Numerical study of intense shock waves in dusty media with a homogeneous and two-component carrier phase
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 1, pp. 141-154

The article is devoted to the numerical study of shock-wave flows in inhomogeneous media–gas mixtures. In this work, a two-speed two-temperature model is used, in which the dispersed component of the mixture has its own speed and temperature. To describe the change in the concentration of the dispersed component, the equation of conservation of “average density” is solved. This study took into account interphase thermal interaction and interphase pulse exchange. The mathematical model allows the carrier component of the mixture to be described as a viscous, compressible and heat-conducting medium. The system of equations was solved using the explicit Mac-Cormack second-order finite-difference method. To obtain a monotone numerical solution, a nonlinear correction scheme was applied to the grid function. In the problem of shock-wave flow, the Dirichlet boundary conditions were specified for the velocity components, and the Neumann boundary conditions were specified for the other unknown functions. In numerical calculations, in order to reveal the dependence of the dynamics of the entire mixture on the properties of the solid component, various parameters of the dispersed phase were considered — the volume content as well as the linear size of the dispersed inclusions. The goal of the research was to determine how the properties of solid inclusions affect the parameters of the dynamics of the carrier medium — gas. The motion of an inhomogeneous medium in a shock duct divided into two parts was studied, the gas pressure in one of the channel compartments is more important than in the other. The article simulated the movement of a direct shock wave from a high-pressure chamber to a low–pressure chamber filled with a dusty medium and the subsequent reflection of a shock wave from a solid surface. An analysis of numerical calculations showed that a decrease in the linear particle size of the gas suspension and an increase in the physical density of the material from which the particles are composed leads to the formation of a more intense reflected shock wave with a higher temperature and gas density, as well as a lower speed of movement of the reflected disturbance reflected wave.

Tracking on the BESIII CGEM inner detector using deep learning
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2020, v. 12, no. 6, pp. 1361-1381

The reconstruction of charged particle trajectories in tracking detectors is a key problem in the analysis of experimental data for high energy and nuclear physics.

The amount of data in modern experiments is so large that classical tracking methods such as Kalman filter can not process them fast enough. To solve this problem, we have developed two neural network algorithms of track recognition, based on deep learning architectures, for local (track by track) and global (all tracks in an event) tracking in the GEM tracker of the BM@N experiment at JINR (Dubna). The advantage of deep neural networks is the ability to detect hidden nonlinear dependencies in data and the capability of parallel execution of underlying linear algebra operations.

In this work we generalize these algorithms to the cylindrical GEM inner tracker of BESIII experiment. The neural network model RDGraphNet for global track finding, based on the reverse directed graph, has been successfully adapted. After training on Monte Carlo data, testing showed encouraging results: recall of 98% and precision of 86% for track finding.

The local neural network model TrackNETv2 was also adapted to BESIII CGEM successfully. Since the tracker has only three detecting layers, an additional neuro-classifier to filter out false tracks have been introduced. Preliminary tests demonstrated the recall value at the first stage of 99%. After applying the neuro-classifier, the precision was 77% with a slight decrease of the recall to 94%. This result can be improved after the further model optimization.

On the issue of numerical modeling of internal ballistics for a tubular charge in a spatial setting
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 5, pp. 993-1010

There are conditions of uneven combustion for tubular powder elements of large elongation used in artillery propelling charges. Here it is necessary to consider in parallel the processes of combustion and movement of powder gases inside and outside the channels of the powder tubes. Without this, it is impossible to adequately formulate and solve the problems of ignition, erosive combustion and stress-strain state of tubular powder elements in the shot process. The paper presents a physical and mathematical formulation of the main problem of the internal ballistics of an artillery shot for a charge consisting of a set of powder tubes. Combustion and movement of a bundle of powder tubes along the barrel channel is modeled by an equivalent tubular charge of all-round combustion. The end and cross-sectional areas of the channel of such a charge (equivalent tube) are equal to the sum of the areas of the ends and cross-sections of the channels of the powder tubes, respectively. The combustion surface of the channel is equal to the sum of the inner surfaces of the tubes in the bundle. The outer combustion surface of the equivalent tube is equal to the sum of the outer surfaces of the tubes in the bundle. It is assumed that the equivalent tube moves along the axis of the bore. The speed of motion of an equivalent tubular charge and its current position are determined from Newton’s second law. To calculate the flow parameters, we used two-dimensional axisymmetric equations of gas dynamics, for the solution of which an axisymmetric orthogonalized difference mesh is constructed, which adapts to the flow conditions. When the tube moves and burns, the difference grid is rearranged taking into account the changing regions of integration. The control volume method is used for the numerical solution of the system of gas-dynamic equations. The gas parameters at the boundaries of the control volumes are determined using a self-similar solution to the Godunov problem of decay for an arbitrary discontinuity. The developed technique was used to calculate the internal ballistics parameters of an artillery shot. This approach is considered for the first time and allows a new approach to the design of tubular artillery charges, since it allows obtaining the necessary information in the form of fields of velocity and pressure of powder gases for calculating the process of gradual ignition, unsteady erosive combustion, stress-strain state and strength of powder elements during the shot. The time dependences of the parameters of the internal ballistics process and the distribution of the main parameters of the flow of combustion products at different times are presented.

