Nonlinear modeling of oscillatory viscoelastic fluid with variable viscosity: a comparative analysis of dual solutions
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 2, pp. 409-431

The viscoelastic fluid flow model across a porous medium has captivated the interest of many contemporary researchers due to its industrial and technical uses, such as food processing, paper and textile coating, packed bed reactors, the cooling effect of transpiration and the dispersion of pollutants through aquifers. This article focuses on the influence of variable viscosity and viscoelasticity on the magnetohydrodynamic oscillatory flow of second-order fluid through thermally radiating wavy walls. A mathematical model for this fluid flow, including governing equations and boundary conditions, is developed using the usual Boussinesq approximation. The governing equations are transformed into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations using non-similarity transformations. The numerical results obtained by applying finite-difference code based on the Lobatto IIIa formula generated by bvp4c solver are compared to the semi-analytical solutions for the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles obtained using the homotopy perturbation method (HPM). The effect of flow parameters on velocity, temperature, concentration profiles, skin friction coefficient, heat and mass transfer rate, and skin friction coefficient is examined and illustrated graphically. The physical parameters governing the fluid flow profoundly affected the resultant flow profiles except in a few cases. By using the slope linear regression method, the importance of considering the viscosity variation parameter and its interaction with the Lorentz force in determining the velocity behavior of the viscoelastic fluid model is highlighted. The percentage increase in the velocity profile of the viscoelastic model has been calculated for different ranges of viscosity variation parameters. Finally, the results are validated numerically for the skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number profiles.

Modeling some scenarios in the “power – society” system concerning migration and changing the number of regions
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2024, v. 16, no. 6, pp. 1499-1512

The paper considers an earlier proposed by the author discrete modification of the A. P. Mikhailov “power – society” model. The modification is based on a stochastic cellular automaton, it’s microdynamics being completely different from the c continuous model based on differential equations. However, the macrodynamics of the discrete modification is shown in previous works to be equivalent to one of the continuous model. This is important, but at the same time raises the question why use the discrete model. The answer lies in its flexibility, which allows adding a variety of factors, the consideration of which in a continuous model either leads to a significant increase in computational complexity or is simply impossible.

This paper considers several examples of such applicability expansion of the model, with the help of which a number of applied problems are solved.

One of the modifications of the model takes into account economic ties between regions and municipalities, which could not be studied in the basic model. Computational experiments confirmed the improvement of the socio-economic indicators of the system under the influence of the ties.

The second modification allows internal migration in the system. Using it we studied the socio-economic development of a more prosperous region that attracts migrants.

Next we studied the dynamics of the system while the number of regions and municipalities changes. The negative impact of this process on the socio-economic indicators of the system was shown and possible control was found to overcome this negative impact.

The results of this study, therefore, include both the solution of some applied problems and the demonstration of the broader applicability of the discrete model compared with the continuous one.

Formalized decision-making model: taking into account value motivation
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 2, pp. 323-338

The paper considers the problems of mathematical description of deontological aspects influencing the behavior of decision makers. A methodology is proposed for correlating utilitarian (material) and deontological (value) aspects in their decision-making, taking into account their psychological characteristics. A mathematical model is proposed for the joint consideration of utilitarian and deontological factors in decision-making in various situations. Some patterns related to this consideration are identified, and their formal description is given. The model shows that there is a tendency for a gradual decrease in the level of deontology in evaluating alternatives when making decisions (compared to what the outside world inclines to) towards greater utilitarianism. Over time, this trend begins to influence public opinion and society’s attitude to moral norms, gradually reducing the overall level of morality in society. This process can be stopped only by constantly and purposefully maintaining a high level of deontology by society and the state (ideological work, promotion of traditional values, educational work at school, etc.), otherwise society will inevitably become utilitarian over time, focusing exclusively on material factors when making decisions.

In the future, it is planned to use the developed tools for analyzing specific situations, including for analyzing the patterns of civilizational cycles: the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, the USSR, and modern Western civilization).

Determination of post-reconstruction correction factors for quantitative assessment of pathological bone lesions using gamma emission tomography
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2025, v. 17, no. 4, pp. 677-696

In single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), patients with bone disorders receive a radiopharmaceutical (RP) that accumulates selectively in pathological lesions. Accurate quantification of RP uptake plays a critical role in disease staging, prognosis, and the development of personalized treatment strategies. Traditionally, the accuracy of quantitative assessment is evaluated through in vitro clinical trials using the standardized physical NEMA IEC phantom, which contains six spheres simulating lesions of various sizes. However, such experiments are limited by high costs and radiation exposure to researchers. This study proposes an alternative in silico approach based on numerical simulation using a digital twin of the NEMA IEC phantom. The computational framework allows for extensive testing under varying conditions without physical constraints. Analogous to clinical protocols, we calculated the recovery coefficient (RCmax), defined as the ratio of the maximum activity in a lesion to its known true value. The simulation settings were tailored to clinical SPECT/CT protocols involving 99mTc for patients with bone-related diseases. For the first time, we systematically analyzed the impact of lesion-to-background ratios and post-reconstruction filtering on RCmax values. Numerical experiments revealed the presence of edge artifacts in reconstructed lesion images, consistent with those observed in both real NEMA IEC phantom studies and patient scans. These artifacts introduce instability into the iterative reconstruction process and lead to errors in activity quantification. Our results demonstrate that post-filtering helps suppress edge artifacts and stabilizes the solution. However, it also significantly underestimates activity in small lesions. To address this issue, we introduce post-reconstruction correction factors derived from our simulations to improve the accuracy of quantification in lesions smaller than 20 mm in diameter.

