Method of forming multiprogram control of an isolated intersection
Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 2, pp. 295-303The simplest and most desirable method of traffic signal control is precalculated regulation, when the parameters of the traffic light object operation are calculated in advance and activated in accordance to a schedule. This work proposes a method of forming a signal plan that allows one to calculate the control programs and set the period of their activity. Preparation of initial data for the calculation includes the formation of a time series of daily traffic intensity with an interval of 15 minutes. When carrying out field studies, it is possible that part of the traffic intensity measurements is missing. To fill up the missing traffic intensity measurements, the spline interpolation method is used. The next step of the method is to calculate the daily set of signal plans. The work presents the interdependencies, which allow one to calculate the optimal durations of the control cycle and the permitting phase movement and to set the period of their activity. The present movement control systems have a limit on the number of control programs. To reduce the signal plans' number and to determine their activity period, the clusterization using the $k$-means method in the transport phase space is introduced In the new daily signal plan, the duration of the phases is determined by the coordinates of the received cluster centers, and the activity periods are set by the elements included in the cluster. Testing on a numerical illustration showed that, when the number of clusters is 10, the deviation of the optimal phase duration from the cluster centers does not exceed 2 seconds. To evaluate the effectiveness of the developed methodology, a real intersection with traffic light regulation was considered as an example. Based on field studies of traffic patterns and traffic demand, a microscopic model for the SUMO (Simulation of Urban Mobility) program was developed. The efficiency assessment is based on the transport losses estimated by the time spent on movement. Simulation modeling of the multiprogram control of traffic lights showed a 20% reduction in the delay time at the traffic light object in comparison with the single-program control. The proposed method allows automation of the process of calculating daily signal plans and setting the time of their activity.

Improvement of the paired comparison method for implementation in computer programs used in assessment of technical systems’ quality
Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 6, pp. 1125-1135The article describes an improved paired comparison method, which systematizes in tables the rules of logical conclusions and formulas of checking indices for comparison of technical systems. To achieve this goal, the authors formulate rational rules of logical conclusions in making a paired comparison of the systems. In addition, for the purpose of consistency check of the results of the assessment, the authors introduce parameters such as «the number of scores gained by one system» and «systems’ quality index»; moreover, they design corresponding calculation formulas. For the purposes of practical application of this method to design computer programs, the authors propose to use formalized variants of interconnected tables: a table for processing and systematization of expert information, a table of possible logical conclusions based on the results of comparison of a set number of technical systems and a table of check values in the paired comparison method used in quality assessment of a definite number of technical systems. These tables allow one to organize procedures of the information processing in a more rational way and to predominantly exclude the influence of mistakes on the results of quality assessment of technical systems at the stage of data input. The main positive effect from the implementation of the paired comparison method is observed in a considerable reduction of time and resources needed to organize experts work, process expert information, and to prepare and conduct distant interviews with experts (on the Internet or a local computer network of an organization). This effect is achieved by a rational use of input data of the quality of the systems to be assessed. The proposed method is applied to computer programs used in assessing the effectiveness and stability of large technical systems.

Automating high-quality concept banks: leveraging LLMs and multimodal evaluation metrics
Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 7, pp. 1555-1567Interpretability in recent deep learning models has become an epicenter of research particularly in sensitive domains such as healthcare, and finance. Concept bottleneck models have emerged as a promising approach for achieving transparency and interpretability by leveraging a set of humanunderstandable concepts as an intermediate representation before the prediction layer. However, manual concept annotation is discouraged due to the time and effort involved. Our work explores the potential of large language models (LLMs) for generating high-quality concept banks and proposes a multimodal evaluation metric to assess the quality of generated concepts. We investigate three key research questions: the ability of LLMs to generate concept banks comparable to existing knowledge bases like ConceptNet, the sufficiency of unimodal text-based semantic similarity for evaluating concept-class label associations, and the effectiveness of multimodal information in quantifying concept generation quality compared to unimodal concept-label semantic similarity. Our findings reveal that multimodal models outperform unimodal approaches in capturing concept-class label similarity. Furthermore, our generated concepts for the CIFAR-10 and CIFAR-100 datasets surpass those obtained from ConceptNet and the baseline comparison, demonstrating the standalone capability of LLMs in generating highquality concepts. Being able to automatically generate and evaluate high-quality concepts will enable researchers to quickly adapt and iterate to a newer dataset with little to no effort before they can feed that into concept bottleneck models.

