Physics-assisted cascade neural network model for predicting pressure losses of a three-phase mixture in a pipeline
Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 1, pp. 117-131The paper presents a cascade model of a physically supported neural network designed to predict pressure drop in three-phase flow (oil, gas, water) in a pipe section with various angles of inclination. To overcome the constraints of existing empirical correlations and computation-intensive numerical modeling methods, we propose an architecture that decomposes the problem into three sequential physically interpretable subtasks: regression prediction of the fluid hold-up coefficient, fluid flow regime classification, and pressure gradient evaluation. Each subtask is solved by a separate fully connected neural network, the output of which is passed to the next model in the cascade. Training and testing of the proposed architecture was performed on an extensive synthetic dataset (8 · 107 records) generated using a semi-empirical model. Verification is performed on independent experimental data. A comparative analysis with a single fully connected (non-cascade) neural network is made, and the sensitivity of the models is examined using Sobol and Borgonovo methods. The cascade model demonstrates superior accuracy and ensures high interpretability of results by providing intermediate physical parameters (fluid hold-up coefficient, flow regime). The developed model has low computational complexity, which allows it to be used in real-time systems and digital twins of hydraulic systems in the oil and gas industry.

Numerical simulation of electromagnetic properties of the saturated rock media with surface conductivity effects
Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 5, pp. 1081-1088Views (last year): 4. Citations: 1 (RSCI).New numerical simulation technique to calculate electrical properties of rocks with two-phase “oil– water” saturation is proposed. This technique takes into account surface conductivity of electrical double layers at the contact between solid rock and aqueous solution inside pore space. The numerical simulation technique is based on acquiring of electrical potential distribution in high-resolution three-dimensional digital model of porous medium. The digital model incorporates the spatial geometry of pore channels and contains bulk and surface grid cells. Numerical simulation results demonstrate the importance of surface conductivity effects.

Mathematical and computational problems associated with the formation of structures in complex systems
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 4, pp. 805-815In this paper, the system of equations of magnetic hydrodynamics (MHD) is considered. The exact solutions found describe fluid flows in a porous medium and are related to the development of a core simulator and are aimed at creating a domestic technology «digital deposit» and the tasks of controlling the parameters of incompressible fluid. The central problem associated with the use of computer technology is large-dimensional grid approximations and high-performance supercomputers with a large number of parallel microprocessors. Kinetic methods for solving differential equations and methods for «gluing» exact solutions on coarse grids are being developed as possible alternatives to large-dimensional grid approximations. A comparative analysis of the efficiency of computing systems allows us to conclude that it is necessary to develop the organization of calculations based on integer arithmetic in combination with universal approximate methods. A class of exact solutions of the Navier – Stokes system is proposed, describing three-dimensional flows for an incompressible fluid, as well as exact solutions of nonstationary three-dimensional magnetic hydrodynamics. These solutions are important for practical problems of controlled dynamics of mineralized fluids, as well as for creating test libraries for verification of approximate methods. A number of phenomena associated with the formation of macroscopic structures due to the high intensity of interaction of elements of spatially homogeneous systems, as well as their occurrence due to linear spatial transfer in spatially inhomogeneous systems, are highlighted. It is fundamental that the emergence of structures is a consequence of the discontinuity of operators in the norms of conservation laws. The most developed and universal is the theory of computational methods for linear problems. Therefore, from this point of view, the procedures of «immersion» of nonlinear problems into general linear classes by changing the initial dimension of the description and expanding the functional spaces are important. Identification of functional solutions with functions makes it possible to calculate integral averages of an unknown, but at the same time its nonlinear superpositions, generally speaking, are not weak limits of nonlinear superpositions of approximations of the method, i.e. there are functional solutions that are not generalized in the sense of S. L. Sobolev.

Monitoring the spread of Sosnowskyi’s hogweed using a random forest machine learning algorithm in Google Earth Engine
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 6, pp. 1357-1370Examining the spectral response of plants from data collected using remote sensing has a lot of potential for solving real-world problems in different fields of research. In this study, we have used the spectral property to identify the invasive plant Heracleum sosnowskyi Manden from satellite imagery. H. sosnowskyi is an invasive plant that causes many harms to humans, animals and the ecosystem at large. We have used data collected from the years 2018 to 2020 containing sample geolocation data from the Moscow Region where this plant exists and we have used Sentinel-2 imagery for the spectral analysis towards the aim of detecting it from the satellite imagery. We deployed a Random Forest (RF) machine learning model within the framework of Google Earth Engine (GEE). The algorithm learns from the collected data, which is made up of 12 bands of Sentinel-2, and also includes the digital elevation together with some spectral indices, which are used as features in the algorithm. The approach used is to learn the biophysical parameters of H. sosnowskyi from its reflectances by fitting the RF model directly from the data. Our results demonstrate how the combination of remote sensing and machine learning can assist in locating H. sosnowskyi, which aids in controlling its invasive expansion. Our approach provides a high detection accuracy of the plant, which is 96.93%.

