, confirming the relevance of modeling heterogeneous traffic flows.
The new model takes into account that trucks have a lower maximum speed compared to cars and are slower to start. They are less maneuverable, so it is more difficult for them to change lanes. In addition, the movement of trucks can be regulated by some restrictive rules, for example, a ban on driving in left lanes.
The model is based on the cellular automata theory, which allows for a comprehensive description of the features of individual flow components. At each time step, the state of the automaton cells is updated in two stages — changing lanes and moving forward. The algorithms of both substeps for cars and trucks differ. Each vehicle is assigned a number of parameters: vehicle type, length, maximum speed, lane change strategy, in-lane movement strategy.
The model is implemented as a software package that allows simulating traffic on various sections of the road network — intersections, sections with narrowing and widening of the road, entrances and exits from the highway. In this work, a road section with a varying number of lanes and a straight multi-lane section with a virtual detector were selected for testing the model. The results are presented in the form of local speed-density and flow-density diagrams, as well as spatiotemporal speed diagrams.
To test the model, a number of problems with different percentages of passenger cars and trucks are solved, which allows demonstrating a drop in the capacity of elements of the road network with an increase in the share of trucks in the flow. The cases of uniform distribution by lanes and the restriction to the right lane for trucks are simulated. The positive effect of introducing a ban on the movement of trucks in left lanes on a multi-lane highway is illustrated.

Physics-informed neural network for evaluating pressure drop in arterial stenoses based on simulation data
Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 3, pp. 621-641This paper describes a method for generating a synthetic database of stenoses, consisting of 1620 entries. Each entry represents the results of a numerical experiment simulating the three-dimensional flow of a viscous incompressible fluid through a tube with a variable cross-section: pressure drop, mean flow rate, cross-sectionally averaged inlet blood flow velocity, maximum stenosis severity, stenosis length, stenosis asymmetry, tube radius, and Reynolds number. The database was validated by comparison with other models (with elastic walls) and bench experiments, showing a deviation in pressure drops of no more than 4%. The synthetic stenosis database was used to train a physics-informed neural network for the rapid estimation of pressure drop based on four key input parameters: Reynolds number, stenosis length, stenosis severity, and stenosis asymmetry coefficient. The physics-informed aspect was achieved by introducing penalties into the loss function for the absence of a positive pressure drop and for the lack of monotonicity of the pressure drop with respect to the input parameters. The physics-informed neural network demonstrated higher accuracy on hemodynamically significant stenoses when tested on a validation set and on new stenoses not represented in the database. The mean relative error for stenoses with a length of 8 healthy vessel radii was 6% for the physics-informed network and 13% for a classical neural network. The errors for short stenoses with a length of 4 radii were nearly identical: 9.5% for the physics-informed network and 10% for the classical neural network. The developed method for the functional assessment of the hemodynamic significance of stenoses can be used both as a standalone tool for clinical stenosis evaluation and as a component of network blood flow models. The approach becomes most relevant when modeling multi-vessel disease, which is predominant in clinical practice. The key advantage of the method lies in the physical correctness of the results and accuracy comparable to classical modeling, but with significantly lower computational costs.

Control of the dynamics of the kink of the modified sine-Gordon equation by the external exposure with varying parameters
Computer Research and Modeling, 2013, v. 5, no. 5, pp. 821-834Views (last year): 2. Citations: 4 (RSCI).The paper presents results that confirm the ability to control the movement of the kink of the modified sine-Gordon equation with variable external force parameters. Three types of external influences have been considered: permanent action, periodic action with a constant frequency and a frequency-modulated periodic exposure. The dependences of the position and velocity of the kink on time for various values of the parameters of external influence were obtained using the method of McLaughlin and Scott. It is shown that by changing the settings, one can adjust the velocity and direction of movement of the kink.

Numerical study of the dynamics of motion of a square body in a supersonic flow behind a shock wave
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 4, pp. 755-766In a number of fundamental and practical problems, it is necessary to describe the dynamics of the motion of complexshaped particles in a high-speed gas flow. An example is the movement of coal particles behind the front of a strong shock wave during an explosion in a coal mine. The paper is devoted to numerical simulation of the dynamics of translational and rotational motion of a square-shaped body, as an example of a particle of a more complex shape than a round one, in a supersonic flow behind a passing shock wave. The formulation of the problem approximately corresponds to the experiments of Professor V. M. Boiko and Professor S. V. Poplavski (ITAM SB RAS).
Mathematical model is based on the two-dimensional Euler equations, which are solved in a region with varying boundaries. The defining system of equations is integrated using an explicit scheme and the Cartesian grid method which was developed and verified earlier. The computational algorithm at the time integration step includes: determining the step value, calculating the dynamics of the body movement (determining the force and moment acting on the body; determining the linear and angular velocities of the body; calculating the new coordinates of the body), calculating the gas parameters. To calculate numerical fluxes through the edges of the cell intersected by the boundaries of the body, we use a two-wave approximation for solving the Riemann problem and the Steger – Warming scheme.
The movement of a square with a side of 6 mm was initiated by the passage of a shock wave with a Mach number of 3,0 propagating in a flat channel 800 mm long and 60 mm wide. The channel was filled with air at low pressure. Different initial orientation of the square relative to the channel axis was considered. It is found that the initial position of the square with its side across the flow is less stable during its movement than the initial position with a diagonal across the flow. In this case, the calculated results qualitatively correspond to experimental observations. For the intermediate initial positions of a square, a typical mode of its motion is described, consisting of oscillations close to harmonic, turning into rotation with a constant average angular velocity. During the movement of the square, there is an average monotonous decrease in the distance between the center of mass and the center of pressure to zero.