Compact finite difference scheme for anisotropic convection Darcy
Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 2, pp. 199-211A compact finite difference scheme has been developed for modeling convection in a porous medium saturated with a fluid. We consider the problem for a rectangular domain with anisotropic permeability and thermal conductivity properties in terms of stream function and temperature deviation, taking into account Darcy's law. Boundary conditions of impenetrability and a linear distribution of temperature are set. This model is cosymmetric when certain conditions are imposed on the permeability and thermal conductivities. One parametric family of stationary convection regimes arises when mechanical equilibrium loses stability. A numerical method with a fourth-order finite difference approximation for spatial variables and a Runge – Kutta integrator for time has been developed. It has been proved that this scheme preserves cosymmetry. Numerical results for evaluating the critical Rayleigh number have been presented. We compare them with results obtained using a second-order finite-difference method. We show that critical Rayleigh numbers are repeated twice with very high accuracy, which proves cosymmetry preservation. Numerical evaluation of convective regimes and spectral properties are presented. The efficiency of the developed compact finite difference scheme on a nine-point stencil is assessed.

Coronary arteries and angioplasty balloon mechanical behavior modeling
Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 3, pp. 589-605Тhe aim of this work is to assess the mechanical behavior of coronary vessels and angioplasty balloons during the angioplasty procedure, based on intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and angiography data obtained for each patient individually. To treat atherosclerosis, a serious chronic inflammatory disease of the arteries characterized by the formation of atherosclerotic plaques, which causes vessel narrowing and impairs blood supply to tissues and organs, modern medical practice employs a minimally invasive endovascular procedure known as balloon angioplasty. Key aspects of modeling this procedure include understanding the behavior of patients’ arteries and the balloons used during the intervention. Based on intravascular ultrasound and angiography data, a biomechanical model of an artery affected by atherosclerosis is developed. A finite element model of the arterial segment is constructed, accounting for its nonlinear hyperelastic behavior. To simulate the behavior of the angioplasty balloon, a mathematical model of the balloon is developed and validated against experimental data. An assessment of the stress-strain state of a specific patient’s coronary artery and angioplasty balloon is performed. For a full-scale simulation of the angioplasty process, a mathematical model is developed that incorporates all three objects considered above: personalization of the artery model through the use of real patient data; a finite element model of the artery built based on of the personalized model, accounting for its nonlinear behavior; a finite element model of the angioplasty balloon. The developed mathematical models and the results obtained from them will further allow us to derive dependencies of key angioplasty parameters. These dependencies can be used to improve angioplasty techniques based on intravascular imaging data. Furthermore, the application of mathematical modeling methods will help reduce the number of clinical trials in this field.

Training and assessment the generalization ability of interpolation methods
Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 5, pp. 1023-1031Views (last year): 7. Citations: 5 (RSCI).We investigate machine learning methods with a certain kind of decision rule. In particular, inverse-distance method of interpolation, method of interpolation by radial basis functions, the method of multidimensional interpolation and approximation, based on the theory of random functions, the last method of interpolation is kriging. This paper shows a method of rapid retraining “model” when adding new data to the existing ones. The term “model” means interpolating or approximating function constructed from the training data. This approach reduces the computational complexity of constructing an updated “model” from $O(n^3)$ to $O(n^2)$. We also investigate the possibility of a rapid assessment of generalizing opportunities “model” on the training set using the method of cross-validation leave-one-out cross-validation, eliminating the major drawback of this approach — the necessity to build a new “model” for each element which is removed from the training set.

Modelling the risk of insect impacts on forest stands after possible climate changes
Computer Research and Modeling, 2016, v. 8, no. 2, pp. 241-253A model of forest insect population dynamics used to simulate of “forest-insect” interactions and for estimation of possible damages of forest stand by pests. This model represented a population as control system where the input variables characterized the influence of modifier (climatic) factors and the feedback loop describes the effect of regulatory factors (parasites, predators and population interactions). The technique of stress testing on the basis of population dynamics model proposed for assessment of the risks of forest stand damage and destruction after insect impact. The dangerous forest pest pine looper Bupalus piniarius L. considered as the object of analysis. Computer experiments were conducted to assess of outbreak risks with possible climate change in the territory of Central Siberia. Model experiments have shown that risk of insect impact on the forest is not increased significantly in condition of sufficiently moderate warming (not more than 4 °C in summer period). However, a stronger warming in the territory of Central Siberia, combined with a dry summer condition could cause a significant increase in the risk of pine looper outbreaks.