Determination of post-reconstruction correction factors for quantitative assessment of pathological bone lesions using gamma emission tomography
Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 4, pp. 677-696In single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), patients with bone disorders receive a radiopharmaceutical (RP) that accumulates selectively in pathological lesions. Accurate quantification of RP uptake plays a critical role in disease staging, prognosis, and the development of personalized treatment strategies. Traditionally, the accuracy of quantitative assessment is evaluated through in vitro clinical trials using the standardized physical NEMA IEC phantom, which contains six spheres simulating lesions of various sizes. However, such experiments are limited by high costs and radiation exposure to researchers. This study proposes an alternative in silico approach based on numerical simulation using a digital twin of the NEMA IEC phantom. The computational framework allows for extensive testing under varying conditions without physical constraints. Analogous to clinical protocols, we calculated the recovery coefficient (RCmax), defined as the ratio of the maximum activity in a lesion to its known true value. The simulation settings were tailored to clinical SPECT/CT protocols involving 99mTc for patients with bone-related diseases. For the first time, we systematically analyzed the impact of lesion-to-background ratios and post-reconstruction filtering on RCmax values. Numerical experiments revealed the presence of edge artifacts in reconstructed lesion images, consistent with those observed in both real NEMA IEC phantom studies and patient scans. These artifacts introduce instability into the iterative reconstruction process and lead to errors in activity quantification. Our results demonstrate that post-filtering helps suppress edge artifacts and stabilizes the solution. However, it also significantly underestimates activity in small lesions. To address this issue, we introduce post-reconstruction correction factors derived from our simulations to improve the accuracy of quantification in lesions smaller than 20 mm in diameter.

Automated morphological trait analysis of plants in early ontogeny for breeding applications using deep learning segmentation and graph-based analysis
Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 4, pp. 891-908We propose an approach for the reconstruction and quantitative phenotyping of plant morphological traits at early ontogenetic stages based on digital image analysis. The proposed algorithm combines deep learning and graph-based representations while incorporating biological principles of morphogenesis. This integration enables the transition from binary segmentation to the reconstruction of a topologically consistent plant structure with accurate separation of intersecting root systems in images containing multiple plants. At the first stage, binary masks of seeds, shoots, and root systems are generated using a U-Net convolutional neural network architecture. The resulting image is transformed into a graph model in which edges correspond to root and shoot segments, while vertices represent key morphological points, including branching and intersection nodes. A directed traversal algorithm initialized from the seed point, combined with watershed-based graph partitioning and a composite scoring function for primary axis selection, identifies individual plants as isolated subgraphs and accurately distinguishes the primary root, lateral roots, and shoot. The validity of the algorithm was confirmed through a multi-level validation procedure, including comparison of graph reconstruction results on segmented images and end-to-end evaluation of the complete computational pipeline on original images against existing software solutions and expert manual annotations. The proposed approach is robust to variability in root system morphology and image noise and provides high accuracy in morphological trait extraction. The results of this study can be applied in plant breeding programs.

Coherent constant delay transceiver for a synchronous fiber optic network
Computer Research and Modeling, 2023, v. 15, no. 1, pp. 141-155This paper proposes the implementation of a coherent transceiver with a constant delay and the ability to select any clock frequency grid used for clocking peripheral DACs and ADCs, tasks of device synchronization and data transmission. The choice of the required clock frequency grid directly affects the data transfer rate in the network, however, it allows one to flexibly configure the network for the tasks of transmitting clock signals and subnanosecond generation of sync signals on all devices in the network. A method for increasing the synchronization accuracy to tenths of nanoseconds by using digital phase detectors and a Phase Locked Loop (PLL) system on the slave device is proposed. The use of high-speed fiber-optic communication lines (FOCL) for synchronization tasks allows simultaneously exchanging control commands and signaling data. To simplify and reduce the cost of devices of a synchronous network of transceivers, it is proposed to use a clock signal restored from a data transmission line to filter phase noise and form a frequency grid in the PLL system for heterodyne signals and clock peripheral devices, including DAC and ADC. The results of multiple synchronization tests in the proposed synchronous network are presented.