Method for coronary blood flow velocity estimation based on angiographic images
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2026, v. 18, no. 3, pp. 715-735

In modern cardiology, accurate assessment of the functional significance of coronary artery stenoses is a critical factor for selecting treatment strategies and making informed clinical decisions. This paper presents an automated algorithm for processing dynamic X-ray angiographic image sequences aimed at estimating blood flow velocity. This parameter serves as the basis for determining the Quantitative Flow Ratio (QFR), which acts as an effective noninvasive alternative to traditional invasive fractional flow reserve (FFR) measurements. The proposed methodology successfully overcomes classic challenges of angiographic analysis, such as vessel motion artifacts during the cardio-respiratory cycle, variable contrast opacification, and the geometric complexity of the vascular tree in two-dimensional projections.

The presented processing workflow includes several key stages. Initially, frame preprocessing is performed to suppress noise and filter out the anatomical background. Subsequently, segmentation is implemented using a Sato filter and Otsu thresholding, followed by skeletonization to extract vessel centerlines. Particular attention is paid to the algorithm for automated identification of bifurcation points and the filtration of artifactual intersections caused by vessel overlapping. To ensure data continuity, a temporal tracking method for the target segment based on template correlation is applied, which is especially important during phases with low contrast agent concentration. The mathematical core of the algorithm is based on solving a 1D inverse problem for the advection-diffusion equation, allowing for the recovery of blood flow velocity from temporal intensity curves.

As part of the study, a detailed validation of the method was conducted by comparing automated calculation results with manual expert measurements across ten clinical datasets. The results confirm the robustness of the computational scheme within physiologically relevant ranges and its ability to significantly reduce inter-observer variability. The developed approach minimizes the need for physician intervention in the data processing stage, opening up prospects for creating real-time clinical decision support systems in the catheterization laboratory setting.

Optimal control of the commercial bank investment including the reinvestment processes
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2014, v. 6, no. 2, pp. 309-319

Article is devoted to the creation of a mathematical control of the bank investment process. The whole process of building optimal control may be divided into two components: in the first place, there is the identification of the functions describing the liquid capital movement in the bank and, in the second place, the use of these functions in the scheme of dynamic programming. Before this problem was discussed in the article "Optimal control of the bank investment as a factor of economic stability" in the 4th issue for 2012. In the present article considers this modification of the solution, in particular, we use ℜ(φ) as a function of reinvestment, where φ is inflow of liquid capital realized at the previous step of control.

    Computer Research and Modeling, 2014, v. 6, no. 6, pp. 975-982

The article contains results of modeling of bi-modal microstructure evolution of VT6 alloy during isothermal forging. The model of recrystallization based on dislocation approach to nucleation and growth of nuclear was made to calculate recrystallization processes of the secondary alpha phase. The globularization process of lamellar alpha phase was calculated with assumption of diffusion-control migration of beta-phase boundary due to grain boundary diffusion of vanadium atom. The theoretical results were compared with experimental one.

Modeling of sand-gravel bed evolution in one-dimension
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 2, pp. 315-328

In the paper the model for a one-dimensional non-equilibrium riverbed process is proposed. The model takes into account the suspended and bed-load sediment transport. The bed-load transport is determined by using the original formula. This formula was derived from the thin bottom layer motion equation. The formula doesn’t contain new phenomenological parameters and takes into account the influence of bed slope, granulometric and physical mechanical parameters on the bed-load transport. A number of the model test problems are solved for the verification of the proposed mathematical model. The comparison of the calculation results with the established experimental data and the results of other authors is made. It was shown, that the obtained results have a good agreement with the experimental data in spite of the relative simplicity of the proposed mathematical model.

    BES-III distributed computing status
    Computer Research and Modeling, 2015, v. 7, no. 3, pp. 469-473

The BES-III experiment at the IHEP CAS, Beijing, is running at the high-luminosity e+e- collider BEPC-II to study physics of charm quarks and tau leptons. The world largest samples of J/psi and psi' events are already collected, a number of unique data samples in the energy range 2.5–4.6 GeV have been taken. The data volume is expected to increase by an order of magnitude in the coming years. This requires to move from a centralized computing system to a distributed computing environment, thus allowing the use of computing resources from remote sites — members of the BES-III Collaboration. In this report the general information, latest results and development plans of the BES-III distributed computing system are presented.