  4. In Russian medicine two radiopharmaceuticals are currently used for radionuclide therapy of bone metastases: 89Sr-chloride and 153Sm-oxabifor. The first one has many side effects, so its use is limited. The second one is available only in clinics, its transportation to which does not take much time. Currently, the third radiopharmaceutical 188Re-solerene is undergoing clinical trials. Due to the generator method of obtaining 188Re, this radiopharmaceutical should become available for use in many regions of our country. Therefore, there is a need for a comparative analysis of the characteristics of these radiopharmaceuticals, including on the basis of mathematical modeling.

The article discusses the features of mathematical modeling the kinetics of osteotropic radiopharmaceutical drugs in the human body with bone metastases. Based on the four-compartment model, a complex of modeling and calculation of pharmacokinetic and dosimetric characteristics of radiopharmaceuticals for radionuclide therapy of bone metastases was developed and tested. Using clinical data, the transport constants of the model were identified and the individual characteristics of Russian radiopharmaceuticals labeled 89Sr, 153Sm and 188Re were calculated (effective half-lives, maximum activity in the compartments and the times of their achievement, absorbed doses to bone tissue and metastases, endosteal bone layer, red bone marrow, blood, kidneys and bladder). The time activity dependencies for all compartments of the model are obtained and analyzed. A comparative analysis of the pharmacokinetics and dosimetry of three radiopharmaceuticals (89Sr-chloride, 153Sm-oxabiphore, 188Re-solerene) was carried out.

From a comparative analysis of the pharmacokinetic and dosimetric characteristics of these radiopharmaceutical drugs, it follows that the best of them for widespread use in many regions of our country should be 188Re-solerene, taking into account the generator method of obtaining 188Re in a hospital.

Simulation of spin wave amplification using the method of characteristics to the transport equation
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 4, pp. 795-803

The paper presents an analysis of the nonlinear equation of spin wave transport by the method of characteristics. The conclusion of a new mathematical model of spin wave propagation is presented for the solution of which the characteristic is applied. The behavior analysis of the behavior of the real and imaginary parts of the wave and its amplitude is performed. The phase portraits demonstrate the dependence of the desired function on the nonlinearity coefficient. It is established that the real and imaginary parts of the wave oscillate by studying the nature of the evolution of the initial wave profile by the phase plane method. The transition of trajectories from an unstable focus to a limiting cycle, which corresponds to the oscillation of the real and imaginary parts, is shown. For the amplitude of the wave, such a transition is characterized by its amplification or attenuation (depending on the nonlinearity coefficient and the chosen initial conditions) up to a certain threshold value. It is shown that the time of the transition process from amplification (attenuation) to stabilization of the amplitude also depends on the nonlinearity parameter. It was found out that at the interval of amplification of the amplitude of the spin wave, the time of the transition process decreases, and lower amplitude values correspond to higher parameters of nonlinearity.