A framework for medical image segmentation based on measuring diversity of pixel’s intensity utilizing interval approach
Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 5, pp. 1059-1066Segmentation of medical image is one of the most challenging tasks in analysis of medical image. It classifies the organs pixels or lesions from medical images background like MRI or CT scans, that is to provide critical information about the human organ’s volumes and shapes. In scientific imaging field, medical imaging is considered one of the most important topics due to the rapid and continuing progress in computerized medical image visualization, advances in analysis approaches and computer-aided diagnosis. Digital image processing becomes more important in healthcare field due to the growing use of direct digital imaging systems for medical diagnostics. Due to medical imaging techniques, approaches of image processing are now applicable in medicine. Generally, various transformations will be needed to extract image data. Also, a digital image can be considered an approximation of a real situation includes some uncertainty derived from the constraints on the process of vision. Since information on the level of uncertainty will influence an expert’s attitude. To address this challenge, we propose novel framework involving interval concept that consider a good tool for dealing with the uncertainty, In the proposed approach, the medical images are transformed into interval valued representation approach and entropies are defined for an image object and background. Then we determine a threshold for lower-bound image and for upper-bound image, and then calculate the mean value for the final output results. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework, we evaluate it by using synthetic image and its ground truth. Experimental results showed how performance of the segmentation-based entropy threshold can be enhanced using proposed approach to overcome ambiguity.

Extracting knowledge from text messages: overview and state-of-the-art
Computer Research and Modeling, 2021, v. 13, no. 6, pp. 1291-1315In general, solving the information explosion problem can be delegated to systems for automatic processing of digital data. These systems are intended for recognizing, sorting, meaningfully processing and presenting data in formats readable and interpretable by humans. The creation of intelligent knowledge extraction systems that handle unstructured data would be a natural solution in this area. At the same time, the evident progress in these tasks for structured data contrasts with the limited success of unstructured data processing, and, in particular, document processing. Currently, this research area is undergoing active development and investigation. The present paper is a systematic survey on both Russian and international publications that are dedicated to the leading trend in automatic text data processing: Text Mining (TM). We cover the main tasks and notions of TM, as well as its place in the current AI landscape. Furthermore, we analyze the complications that arise during the processing of texts written in natural language (NLP) which are weakly structured and often provide ambiguous linguistic information. We describe the stages of text data preparation, cleaning, and selecting features which, alongside the data obtained via morphological, syntactic, and semantic analysis, constitute the input for the TM process. This process can be represented as mapping a set of text documents to «knowledge». Using the case of stock trading, we demonstrate the formalization of the problem of making a trade decision based on a set of analytical recommendations. Examples of such mappings are methods of Information Retrieval (IR), text summarization, sentiment analysis, document classification and clustering, etc. The common point of all tasks and techniques of TM is the selection of word forms and their derivatives used to recognize content in NL symbol sequences. Considering IR as an example, we examine classic types of search, such as searching for word forms, phrases, patterns and concepts. Additionally, we consider the augmentation of patterns with syntactic and semantic information. Next, we provide a general description of all NLP instruments: morphological, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic analysis. Finally, we end the paper with a comparative analysis of modern TM tools which can be helpful for selecting a suitable TM platform based on the user’s needs and skills.

Stochastic optimization in digital pre-distortion of the signal
Computer Research and Modeling, 2022, v. 14, no. 2, pp. 399-416In this paper, we test the performance of some modern stochastic optimization methods and practices with respect to the digital pre-distortion problem, which is a valuable part of processing signal on base stations providing wireless communication. In the first part of our study, we focus on the search for the best performing method and its proper modifications. In the second part, we propose the new, quasi-online, testing framework that allows us to fit our modeling results with the behavior of real-life DPD prototype, retest some selected of practices considered in the previous section and approve the advantages of the method appearing to be the best under real-life conditions. For the used model, the maximum achieved improvement in depth is 7% in the standard regime and 5% in the online regime (metric itself is of logarithmic scale). We also achieve a halving of the working time preserving 3% and 6% improvement in depth for the standard and online regime, respectively. All comparisons are made to the Adam method, which was highlighted as the best stochastic method for DPD problem in [Pasechnyuk et al., 2021], and to the Adamax method, which is the best in the proposed online regime.
