Improving the quality of route generation in SUMO based on data from detectors using reinforcement learning
Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 1, pp. 137-146This work provides a new approach for constructing high-precision routes based on data from transport detectors inside the SUMO traffic modeling package. Existing tools such as flowrouter and routeSampler have a number of disadvantages, such as the lack of interaction with the network in the process of building routes. Our rlRouter uses multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL), where the agents are incoming lanes and the environment is the road network. By performing actions to launch vehicles, agents receive a reward for matching data from transport detectors. Parameter Sharing DQN with the LSTM backbone of the Q-function was used as an algorithm for multi-agent reinforcement learning.
Since the rlRouter is trained inside the SUMO simulation, it can restore routes better by taking into account the interaction of vehicles within the network with each other and with the network infrastructure. We have modeled diverse traffic situations on three different junctions in order to compare the performance of SUMO’s routers with the rlRouter. We used Mean Absoluter Error (MAE) as the measure of the deviation from both cumulative detectors and routes data. The rlRouter achieved the highest compliance with the data from the detectors. We also found that by maximizing the reward for matching detectors, the resulting routes also get closer to the real ones. Despite the fact that the routes recovered using rlRouter are superior to the routes obtained using SUMO tools, they do not fully correspond to the real ones, due to the natural limitations of induction-loop detectors. To achieve more plausible routes, it is necessary to equip junctions with other types of transport counters, for example, camera detectors.

An agent-based model of social dynamics using swarm intelligence approaches
Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 6, pp. 1513-1527The paper considers the application of swarm intelligence technology to build agent-based simulation models. As an example, a minimal model is constructed illustrating the influence of information influences on the rules of behavior of agents in the simplest model of competition between two populations, whose agents perform the simplest task of transferring a resource from a mobile source to their territory. The algorithm for the movement of agents in the model space is implemented on the basis of the classical particle swarm algorithm. Agents have a life cycle, that is, the processes of birth and death are taken into account. The model takes into account information processes that determine the target functions of the behavior of newly appeared agents. These processes (training and poaching) are determined by information influences from populations. Under certain conditions, a third population arises in the agent system. Agents of such a population informatively influence agents of other populations in a certain radius around themselves, changing.
As a result of the conducted simulation experiments, it was shown that the following final states are realized in the system: displacement of a new population by others, coexistence of a new population and other populations and the absence of such a population. It has been shown that with an increase in the radius of influence of agents, the population with changed rules of behavior displaces all others. It is also shown that in the case of a hard-to-access resource, the strategy of luring agents of a competing population is more profitable.

The mathematical optimization model based on several quality criteria

The agent model of intercultural interactions: the emergence of cultural uncertainties
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 5, pp. 1143-1162The article describes a simulation agent-based model of intercultural interactions in a country whose population belongs to different cultures. It is believed that the space of cultures can be represented as a Hilbert space, in which certain subspaces correspond to different cultures. In the model, the concept of culture is understood as a structured subspace of the Hilbert space. This makes it possible to describe the state of agents by a vector in a Hilbert space. It is believed that each agent is described by belonging to a certain «culture». The number of agents belonging to certain cultures is determined by demographic processes that correspond to these cultures, the depth and integrity of the educational process, as well as the intensity of intercultural contacts. Interaction between agents occurs within clusters, into which, according to certain criteria, the entire set of agents is divided. When agents interact according to a certain algorithm, the length and angle that characterize the state of the agent change. In the process of imitation, depending on the number of agents belonging to different cultures, the intensity of demographic and educational processes, as well as the intensity of intercultural contacts, aggregates of agents (clusters) are formed, the agents of which belong to different cultures. Such intercultural clusters do not entirely belong to any of the cultures initially considered in the model. Such intercultural clusters create uncertainties in cultural dynamics. The paper presents the results of simulation experiments that illustrate the influence of demographic and educational processes on the dynamics of intercultural clusters. The issues of the development of the proposed approach to the study (discussion) of the transitional states of the development of cultures are discussed.

Modeling the dynamics of political positions: network density and the chances of minority
Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 3, pp. 785-796In some cases, information warfare results in almost whole population accepting one of two contesting points of view and rejecting the other. In other cases, however, the “majority party” gets only a small advantage over the “minority party”. The relevant question is which network characteristics of a population contribute to the minority being able to maintain some significant numbers. Given that some societies are more connected than others, in the sense that they have a higher density of social ties, this question is specified as follows: how does the density of social ties affect the chances of a minority to maintain a significant number? Does a higher density contribute to a landslide victory of majority, or to resistance of minority? To address this issue, we consider information warfare between two parties, called the Left and the Right, in the population, which is represented as a network, the nodes of which are individuals, and the connections correspond to their acquaintance and describe mutual influence. At each of the discrete points in time, each individual decides which party to support based on their attitude, i. e. predisposition to the Left or Right party and taking into account the influence of his network ties. The influence means here that each tie sends a cue with a certain probability to the individual in question in favor of the party that themselves currently support. If the tie switches their party affiliation, they begin to agitate the individual in question for their “new” party. Such processes create dynamics, i. e. the process of changing the partisanship of individuals. The duration of the warfare is exogenously set, with the final time point roughly associated with the election day. The described model is numerically implemented on a scale-free network. Numerical experiments have been carried out for various values of network density. Because of the presence of stochastic elements in the model, 200 runs were conducted for each density value, for each of which the final number of supporters of each of the parties was calculated. It is found that with higher density, the chances increase that the winner will cover almost the entire population. Conversely, low network density contributes to the chances of a minority to maintain significant numbers.