Subgradient methods with B.T. Polyak-type step for quasiconvex minimization problems with inequality constraints and analogs of the sharp minimum
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 1, pp. 105-122

In this paper, we consider two variants of the concept of sharp minimum for mathematical programming problems with quasiconvex objective function and inequality constraints. It investigated the problem of describing a variant of a simple subgradient method with switching along productive and non-productive steps, for which, on a class of problems with Lipschitz functions, it would be possible to guarantee convergence with the rate of geometric progression to the set of exact solutions or its vicinity. It is important that to implement the proposed method there is no need to know the sharp minimum parameter, which is usually difficult to estimate in practice. To overcome this problem, the authors propose to use a step adjustment procedure similar to that previously proposed by B. T. Polyak. However, in this case, in comparison with the class of problems without constraints, it arises the problem of knowing the exact minimal value of the objective function. The paper describes the conditions for the inexactness of this information, which make it possible to preserve convergence with the rate of geometric progression in the vicinity of the set of minimum points of the problem. Two analogs of the concept of a sharp minimum for problems with inequality constraints are considered. In the first one, the problem of approximation to the exact solution arises only to a pre-selected level of accuracy, for this, it is considered the case when the minimal value of the objective function is unknown; instead, it is given some approximation of this value. We describe conditions on the inexact minimal value of the objective function, under which convergence to the vicinity of the desired set of points with a rate of geometric progression is still preserved. The second considered variant of the sharp minimum does not depend on the desired accuracy of the problem. For this, we propose a slightly different way of checking whether the step is productive, which allows us to guarantee the convergence of the method to the exact solution with the rate of geometric progression in the case of exact information. Convergence estimates are proved under conditions of weak convexity of the constraints and some restrictions on the choice of the initial point, and a corollary is formulated for the convex case when the need for an additional assumption on the choice of the initial point disappears. For both approaches, it has been proven that the distance from the current point to the set of solutions decreases with increasing number of iterations. This, in particular, makes it possible to limit the requirements for the properties of the used functions (Lipschitz-continuous, sharp minimum) only for a bounded set. Some computational experiments are performed, including for the truss topology design problem.

  7. The article deals with the nonlinear boundary-value problem of hydrogen permeability corresponding to the following experiment. A membrane made of the target structural material heated to a sufficiently high temperature serves as the partition in the vacuum chamber. Degassing is performed in advance. A constant pressure of gaseous (molecular) hydrogen is built up at the inlet side. The penetrating flux is determined by mass-spectrometry in the vacuum maintained at the outlet side.

A linear model of dependence on concentration is adopted for the coefficient of dissolved atomic hydrogen diffusion in the bulk. The temperature dependence conforms to the Arrhenius law. The surface processes of dissolution and sorptiondesorption are taken into account in the form of nonlinear dynamic boundary conditions (differential equations for the dynamics of surface concentrations of atomic hydrogen). The characteristic mathematical feature of the boundary-value problem is that concentration time derivatives are included both in the diffusion equation and in the boundary conditions with quadratic nonlinearity. In terms of the general theory of functional differential equations, this leads to the so-called neutral type equations and requires a more complex mathematical apparatus. An iterative computational algorithm of second-(higher- )order accuracy is suggested for solving the corresponding nonlinear boundary-value problem based on explicit-implicit difference schemes. To avoid solving the nonlinear system of equations at every time step, we apply the explicit component of difference scheme to slower sub-processes.

The results of numerical modeling are presented to confirm the fitness of the model to experimental data. The degrees of impact of variations in hydrogen permeability parameters (“derivatives”) on the penetrating flux and the concentration distribution of H atoms through the sample thickness are determined. This knowledge is important, in particular, when designing protective structures against hydrogen embrittlement or membrane technologies for producing high-purity hydrogen. The computational algorithm enables using the model in the analysis of extreme regimes for structural materials (pressure drops, high temperatures, unsteady heating), identifying the limiting factors under specific operating conditions, and saving on costly experiments (especially in deuterium-tritium investigations).

    Special action and counter-terrorism models
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 6, pp. 1467-1498