Movement of sediment over periodic bed
Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 1, pp. 47-60Views (last year): 9.The movement of bed load along the closed conduit can lead to a loss of stability of the bed surface, when bed waves arise at the bed of the channel. Investigation of the development of bed waves is associated with the possibility of determining of the bed load nature along the bed of the periodic form. Despite the great attention of many researchers to this problem, the question of the development of bed waves remains open at the present time. This is due to the fact that in the analysis of this process many researchers use phenomenological formulas for sediment transport in their work. The results obtained in such models allow only assess qualitatly the development of bed waves. For this reason, it is of interest to carry out an analysis of the development of bed waves using the analytical model for sediment transport.
The paper proposed two-dimensional profile mathematical riverbed model, which allows to investigate the movement of sediment over a periodic bed. A feature of the mathematical model is the possibility of calculating the bed load transport according to an analytical model with the Coulomb–Prandtl rheology, which takes into account the influence of bottom surface slopes, bed normal and tangential stresses on the movement of bed material. It is shown that when the bed material moves along the bed of periodic form, the diffusion and pressure transport of bed load are multidirectional and dominant with respect to the transit flow. Influence of the effects of changes in wave shape on the contribution of transit, diffusion and pressure transport to the total sediment transport has been studied. Comparison of the received results with numerical solutions of the other authors has shown their good qualitative initiation.

Buckling problems of thin elastic shells
Computer Research and Modeling, 2018, v. 10, no. 6, pp. 775-787Views (last year): 23.The article covers several mathematical problems relating to elastic stability of thin shells in view of inconsistencies that have been recently identified between the experimental data and the predictions based on the shallow- shell theory. It is highlighted that the contradictions were caused by new algorithms that enabled updating the values of the so called “low critical stresses” calculated in the 20th century and adopted as a buckling criterion for thin shallow shells by technical standards. The new calculations often find the low critical stress close to zero. Therefore, the low critical stress cannot be used as a safety factor for the buckling analysis of the thinwalled structure, and the equations of the shallow-shell theory need to be replaced with other differential equations. The new theory also requires a buckling criterion ensuring the match between calculations and experimental data.
The article demonstrates that the contradiction with the new experiments can be resolved within the dynamic nonlinear three-dimensional theory of elasticity. The stress when bifurcation of dynamic modes occurs shall be taken as a buckling criterion. The nonlinear form of original equations causes solitary (solitonic) waves that match non-smooth displacements (patterns, dents) of the shells. It is essential that the solitons make an impact at all stages of loading and significantly increase closer to bifurcation. The solitonic solutions are illustrated based on the thin cylindrical momentless shell when its three-dimensional volume is simulated with twodimensional surface of the set thickness. It is noted that the pattern-generating waves can be detected (and their amplitudes can by identified) with acoustic or electromagnetic devices.
Thus, it is technically possible to reduce the risk of failure of the thin shells by monitoring the shape of the surface with acoustic devices. The article concludes with a setting of the mathematical problems requiring the solution for the reliable numerical assessment of the buckling criterion for thin elastic shells.

Development of anisotropic nonlinear noise-reduction algorithm for computed tomography data with context dynamic threshold
Computer Research and Modeling, 2019, v. 11, no. 2, pp. 233-248Views (last year): 21.The article deals with the development of the noise-reduction algorithm based on anisotropic nonlinear data filtering of computed tomography (CT). Analysis of domestic and foreign literature has shown that the most effective algorithms for noise reduction of CT data use complex methods for analyzing and processing data, such as bilateral, adaptive, three-dimensional and other types of filtrations. However, a combination of such techniques is rarely used in practice due to long processing time per slice. In this regard, it was decided to develop an efficient and fast algorithm for noise-reduction based on simplified bilateral filtration method with three-dimensional data accumulation. The algorithm was developed on C ++11 programming language in Microsoft Visual Studio 2015. The main difference of the developed noise reduction algorithm is the use an improved mathematical model of CT noise, based on the distribution of Poisson and Gauss from the logarithmic value, developed earlier by our team. This allows a more accurate determination of the noise level and, thus, the threshold of data processing. As the result of the noise reduction algorithm, processed CT data with lower noise level were obtained. Visual evaluation of the data showed the increased information content of the processed data, compared to original data, the clarity of the mapping of homogeneous regions, and a significant reduction in noise in processing areas. Assessing the numerical results of the algorithm showed a decrease in the standard deviation (SD) level by more than 6 times in the processed areas, and high rates of the determination coefficient showed that the data were not distorted and changed only due to the removal of noise. Usage of newly developed context dynamic threshold made it possible to decrease SD level on every area of data. The main difference of the developed threshold is its simplicity and speed, achieved by preliminary estimation of the data array and derivation of the threshold values that are put in correspondence with each pixel of the CT. The principle of its work is based on threshold criteria, which fits well both into the developed noise reduction algorithm based on anisotropic nonlinear filtration, and another algorithm of noise-reduction. The algorithm successfully functions as part of the MultiVox workstation and is being prepared for implementation in a single radiological network of the city of Moscow.