Simulation modeling of directed movement in illumination gradient

Competitive ad-vantages of directed movement and diverse strategies of its using in population of protozoa in illumination gradient were considered. The results consistent with r-K selection theory were obtained. Agents behavior in artificial ecosystem are in qualitative agreement with behavior observed in nature.

Development of a hybrid simulation model of the assembly shop
Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 5, pp. 1359-1379In the presented work, a hybrid optimal simulation model of an assembly shop in the AnyLogic environment has been developed, which allows you to select the parameters of production systems. To build a hybrid model of the investigative approach, discrete-event modeling and aggressive modeling are combined into a single model with an integrating interaction. Within the framework of this work, a mechanism for the development of a production system consisting of several participants-agents is described. An obvious agent corresponds to a class in which a set of agent parameters is specified. In the simulation model, three main groups of operations performed sequentially were taken into account, and the logic for working with rejected sets was determined. The product assembly process is a process that occurs in a multi-phase open-loop system of redundant service with waiting. There are also signs of a closed system — scrap flows for reprocessing. When creating a distribution system in the segment, it is mandatory to use control over the execution of requests in a FIFO queue. For the functional assessment of the production system, the simulation model includes several functional functions that describe the number of finished products, the average time of preparation of products, the number and percentage of rejects, the simulation result for the study, as well as functional variables in which the calculated utilization factors will be used. A series of modeling experiments were carried out in order to study the behavior of the agents of the system in terms of the overall performance indicators of the production system. During the experiment, it was found that the indicator of the average preparation time of the product is greatly influenced by such parameters as: the average speed of the set of products, the average time to complete operations. At a given limitation interval, we managed to select a set of parameters that managed to achieve the largest possible operation of the assembly line. This experiment implements the basic principle of agent-based modeling — decentralized agents make a personal contribution and affect the operation of the entire simulated system as a whole. As a result of the experiments, thanks to the selection of a large set of parameters, it was possible to achieve high performance indicators of the assembly shop, namely: to increase the productivity indicator by 60%; reduce the average assembly time of products by 38%.

Mathematical modeling of phase transitions during collective interaction of agents in a common thermal field
Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 5, pp. 1005-1028Collective behavior can serve as a mechanism of thermoregulation and play a key role in the joint survival of a group of organisms. In higher animals, such phenomena are usually the subject of study of biology since sudden transitions to collective behavior are difficult to differentiate from the psychological and social adaptation of animals. However, in this paper, we indicate several important examples when a flock of higher animals demonstrates phase transitions similar to known phenomena in liquids and gases. This issue can also be studied experimentally within the framework of synthetic systems consisting of self-propelled robots that act according to a certain given algorithm. Generalizing both of these cases, we consider the problem of phase transitions in a dense group of interacting selfpropelled agents. Within the framework of microscopic theory, we propose a mathematical model of the phenomenon, in which agents are represented as bodies interacting with each other in accordance with an effective potential of a special type, expressing the desire of agents to move in the direction of the gradient of the joint thermal field. We show that the number of agents in the group, the group power, is the control parameter of the problem. A discrete model with individual dynamics of agents reproduces most of the phenomena observed both in natural flocks of higher animals engaged in collective thermoregulation and in synthetic complex systems. A first-order phase transition is observed, which symbolizes a change in the aggregate state in a group of agents. One observes the self-assembly of the initial weakly structured mass of agents into dense quasi-crystalline structures. We demonstrate also that, with an increase in the group power, a second-order phase transition in the form of thermal convection can occur. It manifests in a sudden liquefaction of the group and a transition to vortex motion, which ensures more efficient energy consumption in the case of a synthetic system of interacting robots and the collective survival of all individuals in the case of natural animal flocks.With an increase in the group power, secondary bifurcations occur, the vortex structure in agent medium becomes more complicated.

Modification of Chanter–Thornley mushroom growth model and its analysis by means of multiapproach simulation

A numerical case study of the model is presented and the problem of optimum age at harvest, providing the maximum integral yield for all fruiting “waves” is solved.

High Performance Computing for Blood Modeling

Blood is considered as a particle suspencion. The methods are boundary integral equation method (BIEM), lattice Boltzmann (LBM), finite elements on dynamic mesh, dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) and agent based modeling. The analysis of these methods’ applications on high-performance systems with various architectures is presented.