Special actions (guerrilla, anti-guerrilla, reconnaissance and sabotage, subversive, counter-terrorist, counter-sabotage, etc.) are organized and conducted by law enforcement and armed forces and are aimed at protecting citizens and ensuring national security. Since the early 2000s, the problems of special actions have attracted the attention of specialists in the field of modeling, sociologists, physicists and representatives of other sciences. This article reviews and characterizes the works in the field of modeling special actions and counterterrorism. The works are classified by modeling methods (descriptive, optimization and game-theoretic), by types and stages of actions, and by phases of management (preparation and conduct of activities). The second section presents a classification of methods and models for special actions and counterterrorism, and gives a brief overview of descriptive models. The method of geographic profiling, network games, models of dynamics of special actions, the function of victory in combat and special actions (the dependence of the probability of victory on the correlation of forces and means of the parties) are considered. The third section considers the “attacker – defender” game and its extensions: the Stackelberg game and the Stackelberg security game, as well as issues of their application in security tasks In the “attacker – defender” game and security games, known works are classified on the following grounds: the sequence of moves, the number of players and their target functions, the time horizon of the game, the degree of rationality of the players and their attitude to risk, the degree of awareness of the players. The fourth section is devoted to the description of patrolling games on a graph with discrete time and simultaneous choice by the parties of their actions (Nash equilibrium is computed to find optimal strategies). The fifth section deals with game-theoretic models of transportation security as applications of Stackelberg security games. The last section is devoted to the review and characterization of a number of models of border security in two phases of management: preparation and conduct of activities. An example of effective interaction between Coast Guard units and university researchers is considered. Promising directions for further research are the following: first, modeling of counter-terrorist and special operations to neutralize terrorist and sabotage groups with the involvement of multidepartmental and heterogeneous forces and means, second, complexification of models by levels and stages of activity cycles, third, development of game-theoretic models of combating maritime terrorism and piracy.

    Deriving specifications of dependable systems
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 7, pp. 1637-1650

Although human skills are heavily involved in the Requirements Engineering process, in particular, in requirements elicitation, analysis and specification, still methodology and formalism play a determining role in providing clarity and enabling analysis. In this paper, we propose a method for deriving formal specifications, which are applicable to dependable software systems. First, we clarify what the method itself is. Computer science has a proliferation of languages and methods, but the difference between the two is not always clear. This is a conceptual contribution. Furthermore, we propose the idea of Layered Fault Tolerant Specification (LFTS). The principle consists in layering specifications in (at least) two different layers: one for normal behaviors and others (if more than one) for abnormal behaviors. Abnormal behaviors are described in terms of an Error Injector (EI), which represent a model of the expected erroneous interference coming from the environment. This structure has been inspired by the notion of an idealized Fault Tolerant component, but the combination of LFTS and EI using rely guarantee thinking to describe interference is our second contribution. The overall result is the definition of a method for the specification of systems that do not run in isolation but in the real, physical world. We propose an approach that is pragmatic to its target audience: techniques must scale and be usable by non-experts, if they are to make it into an industrial setting. This article is making tentative steps, but the recent trends in Software Engineering such as Microservices, smart and software-defined buildings, M2M micropayments and Devops are relevant fields continue the investigation concerning dependability and rely guarantee thinking.

Comprehensive analysis of copper ions effect on the primary processes of photosynthesis in Scenedesmus quadricauda based on chlorophyll a fluorescence measurements in suspension and on single cells
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 2, pp. 293-322

The effect of copper ions on the primary processes of photosynthesis in freshwater microalgae Scenedesmus quadricauda was studied using a set of biophysical and mathematical methods. Chlorophyll a fluorescence transients were recorded both in cell suspensions and at the level of single cells after incubation at copper concentrations of 0.1–10 $\mu$M under light and dark conditions. It was found that copper has a dose-dependent effect on the photosynthetic apparatus of microalgae. At low copper concentration (0.1 $\mu$M), a stimulating effect on a number of studied parameters was observed, whereas significant disruption of Photosystem II activity was detected at 10 $\mu$M. The method of analyzing fluorescence of single cells proved to be more sensitive compared to traditional suspension measurements, allowing the detection of heterogeneous cellular responses to the toxicant. Analysis of chlorophyll a fast fluorescence kinetics showed that the JIP-test parameters $\delta_{Ro}$ and $\varphi_{Ro}$ were the most sensitive to copper exposure and were significantly different from the control when exposed not only to high but also to medium (1 $\mu$M) copper concentrations. The decrease in photochemical activity of cells during light incubation was less pronounced compared to dark conditions. The application of data normalization to optical density at $\lambda = 455$ nm significantly increased the sensitivity of the method and accuracy of result interpretation. The use of L1-regularization (LASSO) by the least angles method (LARS) for the spectral multi-exponential approximation of the fluorescence transients allowed us to reveal their temporal characteristics. Mathematical analysis of the obtained data suggested that copper exposure leads to increased non-photochemical quenching of fluorescence, which serves as a protective mechanism for dissipating excess excitation energy. The revealed heterogeneity of cellular responses to copper action may have important ecological significance, ensuring the survival of part of the population under stress conditions. The obtained data confirm the promise of using fluorescent analysis methods for early diagnosis of heavy metal stress effects on photosynthesizing organisms.
