Method for coronary blood flow velocity estimation based on angiographic images
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 3, pp. 715-735

In modern cardiology, accurate assessment of the functional significance of coronary artery stenoses is a critical factor for selecting treatment strategies and making informed clinical decisions. This paper presents an automated algorithm for processing dynamic X-ray angiographic image sequences aimed at estimating blood flow velocity. This parameter serves as the basis for determining the Quantitative Flow Ratio (QFR), which acts as an effective noninvasive alternative to traditional invasive fractional flow reserve (FFR) measurements. The proposed methodology successfully overcomes classic challenges of angiographic analysis, such as vessel motion artifacts during the cardio-respiratory cycle, variable contrast opacification, and the geometric complexity of the vascular tree in two-dimensional projections.

The presented processing workflow includes several key stages. Initially, frame preprocessing is performed to suppress noise and filter out the anatomical background. Subsequently, segmentation is implemented using a Sato filter and Otsu thresholding, followed by skeletonization to extract vessel centerlines. Particular attention is paid to the algorithm for automated identification of bifurcation points and the filtration of artifactual intersections caused by vessel overlapping. To ensure data continuity, a temporal tracking method for the target segment based on template correlation is applied, which is especially important during phases with low contrast agent concentration. The mathematical core of the algorithm is based on solving a 1D inverse problem for the advection-diffusion equation, allowing for the recovery of blood flow velocity from temporal intensity curves.

As part of the study, a detailed validation of the method was conducted by comparing automated calculation results with manual expert measurements across ten clinical datasets. The results confirm the robustness of the computational scheme within physiologically relevant ranges and its ability to significantly reduce inter-observer variability. The developed approach minimizes the need for physician intervention in the data processing stage, opening up prospects for creating real-time clinical decision support systems in the catheterization laboratory setting.

  2. We propose an approach for the reconstruction and quantitative phenotyping of plant morphological traits at early ontogenetic stages based on digital image analysis. The proposed algorithm combines deep learning and graph-based representations while incorporating biological principles of morphogenesis. This integration enables the transition from binary segmentation to the reconstruction of a topologically consistent plant structure with accurate separation of intersecting root systems in images containing multiple plants. At the first stage, binary masks of seeds, shoots, and root systems are generated using a U-Net convolutional neural network architecture. The resulting image is transformed into a graph model in which edges correspond to root and shoot segments, while vertices represent key morphological points, including branching and intersection nodes. A directed traversal algorithm initialized from the seed point, combined with watershed-based graph partitioning and a composite scoring function for primary axis selection, identifies individual plants as isolated subgraphs and accurately distinguishes the primary root, lateral roots, and shoot. The validity of the algorithm was confirmed through a multi-level validation procedure, including comparison of graph reconstruction results on segmented images and end-to-end evaluation of the complete computational pipeline on original images against existing software solutions and expert manual annotations. The proposed approach is robust to variability in root system morphology and image noise and provides high accuracy in morphological trait extraction. The results of this study can be applied in plant breeding programs.

Mechanism of soliton stopping in a molecular chain without dispersion
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2009, v. 1, no. 1, pp. 93-99

It is shown by computer simulation that moving soliton-like solution exists in a molecular chain without dispersion. The speed of the solitary wave decreases with time. This decrease can be explained physically due to excitation of sites by moving wave. Maximum wave track length is estimated.

The use of cluster analysis methods for the study of a set of feasible solutions of the phase problem in biological crystallography
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2010, v. 2, no. 1, pp. 91-101

X-ray diffraction experiment allows determining of magnitudes of complex coefficients in the decomposition of the studied electron density distribution into Fourier series. The determination of the lost in the experiment phase values poses the central problem of the method, namely the phase problem. Some methods for solving of the phase problem result in a set of feasible solutions. Cluster analysis method may be used to investigate the composition of this set and to extract one or several typical solutions. An essential feature of the approach is the estimation of the closeness of two solutions by the map correlation between two aligned Fourier syntheses calculated with the use of phase sets under comparison. An interactive computer program ClanGR was designed to perform this analysis.

Molecular modeling and dynamics of serotonin 5-HT3 receptor and ligands
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2011, v. 3, no. 3, pp. 329-334

The problem of ligand binding to certain receptor proteins is of central importance in cellular signaling, but it is still unresolved at a molecular level. In order to enhance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms we used a biophysical approach to study a serotonin-gated ion channel. The molecular model of 5-HT3 receptor extracellular domain was created using computer-based homology modeling. The docking method was used for building complexes of the 5-HT3 receptor and ligands. Some different activities were investigated by the method of molecular dynamics.

Influence of diffusion and convection on the chemostat dynamics
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2012, v. 4, no. 1, pp. 121-129

Population dynamics is considered in a modified chemostat model including diffusion, chemotaxis, and nonlocal competitive losses. To account for influence of the external environment on the population of the ecosystem, a random parameter is included into the model equations. Computer simulations reveal three dynamic modes depending on system parameters: the transition from initial state to a spatially homogeneous steady state, to a spatially inhomogeneous distribution of population density, and elimination of population density.

Investigation of water injection influence on hydrocyclone separation performance
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2012, v. 4, no. 4, pp. 803-810

In this paper particularities of the swirling turbulent flow of monodisperse suspension in the hydrocyclone with injector are investigated on the base of the numerical simulation. The 2D axisymmetric approximation of Reynolds Stresses Model and model of mixture is used to describe the swirling turbulent flow field of suspension and particles parameters in the hydrocyclone. Special attention is paid to the clarification of mechanisms of injection influence on the reorganization of hydrodynamic field and finally on classification mechanisms. It is shown that tangential injection method stronger effects separation curve compared to the radial one.

    BES-III distributed computing status
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 3, pp. 469-473

The BES-III experiment at the IHEP CAS, Beijing, is running at the high-luminosity e+e- collider BEPC-II to study physics of charm quarks and tau leptons. The world largest samples of J/psi and psi' events are already collected, a number of unique data samples in the energy range 2.5–4.6 GeV have been taken. The data volume is expected to increase by an order of magnitude in the coming years. This requires to move from a centralized computing system to a distributed computing environment, thus allowing the use of computing resources from remote sites — members of the BES-III Collaboration. In this report the general information, latest results and development plans of the BES-III distributed computing system are presented.

    Atomic visualization diamond cutting
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 1, pp. 137-149

This work is devoted to creation of static atomic model of two surfaces in contact at electric diamond grinding: single-points diamond and material grinded of them. At the heart of the work there are issues of computer visualization of these surfaces at the molecular level, since traditional mathematical description does not possess sufficient visualization to demonstrate some aspects of the atomic tribology of metal cutting to simultaneously occurring the different, by their physical nature, processes. And in the electric diamond grinding blends effect of several processes simultaneously: mechanical, electrical and electrochemical. So the modeling technique proposed by authors is still the only way to see what is happening at the atomic level, cutting material of single-point diamond.

Substantiation of optimum planting schemes for forest plantations: a computer experiment
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 2, pp. 333-343

The article presents the results of computer simulations aimed to assess the influence of tree spatial locations (planting schemes) on the productivity and the dynamics of soil fertility in forest plantations. The growth of aspen (Populus tremula L.) in plantations with short rotation (30 years) was simulated in the EFIMOD system of models with the soil and climatic data matching forested lands in the Mari El Republic. The outcome reveals that higher biomass rates, increase in soil organic matter stocks, and the minimal loss of soil nitrogen can be obtained when the distance between trees in the row equals 1–4 m and 4–6 м in aisles.
